LOL I'm giving a low rating because @Lora J and friends were not kicked out sooner! (See her review. I was at that show last night.) They were disruptive from the start and warned by multiple comedians. It ruined the vibe for everyone. Nicks needs to do better at managing the disrupters but also it was cold like the heat was broken, and it's dank and dirty in there. Won't be going back. Had come out to see some favorite comedians but the setting and management were just not good. read more

Hi Everyone. So I went with a couple of friends. My friend asked where the bathroom was & I was telling her. The comedian on stage stopped and yelled at us for talking when I was just trying to tell her where the bathroom was so then I decided to boycott and just looked at my phone and and then he yelled some more a thrown out for just scrolling on our phone saying that we were being loud and obnoxious when we weren't even speaking so never going back ever. It was absolutely disgusting the way we were treated. read more

Freezing. No heat. Made it impossible to enjoy the show. Some of the comedians had some decent material but its so cold you can not get comfortable so basic survival instincts prevent the crowd from laughing. Its a no go until they turn the heat on. read more

Omg I went here by accident , long story short. They are so funny . I had the best time . Usually I find most comics except myself corny , but not here . I haven't seen the show yet but upon entry we were told we had to scan our ID's. We were told it was state law! I googled this and that's a complete lie. Business are allowed to but there is zero legal requirement. We are both old enough for Medicare. Only one of us had ID and we were let in so clearly not a law or they just broke the law. Your first interaction is most likely with security guard "Sammy". I will say he is charming but strange as he directs you to your seat when it is advertised as general admission. The drink selection was small which is fine. Today's host was okay but needed to work on her mic technique as she often breathed into the mic. They should invest in a sound guy as the sound was pretty bad and crackling. Comedians were overall funny but the headliners was amazing. Comedy was great but the venue itself make it lose a star. I felt Jay Whittaker made racist jokes, he also spoke directly to two white audience members disrespectfully which was in stark contrast to how he built up a man of color in the audience, it was uncomfortably blatant. Jay's jokes that where racial in content perpetuates hate amongst race's and promotes division amongst the races. The venue was good. read more

One of the worst disappointments I have ever had with an event in Boston. We purchased tickets to the Dec 31 6pm show. My teenaged son and I were looking forward to some good laughs on this holiday night. When we arrived an hour early to get good seats, we were disappointed to find out that there was no 6pm show scheduled but rather just a 9pm show. The owner/manager said that everything had changed, yet we only bought the tickets several days before (on the 28th), and had also received a reminder email on the 30th. So we had no clue before our arrival of any changes. when we said we could not make the later time he just shrugged his shoulders! I have attended many events in my life in Boston's theatre district, but never was as disappointed as I was tonight. Buyer beware at Nick's Comedy Stop. read more

Surprised by how many comedians were performing, lost count after 6. Most were decent but were fighting against two things: 1. The foul smell of vomit which did not dissipate through the entire performance. This became part of the act for the latter performers which ending up being good fodder for their acts, some were hilarious. 2. The place was freezing. Most people left their winter coats on the whole time. I kept mine wrapped around my legs and my scarf on. All in all, it was an ok show, I would give it another try but not the best (or even close to) comedy show I've seen. This past Saturday night I enjoyed some great laughs' at Nick's Comedy Stop in Boston. Making reservations wasn't easy to do and it took 4 calls/voice mails before getting a call back. The night got off to a great start however when I scored a perfect parking spot right around the corner from the venue that cost 1$. Combined with the Groupon discount tickets the night looked promising. The interior is small and intimate and there are bars on either side of the seating area. The seats were all folding chairs and I got the impression that after the show it doubled as night club. That would explain the awning over the door having a different name on it. When I made the reservations we were told that the doors opened at 7:45 and it was best to get there early to get a good seat. Sure enough we had our pick of seats and selected two seats on the isle 4 rows from the front dead center. Just far enough back to stay clear of any audience participation but close enough to really enjoy. I was glad to have picked my seats because the columns really made it tough for those seats on the side. The seats were packed tightly together on the main floor with not a whole lot of space for an aisle. Thankfully I was on the aisle and had a pretty small person next to me. As a result I didn't feel too cramped for space. I don't think I would have liked being sandwiched in the middle. A very friendly waitress took our drink order and served us quickly. The place filled up very quickly and by 8:00 it seemed to be near capacity. We had bought tickets for advertised headliner Mike Whitman but after a few intro comics we got to Mike. He wasn't up there very long before they were introducing the headliner as Lisa Landry. I am glad that she was the headliner as the previous few comics were not that funny. They all seemed to tell the same joke with a small variation and they all took to the easy topic of gay marriage. Sadly none of the jokes were that funny. The headliner, Lisa Landry on the other hand was a riot. She didn't pick any one thing to focus her entire routine on and kept the audience involved. Most of her jokes focused on her own experiences and I have always said if you can't make fun of yourself you shouldn't make fun of others. She did both like a true professional and involved the audience in a tasteful but raunchy way. Her mix of redneck and white trash humor kept me on the edge of my seat and in near tears from laughing so hard. I was still laughing at the end until I got the check. The drinks prices sober you right up and leave you with a bad taste in your mouth. 7$ for a corona and 10$ for a watered mixed down drink. The fact that they charge such ridiculous prices is a joke. I would recommend the Comic Lisa Landry but I would advise you to skip the drinks at the club. read more

