If I could give 0 stars I would. I got my nails done a week ago and got gel x and in less than 5 days all of them fell off, and didn't stay at all. The lady who did my nails pushed the nail so far into my cuticle that it started to swell a day later and when the nail fell off I saw that it was becuase my cuticle was bleeding, because she pushed it so far in. I am so glad my other place was closed and I stopped in at valentine nails. They were great and able to fit me right in! My Mani was more then amazing. She not only massaged my hands but also massaged my back for a good 10 min! I was in heaven! The pedi was one of the best I've had in a long time! She also massaged my legs for a long period! I am definitely not coming back to this place. First off, the guy who was doing my nails kept cutting off so much of my cuticles that I kept flinching. It kept happening like at least 5 times that it started bleeding on three nails. Then when he was putting on the final coat, he was mixing the colors from each nail to each nail (I asked for two different colors) that the color isn't pure. There's glitter where there shouldn't be. The lines aren't even. It's bleeding around the nails. There's gel clunked onto my skin. Worst place ever. ------ I got a message from the owner saying that she doesn't have any male employees, asking me which shop I went to. I had to double-check all the store photos on Yelp to make sure I didn't mess up my review. It was definitely this place. If she doesn't have any male employees, then I definitely just got my nails done by someone at her store who isn't even trained to do so! read more

I've been to Valentine Nails twice before the experience that prompted this review, once before and once after renovations and found them to be a good value overall. Nice quality work, clean environment, literally within walking distance for me. Unfortunately, due to last week's pedicure, I ended up having to set a doctor's appointment and am on antibiotics, so I cannot bring myself go back. Unbeknownst to me, I had an ingrown toenail that had been merrily growing under the radar (no pain, swelling, discomfort), but my pedicurist, Lee, must have noticed it, because she started digging for gold. It hurt, but I wasn't paying too much attention, because of what was going on with my manicurist, Vicky (more on that later), but she gave up on whatever she was doing and put my foot back in the water. I don't know if this was due to contaminated tools or contaminated water (bowls are cleaned or lined, but mixing open wounds with foot/leg water isn't a great idea), but in less than 24 hours, my toe was a painful, seeping mess. The ingrown nail was not their fault and I don't blame them for that, but I DO blame them for mangling my toe, introducing infection, and not letting me know there was a problem before they started messing with it. Back to Vicky and my manicure. I wasn't paying attention and she nicked me with the cuticle clippers. No big deal, accidents happen - but she said "look what you made me do" and got huffy. Nails are dried by a single tiny personal fan staged to the right of me, so I was arranged like I was an extra from Thriller most of the time. This posture did not pair well with the impromptu "massage", where she pummeled my back with sharp chops. I told her it was OK, I didn't need this (instead of "For the love of everything, please stop!"), but she got huffy again and stormed off. Regardless of what happened with my pedicure, this made things unpleasant and uncomfortable enough that I would already be reluctant to come back. read more

When they do your nails, they do them with such care. As if they really are into what they're doing and really want to make sure that all their clients are happy. They do a bangin' job for a pedicure. I came in there for some relaxing time and getting my feet pampered. They started off by placing my feet in hot bath water, then the standard steps of getting my toes in check by softening the cuticles, cutting the nails, buffing them, etc. Then they start scrubbing away with a scrub and a massage and then a hot stone...Absolutely loved that so much. Sometimes they'll lotion/massage your hands and legs and sometimes they don't. It could be due to how busy things are, not quite sure, but consistency would be nice. I had such high hopes for this place after reading the reviews. The atmosphere was very awkward and not very welcoming. I went in to get a mani/pedi. Many color selections and I love their massage chairs. I saw Mary and my sister saw Lucy. We both left very unsatisfied. I found their technique very strange. She didn't let each coat dry before adding another coat. Both technicians left streaks. It was very weird to receive a massage right AFTER she painted my nails. I couldn't relax because I was too focused on keeping my nails away from her clothes. After they finished, they just left cuticle oil all over our feet and hands. So our flip flops are soaked right now lol. Once I got into my car, I noticed my nails were all messed up after the oil. They were perfectly fine before the oil, she even made sure everything was dry. We walked over to the register and we asked for change. She kept giving me two 10s. I asked for 1's, she gave me 5's. Really great first impression. I am super picky about my nails and i was impressed. Annie was super honest and knowledgeable and told me style is best for my nails and also what would look the best. She spent ALOT of time shaping and filing to make each one perfect. I could tell she is perfectionist, which i liked. She did a great job communicating with me and made sure i got exactly what i wanted. The end result was awesome. She did a tip, acrylic, and 2 coats of gel polish on top. A friend uses Valentine nails and really liked them. I'm growing my nails and having them manicured every three weeks. I tried to places before I went to Valentine nails. I called Valentine nails at 5:00 on a Saturday, and they said come on in. They were busy, but organized and fast enough to move everyone through. I was greeted right away and seated within a minute. Love this place. Have been going here regularly for over a year now. I first started going here because I lived up the street and it was convienent. Months later I moved to Burlingame and tried a few different places around here, but couldn't find a place I liked. The commute up to San Mateo is well worth it. Unless I tear up my nails at work they always last 3 weeks or more (but I try and change them up every 2 weeks). The whole staff knows me by name, and always offer me hot tea (cold tea on those hot days), and a nice hot (god I don't know what they are called) wrap thing to lay over my shoulders. Free wifi and a nice big screen tv either playing some new released movie or just on whatever tv channel you want to watch. They do get super busy at times so it's usually best to have an appointment (I should take my own advice as I usully just walk in when I have time). read more

Valentine Nails is my go-to spot here in the Peninsula to get my nails done. I feel confident with each person there to do my nails, especially with Anne or Kim. If you're going for a basic manicure, they use this gel-like top coat to help dry the polish faster and makes the mani last much longer than a regular one, this is at no extra charge. After each manicure or pedicure they give you a massage and sometimes a heated neck pillow. They have one T.V. there and they usually play news, Netflix movies, and they're open to suggestions! I definitely recommend Valentine Nails for all your manicure and pedicure needs. I've tried several other nail salons in the Peninsula including; Tranquil Nail Spa in San Mateo, Maite Nail in Burlingame, and Salon Salon in Foster City, and still yet Valentine Nails comes out on top! read more

I'm usually not the type of person to write reviews on Yelp but this is the best nail salon ever. From the first time I went till today the girls are so nice! The nail art is so beautiful. I always ask for a flower on my nails and I am always impressed with the the beautiful designs the girls come up with. terrible! doesn't even deserve a star. I went because I read the yelp reviews and it was close by to my place. I got in the chair and asked my pedicure to be short and round-tipped. She was cutting my cuticle and grabbed a fat chunk of skin on my big toe! She kept pulling it (the skin mass was getting bigger) and looking at me like I was causing her pain. When she painfully pulled off the fat chunk of skin she showed it to me like "haha, look at this." It was bleeding and she kept splashing oil on it and putting pressure on it to stop. Other than that she was giving me a foot/leg massage. The most PAINFUL "massage" ever. Felt like she was giving me bruises.
