Free fried banana dessert
Erik B.

After being denied due to a crazy long line for Paper Machete my friends and I decided to warm away our blues with some pho. We knew we could just go up the block to Argyle Ave but that also seemed to be pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon so we did a quick search and came across Little Vietnam just a little further north and drove that way. It's a great spot with a wide variety of Vietnamese dishes at reasonable prices. The combination pho I ordered had a nice broth with a decent amount of sliced meat and noodles. The shrimp spring rolls I ordered as an appetizer were also really good and I liked that all of the vegetables in the rolls and as toppings for the pho tasted crispy and fresh. My friend ordered a pork banh mi along with his soup that looked really good and it was big enough that he was able to take half of it home for later. The staff were very friendly. They did say that they could only take cash or Zelle payments at the time due to their card reader not working but that was not a problem for us. The inside has a very relaxed feel. Our waiter offered us a free fried banana dessert which was very appreciated. Next time I'd probably order some coffee to go with it.

Was in the Edgewater neighborhood and looked for highly rated cheap eats. Tried Little Vietnam and they are amazing! Ordered the Beef Brisket Pho and Lemongrass Chicken. Great service and value.

Came by here for dinner on a Saturday night in October and to our surprise it was pretty empty. Been wanting to try this place for a while as it's across the street from my barber and I always noticed it. The lady who served us was suuuuper friendly! So nice the entire time. We ordered eggs rolls to start and then combo pho orders each as our entrees. The egg rolls were small to be honest. There were three of them, but for the price-point, I feel like they skimped out on size or at least the inside contents of an egg roll. They tasted good though, however. The pho on the other hand we both really liked. The broth was excellent. The noodles were cooked perfectly as well. Our server kept making sure to refill our waters and also brought us chili oil and sauce containers per our request with no hesitation. And the end of our meal, she said she'd give us a friend banana dessert to-go for free just because! What a nice surprise. Will absolutely come back to support and get more pho!

So good! Such good service by the old lady who runs this place. Pho was the best I've had in Chicago so far and ambiance is great! This place only takes cash or zelle so note that, but the lady was so sweet she gave me and my friends dessert on the house

Pro's - Fast Service - Waitress was nice Con's - Wontons were empty and alot of wrap but not crab cheese (photo included) - Combo Fried Rice only had 3 shrimp and not to flavorful - Menu was a complete mess. There were so many pen marks and changed prices. It was so hard to sypher what was what. - For what I had. I felt it was pricey for the quality of food I received. I really wanted to like this place but unfortunately, it just didn't happen.

It's my first time to order Pho here, usually I would go to Argyle but let me tell you about Little Vietnam. Food : Pho is really good. I think any Vietnamese restaurant who can't cook Pho right shouldn't be open at all. Service : very good. Although my food was to go, the lady that assisted me was very courteous and friendly. She even instructed me on heating procedure on Pho. Price : Fairly decent. Not too pricey.

Cash only ! But will take cards lol This place is legit and the food is delicious and reasonably price. Great spot to get your pho or Vietnamese craving fix. I will return for sure, way closer than going to argyle if your coming from Rogers park. I love their take on the caramelized clay pot dishes , I got the cat fish and it was delicious.

After searching google for good restaurants on Argyle, we decided to eat here. I had rice with grilled pork chop and sunshine egg, and my partner had steamed rice noodles with grilled beef and shrimp. We split the spring rolls. First, the portion sizes were on the larger side, which pleasantly surprised us. Second, the spring rolls came out almost immediately, and the rest of the food came out within 10 minutes of ordering! The grilled pork chop was divine - perfectly seasoned and juicy. The freshness of the steamed rice noodles created a wonderful lightness to balance out the beef and shrimp, which were both cooked perfectly. There were so many dishes to choose from which originally seemed daunting, but now that we know you really can't go wrong here, it just means we have to come back again to try more! P.S. You have to order the coconut drink - you drink straight from the coconut and it's so refreshing.

The serving size was ample and there was a decent amount of beef. The summer roll was just okay. Honestly, if I hadn't seen the shrimp I wouldn't have known it was there. The shrimp itself was virtually flavorless. Service was good. My partner was initially brought the wrong dish and it took a few minutes but there was no hesitation in replacing it. My request for no cilantro was met with no difficulties. Ambiance is bare bones simple but this isn't a fine dining establishment. Points for proximity to the Red Line.

