    This is a perennial favorite when dining out in Gold Coast. I used to live in Chicago and frequented this restaurant when it was located on Rush street and it's just as delicious in current location, with a more posh vibe vs the intimate ambiance of prior location. Great place to have a lovely meal with a group of girlfriends gabbing the night away.

    If Le Colonial is on your "places to go" list, let this be the sign to not walk but run to this place... and in decent heels. From the service to the ambiance, Le Colonial is a delight. There is not a single item on their menu that was disappointing. From the garlic noodles, to the monkfish, the savoury items leave you wanting for more! Try as much as you can.

    This is such a bougie and classy place. They do have a slightly formal dress code policy, no caps allowed, which adds to the upscale vibe.My friends and I came here for brunch and were lucky to get a table for seven. The space was bright, airy, and beautifully designed. We ordered the chicken stir-fry, veggie rolls, spicy beef salad, veg fried rice and noodle stir-fry. The veggie rolls were so good that we ended up ordering them more than once! There weren't many vegetarian options on the menu. The drinks were great too, and we ended up ordering two rounds. Overall, it's a wonderful spot for a more formal brunch or dinner. It's definitely on the pricier side, but the food, drinks, ambiance, and overall experience made it worth it.

    Fancy Vietnamese food spot. Heads up- they have a dress code. As someone who grew up eating Vietnamese food, I'd say the flavors were actually pretty decent and spot on for a place that doesn't seem "authentic". We ordered pho, mushroom sticky rice, egg rolls, and vermicelli pork. The broth in the pho was pretty good, they only gave me like 3 pieces of beef though. The egg rolls were crunchy and the stuffing was tasty! The vermicelli in this bowl was overcooked and mushy. Not bouncy like it should be.

    A lovely Vietnamese restaurant in the golf coast, Le Colonial offers a lovely indoor outdoor seating venue, with absolutely stunning decor. I stopped by here for lunch during the weekday and was seated promptly in a very bustling atmosphere. I ordered the crispy shrimp rolls and the chicken salad which were both divine! I was too full for dessert so opted for a Vietnamese, coffee, and boy didn't wake me up! I can imagine this being a really lovely spot when the warmer weather hits, and can't wait to visit again!

    It's been awhile since I came here and it did not disappoint. Food was excellent overall. It was a perfect place to celebrate a special day. Service was great too. Enjoyed our seats looking over the street. Valley parking is available but we were able to find a street parking for ourselves.

    This place is no joke. I'm OBSESSED already. Service - 10/10. Food - 10/10. Ambiance 10/10. 5 stars all around (or 10). I've heard of Le Colonial so many times but never got to try it until recently. Yes it's pricey and fancy but you get what you pay for. The dishes are on the smaller side, but for a group of 6 we got over 10 plates and were all nicely full. I would come to this place alone for the vibes and decor, I adore how it looks like inside. There's a sun room in the front with lots of natural lighting come in and a bar/dining room more indoor that's dim lit. You got best of both worlds. The food was just spectacular, I don't even know what to say. Just go here!!!

    This ended up being one of my favorite spots while visiting Chicago. The ambience is honestly stunning. It feels very French, like you're sitting outside on those beautiful Parisian café chairs. The view overlooking the shopping area just adds to it. Every part of the restaurant is so picturesque, you can tell a lot of intention went into the design. I really appreciated the atmosphere they created. I've rarely seen a high-end Vietnamese restaurant executed this well, so I was pleasantly surprised. The service was also lovely and attentive without being overbearing. For food, the shrimp on sugarcane and the monkfish small plates were my absolute favorites, do not skip those. So flavorful and memorable. The beef noodle soup had an amazing broth, super rich and tasty, but nothing wildly unique beyond that. Still solid. The chicken curry was sooo good. I loved the mango and cashews! such a unique combination and really delicious. Overall, I'd absolutely come back. Even just for the ambience alone, it's worth it. Perfect for a special dinner or when you want something that feels a little elevated but still warm and inviting.

