"What's in your head, in your head? Zombie, zombie, zombie" (Cranberries) When the Executive Producer of television's The Walking Dead partners with one of the show's stars in a restaurant venture, well it's a safe bet the restaurant will have a Walking Dead/Zombie theme. And that's exactly what I saw at Nic & Norman's. Owned by Greg Nicotero (executive producer, director, and special effects wiz) and Norman Reedus (actor who plays Daryl Dixon), there are five Nic & Normans across the South. As expected, the interior is covered with Walking Dead zombified artwork and cast photos. The pub-style menu is heavy on soups, salads, burgers, appys (nachos, shrimp, sliders), steaks, and entrees. My group shared a bunch of the appetizers - pickle fries, brisket nachos, and fried mozzarella. I sampled the fries and nachos and gave them high marks. My lunch was a Bloody Mary, and a large Wedge Salad ($14) of iceberg lettuce topped with crumbled blue cheese, pico de gallo, pork belly burnt ends, blue cheese dressing, and a balsamic drizzle. The salad was excellent and was very filling with quite a bit of those pork bellys all over the big wedge of lettuce. The coolest part of my lunch definitely played to their Walking Dead theme. That's because floating atop my Bloody Mary was something resembling an eyeball. That's because a lychee nut can resemble an eyeball when properly prepared! I had a very enjoyable lunch and a fun experience checking out all of the Walking Dead artwork and merch. read more

What a jem! This is a can't miss in downtown Louisville. The design and feel of the restaurant is warm and cozy. The food was off the charts. The flavor factor was a 10. Our server was Destiny who was an absolute delight. Very knowledgeable and a great resource. The pickle fries and brussel sprouts are a can't miss. I highly recommend the Nic-N-Chicken. It comes with a side of cajun cream corn that was fantastic. If you ask Destiny for the recipe, she'll give it to you. read more

tl/dr good food, good bar, good service (with asterisk) Nothing amazing but a good spot to chill with a burger and a beverage. A 4-rating on a curve because our expectations were low and they over-delivered. Looks like a tourist trap but isn't. I had their basic burger. It was cooked to the correct temp, not falling apart, tasty. Also, aggressively seasoned/salted. The spicy pickles are a nice touch. The large wedge salad was excellent. My wife had a strip steak. Again, cooked to the correct temp, also on the salty side. But that said, none of it was hiding inferior ingredients. It's just how they do things. For the management: We had a new server. Nice kid. Was really trying and had a good attitude. It's not her fault that she hasn't been given enough training. Bringing the check while we were still eating isn't just a bad look, she was shutting the door on the potential for dessert or drinks. I give her a break because she was obviously inexperienced. I was randomly craving a wedges salad on a lazy day. Does this happen often, no? But hey... this is what food delivery is for. When searching this rather strange craving on my food delivery app, Nic & Norman's came up. I realized I still haven't tried this place, so let's give it a shot! The wedge had blue cheese, pico, pork belly burnt ends, blue cheese dressing and balsamic drizzle. The drizzle was a really nice touch, it helped balance the richness of the blue cheese. I will say it was a TINY bit short on flavor on it's own. Though I am guessing the dressing is housemade, because it was really fresh and yummy. The pork belly and pico didn't add the punch of taste I was hoping for. Still a decent salad, but I would probably go with something else next time. Luckily, I added avocado and steak. Now this made it all come together, particularly the steak, which was beautifully cooked and had a slight, but well balanced charcoal flavor. The smokiness with the bite of balsamic and depth of blue cheese was really pleasant. A perfect meal for lunch. Packaging felt a little messy and without too much consideration, but I will reserve my option on their plating until I am on-site. read more

I was excited to check out a new place and this was such a great experience. I decided to dine in at the bar and it was pretty empty when I arrived! They did have happy hour but I opted for a drink on the regular menu since it was on well options! The ambiance of this place was pretty dark. Just a warning, if you have AT&T-good luck getting a signal! I had no service which sucked because I was dining solo and like to be able to scroll my phone. However the bartender was nice enough to provide me with the WiFi code, I still couldn't get calls or make any. As for the food, i started with the wedge salad and omg it was so good. For the main course, i ordered The Buffalo chicken sandwich and it was delicious! the fries were also really good! I couldn't finish my sandwich or my drink(very strong) no complaints here. I'd love to come back with friends. The menu has a nice variety, next time I will go for the turkey burger..I heard it's delicious! If you're in the area, make sure you check them out. read more

