My husband questioned the receptionist who said they had some emergencies. Then said he was getting fluids. At 9:30 the put us in a room... still no communication. At 9:45 I said I wanted my dog I was leaving. Then I was told a critical case came in and she would see us soon. And came in at 10:10... very cocky and condescending. Asked what treatment I wanted or if I wanted to hospitalize him. Then asked what his meds were... I said the tech write them down 6 hours ago. Well... she hadn't talked to him and then asked if I wanted his eyes treated... he was there for pancreatitis. There was no way in hell I was leaving my dog there. I asked before they gave them to me if they could help me administer his meds that were supposed to be given at 8 (I was told at 8 by the receptionist I had to wait) and she said I could do it myself at home with a smirk on her face. This was Dr. Pan. I was refused medical help by a trained professional if that's what you want to call her. Then I was charged for an assessment that she gave my dog... she did nothing in my presence... how do I know she even looked at him! Never again will I go to that place and either will anyone else I know! I had to leave a 1 star rating ... it should be -10 !

I was referred by a local vet to Dr. Saundra Hewitt at the West Toronto Veterinary Surgery office. I found Dr. Hewitt to be extremely friendly and showed a very genuine care and concern for my dog. She examined him, asked me all kinds of questions related to his activity level, his eating habits, etc. and then took great care in explaining to me what he was experiencing with his knee. She said that although she could correct his knee with surgery, it wasn't really necessary at this stage, especially given the uncomfortable recovery. It's so refreshing to have a surgeon really consider the dog first, rather than just say, "He needs surgery" just because it CAN be an option. The cost of surgery is always a consideration, of course, and if you aren't prepared for it, can really be an issue for some. Nobody wants to fork over thousands of dollars for something that isn't absolutely necessary, so I was really relieved to hear that my dog would be fine without surgery. In the couple of weeks since my appointment with Dr. Hewitt, my dog has recovered very nicely, from which she suggested was more than likely just a bad sprain. The knee condition was more of an underlying issue that he can live with comfortably for many more years. My dog is now back to his normal self, walking and running around like he used to.

They took good care of my 1 year old ,feline ,fur baby, "Tiki". Tiki ended up with everyone rooting for him to get well. Surgery went well. My Tiki,unfortunately passed away while in their care. (Night shift) Approx 1am. I do not hold that against Doctor Biesinger or the daytime staff. Idk what quite happened that night, I was not there. I would still take another pet there, so, I actually do recommend this place, even with my severely broken heart. RIP Tiki =(

The staff is always super helpful and friendly to work with for admin purposes (scheduling, billing, etc.). If I ever have a question if I should bring my dogs in for something, the staff is very responsive to emails and phone calls. This came in handy the other day when my dog had a bump/bite on her belly. I emailed the office, unsure if it was something that needed immediate treatment, and got a quick response back letting us know it could be monitored from home. I appreciate that the standard response wasn't that we needed to come in. Some places make you come in no matter what, but it is helpful to have a vet that ease our concerns so we don't spend extra money for non-emergency appointments over small things. It really eases my anxiety as a dog mom knowing I have the Orchard Park Veterinary Medical Center nearby who will take care of my dogs in any situation.

