made an appointment for a car inspection a good 10 days in advance. The shop chose the date. I even dropped my car off the night before so they'd have it first thing in the morning. I also asked them to attach the skid plate and change the fluids. They had my car all day with no phone call. At 4 pm, I called and was told they only had one person who could do inspections and he was at another location, but everything else was done. Fine. I left it overnight again. The next day, still no phone call. At 2 pm, I called to check in. They told me the inspection still wasn't done because the guy was still at the other site. I calmly asked if they had called him to let him know my car was waiting. The response I got was, "You can come pick up your car!" I was stunned. I said I never said I needed the car! I was simply wondering why it was taking two days. This experience felt incredibly unprofessional. No communication, no urgency, and an attitude on top of it. And here's the kicker: I paid $65 for them to "attach" the skid plate. I drove home (two miles away) and immediately heard it dragging. I called them, and they said, "You need a new skid plate!" That may be true, but I should be refunded because whatever they did clearly didn't hold. I took pictures of their so-called repair: two zip ties. That's right! $65 for two zip ties that didn't even last two miles. They had my car for two days, with a lift, full view, tools, and my money, and this was the result. This place will tell you that there is a problem, or create the perception of a problem with your vehicle, one that does not exist. This place is the reason why I don't trust mechanics to touch my '96 4Runner with 375,000 mi on it. They think I'm a sucker coming in the door, and told me things are wrong with it that aren't, likely because I'm a female. I'm not naive to the fact that my vehicle has issues given the age and mileage. I've had this vehicle for 26 years and I know most of what goes on under the hood and elsewhere on it. I decided to trust Nice Guy Auto to simply change the oil. Less than 24 hours after getting it back from them, I noticed a very large oil spot under it, about 8-10 inches wide. I touched it with my fingers to validate what it was, fresh amber oil. I checked the oil and found it to be low on the dipstick. I took it straight back to Nice Guys Auto and told them what I had found, assuming the oil plug or filter was not tightened, something simple, just human error. The next day they call to tell me, they've looked at it and there's a lot of oil all over the engine, which admittedly there is, some of it fresh oil, looking like it had been poured on it instead of in it. Their paper assessment on the invoice read "rear valve cover gaskets need to be replaced, maybe the oil pan too, will start at the top and work their way down". Mind you, it was not leaking at all before they changed the oil. Not a drop on my clean concrete driveway, and then all of a sudden it's leaked almost a quart of oil in around 24 hours? I told them no thank you, we would be picking it up and I would be taking it to my mechanic. I took it to my regular shop, which is quite a drive but well worth it, and showed them the recommendations from Nice Guy Auto. My regular shop had changed the valve cover gaskets in November of 2023, and driving barely 5,000 mi in the time since, I knew they weren't the issue. My mechanic checked it thoroughly and found nothing wrong with it. So did Nice Guy Auto make a mistake or was it a deliberate attempt to try to sucker someone into unnecessary work on an old truck? Either is possible. I am thankful I saw the problem you all created before enough oil had leaked out to tear up my engine. The first picture with my hand in it was less than 24h after they changed the oil. Second picture is 6 days after they "checked it", reporting on paper, that the valve cover gaskets, etc needed to be replaced. No leaks. No additional work done. read more

I want to say these guys mean well but it seems to always be something with them. Their desk person (customer service rep) is a great guy but when it comes to solutions, the technicians always seem to come back with no specific news on a repair. You pay a diagnostic fee and get half of an assessment on the problem (it's been twice now with them). Then they recommend you take it somewhere else for the fix...which is like what is the point of having paid an outrageous diagnostic fee. I will say they honored the diagnostic when my check engine light came back on after visiting them (they give 30 days). Previous car I brought them, they didn't have a solution for the fix, telling me it was basically totaled, BUT the mechanic wanted to buy it off me...I always found that to be odd. read more

This service garage is at 804 Orapax St, Norfolk, VA. We wasted a lot of our time, trouible, and some money on a Lyft rides after work, TWICE. They couldnt fix a tire speed sensor after two days. They had the car all day on a Fraday, and assured us, "guaranteed" in fact, that if we brought it back on Monday they would be able to fix it. Nope. The car was brought to them a second time, first thing in the morning, again. They had the car all day, again. I show up at closing, and the car hadn't had the work done, again. Both times there was some excuse. Very annoying. I am not sure what is going on, but they are having problems getting their work completed when the say they will. read more