    I had a wonderful dining experience here for brunch! The restaurant is beautiful and the service was top tier. I had the signature fried rice and the chicken dumplings. Very tasty! Also, the lemon drop martini I had was fantastic! I am looking forward to my next visit there.

    Blow away by the service , food and ambience. It's been a while since I have been back.... Easy parking and walked in to be courteously escorted to our table. I got lychee Paloma, hubby got a beer and the kid got iced tea . We ordered the shrimp pork roll, chicken ravioli ( amazing flavors) Shrimp green curry, salmon , chicken stir fry and chicken fried rice . The food was tasty but my least favorite was the salmon in a not so great sauce . Dessert was pineapple upside down cake . The hostess bought out a candle to celebrate our anniversary which was very sweet. It's expensive but worth the price. Also, all the leftovers We're packed in eco friendly boxes which is a great touch.

    Wonderful atmosphere and service, food was good- Tuna Tartar, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Monkfish appetizers, Curry Shrimp, Half Duck, Sea Bass as mains. All quality dishes, but seemed to be more neutral on flavors, nothing really stood out as a "wow", which we would expect from a restaurant of this price range ($500 for 3 people with drinks and tip)

    This place was fantastic!! I ordered the lychee martini and it was perfect! Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Started out with the crispy pork & shrimp rolls and it was definitely one of my fav bites of the night. The vibe is so cute and romantic! I ordered the sea bass for my entree and it was divine!! It was served with dill, mustard seeds, and a buttery lime aju underneath-- 10/10 no notes. The garlic green beans were another fav bite-- so crunchy and delish! After we finished our meal, we moved to the bar lounge area to enjoy another cocktail. Great experience and will be back!

    This place is such a modern twist to Vietnamese food but it's really good. The ambiance inside is so nice and cute and absolutely loved our waiter and he was so nice. The food is good and very fresh and it was my first time having a spring roll cut in half but it was really shareable. This is such a great place for a date night or hanging out with friends. It's more of a formal vibe as well.

    No, it's not but you may stand out because it is a bit dressy. I went in jeans and a knit sweater last time.

    If I am allergic to fish and shellfish, will I have trouble ordering?

    No, i have a shellfish allergy, and they have several choices. There is fish sauce on some items. But talk to your wait staff when you come in.

    Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible? Upstairs?

    Hi! They have an elevator on the first floor to upstairs and the aisles are pretty spacious to get around the tables. Hope this helps!

    Do they offer first come first serve seating?

    I would recommend making a reservation for the dining rooms as it gets quite busy, especially during the evening rush. However, the bar area does not take reservations, walk-ins welcome, and also serves the full menu.

At a high level heres what made it stand out to me from other often mentioned places in chicago: the portions felt decent for the prices, the food was actually good, and the vibe truly did feel like a busy French bistro vs the well spaced large rooms of most other restaurants. It's not great if youre someone overstimulated easily, hard of hearing, or need elbow room. Or if youre looking for this uber luxe quiet formal vibe. But if you want to go somewhere where you feel like youre in a (extremely well known) hole in the wall this is it. Even though it was crowded one of my favorite parts was that the chefs or at least culinary dressed not front of house vibe dressed staff- were walking around as well so it was like you were really in the back of the kitchen secret table vibes. I also appreciated that a couple got engaged and they called attention to it without making us all cheer incredibly loudly. Me and the table next to me were like- who? what? They have good N/A champagne which I appreciated. And the bay leaf ice cream tasted like some legit herbs - which as someone whose goal is to really taste plants and the flavors of the earth - I appreciated.