Saw the deconstructed chicken pot pie....an open face biscuit, with fried chicken strips, and a vegetable roux poured over it all. I'm thinking a fried chicken pot pie? With biscuits? That sounds awesome. It weren't. You have to really note the description here: vegetable roux. I was thinking the gravy/roux portion would be chicken-based, ala pot pie version, but it is not. It's some oddity of violent acidity and pungent flavors your mind can't quite determine, but your tongue fully rejects. It's impressive how offensive it is. I don't know if this version has just sat out for weeks, or if this is an intended flavor, but I was thinking it'd have some sense of chicken or thyme or parsley involved. (It doesn't.) The biscuit is quite dense, so the mouth feel for this dish is a dry biscuit, a chunk of fried chicken (unremarkable), and a micro-dab of the roux for moisture. Fortunately, the waitress offered hot sauce, and I ended up dousing the plate, just so I could eat something. This could be an outstanding dish, and probably was at some point.....but a vegetable 'roux' on top of a dry biscuit with a generic chicken strip across the top isn't it. read more

I'm a big fan of getting a good gourmet burger and Nic & Norman's in downtown Louisville is without a doubt a spot for exactly that. If you're not familiar, Nic & Norman's is owned by Greg Nicotero & Norman Reedus from The Walking Dead. They have quite a few of these locations in the U.S. and this one here in Louisville is one of their newer locations. Upon walking in, you're greeted with a hallway leading to the host desk with pictures of both Nic and Norman throughout the dining area. There is plenty of space for seating and on this particular Sunday they wasn't too terribly busy. I sat at a booth and checked out their menu which offers the aforementioned gourmet burgers, soups & salads, steaks and plenty of shareables. I decided to try their pickle fries which are deep fried pickle spears that come with ranch or any other dips of your choice. The pickle spears came out rather quickly and were very hot and tasty. I decided to go with their pimento bacon burger which is topped with their house-made pimento cheese, bacon and arugula with a side of sweet potato fries. The burger was a very good size and had such excellent flavor and quite juicy. The fries also were very tasty and paired nicely with the burger. My server was very attentive and on it the entire time so I never once felt like I wasn't taken care of and he was very friendly. Overall I absolutely recommend coming here as the vibe is very chill and doesn't feel too terribly fancy. The prices are all rather fair for what you get and the also have an extensive bourbon selection along with other beers and wines for you to check out. This is a spot I'll definitely be coming back to. read more

Our group of 11 sat at a large booth for lunch at about 1230. Austin was our friendly server. I ordered salmon with sweet potato fries. Others ordered fried haddock, chili, brisket, prime rib pita, mexican burgers. The restaurant has a warm brick and wood decor. It was very cool in temperature. The silverware is nice and napkins better than most paper napkins. I forgot to take pics of our meals. They were esthetically excellent. Tried Nic and Norman's for the first time today. Hostess was friendly and seated us right away. Server let us know as she passed by she would be right with us and she returned promptly. I ordered the Greg's choice burger and my daughter ordered the Caesar salad. Both food and drink were really good. I would recommend this place. Gathered with my sorority sisters for dinner and fellowship to catch up during my trip to my hometown for the holidays and Nic & Norman's offered a great central location in downtown Louisville with great drinks and good food! Although this is more of a gourmet burger joint, after a week of eating rather heavy with pastas and soul food, I was craving a good salad...The wedge salad with added salmon was everything I needed it to be- filling, fresh and yummy! The blue cheese dressing with balsamic drizzle was a great combo. The old fashioned was made perfectly! So much so I ordered a second. I miss being able to get great bourbon drinks for a reasonable price, so this old fashioned was like a great welcome home in a glass! read more

