I grew up in "Hunktown" - The old West End of Bridgeport, where many residents were from Hungary. A bakery called Zeislers had a fantastic Caraway Seed Rye. Zeislers, and most of Hunktown is no longer, but if you want to know what that rye bread was like, go to Nice n Fresh and get a loaf. I live up in the Valley now, but when I make a trip down, I buy several loves of the rye, and freeze them. My daily treat is two slices toasted for Breakfast! read more

Makes me sad this place got so bad , use to be the absolute best. Now Everything taste terrible and bacon egg and cheeses are now pretty much inedible your lucky if you get melted cheese . Nice n Fresh has a huge variety of cakes, pies, pastries, breads, and just about anything else you'd want from a bakery. Everything in the place is seriously delicious-looking, it's always a hard choice pick just one special treat. My personal favorites are the Linzer tarts (both small and large sizes) - a tender shortbread filled with tart and sweet jam topped with powdered sugar - and the giant fluffy Portuguese rolls. The service is always really friendly and even when it's busy, you always seem to be out the door with your goodies in just a few minutes' time. Definitely worth checking out if you're the area. read more

A classic Italian bakery BUT their goods are baked elsewhere and brought here, so they are not fresh and you can taste the difference. They don't have anything too new or creative so if you are looking for fancy cakes or something really special/custom made, you should go elsewhere. This is place USED to be good but now it is TERRIBLE! I bought cookies that looked good under glass but when I got them home were actually frozen solid. Shame on them passing everything off as "Nice & Fresh." The worst part--I also bought a co-worker a whipped cream birthday cake (again behind glass looked okay) but I was so embarrassed when my coworkers cut into it. The whipped cream cake must have sat there for days because it was cracking at the base and it felt and tasted like dry rubber! This is not an exaggeration--most just dumped their piece after a few bites. Granted, the cakes do look good but they are not fresh or tasty as they appear! The WORST part is that "Nice and Fresh" does NOT stand behind their products and REFUSED to reimburse me or give me another cake when I visited them the next morning. If you DO NOT want to be embarrassed at a social event DO NOT buy your bakery goods from Nice and Fresh. Their food is anything but fresh and the customer service is DISGRACEFUL. So far NOT impressed I went in to order a custom cake for a baby shower, the cake lady gave me her number and told me to text images of what I want which I did, with no response what so ever. I called was told she'd be in at 3, I called back she was still not there. I left a message with my name and number, no call back! Just called again and she is not there!!! How do you run a business like that? After reading the reviews I'm thinking this is NOT the place for me I will look elsewhere since it seems you have no interest in accommodating me! DO NOT GO TO THIS BAKERY!! We went here for them to make a cake for our daughter's 2nd birthday. My wife consulted with Liz on what she wanted, supplied pictures of items for the part to give her an idea of the colors we wanted as well as dimensions for the cake stand we would use. When we got the cake the colors did not match the items we had sent her and the cake didn't fit the stand. Called and asked her to fix it and she denied getting dimensions or color scheme from us, but of course we had the texts to prove it. She called me a liar over the phone, refused to fix it and then had the nerve to ask us not to come back and ask her to make us a cake. She then hung up on me and wouldn't come to the phone when I returned, she instructed her worker to say she left. Zero class and absolute worst customer service I have ever experienced and we were a returning customer. The first cake we got from here last year was freezer burnt, they then made us another which was good, but now this. 3 cakes with 2 being awful is terrible, this isn't baseball after all. Needless to say we will never be going back and never recommend anybody go here, chances are you will be extremely unsatisfied just like we are. read more

Was in yesterday to purchase a bagel with cream cheese. Asked for it to be cut in half. Got in car, opened bag and it was not cut in half. When approaching the counter to place my order the young girl let out a sigh because she was on her cell phone and had to put it down. The owners daughter was out front showing the other girls how to move the bread around in the display case. She was handling the bread without gloves and the other people working behind the counter did the same. No one behind the counter or in the kitchen was wearing a hair restraint or gloves. Does not look like they care about food safety. Wonder if anyone working there has taken the food safety certification class? Will not be back. Need to handle food in a safe manner. read more

I've actually never physically been inside Nice N' Fresh, but I can imagine that it's some heavenly bakery that produces nothing but delicious cannoli, shortbread cookies, bavarian cream pastries and mini custart pies. I just got back from a vacation in France, and I CRAVING some croissants! That's where Nice N Fresh Bakery comes in... I was jet-lagged, and so I woke up at 3 am, tossed and turned until 4, and then finally began my search for a good, affordable, local bakery. I couldn't find a listing for this place, at first, but then I remembered a place that I used to stop at, on the way to work, on a cold Winter's morning. I decided to see if it was open. The lights were on, and the sign said "open", when I pulled up to the door. Inside, there were fresh croissants and baguettes! Oh, Joy! My dreams have been fulfilled! After I'd paid for my purchase, I asked the girl, "what time did they open?". She said 6, but that the doors were opened before that. So now you know. This little bake shop makes all kinds of breads; French bread, Italian bread, Portuguese bread. They also have a huge assortment of pastries, cookies, and cakes. I've had their hamentashen, before, when I had a craving for that, too! The prices are reasonable, and it's not a hoity-toity cake shop. They just make everything, and they make it good. read more

