This is possibly the worst hotel I've ever stayed at. The first night we stayed there was a party next door and it seemed like there were prostitutes in and out until about 2:30am. We brought it to the attention of the hotel desk staff the next day and she blamed us for not reporting it to her night before. We explained we didn't feel safe with the situation and she told us we were wrong. This place is in a nice location but I think people are housed here an it's really not suitable for families or people who want to sleep and not party. Having been in the area many times, I'm pretty sure this business started out with another life not as a hotel. Being driven to be the finest hotel in a town with only one, it's motto must be it's important to remember the little things and continue to move forward day-to-day. Upon entering, the front staff were quite helpful. You left the desk with all the information you'd to prepare you. The rooms are clean and up to date with TV set-ups, well tiled updated bathrooms and the like. Lacking a full amenity restaurant, it even has a breakfast bar set-up with particularly good breakfast items, including bagels and coffee. Walls and floors are paper thin. So far 3 of my 5 nights have been disturbed by children running back and forth in evening and early morning or people up late talking. I even used a white noise app and still heard them. You should not hear people talking through the floor that are at a typical conversation/laughing level. Front desk did not call the room to ask them to be more quiet and also would not consider not booking people above me if they were not sold out for that type of room. if I could leave less than one Star I would!! We have stayed here before and this experience is totally different. First of all it's 8 pm it's 8 degrees outside. We have NO heat in our room after calling the desk Sarah came up and her comment was oh yeah the wall unit doesn't really work it cuts off and was determined we need a battery for the remote for the electric fireplace that barely blows and that it is supposed to be our heat source ??!! After sitting in the room well over an hour ( mind you sitting there with our winter jackets on ) I proceeded to the desk where Sarah said " theres really nothing I can do " I can give you blankets and all the rooms are going to be like that ??!! so 20 minutes later she called to move us to another room which was equally as cold She is the nastiest person she was actually yelling at me while I was trying to talk to my husband on the phone ( he was in the room waiting for a solution) and tell him what she had said ... Great Hotel location and in a great price for Memorial Day weekend. We wanted to spend the day in Niagara Falls, but the hotels in the Falls were quite expensive. So we looked a little north right by the niagara river and it turned out to be a great choice. This place is quaint and on the older side but the rooms seemed to be updated. It was quite spacious and even though we didn't have sunset room, you could just walk out the hotel door and capture the mood. There was a breakfast from 7-10 each morning. Enough with great variety. There were 2 restaurants within the block both are very good. You can even have ice cream in the summer. Only 2 downfalls on this visit and why I gave it 4 stars. First it is an older hotel so the floor creaks. I am thinking we had a dog above us because there was a lot of walking going on, not a normal person would walk like that. Plus every so often a big thud - a dog toy. So I would suggest a higher Floor. Second thing, we had a room on the second floor and we had trouble finding the room. There was a banquet room but we would have never guessed that we need to go through the room and get to our room. And the front desk should have told us how to get to our room. Not sure how that works when they have a party going on. Otherwise, very nice hotel and great location. read more