This meal was wildly disappointing to everyone in our party. First the appetizers: pimento cheese looked like liquid nacho cheese, fried pickles were soggy from cool fryer oil and the spinach and artichoke dip had cold unmelted cheese. Those that ordered cocktails all found them to be overly sweet. The folks who ordered fish and chips found it to be overly greasy and flavorless. The chicken pot pie dish was interesting but those that tried it said the chicken might have been better without the ladels of gravy (you cant just order chicken tenders though). I had the turkey avocado burger which was well cooked and well seasoned but they forgot the avocado and there were exactly 4 wilted leaves of arugula under the patty. The bun was a generic preservative loaded factory bun branded with the restaurant name. This place seems to be oft recommended here but it cant be for the ambiance or food. So I had 2 different experiences at Nic & Norman's. My first experience was fantastic and I owe that. To Austin who really went above and beyond and exemplified customer service not only was he courteous but he was an accommodating friend and with a smile. Our party had requested but he didn't mind checking things with the kitchen to ensure our experience was great. He even made recommendations on the menu which were spot on. The party I was with wasn't even considering the Philly fries but he vouched for them . Pickle fries were nice a crispy with thin spears just enough pickle and batter. For myself I got the lunch menu meatloaf sliders with sidewinder fries. The gravy was a bit salty. But the meatloaf had a nice crust on it and smokiness so it was perfect for lunch. The 2nd experience was lackluster and yes I blame it on the shear volume of people in the restaurant and for a possible dinner rush but it was so chaotic. Our server was less attentive possibly due to being overwhelmed she seems like she wasn't as familiar with items and tried to be accommodating but certain customizations seemed to be poorly executed. We have a gluten intolerant friend who is very sensitive with consumption. The server tried to be accommodating but was not sure about what veggies fame with the dip trio instead of bringing what was on the gluten free menu we ended up with regular dip trio which wasn't surprising since she seem to not know what was gluten free since she asked what dip needed to be removed since it was only three. We informed another server she offered to bring hummus and a side of veggies. The original order was a side of cucumbers since it was gluten free and our friends had asked what veggies but was told that only a few were placed on top. Another stablemate asked for goat cheese on the side and it was all over her salad. A few other table mates ordered steak and the steaks preparations were mixed up. I kept it simple with the brisket nachos which were fabulous but the cheese was a bit cold and was congealed by the time I dug in. But the home made chips were nice and crispy. Overall having 2 experiences drastically different I'm glad the first one had us wanting to come back because if our second experience was the first we probably would not have wanted to return. read more

This place is hidden down whiskey Alley. I walked all the restaurants around looking for somewhere that served a full meal instead of a sandwich and decided to come here. I asked my server (Karyon) if I could order the fish and chips but sub the slaw for the Cajun cream corn and he said I could. The fish was one huge filet. It was seasoned well and very flaky. The chips were thick, curly, seasoned fries. The cream corn was the best part of the meal. Cajun seasoning, peppers and other yummy things. The reason for the 4 stars is the unprofessionalism of the server. He spoke to me like I was his buddy in the street not a customer. He also reaked of weed when he came to my table. I don't care what a person does in their personal life but when I am trying to eat I am not interested in that smell. Other than that, everything was great. read more

Really haven't had service this poor in a long time. The only thing preventing me from giving them 1 star is that the food was actually decent. Our server was terrible... she acted like she did not want to be there and was barely even present. The bourbon flights took forever to come out and nothing was explained when they came (no info on what was what). We finally flagged her down to order our food which took another 30 mins to come out and thy got my coworkers meal wrong. They did bring out her salmon fairly quickly but again our server was non-existent. I'm not even sure we got a refill on water all night. We actually discussed our rating as a table before we left and everyone was just surprised at the lack of service. Good service can overcome a multitude of sins in a restaurant but it can also overshadow good food in all the wrong ways. Really hate to say it but Zero interest in going back to eat here again. read more

The photos are the only real decorating for the restaurant. Plenty of Nic and Norman. The fried mozzarella was good. The fried chicken pot pie was a disappointment. It was salty. The dish didn't satisfy either the fried chicken or the pot pie aspects of the dish. Norman's Pick Burger (Impossible Burger) was only OK. Other than the photos on the wall, there was nothing to distinguish the restaurant from any other restaurant that serves bar food. The bar is a draw: long and well stocked. read more