I found out from two other Vets that was ridiculous and you just let the body thaw. I believe they didn't want us to find out that they were responsible for our dogs death. Above all else, when we had to make the decision to euthanize our beloved family member, they were extremely compassionate and assisted us in saying good-bye in a dignified way. Staff was amazing in their care for Kara even before the dr had a chance to see her. The examination plan flow chart detailing what steps should be taken and was laid out with absolute max efficiency and lowest possibly cost. (I work in health care) it took most of the night but Kara was finally treated and sent home with a comprehensive treatment plan. Not only that but the clinic proactively sent their character my family vet and they later cleaned and returned the blanket we'd brought Kara in on. The attention to and care show for even the minute non medical details related to our case was phenomenal And I have never seen such smooth and efficient follow up. Human healthcare wishes they were that good. Needless to say I was a little surpised by the range in reviews. And while I don't think the following explains all of them, I think it explains some. Based on the reactions from staff I got the impression that many of their clients do not understand a lot of the underlying realities and limitations of healthcare Never mind those involved in EMERGENCY healthcare. staff was visibly startled that we already understood the sheer amount of additional trauma and damage done to the body doing resuscitation. they were also visibly shocked and surprised that we understood the practicalities and risks associated with all forms of sedation, including twilight. So you end up with a lot of people commenting who don't Know or understand how emergency medicine works. yes, sometimes they can perform a miracle but more often than not miracles are in short supply but the team does their best to produce them anyway. Then there's the guy frantic beyond rationality. Been there. Done that. From previous experiences in another city with a different pet I can confirm that sitting with your pet, your dependent, while they scream in pain and confusion for hours while looking at you with desperate eyes makes people more than a little bit frantic and crazy. each cry and wimped are like a lash to your soul and it doesn't matter how much everyone is doing to move matters along, it is beyond devastating to have to wait toll a dr is available. I do not think clients in that state are particularly sane or rational. I certainly wasn't. I don't blame or criticism them for it in the least. But I do think their reviews aren't the most useful. of all the pet owners I spoke to, only one had a bad experience here and she admits it was a loooooong looooong time ago and the doctor in question no longer works there. I think if you review the reviewed with that in mind it might help get a more accurate read. On a personal note, thank you. The entire staff handled the entire process of decision with enormous empathy. While they offered choices to lengthen our dear cat's life, we assessed the odds and the advice and easily chose euthanasia as the odds for survival of our kitty were grim. I thank Liz and Linda at the front desk and Dr. Meredith Allum for her compassion and handling of our Sambo's peaceful end.

I took my dog in for emergency care as she had been vomitting for days and was not eating. The…read morewait time was reasonable and the initial care from the vet was good BUT it went downhill thereafter. I was called back to feed my dog since staff were afraid of her. Despite having an IV, they were unable to give her calming meds. While she was supposed to stay overnight, I ended up bringing her home as the vet-techs were too afraid to treat her, I had to disconnect the IV myself. The most worrisome is that although they took an x-ray, they missed colonic torsion. Had I not taken her to another ER, she'd be dead. The other ER had no issues treating my dog which required an emergency surgery to save her life. She remained in their care for 2.5 days without issue. BVE prolonged my dog's suffering. The drops they prescribed did not fight the infection & ended up damaging his ear behind the infection & created nerve damage in his eye. He is currently unable to see out of his one eye. The emergency vet that we took him to (because this vet told us they "can't see him until 1:45 pm" when we called at 7 am to report the issues post giving the drops they prescribed) told us this could progress into his brain. They offered no help, and no accountability. He is four years old & now may have long term damage to his eye and ear. They didn't even offer to refund the ear drops, which is the least of our worries, but would have gone a long way. We also had our dogs here for routine shots not that long ago & our other dog ended up having seizures post vaccines!! We have NEVER had issues before this vet with any problems like these. I don't know what they're doing with their medications or procedures but something's not right.

