Our family pets have been going to Nicholas Veterinary for over 40 years and have never been disappointed

My experience was not good. Explicitly told my dog was up-to-date on vaccination and was just asking for them tto check on a minor injury while visiting area vet went and regave all vaccines. I was horrified. Had they requested documentation I had it on my phone. It was an unethical money grab and may have put my pet in danger. I do not consider them professional vet service. read more

My family used them for 40+ years and they were great.. however, during COVID shutdown the business changed hands, and the new team is terrible. I usually try to give vets more slack, since I am passionate about animals and know it's one of the hardest jobs in the world emotionally... but these guys have just been one disappointment after another. 1. My oldest cat's kidney started to fail. I made the painful decision to let him go. They gave me plenty of time to say goodbye, but when the time came, the Dr just walked into the room, yoinked him away from me by his scruff, dropped him on the table and put him down. I could have set him up there... I could have made him comfortable. Instead, his last memory on this earth was being manhandled by a stranger. 2. I recently rescued a stray kitten. I submitted a fecal sample the day before coming in. When I didn't hear back about it, I figured no news was good news and it was clear. Found out 2 months later that they just never followed up, and she had a parasite that spread to my other 2 cats. I asked them if I could get some of the medication for them, and they said not without bringing them in. Considering these people charge you $60 just to walk in the door, that was out of the question. I ended up just sharing her meds with the other cats, and plan to get them checked out at another vet as soon as I can. She also had chin mites that they also didn't catch and it spread to my other 2 cats. So much for giving her a full checkup. 3. I asked for a quote for getting her spayed. It had a list of the charges including the laser therapy and painkillers and aftercare, but then... "$200 - Misc expenses". Considering their prices have nearly tripled in the last 5 years, I can't help but think that's just a straight up extortion charge. I will never go back to this place again. read more

Well this used to be an affordable vet with less thrills.... Now they are just as expensive or more expensive and you have to sit to be seen even if you make an appointment... they come into the room and take the notes and then it is over a half an hour before the dr comes in and sees you and then goes out and again you wait. I don't know if they don't know what they are doing they told me my dog had a batter infection and then I mentioned it was a male dog because they kept on saying she and they said well males don't get bladder infections because of their anatomy so it must be a different infection... maybe kidney stones. Glad I paid 400 dollars for the blood work to diagnose.... And get no answers. read more

Writing a review bc I genuinely don't understand the negativity... I've been going to this clinic for 4 years for both my cat and dog. They are the most affordable clinic in Wayne county- where else can you go with affordable prices these days? There are times when I've had to wait a while to be seen but that's true for when I personally go to my own doctor as well. I figure it's a trade off for being able to afford regular health care for my babies. The doctor & tech ALWAYS ask what brings you in bc they want you to have the space to express concerns and give all the info you can. Staff is friendly, despite seeing animal parents being straight up rude to employees. Dr. Carter is a great addition to the team- he has helped tremendously in helping me manage and deal with a major health condition with my cat. It used to be hard to get an appointment or get through on the phone, again most affordable clinic in Wayne county... it so much easier to schedule appointments in advance. I don't understand the entitlement that people expect to be seen as walk ins or expect last minute appointments. They don't claim to be an animal hospital or ER.. I have called in an emergency to see if they had any appointments and I understood the chances would be slim to none and just went to a hospital instead. I think it's stressful when your pet isn't feeling well but that doesn't mean the staff or the establishment deserves to be treated like it's their fault for a clients stress. What's not compassionate is your vet that was working yesterday. He made sure our end of life visit was miserable. And made sure he made his money. He tried to apologize and said that he was overbooked and the fact that he was doing 7 other things before coming in our room . They could have told me on the phone that he was too booked. There are so many vets in Wayne county Monroe country are i could have chosen if he was overbooked. When i walked in there was one family there not a whole waiting room of patients . But the fact is my cat was dying i knew my husband knew the vet techs knew . The tech told me that she thought he passed while getting the catheter. He had also just had an episode 30 seconds before he went back for his catheter. He was dying i didn't need him to charge me $65 to tell me so then ask if i was sure i was doing the right thing . And his wording was terrible. I would never recommend a family to take their end of life pet to this facility. read more

service is terrible, the doctors barley pop in and take time to get to know what's wrong with your pet. ive been trying to figure out how to help my dog for over a year and I keep getting some medicine that doesn't even alleviate my pets symptoms completely and no one has even brought up another solution to me. I had hope things would turn around here. The amount of frustration I have with this place is staggering. They are all frustrated as well but the care for my animals has suffered. I should've never given them so much time for things that took them months vs a new vet that took only days. Also still insanely rude on the phone for no reason. read more