I needed to get a safety inspection done here nothing special and be on my way,but after the inspection they came back estimating over three thousand dollars in repairs to pass inspection. After spending over $1400 they were not able to fix it. When you first go they are very nice. This place seems like a rip-off. I went in to get a tire puncture repaired and was told a tire patch would fix it but it would be extra work so it would be $50. I agreed. After that I heard the technician tell the front desk person James that the steel belt is broken in the tire and that he recommends not driving on this and getting a new tire. But James never told me this even though this is a safety issue. I talked to the technician in the parking lot and he again told me the steel belt in the tire is broken. I found out after coming home and feeling my car vibrating all the way back home and talking to others that steel belt being broken is considered a non-repairable tire per industry standards and is a safety issue!! So I called back and they were completely unapologetic and tried to deny that the steel belt was broken when Brad the technician himself had told me this. Then they said they can get me a new tire but cannot guarantee it will be the same brand as my other three tires. I asked for a refund in that case because they "repaired" a tire that was non-reparable, and which put me at risk for a tire blowout and also couldn't get me a new tire to match the other tires, but they refused. This is a serious safety concern. But they just seem to be all about the money instead of caring about customer safety. I went to another place and they told me right away this is a safety concern and got me a new tire. This after I already Wasted money at this place on a tire that's unusable. I needed an oil change for an upcoming trip. I called multiple places and no one did mini coopers except for the dealership which cost way more than I was willing to pay. I was worried about any critical issues that needed to be fixed to avoid potential hazards on the road, while also worrying whether I'd be met with a finaglin' weasel typical of most auto shops who try to convince you that you hella delusional gurl, that your 4 banger got 99 problems, but a switch ain't one--but NO. That was not my experience here at all. Jason was honest! He only pointed out what needed to be changed (ie. brake pads, spark plugs) and I appreciated his efforts to save me papah. Rarely write reviews but feel like we need to share.... We took our car here to get the transmission replaced (got ruined from a railroad track, was in good condition before the incident and had wise car people look at it first so we knew exactly what was wrong). Was one of the better quotes in the area, plus the place seemed clean. On the ride home from the car being "fixed", it made a new weird noise while driving, esp while accelerating which we got on video. First drive to work and it overheated. Took it back to the shop, they looked at it and said that it needed a new radiator. And that it was not their fault and that we would have to pay over $1000 more dollars to get it fixed. (cost $250 to do it ourselves, with buying supplies from scratch not in bulk) Yet, the radiator was in good condition before we took it to the shop and it has never even came close to overheating before. Every part by the radiator was in perfect condition after the accident! YET they still said it was not their fault.... Dont worry, it gets even better sadly. Well we did it ourselves with the help of several car people, crazy enough, there was ATON of transmission fluid in the radiator. We had to flush it many times, and are still working on cleaning everything out. Really wish the reviews were still true sense we trusted them with our car during a crazy time....But instead they made our car undriveable and refused to help. read more

As a younger woman who knows nothing about cars, the very idea of going to the mechanic usually scares the crap out of me because previous experiences have involved mechanics trying to upsell me with nonsense. THIS PLACE IS DIFFERENT I PROMISE. I brought my car in for a brake job, and from the moment I called to get the quote I got the sense that Bobby knew what he was talking about and cared about the quality of work. the price was reasonable, especially after other mechanics quoted me double what he did (to the point where my dad called them back to make sure the number wasn't too good to be true). The whole thing was oddly calm and comforting, no bullshit. I was in and out in an hour, which was super impressive, and now my brakes feel amazing. DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE!!! THIS OWNER IS A SCAMMER!!! I went to NiceGuy on Dec. 15th requesting the following: State Inspection, front side markers, head light aim, and rear brake shoes replacement. The owner himself, a short tempered, bipolar white guy with a mustache, could not give me an exact quote prior to dropoff. They did the work I requested and called when finished. when they called, I asked how much I was spending, the owner himself told me around $300. When I arrived, my total was $608.73!!! When I asked why, I was given an EXTREME AMOUNT of attitude from the owner as he raised his voice at me claiming that he quoted me over the phone at $560 which never happened. He only got angrier when I told him I never received that quote. He preceded to continue to get angry when I asked him why he was give me an attitude and when I asked who runs the place. He continued to get even more angry when I called him out for LYING to me and proved it in front of him and the people who work for him! Eventually, after swiping my card and signing documents, he handed me my key and said "GOODBYE, PLEASE DON'T COME BACK!" So, for any of you out there looking to have any sort of work done on your vehicle, DO NOT COME TO THIS PLACE. THE OWNER IS A SCAMMER. Initially I was greeting and welcomed by Jason. But it quickly turned into the most terrible experience. He seemed very overwhelmed due doing admin work and mechanical work so when he came to finally speak to me about my car he quote on quote said " your mind is fucked up". All because I was asking mechanical questions as he is the professional. I found that very offensive and inappropriate. I needed my safety inspection for my car and so I called to see if they could do it the day of. It was already 3pm so it was pretty late to get a walk-in; but they scheduled me the next day. I got there about 20 minutes early and he took my car in right after I finished some paperwork about the car. The inspection was quick and I was in and out after 25-30 minutes. James was the man at the desk who helped me out with the appointment and was nice and courteous about the "wait". I had no appointment and the gentleman at the desk (who didn't know me) said so you're here for your oil change. I was impressed. He then told me it would be about an hour before they could get to the car. I said, no problem I have to do another errand and I will be back and I will wait. I did my errand, came back and the car was already in the bay. Once agian, I was impressed. Then while waiting I over heard another customer who said, "I will never take my car to any other place because, these guys are honest, friendly and will only fix what needs to be fixed." It's worth the drive, good quality work for a affordable price and he is so cheerful. Bought a used 91 Jeep that unbeknownst to me, was about to give me some work. A week or so after I bought it the Hydraulics for the clutch had blown. I went to Nice guys and spoke with Jason about it. He did a couple tests, walked me through what he thought it was and was very thorough about it. I felt comfortable leaving it there based on that interaction and the yelp reviews. That process turned out to be a long one, but everyone at Nice Guys stuck to their word, honored their warranties and probably gave me the best deal in town once it was all said and done. Took my Jeep back a couple times for other work and they consistently do really good work, take the time to walk me through what they did and give me tips or pointers on things I should look into myself or have them look into.
