Walked in with no reservations, so wasn't expecting much (especially during all the covid limitations) but we were able to sit at the bar and have dinner. The bartender was super personable and quick and efficient, gleaning from the conversation I believe he is the owner . My wife and I had practically the same meal prime rib, salad and twice baked potato. My rim was a bigger cut and rare compared to her cut and medium. The meat was fantastic and tender, unfortunately for all the good things I do have to say the potato was terrible. It was a baked potato with a glob of processed melted cheese on top, not much flavor and about room temperature. We had cheesecake for dessert, which was very good. We just ordered takeout from here for our anniversary. Unfortunately having no sitter we couldn't dine inside. We both ordered the surf & turf, soup and shrimp scampi for my daughter. I have be brutally honest that both our steaks were ordered medium and they came as rare they could be. They were so rare that I had to pan fry both of them for 2 min each side to get them to medium. I made my parents a reservation to eat here tonight for their anniversary, it was their first time at Nicks. When they came home unfortunately, they did not have the best things to say. My mom ordered the Porter House that she said was awful (she barely ate any), however her salad was good. My dad had a different experience with his NY strip which was cooked well and tasted great, but was a little salty. He also said his caesar salad was good. Myself and 13 other family members went to Nick's on March 11 for dinner. Our reservation was at 7:00. We sat about 7:15 as we were waiting for everyone to get there. After ordering drinks at the table the server gave us the specials. We ordered apps first. The French onion soup was very salty, bit no one complained. We then ordered dinner. A few of us wanted Prime Rib. They were out of it. One person wanted the Cowboy steak. They were out of it. How do you run out of these items on a Saturday night knowing you have a big party coming in. One person received her salad way later everyone else after telling the server that she did not get one. One person ordered the Snapper. When it came it was the whole fish. He was picking out bones in every bite. Told the waitress and all she said was I told you it was the whole snapper. Did not offer him something else in it's place. Needless to say he did not eat it. We never heard her say a whole snapper. The twice baked potatoes were not good at all. No one ate them. I called the following week and talked to a so called manager. He said " I was aware of your table as I was cooking that night". He never came out to talk with us about our issues and did nothing for me when I talked on the phone with him. The server seemed like she did not want to wait on us. The restaurant was not busy. Pretty terrible when a manager knows that there are issues at a table of 14 and doesn't come out to talk with us. Needless to say none of us will be going back and will not recommend this restaurant to anyone. read more

You can actually have a conversation! The front room has a bluish tint to the lighting that was a bit too cool for me. The wait staff was energetic. The wine list is above average. The salad was nice, plenty of leafy greens. The 12 oz. steak, while well seasoned, was too thin for a steak house offering. The twice baked potato gave the appearance of having been prepared too far in advance. We didn't order dessert, so nothing to comment on. Amazing first experience. Ambiance is great, waitress was very friendly, bread was unmatched. Warm and brought quickly to our table and the butter was smooth and creamy. We ordered the Italian Bruchetta as an appetizer and the worst part about it was the fact that they only brought three because I could have eaten about ten of them. I also had the apple martini and it was delicious. For the entree, I ordered the Lamb and believe me when I tell you this meat melted in my mouth. The balsamic that was served on the plate mixes delightfully with the meat and I finished every bite. I ordered the au gratin potato's and they were delicious and cheesy as well. What a cute place for a nice dinner! I came here with my mom tonight, on her recommendation. We got fun martini's and calamari to start. The calamari was OK... I think I'll try one of the other apps next time... but try the Delilah martini, I really liked it! The shrimp scampi was awesome. Big shrimp and tasty sauce. (Bring gum for after it's extremely garlicky!!) Somehow I missed stealing a bit of my mom's stuffed chicken, but she liked her meal! Each entree comes with salad and a potato, and the bread was hot and fresh. We walked out of there too stuffed for dessert, but it sounded great. Next time we'll save room. Made NYE reservarions on the same day. They squeezed us in. When we arrived we were welcomed by the owner and some great live piano music (more on this later). We were seated in the room closest to Main St. Love the atmosphere. The lighting was perfect ànd the piped in music in our room was just the right volume. Also love that the menus are electronically lit when opened. The service was very friendly and quick. We never had a long wait. I had the stuffed pork chop and a wedge salad. My wife had the prime rib. Both delicious. They have recently changed their policy to include the side dish with the entree price which makes the pricing more reasonable. Spent about 100 with a bottle of wine and tip. Retired to the bar after dinner. Again great atmosphere _ exactly what i'd like to see a martini bar be. The bartender was super and made some excellent Moscow Mules. The piano was still jamming with the awesome blues from Hanna PK. Highly recommend you check out is talented performer. All in all a great NYE for us. We haven't made Nick's a regular on our dining circuit because of the perception that it is very pricey. While true you'll pay more than most places in town but with the recent pricing policy change and the quality it is well worth it. Went to Nick's Chophouse on the recommendation of a few friends. Started off with a Painkiller Martini...multiple juice infused martini...very fruity and flavorful. Ordered seafood bisque for an app. Was enjoying it until I was midway through a spoonful and felt something crunch. I spit out a piece of hard plastic that resembled a fish hook. The waitress was right there when this happened and did try to offer a new bowl but I soldiered through as I am not one to make waves. Main course came out and the prime rib was stone cold.....like I could chill a drink with it cold. The waitress took the prime rib back and brought out a fresh piece that was up to temp. When I got the bill I had to remind the waitress about the seafood bisque and was hoping that some sort of remedy for having to wait for the prime rib to come back out....I wasn't looking to have the meal completely comped but an offer of a drink or a dessert sure would have been appreciated. The owner/manager came over begrudgingly after being asked by the waitress to come over. He was very hostile and was not real receptive to listening to my complaint and pretty much dismissed my complaint with the exception of the soup. If you wanted to be treated like your business isn't appreciated visit Nick's Chophouse......I'm very disappointed that I was made to feel that my business was not appreciated and the owner could have seemed to care less....poor customer service like that won't garner you much repeat business. read more

