Owners have changed, but the quality is still great while keeping the efficiency and no frills. Price did go up slightly to $35 for a gel mani. They have dip powder now though! The color selection is amazing, and this might be the best dip mani I've had. The edges blend in so nicely, and the surface is almost perfectly smooth. The actual manicure was very basic (no soaking or massage), so I thought it was a little pricey at $50 for dip powder. Service was a little cold, but not unwelcoming, just very quiet. They were offering 20% off for grand opening when I went end of January. read more

the vibe of the salon was very relaxing until the service started. The 2 ladies energy was soo stressed out, they kept asking me if I was ok. Yes, I was ... til Once they started the pedi and mani they were sooo rough! Scrubbing my feet it hurt. And filling my hands like punishment... I asked them to be more gentle with me and they did not respond. I felt like it was expensive for how I was treated. It was very hot inside and these ladies needed a break. Then The GEL paint job on both mani and pedi is so bad. It took a long time and it cost more here than at other places. I tried to voice to them about the nails that needed ti be fixed, and they ssshhhusht me!!! as if they didn't want anyone to hear. RUDE. That was really uncomfortable. They did their best in the end fixing their rush job, they really tired and its fine but I paid $120 for mani pedi gel experience that was stressful. I felt so stressful. And if I wasn't paying attention to the paint job I would have left even more upset of the quality. Quality is everything when your paying top service prices. When I got home I notice imperfections half painted toe nails. I'm not going again. Life goes on.... read more

I'm just not impressed. Paid $82. for natural nails mani-pedi buff. The women were nice enough. It was a plus one spoke fluent english. The place was small and crowded with tables near the door and spa chairs along the wall. I'm unsure of their cleanliness practices. And have no idea how they do with fake nails. I just know for that much $$$ plus tip, I want to be impressed. In my case, I came home and finished the cuticle trim, filed them smooth then buffed fingers and toes shiny. I'm going to just keep doing myself. read more

My go to place for the pedicure. I took a star off because I don't love how they push the pricier options on their menu when all I want is a basic pedicure. Once you get over the pricing push, the pedicures I've gotten are easily 5 weeks plus. read more

This place is not worth the price that we paid. I wanted to take my mom out for her birthday so I called in to make an appointment and they said it costs $25 for mani and $25 for pedi. When I went inside, there were no $25 pedis. They started at $52. They tried to sell us up, charged extra for callus removal which was not done thoroughly. Her mani pedi was a rushed job and the quality was poor. For $82 it was not worth it. For me, I was told that French was only an extra $5 when I called but I was charged $10. I do like how my nails look but when I actually look at them, I can see that they aren't done evenly. My mom told me that the lady criticized her and said that her feet were dry and she hadn't received a pedicure in a long time but it had only been a month since her last. I didn't know their names, but one of the ladies was very kind and said we can come back if we have issues, but I don't think that it was an overall good experience for us. read more

May was really kind and accommodating to my appointment delay. Amy and May provided high-quality service and had my nails well-taken care of. Just stepped out with the best dip powder manicure I've ever gotten! They have the A LOT of color options, I was amazed. All of the tools and equipment are new, the salon itself is spotless and sparkling clean. Kevin did a perfect job removing my previous gel color and shaping my nails exactly as I wanted. Nobody talks about it - how terribly difficult it is to find a nail salon worthy of being sanctuary on a bad day; a nail salon where you can rely on the consistency of the quality and the ability of the esthetician to remember your name. Alas, the pursuit of "my salon" is in many ways like the pursuit of a new love. Your friends will tell matchmake and encourage, they will rave about their own serendipitous experiences and promise you that you'll find your right match too in time. Then you'll finally take a leap after much self prompting; the first encounter will go to well, and like any date gone to perfectly, you may be left looking down at your freshly groomed nail beds wistfully sighing, "but will it last?" It's true what they say of dating in the Bay - the odds are good, but the goods are odd. Having moved from NYC to San Mateo, I found myself a lost city slicker looking for a $25 gel in all of the wrong places. I sampled 10 to 15 of the top rated nail salons in the peninsula only be be let down by egregious prices or a gel manicure that had the longevity of a tech bro's newest pre-seed startup. They say love finds you the moment you stop looking for it, and the same could be said of Nice Nails. My moral was at an all time low when I took a chance on Nice Nails having been so thoroughly jaded by countless chipped gels and cracked dips. I was cautiously optimistic when I noticed that all of the customers seemed to be regulars. The estheticians knew each client by name and the salon was filled with the chatter of women catching up over self care. My heart skipped a beat when a group of young ladies came in for "the usual". Nice Nails boasts an impressive selection of colors and new novelty polishes as well as an exceptionally friendly staff. All of the tools used were freshly sanitized, and the salon on a whole felt very clean. A modestly decorated salon, Nice Nails exudes a quiet confidence of service rather than overdone ambiance. I opted for a gel manicure and regular pedicure that day for a total price of $70 - a steal by peninsula standards. When it was over the esthetician asked me when we would see each other again... overcome, I told her I'd call. The first encounter when well - to well. I was waiting for the shoe to drop on quality, or maybe even a small infection where they trimmed my cuticles. But Nice Nails didn't play games or toy with my emotions the way a ~too smooth to be good for you~ first date usually does. A week and a half later, my nails are still in perfect condition and I am already longing for our next encounter. Needless to say, Nice Nails Salon has left me in a swoon incomparable to that of any Meta bro eager to boast his RSUs. read more