Creative Vietnamese Brunch with Standout Wings, Though the Egg Coffee Missed the Mark…read more HaiSous remains an enjoyable spot for a more modern take on Vietnamese cuisine, with quick, efficient, and friendly service in a polished setting. We came for brunch right when the restaurant opened, and it was only about 25% full, which made for an easy and relaxed meal. The crispy chicken wings were excellent -- fried well, nicely seasoned, and easily a go-to order. The bánh xèo was also very good, served hot and fresh with a crisp shell and plenty of filling, though I would have appreciated more leafy greens and herbs for wrapping. The bánh canh cua, or crab noodles, had genuine flavor, a nice spicy balance, and was served piping hot. The crab meat is broken up into the broth, so you do need to drink the spicy broth to get the full benefit of the dish. The beef papaya salad was just alright. Compared with other papaya salads I've had, I wanted more sourness and tartness to give it that sharper, more authentic flavor profile. The biggest disappointment was the cà phê trứng, or egg coffee. After having the real thing in Vietnam, I was excited to try HaiSous' version, but the coffee was not strong or bitter enough to create the right contrast, there was not much beaten egg, and the drink was overwhelmed by a large amount of whipped cream. It came across more like a very sweet dessert coffee than a faithful egg coffee. Overall, we enjoyed the meal and would come back. There are some misses, but the stronger dishes -- especially the wings, bánh xèo, and crab noodles -- make HaiSous worth trying for a creative Vietnamese brunch or dinner.

We ordered delivery from Sunset Pho and were very impressed…read more We ordered a chicken ginger cabbage salad and vegetarian spring rolls. Portions were pretty large, especially the salad. The spring rolls came as a pair, both long. Everything was packaged well. Both dishes were very fresh with great flavor. The chicken cabbage salad was amazingly good, with the cabbage still having some crisp to it despite being mixed with the chicken and dressing. The flavor was a great combination of citrus and a gingery kick, and some fresh herbs on top made it even better. This place is definitely in our short list for delivery, and we look forward to checking it out in person someday.

After smelling the chemical fumes that's always present at airports, I tend to always crave something soupy and comforting. Phodega was near where I was staying, and my friend and her roommate also heard positive reviews on the food here. We arrived closer to 8 PM last Monday and were seated immediately. Their menu is a hodge-podge of popular Asian street food and snacks. It was a bit random, but I guess that's why it's... Phodega. PHO BO (BEEF) - 16.95 +3 for extra ribeye The broth was really strong and flavorful, very meaty and beefy. However, the noodle to broth ratio was a bit too high for me. I really liked the broth too, and there wasn't much of it after the noodles sucked it all up. Adding the extra ribeye beef helped balance it out, which was a good call for me that night. My friend got the "Not BBH" and didn't really like it, and her roommate absolutely despised the Korean Style Dumplings. Definitely get the beef pho at Phodega because it did the job for me besides the overwhelming amount of noodles.

5 stars based on Bahn mi, cha gio and iced coffee I ordered today…read more I must have been part of an early crowd. When I arrived, there was only one other table dining, which made it GREAT for me. It's a decent size hall with 10+ table arrangements, making it pretty great for a group to enjoy their lunch. It also featured a couple of kiosks for ordering, which I thought was a bit easy to miss, since it was tucked away in the left corner when you walked in. It looked like there was also a cashier available to take orders, if you miss the kiosks. I've seen places where they simply do not have anyone at the register to take orders, but that wasn't the case for Lotus. Before deciding to visit them today, I had an impression that their menu choices were very limited compared to other Vietnamese restaurants I was used to. I'm certainly not complaining, since I'm usually a huge fan of select "specialty" approach in restaurants. That's why I decided to order one of their Bahn mi, where I normally would have chosen pho for my first visit. And it didn't disappoint. First off, the size of the sandwich was good. I've had it where they charged a buck or two less, but they weren't big enough to be a full "lunch" portion. Lotus' size, I thought was decent. I had ordered one of their cha gios just in case the sandwich failed to fill me, but I think I would have been okay without it. Cha gio was super good tho! Oh, and the iced V-coffee was good, too. Typically, they'll bring out the coffee before your meal is ready, probably because they're ready-made in the morning and all you'd need to do is pour them over ice. I of course, have known legitimate mom n' pop places, where they'll actually bring out coffee as it's brewing in Phin (stainless steel coffee filter) and a glass of ice with condensed milk, so you can wait for the coffee to finish brewing and pour yourself one, which is what I *always* prefer. Not here, but no big deal. You can usually tell how good the food is going to be by trying their iced coffee. Even though V-coffee isn't known for using "incredible" beans, the balance of the strength of coffee and condensed milk *does* make a big difference in your experience. I felt this place had it correct! I'll definitely come back myself and even bring coworkers or my family to have their Bahn mi again. What I'm not sure about is whether I want to try their pho or bun. First, they don't offer too many variations, so I'm stuck choosing from just a few. (For example, I usually go for "brisket-only" or a combo of brisket and rare steak, but they didn't seem to have those options. Granted, it's possible they'll make it happen if I asked) Secondly, I think they're a couple bucks more expensive than what I would like to pay for a bowl of pho. We'll see.
