Yesterday I decided to go to Auto zone and purchase a can of freon to recharge my AC. It was super hot outside! So I buy this can for $46 and start pumping it into my system. My son has a go at it and before we know it the AC is not working. I had seen this shop before and decoded to try it out. It was past 6 pm so my hopes weren't high. When I pulled up I saw a group of men outside and asked if they were open. A man came forward said they were closed but heard my issue. I told him I would return the next morning. He said my problem would cost $40 to be fixed. The man I spoke with is named Sean. He was really nice. I left my car and picked it up around 5:30 pm. The price was $40 as quoted. My AC problem is fixed and my car was out the same day! We are going to bring our other car here for some AC care. Hopefully the price will be right. This business is also recommended by AAA. D & L Auto Shop - Auto Repair Near Me - Duncanville, Texas

I started going because a relative referred them to me and the shop (found out later it was temporary) fixed their car to what was supposedly satisfaction. I wish I can say something encouraging about this shop...BUT its story is mainly: Its Financial eyes are bigger than its Capacity's mouth. I'm not sure if they are planning to move to a better bigger facility but as it stands right now, they make a habit of over booking themselves. That is a major disadvantage to people like myself who's only means of transport is ONE car. That falls along into one of D & L's major pitfalls: Communication. I was having my car in for minor repairs, parts replacement, and needed to know when I could pick it up. Sean, the Manager, a nice guy all around who knows his stuff and is good with dealing with the customers, told me the day after tomorrow. 2 days? Not bad considering all the bays in the shop had cars in them. I wondered how it would be so soon with all the work they had but I don't work there; I just needed their help. By the second day Sean calls me and tells me its going to be another day. I say sure, because I appreciated the call and I really didn't expect such a quick turnaround despite what he said, I marked up the given time estimate to shop enthusiasm. NOW here's where the problem comes in: the day of, Sean calls again and says he needs ANOTHER DAY. Now I'm a little perturbed because I know, after talking to a few like-minded shade-tree mechanics, the type of repairs to the car don't take that long. And I'm figuring the shop is stretching thin the amiability of the customer. And I'm, at this point, pretty sure Sean has overbooked his mechanics. So finally the day of (again) comes around and I'm waiting on a call when I can come pick up my car. It doesn't come. When lunch rolls around I CALL the shop and let Sean know through the voice mail to let me know what's going on. If I can't come and get the car because it's not ready then let me know so I can make arrangements for another ride. He doesn't return the call. That pissed me off. But at this point what can you do but wait? Finally after an extra three days wait, I get the call to come get the car. I was (ofcourse) amiable and accepted the work done. This was another mistake because, had I known what to look for, I would have noticed the mechanics hadn't put the grommets (plastic fasteners that hold down the cover for the radiator) back on the car. There was only one out of four. And for a week I was wondering where in the hell that rattling sound was coming from. So, I got a car back with an extra rattle in it that did not exist before. Does anyone else know HOW annoying it is to have a new noise in your car where it didn't exist BEFORE you took it TO THE REPAIR SHOP?!? So: I didn't get the car back when the shop said it would be done; I didn't get a call back after contacting them for an update; it didn't come back with all it's parts; the shop put a new rattle in the car without telling me; and now with those demerits I have to question if the work was done or done completely. The only thing that was consistent about the service was me. I didn't get pissy with Sean, I paid my bill in full, and I didn't call them back to complain about the missing grommets. Let's face it, would you go back after that experience? Turning away business, especially in today's economy, is never a good idea. But having some perspective and knowing your shop's limitations is an essential (as you can see) to avoiding bad customer relations. My relative's car's problem was the check engine light. It stayed off after we took it to the shop, for about three months then it was back again. I took my car in for brakes the first time just to get a feel for the shop; they did ok. But that is elementary (for mechanics) and could have been done anywhere. When I took it for a tune up, that's when the "date" went south. Give' em a try if you want. Service is hit or miss. Just make sure you're ready to leave the car there. I won't be returning anytime soon. read more