My poor pup of 14 years needed to be put down. My husband couldn't get anyone around us to get her in without waiting a week or two. She was clearly suffering and this was not an option. A clinic he contacted actually referred him to Nichol's. They got us in immediately. Not only that, but they explained everything thoroughly, and gave us ample time both before and after the procedure to comfort her and say goodbye. This was our first experience putting a pet down. We didn't know what to expect, but Dr. Gumpper and staff made this an experience we are at peace with. They also stepped up when we literally had nowhere to go. Thank you. read more

My dog was in distress from having an allergic reaction. Therefore, I packed him up and drove an hour from Clinton Township since my family had been going there since 1969! However, when I arrived, I was told the clinic does not do walk-ins anymore and were not making an exception today. Even though my dog was clearly distressed and could not even lie down, I was told they could get him in next week. Are you kidding me! I contacted Nichols to schedule a new patient appointment for my cat for a non-emergency but necessary procedure. I made an appointment about a month out and was impressed that they were able to get a new patient in that quickly. A couple weeks before the appointment I tried to contact Nichols to ask a question, busy line. I called at different times for the next three days and could not get through. After finally picking up the phone, they immediately put me on hold, and never picked up the call. Frustrated, I waited for my appointment. When I got to the office, the parking lot was packed, and doors locked. I tried calling, as posted, to say I was in the parking lot for my app but it was busy. After 10 minutes, I gave up and left. No reminder call, no follow up call to ask why I didn't come to the appointment. Like another reviewer said, first impressions are everything. If I can't get a hold of the vet during a nonemergency, I would never take my pet there in an emergency. WOULD NOT RECOMMEND! read more

We have been going to Nicols for many years, now im looking for a new vet, our vet retired and we have tried to keep our business here but people dont answer phones poor people skills and dont seem to care about their customers or the furr babies.... If I could give less than 1 star I would! I have been waiting for 2 days to find out test results for my cat. I called and was routed to the front desk and they picked up and hung up! I called back and they flipped on their out of office message. I can't believe that a practice could be so poorly run. Staff has gone downhill! They don't answer the phones & when they do the put you on hold & never come back. Never return messages. I actual was on hold 1 hour & 20 minutes until I drove up there & told them the person on hold is me & how long I was on hold. They could care less. They put me in hold anther time for 25 minutes never returned. Called back got hung up on. The can't keep vets... with that staff I can understand why! Run away... find someone else! read more

Stay away! My family had been going to this vet for decades and loved them, but they have been bought out by a chain. All of the previous vets and staff have quit. Only one old vet was left on limited hours/services. The new vet, Dr. John Rysavy, and the new office staff are the most uncompassionate people I've ever encountered working with animals. The clinic never answers the phone, never calls you back, and when you come in during open hours the vet and staff will act like you're an inconvenience. I never write reviews but please do NOT take your pets here. It's a shame the new chain was able to keep the name Nichols, because it's not the same business at all. The only things preventing me from giving a 5 star was the amount of time I waited to see a doctor. My appointment was at 12, but he didn't come in until almost 1:30. Other than that, I was completely satisfied with every other aspect of the visit. My first time visiting this vet. I would recommend this facility very highly in all areas, and I will continue to bring my pets here. Overall, very good. read more