I ordered the Escargot and the French Onion Soup. There was also free baguette included at the start of the meal. I loved that the baguette had a substantial crust, for it was an absolute delight to butter it up (though not the best butter in the world), and dip it into the herbaceous escargot butter. However, the inside, despite its temperature, was still gooey/doughy. Too much crust or some other technical issue? I'll let those with baking experience sound off. Whatever the case, the last thing I want to do with fresh baguette is ripping out the innards and rolling it into a ball of silly putty. Now, for the escargot... ah snails, an old favorite, for I don't really love fast food (ha!) These were mostly good, save for two things: First, the texture was still just a little slimy, reminiscent of an oyster. 30 seconds more cook time is all they needed, a minute would be too much! Second, the sauce didn't do them any favors. I've had escargot in a rich, buttery, garlicky, slightly herbed sauce that was beyond divine. This dish went triple-overboard, if not more, on the greens - making it resemble a chimichurri rather than something turning snails into decadence. Now, we arrive at the French Onion Soup. The sheer amount of cheese was so excessive that I recoiled even though I have a line item in my budget for cheese. I fished what remained out, and consumed it only out of spite. Now, while I appreciate the use of crusty bread that didn't turn into soggy croutons, the size of the pieces was too large. I'm one who orders prepared food with the understanding that it is prepared and should require minimal additional work. Steaks that need slicing are exempt, soup is not. Unfortunately, there was one more undoing: while I can understand a less sweet soup may be normal variation in the recipe, one of the spoonfuls had something very sour, as if it was a large wad of sour cream (though none was present). This made were otherwise rich and flavorful broth less than enjoyable. When it comes to the service, this had some good and bad. It was friendly, attentive, and the food came out fast. However, an item of note is that finished plates were not cleared in due course. This applies not only to myself but also the stranger sitting next to me. Final verdict: I wanted to love Le Bouchon, really I did. I was even hoping, at first, to try more of the menu on a return visit. However, the poor execution across the board does not provide the confidence needed for a return visit.

Our first visit here was for Restaurant Week, but we have been back several times after that. The restaurant itself is absolutely adorable. Lots of two top tables as well as some four tops. The bar area is functional as it allows for seating to have drinks and to dine. Each time we have been there, the music has been off the charts. I was a little taken aback (in a good way though) when I heard Aretha Franklin. My mind was a little confused because I felt like I was in a small French restaurant in Paris and was expecting French Cafe Jazz/Chill music. But hearing the Queen of Soul changed the whole vibe for me. The menu is very eclectic and changes quite a bit. The one thing that has been consistently on the menu are the Pommes Dauphine (oyster mousse, pickled red onion, osetra caviar), which I adore. Another dish that was the Slagel Duck Breast à l'Orange (pistachio, baby carrots, marmalade demi-glace, wild herbs). This was also very good. The duck was prepared just right, with the meat tender and juicy, but the skin nice and crispy. The Duck Liver Mousse (beer jam, honey-roasted peanuts, mint) is also a favorite of mine. Every time we have dined here, the Wine Director, Terry McNeese, has taken care of us for wine and beverages as well as sometime speaking to us about the food specials. He was gracious and informative, and easy to talk to. It was not until our second visit that we discovered who he was after he gave us his card. I was inquiring about some of the music on that night and he mentioned that it was a Spotify playlist. He has created several playlist under "DM" specifically for the restaurant. He told us he was on Spotify and that we could find the music there. In addition to the music, he has a very nice curated wine list, by the glass and bottle. My favorite is Camille Braun Cremant d'Alsace Brut Rosé Alsace, France N.V. (Pinot Noir). What they do not have is cocktails, so come prepared to drink wine, beer/cider or non-alcoholic beverages. Terry made some recommendations for The Queen, who is a cider lover. She was very happy with the selections and he actually made a recommendation of one for her to try (on the house). If I had to say I had a complaint, it would be that Dear Margaret turns out some great dishes, but because they change the menu often, don't get attached like I do because your feelings will be hurt when it is no longer available. But on the plus side I would say you get to experience something new and exciting on your next visit. There is plenty of street parking as they are located on Lincoln Ave, so it is easy to go there and not fight for a spot or use Spot Hero. The meat was tender, the gelatin added some creaminess and richness to it. The dish was served with lentils and horseradish cream. Not sure why they used lentil as side. Perhaps the sprouted lentil and beets used by Cira would be better. Still, it was a good dish. For the bread, I originally wanted to try their baguette, but they only serve baguette from Thursday to Sunday, so I tried the 9-grain toast instead. It was dense, moist and earthy. Each small slice was about 22.5g! I hope I can try their baguette next time I visit Chicago!