We frantically brought our very sick dog in to be seen, and they quickly diagnosed a bowel obstruction. They presented us with our options! Sable had successful surgery a few hours later! We are so grateful that they saved her life. They took amazing care of her. We were also very pleased with the way they interacted with us through the ordeal. We are very grateful!!! Thank you for your expertise Dr Bernat, as well as the wonderful vet techs and support staff. You are sooo appreciated! ....The Hosken Family (We did not know if Sable would get through this. I was Able to bring him home with no official diagnosis other than worms. They treated him for worms!!! That's what I paid $5000.00 for!! Wait it gets better. After I take him home they tell me he's eating again and sent home some of the food they were giving him and said if he's not eating to call them. Well he was not. I called the Vet asked for an appetite stimulant that I was suppose to get when he was discharged, but did not. I called in the morning they told me to bring him back in. I thought he was better, why is he still not eating like they said he was? I went home early to take my son to an appt. Checked on the puppy and noticed he was sleeping. I called him but no response. I shook him slightly and still noting. I picked him up and his eyes tolled in the back of his head. He was dying, unresponsive. I ran to my truck with him in my hand and drove so fast to the Vet only five minutes away. Screaming at them that he's dying. They took him started wking on him. Meanwhile I'm in disbelief. They come out telling me his blood sugar is 55 and body temp 84. He needs to go back to the hospital. I'm confused overwhelmed, vulnerable and very emotional. "Ok " I said. They stabilized him and I drove him back to Green acres. They tell me they have to put together a plan of care and they'll be right out. I'm waiting , scared, that he will die, I have a huge vet bill I don't even know how I'm paying back , and he's still not out of the woods! They come out and give me a paper with a plan of care , but also another enormous amount of money at the bottom .. $5700.00!! WTF I just paid $5000.and he's still sick ! I'm now at their mercy and they know it! They took complete advantage of me! Needless to say I signed the sheet and kissed him telling him I'd be back to get him soon. I really didn't know if that would happen. But I needed to be optimistic! I went home and waited. Anticipating the worst case Scenario. I prepared myself for his death and the bill I was facing instead of the happy joyful summer days I was suppose to have with a new puppy. Five hours later I get a call from the Dr. she told me she was a GI specialist that worked there and was assigned to my puppy. She said that my puppy had a TAPE WORM . That he must have had it when we got him from the farm and it was hatching and the larvae was eating all his nutrients and blocking his bowels from moving waste that's why he only had a small BM that was liquid stool in the week we had him. . I told her that the other GI Dr. couldn't identify what he had from the nasal gastric tube she pulled out of him and saw the parasites on it? That it took him nearly ding and a nearly $12 000.00 vet bill all for a tape worm???? She said she couldn't speak on behave of the other Dr. but my puppy should be better in two days as long as he starts eating. They were starting him on Drontal a broad spectrum dewormer that kills nearly every worm a dog can get. They took advantage of me and didn't care, or give a RATS ass about my ability to pay! NEVER go there! You will be broke! I'm still paying that bill Plus interest on my credit card.. My puppy is now a year old last month and he is great! But the expense was pure greed, and corporate GAIN!!

Wheb we gave the approval to proceed with the overpriced surgery they did more tests and came up with a new diagnosis. Then they went back to recommending tests and surgery. We took our dog to another vet and didn't tell them where we were going. everything resolved including surgery, 2 night stay and a month of food, for less than 4K. we spent 6k at AEC and all they did was tests. When I raised the issue of blocking the transfer the management refused to consider any wrong doing. this place is owned by Vet strategy who sets their pricing and is impossible to reach. I'm in the process of filing a formal complaint with the college of vets of Ontario

I took my cat to Animal Emergency Clinic of Durham last weekend after noticing he seemed unwell. We waited for 3-4 hours to be seen (even though the waiting area was empty), which was frustrating, but we understood that it was an emergency clinic. When we were finally seen, we were quoted $4900 for two nights of treatment (enemas, stomach pumping with laxatives, and IV fluids) or $3600 for one night with the same treatment. We were told that our cat had a condition called mega colon, and that this treatment would help get things moving. We opted for the one-night stay. The vet did call us during the stay and said that they had taken an xray and things looked like they were improving. When we picked him up, he was in significantly worse condition than when we dropped him off. His rear end was covered in feces and had mucous hanging from his mouth and all down his chest. I believe the clinic should have made some attempt to help clean him up as we had a scheduled pick up time. There was no vet available at pick-up to tell us how our cat was doing. Considering the amount of money we had paid, you would think the vet could take a moment to let us know how the cat was doing. To make matters worse, they sent us home with two medications but no pain medication, even though it was clear that our cat was in extreme pain. They told us to take him to our regular vet for further care the following day At our regular vet, we were given two options: surgery (which was not guaranteed to resolve the problem permanently and it would likely return quickly again) or to put him down. We were told the impacted feces were too large to pass through the pelvis. We had two xrays at the emergency clinic and were never told this. We decided to put him down, as it was clear he was suffering. Our cat was only 11 years old, and it was a heartbreaking decision to make. What really frustrates us about this experience is that the emergency vet did not clearly communicate how critical his condition was. We were made to believe that the one night treatment would help him and that we were giving him a chance. The lack of transparency and care is something we will never forget. I want others to be aware of our experience and consider the level of communication and care they expect when trusting their pets to an emergency clinic. I wish this situation had been handled differently, and I am devastated by the loss of our cat.