I don't even know where to begin... I'm heartbroken at what has happened to this place. I've been a client at Nichols for over 10 years and Dr. Bilbrey is one of the best people I've ever come to know in my entire life and she is the only reason I gave any stars for the clinic at all. The clinic was purchased by Veterinary United and by the reviews of their other clinics it's easy to see why so much has changed. The staff here has always been pretty consistent, the Office Manager was there for over 20 years and recently left, the receptionists and techs are dropping like flies, and they lost two Doctors in the transition. To Veterinary United: Take the advice from a long standing client, the reason Nichols has been so successful all of these years is because of the staff, without them, you don't stand a chance at the success they have had. read more

Called Nichols Veterinary my vet the past few years, my dog had eaten 5 of his heart guards, I was very worried. The receptionist told me to call a pet poison holiness, of course she never mentioned it would be 95 dollars. And then wished me Goodluck. Have been going here over 30 years. Covid has changed things so much for veterinarians, but with that said, Nichols cares for the animals they see. There is so much heart here. There is no better surgeon than Dr Gumper, who also owns the practice. Dr Bilbrey has been my primary vet, she listens and is very caring. It's hard right now to get through on their phone lines, but be patient and and you will. read more

Man did this place take a nose dive. I have only brought my pets to this Vet for over 20 years and never complained about driving an hour because you knew what you were getting. Nichols Veterinary Clinic has always been an amazing place. From the routine visits to the tough ones, they are always kind, fair and compassionate. Dr. Morrison has been so amazing and seems to go out of her way to check on my dog with a health issue he's been having. I feel like we're a team! The staff is always friendly and you can tell they love the animals. Even with a recent cancer diagnosis for my cat, they're very upfront and honest yet compassionate-- I feel that they are super fair with their pricing and don't push unnecessary items. There's plenty of vets that are closer to us since we've moved, but we still make the trip out to Nichols and hope you will to! read more

Took my dog Dug there FOR THE FIRST TIME today and even with COVID-19 they were AMAZING! She cut her leg and they were the only vet willing to take her as everyone is super booked right now. Everything was done over the phone/ in the parking lot and they really went above and beyond. They were making phone calls via their own personal cell phones had us in and out quick especially for not having an appointment. Dug is on the mend and I've definitely found a new vet! Thank you to the doctor and team, you guys really made a bad situation relaxing and comfortable. read more

I took my basset hound here earlier this week. I called at least 10 vet clinics, included the one we usually go to and no one would see my dog because they were overbooked. Nichols asked me 1 question and when I said my dog was unable to sit or stand there was no hesitation, they immediately said bring him in and call us when you get here. The wait was long, but I expected that since we did not have an appointment. Since no one is allowed in the clinic everything was done on the phone. They came out to the car with a stretcher and 20 minutes later brought my dog back walking. They did not do any unneeded tests, just gave him medicine for his back and hip and off we went. We now have a new vet and with 5 pets that's a lot of business for them. A little compassion and great service goes a long way! I highly recommend this vet office! read more

Awesome staff, my dog passed away on the 2nd of a April. At first I called another place and they were very rude and prices out of this world to have a dog cremated. When I called Nichols they told us to come right in, they had us park in back. When the two women came out to get him, they brought a cart that electrically went up and down. As they get my dog on the cart they are petting him and asking us if we needed more time alone with him. What a difference those two women made, I felt comfortable leaving my baby in their hands, (even though he weighed 85 lbs). I've been taking my pet here for almost 10 years since we always took our pets here when I was a kid. Things have changed for the worst here. There was never a recording before to make an appointment. Now there is which made me very skeptical. All I need is a refill on a medication, but after leaving 3 messages this week I still haven't received a call back or any type of acknowledgement. I pushed every option to try and talk with someone to no avail. I read a lot of recent reviews which have stated that the clinic is now being run by a new company. Obviously, the new company has terrible employees who are TOO LAZY to answer the phone. The message is stating their hours for the week of Thanksgiving 2021 and it's July 2022!! Don't waste your time. It's definitely not the same place that it used to be. read more

I usually don't write reviews especially to places I have went to for years but this place has went extremely downhill. Last two months they haven't refilled my dogs meds on-time which has caused him to have a few seizures that were pretty bad. Called this month for his meds a week ahead. Waited an hour and 15 minutes on hold, hung up and called back, to be hung up again after stating I had wait the hour and 15 minutes, and just was wondering how much longer it would be. My dogs meds are still not ready and now they won't answer a phone call. Wouldn't recommend with the new owners. read more

