Over priced and also seems to be undertone racist management. This place is the closest repair shop near my home, half a block away. Through the years I've stuck my head in the door from time to time to enquirer service but walk away feeling the same vibes I always get. Overpriced and unfriendly when blacks shows up,on purpose. I turns around and go to another shop and it's always half the price than these guys. I'm not alone. All of my black neighbors feel the same way. To day I ask, could they put a horn button on my vehicle. $95 and I have to leave it with them all day. I took it around the corner and had it done @HTI for $40 plus $10 tip. As the owner of a specialty, high-performance vehicle, I'm very picky about where I go to have my car serviced for repairs, upgrades, tune-ups, etc. I've had very bad experiences with dealerships, and nowadays steer way clear of them. So when I found this auto shop (located near the corner of Hampton and Beltline in DeSoto) and brought my car here for the first time, I knew I found a reliable place for my pride and joy. These guys really know what they're doing. They do pretty much every kind of repair you can think of, no matter how small. We had the family van's motor swapped out here (a major repair). We've had flats fixed here. We've had batteries changed, belts tightened, turn signals repaired here. My car has seen plenty of hours here. They've worked on my suspension (struts), steering column (intermediate shaft), and brakes (pads), among other things. I have never been let down with the quality of their service. Not only do they fix up any and all kinds of issues, but they also work on call kinds of cars, trucks, SUVs. One time I remember there being a bunch of high-performance sports cars parked out front, you would've thought they were a shop for only hot rods. But that's not the case. They do old cars, new cars, everyday drivers, summer-time cruisers, and everything in-between. Bobby is everything you want in a car guy. He knows his stuff. One time, I brought my car up here and he could tell what was wrong just by listening while I pulled up. Another time, he figured out what was wrong after looking under the hood just for a few seconds. But the expertise is not just limited to him. The other employees are also just as capable (although I don't know all their names yet). They have a very clean and organized-appearing shop, with enough space to service three vehicles all at once. They are very quick to call you back later in the day when you leave your ride at the shop. Also, they give you an honest estimate of price parts and labor (no haggling, no BS). They usually order parts for you. But you also have the option of ordering parts yourself, and then having them install them for you (unlike in dealerships). I really have nothing negative to say about these guys. This is the ONLY place I will bring my ride for any car problems. If you live near the Lancaster/DeSoto area and need some work on your vehicle, Nickles is the only place you should go. read more

This place was recommended to me by a very trusted friend who has had exceptional experience with them. I thought how could I go wrong? Where do I start.. They claimed to have set my timing, fixed my rough engine issue and rewired my fuel system. The truck ran the same to me and when I switched tanks, the engine quit, so I had to take it back for them to rewire the fuel system like I paid them to do and take another look at why it was still running poorly with no power. When i picked my truck up, the manager was explaining how tricky it was to set my timing and how my radiator exploded because the pressure built up and my electric fans were somehow disconnected, all while his head mechanic was standing behind him snickering. That was the last time I took my truck back. I paid the $300 for the new radiator and vowed to NEVER go back to this place. I was so disgusted with the whole experience that I took the truck home and parked it. Several weeks later, I decide to take a look at it myself. The very first thing I noticed was the harmonic balancer was wobbling like crazy with belts flopping around! I immediately shut my truck down and thought how could the shop not mention this when I picked it up? They HAD to have seen it because to set the timing you have to look right at the balancer! I went on youtube and started to learn about my engine. The first thing I learned is that a wobbling balancer is OBVIOUSLY bad and needs immediate replacement or it could come apart and cause major damage. Again.. how could a supposedly reputable shop not mention this?! Now, thoroughly disgusted with Nickles, I went learned how to fix it myself. I watched youtube videos after youtube videos and joined a bunch of forums and I found out not only was the balancer shot, the timing chain was shot and the timing was advanced to the next cylinder. It was completely off! Why would a shop do this? How could they not know or see obvious issues that require immediate attention? For a shop to release a vehicle that they claimed to have fixed without so much as mentioning the balancer and with the timing that screwed up is a bad, shoddy place in my opinion! I have paid this shop for work that I had to take it back to have them actually DO and I have paid this shop to do work that I myself have had to redo. My truck now runs like its supposed to. I don't like throwing the word "racist" around and will use every benefit and excuse that I can find not to.. but this place? In my opinion, this place is definitely in that vein. I told my friend who recommended the place, who happens to be white, about my experience and he told me another black friend he recommended them to had a very similar experience. He no longer uses them now either. I will credit Nickles Auto with this.. I'm not rich enough to waste more money with them so they made me learn how to work on my own truck.