Had dinner there last night. I've been there when it was the Mexican restaurant and the physical changes were great. Expanded bar area with great lighting and much more. Would I go back, yes. Here's why: -The atmosphere was fantastic -The staff was super friendly and helpful and accommodating -All the food was delicious. My fiancés steak wasn't actually cooked right but she feels bad sending it back. She asked for it medium well and it came out fairly rare. But she said it was so good she could eat it anyway. Baked potato was good but I'd wished for mashed. And steamed broccoli was great. -the restaurant was not that busy but we still got seated next to a window. I was disappointed thinking I would be cold but I couldn't even tell. Comfortable environment. I hope they will change: -hire someone to expand your wine list. Half the red wine was California Cab. Find Simone at Apogee in Roc, I'm sure she could help. -as nice of a place as it was with the price tags that it does, you shouldn't have paper on the table. It's not Texas Road House. Buy some extra table cloths and change them if they need. -but being a steak house I feel the options for steak could be improved, eat dinner at Char in Roc and you'll see nice options. This wasn't exactly reportable but something that could have been handled differently... Long story short they forgot to bring our salads, ok no big deal. Asked us if we would still like them even though the steaks were out or if there was anything else they could do. I said not now, knowing I'd be looking at the dessert menus later. Ordered dessert and coffee, it would have been nice if maybe the $4 coffee was comped because of the salad. Pay a little more attention and that kinda little thing takes it from a good meal to a good meal with great customer service. Not real impressed. We called ahead of time to make a reservation for 4 and were told that they don't take reservations. When we walked in, they asked if we had a reservation....ummmm. Anyway, decided to let that slide as we were seated immediately. Drink orders were taken fairly quickly, but it took about another 10-15 minutes before we placed our dinner orders. Bread came out about 5 minutes after ordering - 4 dinner rolls. We hadn't even finished bread yet, when someone came and asked if we were done and if she could take our bread plates. Salads came, and same thing. Barely finished, some still eating and they were hovering to grab dishes off of the table. Was so awkward! Main courses didn't come for almost an hour. I got the steakhouse chicken and the au gratin potatoes. The potatoes were like a cheesy, salty, over cooked casserole that has sat out on the counter all day. They were room temperature at best. I sent them back. My chicken was nothing special. A grilled chicken breast with some lemon garlic salt on it. And cooked a little too much, so it was a bit dry. Everyone else at the table got prime rib and fries. The prime rib was way too garlicky and the fries are a shoestring potato. Nothing special. (My father-in-law also told me after we left that his prime rib was refrigerator cold, but didn't want to complain during dinner.) We voiced our concerns to the waitress who seemed to not really care. And again, with the hovering! If you stopped eating for one second or put down your fork, a girl would immediately show up and ask if you were done or if you needed a box! It was so creepy!!! All I could think of was the butler who appears out of nowhere in the film "Mr. Deeds"! Simmer down! If you want to flip tables that fast, maybe the food should come out quicker! All in all, we were not impressed and won't be going back. Overpriced, ordinary food with mediocre service. There are much better places in Canandaigua to get a good meal and a good drink. read more