When i have an appointment with Nichols for my dogs, i usually have to wait (even when i have arrived early), at least 30-60 minutes for my dog to see the vet; ok, so i figure it is what it is. Today, though was a different story. The parking lot was so full, (1 car was ahead of me) i couldn't find a parking space, much less call into the office and let them know i had arrived with my dog (i kept on getting a voice mail message.) i left after that; the staff are very nice, but making an appointment and actually getting to see the vet are very hard. i am done! read more

They need to improve their scheduling of appointments. Today i got here before they opened @ 9 a.m. They added me to their schedule. At 11:00 they said another hour. At 12:20 they said still 8 people before me. My cats have now been in their crate almost 5 hours and missed a feeding !!! Time is money but NO vet is worth going through this bladunt disrespect, ESPECIALLY for our innocent pets who they are supposed to care about. Took My Two puppies in about 3 months ago for a wellness checkup and a fecal test to ensure they were worm free...they never called me back with any results..so i called and they said the fecal test came back negative..i called again to make an app. for a spay..waited a month for a reply just for them to tell me they no longer spay and told me to take them somewhere else..i called 3 days ago because now my puppies have diarrhea and one is bleeding from her rectum..they told me they are a week or 2 out for scheduling appointments and was told to take her to a vet hospital bc it sounds serious..i told them ill just find another vet at this point..i found another vet and they got the puppies records from Nichols and come to find out when i took them in for a wellness check 3 months ago they were negative for worms but postitive for Giardia and they never told me! and that is why they had diarrhea and they were bleeding...i could have treated them if i knew...and that visit was 225 for 1 dog! Let me just say find another vet to treat your fur babies... this place is horrible. read more

Used to go here all the time, but only because I had to bring my dog for the same issue. The last time I called for an appointment but none were available but I could walk in. I asked if they were busy a d they said not too busy. Fine. I went want waited in a hot car with my sick dog for two hours. I called and they said there were still 4 ahead of me. I left. Finally after almost 3.5 hours after I showed up I get a call that they are ready for me. I let it go to voicemail. They do not care about your time or the stress on your pet and expect you to wait hours and hours for treatment... for the same issue that I've had four times previously. Unacceptable. read more

Our Lab went through a really scary ordeal over the weekend. Since the vet was closed, and it wasn't exactly an emergency situation, we spent a lot of time online trying to diagnose the dog. We pretty much narrowed her illness down to Old Age Vestibulitis. We also read a ton of horror stories of vets that were very quick to euthanize dogs with this condition when it isn't necessary. What a relief when we took the dog to Nichols and she was diagnosed with Vestibulitis, and we were not pushed to have unnecessary tests or treatments done. They gave us advice, and slowly but surely, our girl is getting better. Luckily, our fears of suggested euthanasia or a barrage of unneeded tests were for nothing. read more

please don't bring your animals/pets here if you really care for them ... the "doctor" isn't very much help at all barley even examine my pet an I had to pay 2 times for them to do same thing ... just gave me antibiotics and steroids for my dog and told me to come back and call back in a couple days to see if it's worse or not .... the pills did help but as soon as he stops taking them it just comes right back ... there at a loss an can't understand why my dog is still dealing with this after 3 months 2 visits an over 300$ spent on "exams" an pills ... I'm very disappointed in this vet I was told good things which which was not true , receptionist got an attitude with me when I tryed to express my issues with my service politely... but continued to say theres nothing else they can do but keep giving him pills ... just gonna kill my dogs kidney issues or even failure from what I've been told ... my 3 months later my dog is back to same issues as before .... I've been coming here for over 20 years...I love all the vets here..but there is a new Dr who is just amazing!!, his name is Dr Gonzalez...and he will be my cat Maizy and my dog Kita's main Dr...he is so friendly and great with her..really takes his time...Nichols has been around forever..there building might not be that fancy..but they all love the animals unconditionally...and they can keep there prices low.. ..for me..there is no other vet! read more