I really wanted to like it here but it was a bit of let down. I will say the staff is AMAZING. Everyone was super professional and polite but the hotel itself was underwhelming. I will say that I won a night stay at wedding show and perhaps that played a role in the room that we got. Anyway, my fiance and I won a night's stay in a riverview king room. I made the reservation without any issue and all was well. On the day of check-in when we arrived, we were informed that the key card system was down and there was no way that we would be able to have a key to our room once we were checked-in and if were coming and going we would have to have a staff member let us in our room. (Deep sigh) Now I understand that things happen but it's a bit ridiculous that people could check into their room but their was no way to get back in without a staff member escorting us. If we left they could have gone into our room which of course they could have done even if we had keys but it was really just an annoyance and inconvenient. It seems as if the hotel outsources their key making from a separate company so it was an external issue that they were not responsible for. Once we were escorted to our room, it was a bit underwhelming to say the least. The view was beautiful. Even for a winter day, it was great to see the water and skyline. However the room itself was a bit drab. It looked like there was some water damage in one of the corners, there were marks on the ceiling that seemed to heighten my suspicions, there scuff marks on the wall and on the desk in the bedroom. When I sat down at the desk I saw a bright orange ear plug underneath the nightstand (yuck). Unfortunately, I understood the need for earplugs within minutes. The walls were paper thin and seemed as if the people above us were wearing cinder block bedroom slippers. The had the tv on miracle ear and they seemed to be hosting a party that didn't end until well after 4am. For a hotel that was remodeled approximately 5 years ago it didn't seem like it. I did peek at the reception rooms and they are gorgeous. So maybe those areas were in face remodeled but the room we stayed couldn't have been. It was a bit of let down overall but I still have hope. I'm thinking "you get what you pay for". Perhaps when we return in the summer for a wedding and we are paying customers we'll get the better room choices. Our first time here. Booked an apartment as that was all that was available. 3 night stay. Apt #4002. Good location. Clean. Full size refrigerator & stove. Dishes & utensils provided. No view as room was in back of hotel. Would have given it more stars, but we had some issues. Old style key (no card) to get into the room. Wouldn't work reliably. Had to fuss with it for a minute or two to get it to work. Went to the front desk & got another key. Same issue. Had to jerk around with it for a minute or so each time we wanted to lock/unlock the door from the outside. Got annoying real quick. Second issue was that the wifi was down constantly. They have two nice smart TV's in the unit, but we couldn't watch them without wifi. Didn't have great cell coverage (AT&T), so no wifi = no internet. Again, annoying. Pic of the TV showing no network attached. Lastly, the room always felt damp. They have heat pumps, not a/c units. Heat pumps cooled the room nicely, but apparently they don't dry out the air. Air in the room always felt damp, bed sheets felt damp and the bath towels never dried out. I sent the hotel an email a few days after we checked out notifying them of the above issues. No response. Wasn't looking for anything, but a 'sorry for your trouble' type of response would have been nice, and smart. We're in the Lewiston area once or twice a year. Not sure we'll stay here again. Interesting hotel - not happy... 1. I was told when I checked in there would not be a 'Destination Fee' of $10 per day added since I booked direct (not by Expedia, etc). But, I was charged anyway. When I got my bill, I asked about it - I was told that I was given wrong info by the front desk and would still be charged. 2. I was told by a local contractor that the hotel was 'quickly built' and not all building codes were followed - like a lot of potential violations - concerning 3. Noisy from the floor above, clearly this is a wood built hotel and not proper sound proofing materials. 4. I got a call from the front desk late one evening that I was playing my music too loud - a complaint from the person under me. I was sleeping when they called and there was no music - it must have been from another room apparently being heard through the thin walls. 5. On the good side, nice looking hotel. read more

My daughter had her wedding there and it was wonderful! The first wedding planner I dealt with was not great. Thankfully she was no longer there once it came time to finalize everything. Kristi is who we worked with and she was AMAZING! All of the staff were so nice. The food was delicious. The rooms were clean and unique. Our group had the entire second floor rooms right next to the ballroom. The rooms are not soundproof but i figured if they can deal with my crazy wedding reception then I can deal with a little creaking floor. Free breakfast in the mornings were a wonderful convenience and made it simple to see all of our guests off the next day. The views on the balcony were a stunning backdrop for the ceremony and made for an excellent change of scenery during the reception. I highly recommend this venue for your event! read more

There was a battle fought in the War of 1812 near Lewiston. This hotel looks like it must've been from that same era. But, in fact, it was not built around 1812. Or 1912. Actually, closer to 2012. It was actually built in 2003, but done in the style of the older architecture. It's incredibly charming. The people at the reception desk are also very friendly. And, it's an old style sit down at a desk check in, rather than the more modern check in counter where you have to stand the whole time. The rooms are spacious, and the bed is reasonably comfortable. And, it's located near some nice restaurants that aren't terribly expensive. The location not far from Niagara Falls is also ideal, without the expense of trappings of being closer to the Falls. Definitely worth a return trip next time I'm in the area. read more

The Good: The staff here are great. Friendly and accommodating. Clean rooms. Great housekeeping staff. Helpful and they do a great job. The Not So Good: Bring your own pillows. They are tiny. Just a weird size. We were there for Niagara University's Commencement. My parents at one end of the hall and we at the other did not have hot water for hours at a critical time when everyone is getting ready for our special day. The WiFi is completely inadequate. We are just across the river from Canada so cell service is significantly impacted which makes it all the more important for families to be able to communicate. We stayed here this past week because our National chow show was located here. It was a very pleasant surprise to show up at this hotel. Cute town with great restaurants and shops, beautiful view of the Niagara River, close to drive to Niagara Falls or take the shuttle. We spent most our time at the hotel because all of the dog show activities were there. The rooms were clean, the food at the banquets were all good too. My only complaint is the mattress was hard and no exhaust fan in the bathroom. But really not a deal breaker. The staff really went out of their way for our group to make sure we had a successful event. And everyone is now in love with that town too! read more