Went here as a walk-in for a pedicure. The salon is clean and the staff was attentive. I got the Deluxe Pedicure and it was excellent. Very reasonable pricing and the pedicure chairs are comfortable and relaxing. read more

Very rude and they do not respect people's time and money. Taking all kinds of walk in's which then makes them rush and do an absolute shitty job!!! On top of that never mentioned all kinds of extra fees!! I just left this place with the worse experience I have ever had at a nail shop! I NEVVVERR EVER leave reviews but this needed to be shared. The person who did my pedicure is BELLA and the person directing her very rudely out of no where is MAY. I left with this ugliest gel pedicure and she said she didn't know how to put on stones or designs!!! LIKE WTH! I went in for a mani pedi that their site advertises as around $50. They showed me a menu and I chose the first option, thinking it said $50, but when it was done, I was charged $77. They kept trying to upsell me on gel after I said no about 100 times -- it was very aggressive and I felt uncomfortable. I have a cut on my toe around my cuticles, and three days after the service, 8/10 fingernails have chipped, some worse than others. I would not recommend this place to anyone else. read more

I needed a new dip set for a graduation photoshoot, was in the area, and saw the reviews so I decided to give it a try. Although the set doesn't look bad, the process was lengthy and painful. I didn't get her name but my nail tech filed and buffed my nails so much that I was left with weak and brittle nails. Also, I went in for DIP but she used an acrylic brush to place the product on my nails instead of dipping. I've never had to use UV light for dip nails so I was confused when she had me use it. I have gone here a few times and was always really happy to get a pedicure or gel manicure. Unfortunately the last time I went, I had called earlier in the week for an appointment which was confirmed. I arrived to my appointment 10 minutes early and they were still finishing up a client but asked me to come back since they were short staff but also had a few customers waiting to the side. I got a Brazilian here done right before my wedding and honeymoon, and I was burned on either side of my private bits. During the waxing I felt like I was in a back closet, and the surface I was lying on was a towel. I get waxed monthly at European wax center and have never had such a bad experience. I cried in the shower when I got home because it hurt so much. I also got my nails done and they looked beautiful but yeah just a warning about the Brazilian. read more

Definitely recommend this place. I called on NY day with that being my only option to stop in. I needed a fill in with French and a pedicure, desperately. I had called a few places which were closed, so I was grateful that they had an appointment for me. Come to find out they were closed too, but May had gone by to clean up and answered the phone. Wonderful customer service going way above and beyond! And, she did not rush either. My nails and feet look amazing too. And she didn't even mind to do me and my mom's eyebrow waxing at the end. 10 out of 10 in my book!! read more

I went in for a very simple gel nail service. My polish was bumpy and rough, chipping on the corners- they were being filed unevenly and the lady was being rude and telling me they looked fine. I was extremely kind and patient with her but when I PAY money, I pay for good service and the whole staff made me feel guilty for saying something. Never be rude to customers who are kind and asking for adjustments. There are SO many good nail places in the area, save time and energy and don't come here. read more

I usually don't like leaving bad reviews for manicures although most places I went it's just meh quality. But this place really gave me the worst nails. I want gold sparking ombré on red nail. And I end up with either glittering all over or half glitter with no ombré effect. And the lady does my nail has no knowledge how to stick extension, I found my finger flesh is stick on the fake nails afterwards and it hurts to peel it off. Communication is a struggle too. I think the owner might have good skills but unfortunately I'm no luck. And it costs me 65 dollars. Way more expensive than the other places gave me better results. read more