The restaurant was bustling on a Monday evening, and it took a while (~20 minutes) for our server to finally take our drink orders. This gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and decide our food orders at least. For our party of three, we ordered the beef tartare and escargot to share and three individual entrees. Despite the long time it took to place our orders, our food was brought out quickly. This was my first time seeing escargot served without the shells; while this may have been easier to manage without the special escargot tongs and fork, it was difficult to capture the buttery garlic sauce that was trapped in the serving dish. Additionally, the escargot was served with only two small pieces of bread, which was not enough for the three of us to share. I ordered the scallops for my entree, and these were served over a creamy bed of artichoke puree with sweet roasted cherry tomatoes. The scallops were cooked perfectly, and the artichoke puree was a creative (and delicious) twist to one of my favorite types of seafood. I ordered a glass of sauvignon blanc to enjoy with my scallops, but the wine was so overwhelmingly sweet that I couldn't finish the glass. I hadn't been back to check out the other restaurants in this space since Dos closed a few years ago, so I don't have the history on how this space has turned over a bit in the time since. I DO know this much: Bar Parisette is a strange ride. That's because I'm not really sure what it is going for, based on a dinner I had at the space last weekend. Bar Parisette, for a lot of reasons, gave me the sense it was going for French bistropub. The steak frites, the burger, the snacks, the drinks...all of that felt like it was right at home, but none of it was as strong as the food I've had at TDS. I went with the burger specifically because the burger at TDS is so good, but it just...wasn't, here. The meat was a little plain, the fries were fine, the bun was solid; the pieces were there, but as a package, it wasn't humming. The almonds were an interesting choice, but not one I would run out to make again; the trout dip was a winner with a couple of the folks in our party, but I skipped it since trout dip is not really my thing. I think the vibe was more a turnoff than the food and drink, though. Pardon my French, but it just wasn't sexy in here, and even though it was a Saturday night, it wasn't really hopping inside the space. If there was music playing, I didn't hear it or don't remember it, and the layout at Bar Parisette is functional but doesn't allow for the sorts of people-watching I like at other places in Chicago. (This became especially pointed when we left and walked next door to Gretel, which was jam-packed.) Service wasn't pushy, but it was certainly aggressive; our server came over three times in the first 10 minutes to check on our need to order, despite the fact that we were clearly a group that had not caught up in a while and had not spent much time with the menus. (European, this was not, at least in terms of speed.) But then we DID order, and it took 20 minutes to get our drinks and 30 minutes to get appetizers...then another 30 to get dinner. I didn't notice this as much because I had a late lunch, but my wife was showing signs of "hanger" that got more belligerent as the night went along. "Hurry up and wait" was never more apparent than this, and the staff acknowledged that it took too long for our food to come out, especially in a space that was almost completely empty by the time our mains came out. For $300 (this did include an $80 bottle of wine, note), my expectations are a little higher. Dos, this is not, and it's hard to imagine a scenario where I would come back to experience Bar Parisette a second time.

If you're in the area, especially during happy hour (extended to all day on Mondays, closed Tuesdays), stop in. All the areas are lovely and comfortable (bistro, dining room, bar, kitchen counter) and service is friendly and knowledgeable. Absolutely great wine list (and keep an eye out for special event Wine Dinners), including value priced House Wines during HH. Very decent burger and fries, small snacks and full sized plates abound at very good prices. Like its relative restaurant Table, Donkey & Stick, good food, good drinks and good times are sure to be had.