We visited here for a couple of days while visiting Niagara Falls. The parking is a bit difficult because there is not alot of space right out in front, but plenty of space in the lot down the hill. The staff was great with our Check-in, the lobby was very nice and big also. Our rooms were very clean with plenty of space. The bathroom was a good size also, but the shower was really tight and I'm not that big, and there isn't any counter space, they really need to put some type of small table in there to place ur things. I was expecting a nice place to take my wife for our wedding night/weekend. It looks like a beautiful place, in a beautiful town of Lewiston. What we got was a room with spiderwebs, plaster fixes on the wall without paint, poor Wi-Fi reception. We were expecting more than we got. If we stayed at a Motel 6, we'd say "you get what you pay for" but it was a bargain priced room. With that being said, when we got there after the wedding, I had put the room keys in my bag somewhere and the lady at the desk gave us new keys, and also helped with the air conditioner. My husband and I recently came here for 1 night as a mini-get away over a long weekend. We had a lovely experience here! The staff was extremely friendly and kind, and even let us check in 5 whole hours early! Not to mention the gorgeous views of the river and easy accessibility to the Main Street of the town! The hotel is beautiful - historic and old looking while also cleverly having some new updates and touches. The lobby and main rooms were beautiful. Our hotel room was probably the largest room I've ever stayed in, and had a wonderful old charm. The bathroom was large and clean and the fireplace is a super fun touch. This is an older hotel, so you can't expect all of the newest and high tech amenities. The carpet is older and had marks on it from where the bed previously stood, and had some screws on the floor since the bed frame was obviously new. There was some dust on random furniture, but this is a small, locally owned hotel! And dust isn't hurting anyone! I have noticed a lot of other reviews mentioning lack of parking, we never had an issue with this. While there isn't a dedicated parking lot, there are at least 5 spots directly next to the hotel and then about 10 more on the street. If you can't find parking there (we always did!), there is a huge parking lot literally directly next to the hotel, just down a staircase, which would not have bothered us at all. It's also important to note that we were here after reopening from COVID-19 closures, and we felt extremely safe here. I had reservations to Niagara Crossing & Spa. I booked this hotel only because the site said pet friendly!!!! We arrived and I let them know we had our pet with us. I let the desk lady know it was a cat and she went on to tell me that cats are not allowed, I commented that your site says pet friendly. She went on to tell me that cats are not pets in the eyes of NY state, they are not registered pets like dogs are! I told that they are pets and my pet cat is registered just like a dog is. She went on to tell us we cannot stay at Niagara Crossing & Spa. Needless to say she did not care that we had no place to stay and we all ready paid for our stay! In all my time of traveling with my cat, I have never come across such rude and nasty people that obviously do not like cats. I will never stay or book Niagara Crossing & Spa ever again! DO NOT BOOK A WEDDING, HOTEL OR ANYTHING AT THIS DISGUSTING PLACE. You want your wedding ruined ? This is the place for you. I was a bridesmaid in this wedding and full disclosure did not drink anything the entire night. Can we start with set up? The night before, it was not explained to the bride that people could freely roam in the room and very condescendingly we were told by staff that they aren't responsible for any damages that may occur overnight and our other option was to set up at 12:00... Day of the wedding. Sitting at the head table and trying to enjoy the disgusting chicken they served, I overheard the Crystal girl telling groom to stop talking, showing him a new invoice and telling him how he's responsible for something... in front of EVERYONE. Also she felt the need to tell him that he's "driving her staff crazy" The bride and groom were asking questions due to them being so unorganized. By the end of the night the staff decided to laugh in the brides face, the father of the brides face and the maid of honors face when asked serious questions about the leftover food due the venue threatening to charge more money because the videographer had a drink... mind you 5 people (unsure if that's the exact number) but people did not show up and the family requested those five dinners to be taken home... which means there were 5 spots open for the open bar along with countless of people like me did not drink. The Room: The sheets were filthy, it smelled like basement and was so damp in the room due to lack of ventilation. It was the cheapest, filthiest room flip I ever seen. You can sit and enjoy tea or coffee outside and you have the most spectacular view of the lake. We were not impressed with the room we had. We expressed when booking we were coming for our wedding nights (2 night stay) and the room was not worth the price we paid!! The dresser/refrigerator storage was clearly damaged from wear and tear and looked in need of replacement or repair. Several spots on the walls dinged up and had been patched up but not painted so there were multiple white spots on the tan walls. Big cob webs on the ceiling. Dripping faucets. Oh and let's not forget the mirror in the bathroom was tilted downward perfectly so you could watch yourself going to the bathroom. What?!! The tilt functionality of it didn't work to tilt it back up. I made due with placing a towel behind it to change the view. Room had spectacular view of muddy paths. (Sense the sarcasm). The air conditioner was clearly on its last legs and had an obnoxious constant ticking sound. I just think they're not taking care of the hotel properly. The girls at front desk were very nice and helpful...coming to room to help with the a/c controls. Breakfast was standard nothing to rave or complain about there. When we went to check out there wasn't a person at the desk just a basket that said leave room cards here. What?? This hotel has a prime beautiful location and has potential to be awesome. Niagara Crossing was...fine. For the price and location, I was honestly expecting a bit more. At first glance the hotel is beautiful, but upon closer inspection it is not well taken care of (broken and peeling floor, dirty walls, random boxes on countertops and floors). Our room was nice if you don't mind stains on the chairs. Oh, and wi-fi? Don't stay here if internet access is important to you. Our 50th Anniversary party was held here over the weekend. It was held in the banquet room on the 2nd floor. Kristi, the banquet manager, handled everything perfectly. I have waited a while since my wedding to write this review because I want it to be honest and fair. Let me start by saying that my wedding was incredible and the team at Niagara Crossing Hotel and Spa really came together to make that happen for us. Kendelle helped my crew get it together when we had to change ceremony locations at the last minute to rain and that part of the day went off with minimal mistakes. The location is gorgeous inside and out. The food was incredible and over all it was an incredible day. The hotel team's service at dinner and the bar was great, they saved our cake for us, and they even let us take home the extra plates the next day from people who didn't show. That being said, leading up to the wedding they were not always the easiest to work with. While very accommodating with the payment schedule and understanding of the mistakes I did make they definitely caused me a lot more stress during planning. Our first difficulty was actually before we even booked. Kendelle decided to cancel our tour to see the venue because I took more than 3 days to respond after confirming that we had a tour a week prior to the tour. We decided to book anyway and even booked the entire hotel so we could guarantee our large guest list places to stay and have the whole hotel as space for pictures and activities in case if rained. We booked for "Run of house" which means we control the entire hotel. However when we booked the hotel only had 69 rooms. The hotel failed to inform me that they had added 4 rooms as well as 8 apartments to the hotel and booked them to people who were not invited to my wedding before asking if I wanted to also include at least the extra rooms that are on the same floor as we would be staying the night of our wedding. I only found out when I was told that we couldn't use the lobby for our ceremony because of it. The reason I wanted to use the lobby is because they told me upon booking that their space could hold up to 250 but didn't mention that they only have space for 104 in the ceremony room and only 104 chairs if they do it on the balcony anyway. We ended up needing the ceremony room due to rain and managed to squeeze everyone in with many standing thankfully. The other guests were checking in during my ceremony though, and it was awkward to have strangers interrupting our processional right outside the ceremony room before we walked in. Hotel booking was probably one of our biggest issues with the venue. The room booking process was a nightmare for both us as a couple and the guests. Because we blocked out rooms everyone had to call to reserve rather than do it online for some reason. The people running the front desk seemed to have no clue what they were doing, threw each other under the bus, and never answered the phone. To book my own hotel room the night before as a bride I had to call 18 times to get through. Then I never received my confirmation email and had to ask for it repeatedly before I received one. They had my email wrong even though I had been emailing their coordinator for nearly two years before booking the room. Guests were unable to get through and also had to call repeatedly just to book their rooms. Once they did book, there were still more mistakes. They lied when I fixed the best man's booking, because he booked the wrong dates, and told me they would put him in the suite both the night before and the night of the wedding so all the groomsmen had a suite to get ready in the morning of, when in fact they put him in a different room the night before. They also charged him for two nights in the suite instead of one and were unable to rectify it because he never received his confirmation email with the date correction. We also had a request about trying to keep anyone booking who stated that they were with the wedding party on the top two floors and anyone who stated they are family on the lower floors. Our guests were instructed to identify their relation to the wedding by us when booking to help the hotel accommodate this request. My matron of honor ended up on the second floor and the mother of the bride had the room directly beside us the Bride and Groom. Due to the hotel being fully booked they could not fix these mistakes. I will be totally honest and admit this was what my one bridal melt down was about and I let all of the attitude I got from Kendelle get to me during set up for the reception the night before. I most definitely took it out on Kendelle and the front desk staff in an unkind way for which I did apologize later that night after the rehearsal. The entire complex is not kept up, cigarette butts and trash outside lobby, lobby floor ripped up, elevators and hallways dirty...as for the room, dirty floors, multitude of trash, etc. under the cushion of the chair, mold in the shower and surfaces either dirty or dusty. I will never return and recommend you make other arrangements. Obviously minimal housekeeping/maintenance. No housekeeping without 4 day stay, linen change requires a 7 day stay. If you understand that this is an old building, that is undergoing a rather large rehab, and go in with realistic expectations, you will have a wonderful time here. My wife and I spent her 40th birthday here and had a great time. I booked a river view room and weren't disappointed. The room was huge, and while it wasn't perfect, it had tons of charm and a million dollar view of the Niagara river from the huge balcony. If you go on a wedding night, be advised that it will be a bit noisy until about 10:30 or so. You should be out enjoy the Village of Lewiston until then anyway. There are some negative reviews of this place that almost swayed me not to book here, but I'm glad I didn't. read more