I decided to try Nic and Norman's on a whim. My husband and I were walking around the waterfront and wanted to try a place close to downtown. The restaurant is owned by two actors from the walking dead. The staff was really nice and helpful. My husband got the burger and he said it was really good. I like that they have the name branded on the bun. I got the fish and chips. The fish was deliciously seasoned, and the chips tasted really good as well. However, I like tarter sauce with my fish and the tartar sauce here was terrible. It was extremely bitter and sour tasting. It left a horrid taste in my mouth. I had to drink alot of soda to clear my palate of that flavor. I had to eat my fish without any sauce (sad face). read more

We went to Nic and Norman's before a play at Kentucky Center. At 5:30 on a Saturday there were just a few tables taken so we had plenty of room. We actually selected the bar because GA/Texas was playing. Bartender was very attentive. We ordered couple of drinks and then some fried mozzarella for an appetizer. Really tasty. More like cheese curds than typical fried mozzarella sticks. For our entrees, I ordered the pork shank with mashed potatoes covered with Cajun cream corn. Really delicious! Loved the corn addition. It added moisture to the pork dish. My husband ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and green beans. I was so busy enjoying mine that I didn't notice he had pushed his plate aside with about a third of his meatloaf left. When I asked him if he was full, he said , no, it just wasn't very good. So I took a taste. First, it was cool temperature. So it had not been heated thru before serving which was disappointing. Then the flavor was a little weird. Hard to describe but a bit of an aftertaste. One of the other bartenders cleared the plate and asked "as good as your mother's?" My husband just said "no". No further discussion. No request to clarify his comment. It was ok tho. Didn't have a "bad" experience. We will just not have the meatloaf next time! read more

We came on a Friday night and it was not busy at all so we got sat right away upon arrival. The server did take a minute to get to us before we were greeted. We started out with drinks and then went straight into our meal. We opted out of getting app. I got the turkey burger and it was really good. Turkey meat is usually pretty hard to get right just because I feel like it is usually under seasoned but this burger wasn't. It had a lot of flavor surprisingly. The okra could have been hotter but it was just like your average fried okra, nothing special about it. I also tired the brisket Mac n cheese and it was just okay, for the portion size I don't think it is worth the price given that there isn't much meat with the dish. The cheese for me was way too much and over powering. Besides the burger it seemed like everything else was lacking. We tried something new in town but I don't think it'll be a spot we would return to if ever to come back. read more

We stopped in for dinner on a Friday evening at 6 p.m. It was not busy and we were seated quickly. We were royalty of two. Our waitress, Naomi was great, super friendly and cheerful. She offered suggestions for dinner based on what we said we liked. We ordered a bacon pimento burger and a Mexicali burger, both with curly steak fries. Our drink orders were a Creamsicle martini and That Bitch which is a blueberry gin cocktail. Both were good. The restaurant has a nice appearance. I found out two former actors from Walking Dead opened it. Nothing really sets it apart from others but is comfortable. read more

Great spot for lunch or to watch sports on one of their many tvs at the bar area. The bar seats are comfy and the bar is pretty big. The food is great - we both got burgers and both were cooked perfectly and toppings were fresh. They have lunch specials where regular menu items are cheaper during lunch hours. We had an interesting experience recently at Nic and Norman's. If my stars were based on food alone it would have been a 5. I got the meatloaf and it was so so good! It came with green beans and corn bread as well, and both of those were fantastic as well. My husband went for the impossible burger and thought it was great. The ambience was wonderful and had a lot of pictures of the owners. I wasn't able to capture any pictures because I didn't want to get any random people My main downfall to this place was the service and that was mostly the bartender who wasn't even taking care of us. Our bartender was fine and friendly, however the other bartender was awful. He was taking care of the people next to us and all he could do was bad mouth the city of Louisville!!! If you hate the city you work in then maybe you should just move. It really left a bad taste in our mouth and I don't see us coming back anytime soon, unfortunately. read more