This place has potential but needs some work. It looks like it used to be a dance club. Lots of unused open space and folding chairs set up in front of a stage. Not bad, but I feel like there should be some cocktail tables. When you order a drink you just have to hold it the whole time, sitting in close quarters in your folding chair. Enter mad usher... there was this hyper man running around with a flashlight seating people. He was not friendly. I think he was actually trying to be intimidating like a bouncer would be. Due to the air conditioning setting seemingly stuck on "Arctic Armageddon" my husband was trying to ask the man if we could please Not Be seated under a vent. The man would not even let my husband finish asking the question before he starting pointing in his face saying something we could not hear/understand. He was going to seat us where he wanted apparently. I just backed away and said I wasn't ready to sit and we stood in the back by the bar. At least there was a ledge there you could put your drink on. We proceeded to watch this usher get in a number of other squabbles with other customers. He yelled at one guy to "settle down now", who was just laughing loudly. The comedian heard it and nervously tried to make a joke out of it. Then the usher tripped and the whole room busted out in laughter. And THAT was funner than the first three comedians combined. Nice older woman serving drinks, but I felt bad in a way, she seems too old and sweet for this atmosphere. I wouldn't want my grandma hanging around a place like this. In then end, we left before the headliner, it was just too damn cold. Another freezing lady in a dress had come to the back to escape the wind tunnel with us. She was about to leave too. I hope they pull this place together a bit. If you go... bring a space heater and a folding table. And don't talk to the usher. Should be a good time!! read more

After some confusion as to whether we were in the right place (it's inside a section of a nightclub with a different name; only a small sign identifies the building as housing Nick's Comedy Stop also), we made our way up a back staircase to the comedy show. As another reviewer mentioned, it was FREEZING - definitely bring a sweater. The comedians (there were at least 4, I think) had varied styles, which is to be expected, but every single one of their acts was completely vulgar and profane. That's fine, it was a Saturday night show, but that kind of comedy is cheap and unimaginative, and comedians who need to rely on vulgar sex jokes for 80% of their content are a dime a dozen. Drink prices were outrageous. I've lived here long enough to be used to downtown drink prices, but I actually went back up to the bar to confirm I had been charged correctly after I looked at the total on my credit card receipt. Granted admission was cheap with a groupon so that's how they make money, but beware if you plan to drink a lot! read more

Great night out ... the venue is fairly small so all seats are good! The comedians were generally good and the headliner was really funny! I love the low key vibe of the place - this is our 2nd time there post the Covid shutdowns and I am sure we'll be back again soon. Nick's Comedy Stop! Overall, a good place to see comedy. Not sure why there isn't a Nick's sign on the front to let you know where it is... only the name of the dance club. We were greeted by a nice person and all the staff were kind and helpful. Sister and I were seated and then a friend joined us, so the person seated us moved us to a new place where we could all sit together. The waitress, an older lady, was very kind and didn't guide us for only ordering seltzer. The comedians were good, the best being Mary Kennedy, in from LA. I would recommend her anytime you see her locally! read more