Barton Hill is grasping at being an excellent luxury hotel. It's not there yet, and there are noticeable details that show that they're still figuring out how to do things (they're under new management). Still, it's a pretty nice place. It's situated across a street and a parking lot from the river, and you can see the river out of the windows on the front side of the hotel and off of the building's large balcony. The interior of the building has some old-building charm, and they've decorated to emphasize that character. The decorating could still benefit from a bit of polish (some parts of the common areas seem too sparsely furnished, while others go a bit far the other direction), but it's pleasant nonetheless. The room that I stayed in was very nice. It was spacious and uniquely but tastefully decorated. The mattress was very comfortable. The room had a Keurig machine and a decent TV. If you're planning to use a roll-away cot, though, theirs was not among the more comfortable ones. The wifi could also use improvement. They have it and access is free, but it's a bit slow and it doesn't reach everywhere (I could get it in my room, but not in one quadrant of it, and my room wasn't the far corner room). The service was good. There were a few moments where it seemed like the employees might have been figuring things out as they went in situations where a "more established" hotel might have had preset procedures in place, but the friendliness and helpfulness of the staff prevented that from becoming problematic. The continental breakfast is a continental breakfast. It's nothing special, but you can get a bowl of cereal in the morning, and they have tables to sit and eat it. If you're looking to stay in a hotel in Lewiston, Barton Hill is, from what I could tell, basically the only game in town. There are a couple of small B&Bs, but to find another hotel it seemed that I would have had to have gone to Niagara, which isn't far but has the opposite of Lewiston's small-towny vibe. So, obviously the location is the best available for those who want to stay in the town. Luckily, it is a very good location. There's ample parking nearby. The river and its small handful of attractions (including the jet boats that go to the whirlpool) are, obviously, a very short walk straight out the front door. The main street of Lewiston runs along the side of the hotel... If you walk a few blocks away from the river, you're in the middle of a charming strip of shops and restaurants. Barton Hill has a pretty building with nice comfortable rooms and a helpful staff, and it's situated with views of the river in a cute town. It has small shortcomings, and there are little signs that they're still figuring out some things, but I had a pleasant stay and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again if I found myself visiting the area. read more

