This is the first time I have been to their store since they changed locations. This store is so much bigger and brighter than the other store. The other was much more compact. They still have a ton of spices, flours, grains, baking items etc. I was able to find everything I was looking except one item and the staff helped me find it. They have several cash registers which is an improvement from their last store. The cashier wasn't the friendliest but I will chalk it up to a bad day for her. The rest of the staff seems pretty welcoming. They do have online ordering for either shipping to you our curbside pick up. They do have designated spots for pick up which is nice. read more

Silly place to stop in when visiting from out of town but I'm not sorry. This place is amazing, with every kind of spice, spice blend and baking mix you can imagine. They also have shrub (the drink) concentrates, bean soup mixes, and also all the kinds of cardboard cakes boxes. I am not doing it Justice hear but you just have to see it for yourself. I walked out with some cocoa mix, maple cream, soup beans, steel oats and some spices that should be fun to use. I think they do mail order but then you lose the fun of browsing. Love this place! I have never ordered online, but visit as often as possible. (Every time I go to Henrietta, which is often.). Yes, their new space is wonderful, but it all about thief products! I've been trying some of their blends lately and love them- two current favorites: 12 Grain Cereal- basically Oatmeal and 11 other 'grains' that make a great start to the day. I also use this blend in breads and more Corn on the Cob Seasoning- Lime and Chipotle. So freakin' tasty. Not to hot, and full of flavor! Also great on any roasted vegetables. read more

I've been a customer of Niblack's at the Public Market for about three years now, and have always enjoyed the great variety and the expert knowledge they literally bring with them in their truck. But just today, I was able to go to their actual brick-and-mortar location out in the suburban nowhereland of Henrietta. Truly a wonderful place, even better than browsing their selection at the public market. Every grain and spice I could possibly want---fenugreek, couscous, zaatar, bread flour, bay leaves, etc---in all sizes, and plenty more I never knew I needed. I loveeeee this store. But the hours are basically a screw you to the working population. If you work a 8-5 like most of us do, you can only go on Saturdays before 4pm. Hope you didn't plan on doing anything with your weekend!! Or, like me, you have some freelance jobs on Saturdays during the summer so you can just sit at home on Sundays and think about how you'd really like to make a trip to Niblack and get some spice rubs for grilling, but then remember it's Sunday, and they're closed, and Niblack hates you. This is the only place in Rochester I know of to get the fancy candy coatings, Merckens and Vanleer, and 1lb candy boxes, so I usually take off a day to go to this store around thanksgiving and christmas. They have the widest battery of flavorings and extracts you can imagine. But should I have to take off a day from work just to go here?! Please, add one evening, or be open Sundays. This is a 5 star store with 1 star hours. read more

I have a love-hate relationship with Niblack. I love it because I can get any spice I want but I hate the amount of money that departs my wallet at the end of every visit. I have tried the most amazing balsamic vinegar here along with some epic hot sauces. I have walked out of here with 4 kinds of peppercorns (white, pink, green and szechuan) along with half a dozen other spices. ...okay, clearly I have a spice hoarding problem but really, Niblack is the spice lover's "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory" experience. It seriously smells like a fragrant spice market here. I am reluctantly taking off one star because you can get some of the spices cheaper at Indian or Asian stores (eg. cumin, coriander, fennel, etc). read more

Incredible selection of whole and ground spices, baking supplies, sauces, condiments and more. The spice selection is extensive and they have an assortment of custom spice blends and rubs. I saw at least 5 different kinds of ground chili powder (ancho, guajillo, habanero, pasilla, chipotle). There are many different kinds of flours and starches for breads and pastries. Niblack stocks a lot of whole grains as well. They carry a lot of hot sauces that you cannot find in the supermarket. The extract selection is unmatched. Powdered cheeses? I cannot imagine why you would need it but they have it. Oh, and lots of lots of sprinkles, lentils, dried fruit, and BBQ sauces including those from local favorites Uncle Ralph's and Dinosaur. Niblack is by far the most effective way to stock your pantry without going totally broke on exotic spices. This is another must visit for any home cook. read more

Wow, this place really amazing! We stopped in after going to Palmer's Market, not really knowing what Niblack Foods had exactly. Well , they have just about any spice you can imagine...some of which I have never heard of. Lots of really great cooking staples that you don't see everywhere, or are prohibitively expensive... my finds: real Madagascar Vanilla extract, high-gluten flour (for pizza dough), baking yeast. I bought a huge package of yeast for not much more than a couple of the 3-packets found at the grocery store (I bake a lot of bread and go through yeast quickly!). The prices are great. A very decent selection of hot sauces are on the back wall as well. I am so glad I read the positive review of Niblack Foods, otherwise I would probably not have thought to stop in here, because it is located in a rather nondescript warehouse type of building, so it's kind of easy to miss...but well worth seeking out. read more

I cooked wheat germ for Mr. Niblack way back in the 1960's. He gave me a job because I was a friend of his younger daughter. Mr. Niblack was a fine, honest, generous, intelligent man...a perfect person to run a health-related business. I learned to work hard and take care of my product because it was something people relied own for their health. Working at Niblick Foods was a high calling. I am so happy to find that Niblick Foods is still in business and, based on the letters posted here, is still providing a high quality, nutritious, and valuable addition to human diet. The selection of hot sauces is crazy! As a local culinarian its nice to find a spot to get some spices for home that nobody else carries.

A baker's dream! Extracts, flours, spices, dried fruits, nuts, chocolate by the massive chunk- it has a wonderful selection. Did you know you can get professional grade parchment paper by the dozen double sheet size here? It's so much better than the stuff sold in a roll at supermarkets. It's in a nice location as well, with lots of other stores to visit while you are there and several placs to catch lunch at between shops. read more

Niblack Foods is literally my most favorite place in Rochester. Walking in the place and perusing the aisles is like a brainstorm for any cook- there's no way that you can walk in the place and not buy *something* because there is something for everyone. The selection of ingredients inspires adventurous new projects and learning about different ingredients for recipes. The selection of local honey, barbecue and hot sauces is great (I routinely find my Uncle Ralph's Texas Twister sauce- ay-may-zing!!!!), there are more legumes and grains than you can feasibly shake a stick at, and if their spice and baking section doesn't carry it, it probably doesn't exist. Furthermore, all of it is vastly cheaper and of excellent quality, as many of these items can be found in supermarkets or groceries for usually double the price. The service is excellent, vinegars and oils are always available for tasting and recipes are scattered around to help you use all your new finds. I buy ALL of my spices, pure vanilla and vanilla beans, lentils, rice, quinoa and farro here, and usually leave with a few other things as well. You will not go wrong if you walk in here. When I moved to California for 6 months, this was the place in Rochester that I missed the most- and my family out there loved the barbecue sauce! Go, see, and be inspired! read more