First time I was in since it was a steak house before it was Mexican. The bar was great, love the atmosphere. I would stop in for a drink, that being said, I would not eat there again. I had a ribeye steak or more accurately that's what I ordered. I was served a strip steak, any steak eater knows the difference in texture there is nothing to argue about. With that I had potatoes al Groton or should I say that's what I ordered, haven't eaten all over the country I'm not sure where the inspiration for these came. The salad was pretty but unmemorable from there. I did have a good desert but at that point the steak and potato had ruined it for me. The owner took the potato off the bill without me asking, but I would much rather had what I ordered and even if that wasn't great I would have given them another shot. I feel serving me a strip steak instead of the ribeye was no different than theft and if it was unintentional then the chef is a moron. read more

Went to Nicks for new years eve with reservations for 5 at 7:45. We were seated quickly at table too small for five. Everyone ordered shrimp cocktail apps. and surf and turf, our orders were in before 8:00. The apps. did not arrive until a little after 8:30 and our waitress said they were having a problem getting the shrimp out. Everyone was pleased with the taste of the shrimp. The salads were smallish but good. We had a long wait for the entrees' and none of them were hot. One was sent back for reheating. It arrived back 15 minutes latter still cold. We were comped for one steak that was not eaten due to being cold. We over herd at tables being seated after us that shrimp and lobster tails were not longer available. I think the food would have been good if it arrived hot. Perhaps the restaurant over extended itself. Not sure if I would give them another try. read more

Well, I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but I finally went back to Nick's after almost 2 years. Not sure why it took us this long, considering how good it was the first time. So, how was it this time? Even better than before. I ordered a chicken dish and my friend ordered blackened shrimp. Both dishes were excellent. This place is not perfect, but it's very good and the owner is always helping out to try and make sure everyone has a good experience. We ate at the SKYDECK on the roof of Nick's. We started with the chips and salsa which tasted like store bought. Also had the mahi bites which tasted good but the portion was very small. For dinner we had the tacos. I had the pork and my wife had the chicken. These tasted just like you would make at home. There was no special taste or seasoning. The food was all good but I wouldn't say it was restaurant quality. Our bill (including 2 sodas) was $60 so we didn't feel like it was a good value. What you are paying for is the atmosphere which was awesome! Would highly recommend for that aspect. read more

I ordered the stuffed pork chop, it was suppose to be stuffed with sausage. After eating a portion of it there was no sausage. The waitress took it back to the chef to confirm he had forgotten to put the sausage in the pork chop. She never brought my meal back to me. Two other guests had problems with their meal as well; it was not prepared as ordered. The owner who was there did not even have the decency to come over to apologize or make it right. Just had chicken wings on the Sky Deck, $19 for 10 wings along with fries and celery. The wings were old, overdone and not sauced. Tasted like they had been sitting around awhile. Complained and the manager took $5 off which was ridiculous. Complained again and $11 was taken off. The entire wing order should have been taken off. Don't get me wrong the scenery is great but the food sucks and is overpriced. The actual restaurant is great and I have eaten there many times but that menu is not available on the Sky Deck. We go out to dinner at a minimum of 3x per week so we are experienced with places that want to turn tables. When we are in a hurry we know where to go. The bill came and nothing was removed even though the complaining patrons did not eat their food. We asked for the manager and he arrived after a wait. The OWNER arrived after our a long wait, and stated "if all complaints were accounted for we would not make any money." We were very confused. Our friend who got the chicken asked if given the fact she did not eat her meal if the chicken could be taken off, he responded "well you enjoyed the bread and salad didn't you?." The owner argued with us after a while, and did not seem concerned with our issues with his food. We informed him we worked in the industry and that this was not standard procedure. We had a bill of over $900, and he was not concerned at all with the issues presented. Basically, if you prefer a well cooked dinner where the staff will accommodate your simple requests, avoid this establishment. It would have been fine if there had been several stalls WITH doors, but there was one toilet with nothing! Very disconcerting for a woman!