I purchased a prune breakfast ring and 4 sfogliatelle's on July 26. The prune ring was good, however, the sfogliatelle's were old - tough, chewy, stringy, the filling was not creamy and the ends were too hard to eat. I called the Nice n' Fresh Bakery - I was told that they do not keep track of when the pastries are put in the case - REALLY? Then she told me that she checked with the baker and he said they were fresh. I know that fresh ones would be crispy, not tough and stringy. (I've had them many, many times before) Do they sell the old ones first? Do they keep the old ones in the case to sell to some unaware buyer? At $1.40 each, it doesn't pay to take them back from where I live, but I will NEVER go there again. The service is great, very friendly, and priced that doesn't hurt your wallet. I order some breads and cookies and they were delicious. I usually choose this bakery over others simply because they have pretty tasty good items at reasonable prices, but this morning a few customers (who turned away and left) due to having to wait a long time for someone to turn to then and say "we'll be right with you" or something to let them know hey we see you just give us a moment, but nope, nothing. The final straw was there being a fly in the counter with the baked goods, the lady in the striped white and yellow shirt, quietly said she knew to her fellow co worker, but didn't do anything about it or apologize. I have purchased several pies from Nice N Fresh and they were fabulous. I love their cannoli pie (with and without chocolate chips) and am quite particular when I purchase bakery items. I also loved their clamshells (SFOGLIATELLE) and thought it was very good. I still prefer New Haven and NY for these but I did enjoy the one from here. I would say "give them a try" because all of my experiences have been good. read more

I absolutely love their cupcakes! They are not only delicious, but the price is unbeatable. I personally prefer their cupcakes over the Magnolias, Sprinkles, and Melissa's cupcakes. If you order ahead of time, they make sure to bake them fresh on the day you want them. Called Liz to have her make a cake for my sons birthday. Told her exactly what I wanted, she told me to text her the next day and that she would get back to me on a time. I texted no response. Called the shop to speak to someone and told them I could be there by 12:45pm. I get to the shop they tell me the cake lady just left. Then they proceed to call that person back and tell them I am there, to which they came back to me and said they misheard then the first time and thought she said 4:45pm. I can deal with one oversight maybe two. Nice N Fresh Bakery is not nice nor is it fresh. I purchased several items from the bakery for Easter. The stuffed breads were mislabeled, the cookies were stale and the chocolate cream pie had only 10% chocolate. When I went to complain to the store management they brushed off my comments and gave me excuses as to why their product was not up to par. I paid full price and they did not deliver. They offered me nothing in return - not even a "sorry". If you want stale bakery goods and mislabeled foods, go there. If not, go to another bakery where they appreciate their customers. read more

I been here quite a few times. I bought a loaf of broccoli bread. I went to cut it. It was all moldy. I brought it back and got a fresh one from the back. I also bought a muffin recently with a hair in it. Needless to say that totally grosses me out. I threw it away. Havent been back since. The rolls seem to be fresh. I dont know about the other stuff. I purchased a birthday cake on the 14th of November and called to see if they would be able to accommodate my request. I was traveling the next day to celebrate my granddaughter's 16th birthday. The quality of the cake was extremely dry with a pasty buttercream frosting. I requested a marble cake for my order instead I was given a yellow cake in the middle. I reached out to the store personal to request to speak with the manager. I called on Friday the 17th to discuss the issue. The staff stated they would give the message to the manager who was not in but would be there at 3 PM. I called at 3:15 PM and was informed she was not there. I would advise anyone looking to purchase cake, pastry or cupcake I suggest you drive a short distance to Ambrosia Bakery. At one time this was the place to get cakes for any occasions. However, the quality of there items are not up to what they show on FB or their website. Buyer beware if your having an event and purchase from them. read more

tasty pastries but the staff are rude and unprofessional. i called for an 8am pick-up for a cake but i got there earlier at 630am. They could just tell me "oh it is too early the cake is not ready yet" instead this lady started to yell and yell about the cake not being ready etc etc. i was the only customer there at that time but it was so uncomfortable hearing her. it feels like i am at fault for being there. so sad because i and my workplace order regularly from them. so i left and said i will be back. then they called me to apologize. the lady said "i wasnt yelling at u i was yelling at myself" come on! whether it was at me or not dont let me listen to it. very disrespectful. she said she gets frustrated when the time is not right etc etc so do u have to yell like that???? and she said her voice just gets loud. well i told her that it is not good for the business. she said she is there for 22 yrs and she knows what she's doing. well, i guess she can learn to show respect for customers and to be more kind to them and to herself. read more

Had a cake from here on Friday Jan. 24,2014, mouse in cake was sour and feasted like gasoline, chocolate shavings was stale and tasted like soap, My daughter had a cake from there on Dec 28,2014 for her mother in laws birthday and when she and her husband opened box they could smell the sourness, called on Monday to tell them and they were very rude and said nothing, this is not the first time either, all their cream fillings are bad sour! the staff here is horrible i stopped by to place an order for a birthday cake the lady who took my order did not speak English which made it difficult to explain my order to her. a few days before my actual pick up date i decided to call just to make sure everything was ok with my order.