Review for May: OVER BOOKING & OVER CHARGING a client that had to wait 45 minutes to an appointment that we were early too. I will never return and I don't recommend this shop to anyone. I booked an appointment for my daughter with May three weeks before. A day before the appointment May texted me confirming my appointment and asks if 5:30 is still a good time.. she asked if there were any changes. I confirmed that we'll be there at 5:30, no changes. The day of the appointment I get a text message at 5:00 saying she is running 30 mins late. We were already almost to the shop so I park and wait in the car. I see a girl park and walk into the shop at 5:20. When we walk in at 5:30 to sit and wait... I see May just starting to put a new set on the girl who drove up 15 minutes after us while we were waiting for May because she was "running late". May double books appointments and when she saw that I was not happy about it, she decides to charge $10 EXTRA to make sure she factors in her tip. I waited for the customer to leave shop so I can confront May about what happened because she didn't give me any explanation and didn't even apologize, which is very rude. I asked her: So, what happened did you double book appointments? She said "No, we are short one person" after that she stopped talking and never made eye contact. Then, I asked her how much for my daughter's full set? She said $50. I asked how much for French Manicure; she said $10... at the end she said it was going to be $70 because my daughter asked her if she can extend a little line to complete a normal French Mani.. May only put the color in a straight line across nail which is NOT French Manicure.. She said because she had to add a line a little down the sides, that is considered "extended French" for an extra $10! It was a basic French Manicure that you get every where else, nothing more special. I'm sure she'll reply with some excuses to save face on Yelp but we both know what she did was wrong and unprofessional. Don't waste your time ladies! read more

For the last 20 years of my life, I've been a habitual eyebrow wax type of girl. I started getting my brows waxed in the back of nail salon, then upgraded to a real aesthetician. And now that I've tried KD threading, I don't think I could ever go back. Here's some things you may want to know from a first timer like myself... 1) Did it hurt? Yes. But the pain is tolerable and worth the final result! 2) How long did it take? I let my brows grow out for nearly 6 weeks before I came to my threading appointment. The appointment took MAYBE 15 minutes... and my brows came out in the best shape they've ever been. 3) Cost? On this visit, I paid $20 for the brow threading and and extra $10 for a roller tube of castor oil to promote healthy hair growth plus a 20% tip because she deserved it--my brows truly still look amazing and I'm already almost 3 weeks out from my appointment. I highly recommend giving KD Threading a shot if you are in the business of brows and want to step away from traditional waxing! The vibe is definitely upscale yet chill and 100% worth the trip.

Toward the end of my second visit, she again mentioned that my brows were "different" and asked if I had been plucking them (I had not). I thought that was a strange thing to say after I felt her go to town on my brows. When I looked in the mirror, it became immediately clear why she was saying that. My eyebrows were completely uneven, different shapes, and about one-third of one eyebrow had been threaded off entirely. What was most upsetting was the lack of accountability. There was no acknowledgment of the mistake, no apology, and instead it felt like she preemptively tried to feed me negative comments about my brows to cover up the hack job.

However, Mona has absolutely earned that trust with the amazing job she did with them! I found Mona through Yelp, and the reviews are spot-on. She's such a kind, warm spirit with a very loyal client base, and for good reason. You can schedule with her via text, and she is quite flexible to accommodate you as best as she can. She's so detailed and gentle; the entire process was painless and I feel like she took her time to give me the best results. While I gave her free control, she kept my length (which is always my preference) and gave me the arch of my dreams (not too arched but not too subtle either). When I say her own salon, I mean her own salon. She is owner & employee. This is a nail salon for one. One table, one tech. Many shelves. Countless color options; most are from Chanel. No acrylics OR gel. This is old school, healthy, & classic. When you enter, there's a small "coat room," and then you walk into the "salon." It's a warm & even homey space. Framed artsy black & white photos intermix w photos of her family. It's quiet, comfortable, & comforting. She offered me a cup of coffee, which I really needed. And, it was a good cup of coffee! Then it happened. She proceeded to give me the most detailed mani & pedi that I've ever had. Case in point? It was 2 hours. 2 hours for a "regular" mani & pedi. Even more, she's engaging. Like to hell & back. We covered the homeless, loveable but not-so-likable family members, the best carnitas in the bay, & how "women only need a red lip, short red nail, & a pair of great sunglasses." (Coco Chanel lived it, Paloma Picasso said it, & Jackie O followed it). There were also some local politics, & Jesus was mixed in there, too. We mused. We laughed. But despite the convo, Lavinia never lost focus from the job at hand. She's as thorough & professional AF. Basically, I left feeling like I just had a visit w an old friend. A friend, incidentally, who does manicures for professional photo shoots, too. The next time you're rifling through a magazine/newspaper supplement/catalog, & you see a hand modeling a ring, or a flute of champagne... Those nails could have been done by Lavinia. 6 stars if I could.

I went in on 4/11, texted her on 4/12. It was raining pretty hard so I was stuck at home not doing anything crazy to justify the chipping. It's now the 16th and crickets. I spent $150 ($50 deposit, $100 day of service) for gel nails that haven't even lasted as long as regular polish. Not to mention, when I arrived there were no instructions on how to get into the building. No signage. No way to communicate with her. I almost left until she texted me 7 minutes after the scheduled appointment time. I'm pregnant and I was out waiting in the rain as I had taken a Lyft there. I want my money back! I work hard for what I have and this is definitely not worth $150.