Do NOT host your event here! Kendelle Acker, the event coordinator is a total nightmare. You can't trust her to do anything she will say, she's unprofessional and shockingly rude. There's countless reviews about peoples weddings she has ruined I don't know why she still has a job there- she's a liability to the business. If you can get around dealing with Kendelle or if she no longer works there by the time you're seeing this it might be okay- but if she is the one coordinating your event, RUN! read more

Most unprofessional, unhelpful, disrespectful Front Desk Associate I've ever experienced, and I've traveled all over the world. I called on 6/29/22 to ask why they charged me an additional $255 after my Hotel.com booking of $850. She immediately said "sorry can't help honey you'll have to call back in 2 days and speak to my Manager." At first, the lady refused to give me her name, then stated her name was Karen. She began yelling and screaming on the phone and called me incompetent for asking her to help me and then hung up on me. I will be turning this over to the Better Business Bureau for review of this women's aggression, harassment, and need to be removed from customer service. Do not stay here! read more

For the price you pay for rooms, you have to request a fridge to rent. Unbelievable that is not standard fm at this location. Then my friend needed to store her breast milk and hotel refused to help her. Extremely unhappy with this hotel. read more

It's been bought by a investment group and it shows. The hotel back in the day was really nice and now it's become the cliche of buy cheap and keep it cheap. While I get that it's a tough time right now with COVID it wouldn't kill someone from the hotel to kick up around it. It looks, smells and feels like the cheap ass hotels on Niagara Boulevard, Niagara Falls, NY that have been bought up by an"investment" groups. It's hard not to stereotype but when they all display the same business model of not paying attention to detail, grounds not kept up and rude staff members it difficult not to. The only positive it is in Lewiston, NY and it's safe unlike downtown Niagara Falls that's crime ridden and absolutely unsafe to just walk around. I wish that I could have been more positive with the review but in general I would not stay here again. read more