I had bought tickets online and had my card charged. I tried to call when no tickets were delivered but there was no there, even an hour earlier to resolve this problem. Showed up anyway and was told that they are sold out and transaction didn't come through. Had to dispute with bank to get money back. Awful place! Totally irresponsible! Very interesting set-up, almost like the club has been frozen in time since the mid 80s with its decor and furniture. Had a great time, ironically the funniest bit all night was when one of the comics ripped on the condition of the club. If you show up, tell Nick I said hey and that he ought to have a guy pick up those spare milk crates. read more

Highlights of the night (IE funnier than the comedians): 1. My friends brother spilling a drink on the ground (and me). Now THAT was funny - especially because I'm usually the spiller, not the spillee 2. Two groups of dudes almost getting into a "bar" fight. Me running away as fast I can, while stating that I refused to die as a result of a fight in fucking Nick's Comedy Stop. HAHA....THAT was entertaining 3. My shock from their beer prices. They are so astronomical it HAS to be a joke. Please learn how to cut a proper lime for my Corona...again, funny. The funniest thing about Nick's isn't the comedians. It's not their first Yelp review that states "If your looking for delicious food and a great laugh, stop by Nick's Comedy Stop." Nope...those come close. Sometimes you just gotta choose. French fries or mashed potatoes. Boxers or briefs. Comedy club or dance club. Point is you can't do both. The Comedy Stop fails miserably by trying to do the impossible. It attempts to make people laugh in the least amenable of venues. The audience's view to the comics on stage is obscured by enormous jagged columns. The working bar smack dab in the middle of the place doesn't help. People congregate and completely ignore the show. Comics deserve the audience's attention. It helps them focus and be funny--the whole reason you go to a comedy club. With all the distractions, it's no wonder the line-up was lousy. Maybe the dance club is better, but if you're going to get some laughs, spare yourself the trouble. read more

Alright, so this place is a liiiittle sloppy. The seating arrangement, besides being an enormous fire hazard, is downright irritating. If you don't get there early, someone you don't know WILL be sitting on your lap. Maybe you're into that sort of thing, but not me, and not on a Saturday night in a comedy club. The opening comics were awesome, but Lindsey C. & I were pretty disappointed with the headliner. But no worries, we stuck it out -- mostly because we would have been in for the fondling of a century had we tried to leave through the huddled masses. The waitress seems like she's all over the place, which is good if you want to get slizzerd. It seems like this is the pervasive theme at comedy clubs, so with 3 bars in this tiny place you're bound to be just as drunk as your companions. Alright, so the one saving grace of the headliner, Michael Petit, was the gigantic twatberry sitting front & center. I don't think that dude had ever laughed in his life and he sat there like a pompous prick the entire show, completely clueless to the fact that his unwillingness to play along with the comedian poking fun at him was costing me valuable seconds of my life. This prick's inability to take a joke became almost comical after some time, though, so Michael Petit was saved. Oh, yes, the guys at the door are quite sweet but the security dude is (crazy!!!) I guess I should preface this with I got free tickets to this club through Yelp Elite member Ravi for an Amateur comedy showcase. The club had many things going right for it. It was located near the T (about a block 1/2 from Boylston in the Theater District), it was small and comfortable with a couple of really comfy lounging seats. However, the rest of the area was filled with plastic chairs. I'm sure this is because this is normally a lounge or dance space so the fact that it can also be a comedy club is a plus, but I'm just glad I got the lounging area instead. The drinks were pretty expensive. I ended up racking a HUGE bill, which I sort of expected but if you don't have the cash to shell out for that kind of thing you might want to just drink before you arrive. I was also disappointed when our waitress told us there was a "full bar" but they didn't have makers mark, my most favorite whiskey and the beer selection was really, really limited. The clientel was a pretty mix of young twenties to mid thirties with some forty year olds sprinkled in. The bathroom overflowed and flooded while we were there, I swear every time I went in there, some other travesty had occurred. I don't know if it's always like that but man, it was pretty crazy at the end of the night. The bathroom looked like Alternate 1984. There were some really funny comedians (2) and then the remaining 4 were pretty lousy. I suppose you're going to find this at most amateur revues but we had a good time despite some of the acts. I went to Comedy Connection recently and the professional acts were outstanding--but the club digs were awful and uncomfortable so at least Nick's Comedy Stop was only half-bad. Regardless, I might go back here again with the right people, it wasn't really my scene so I feel a little guilty giving it two stars. I'd probably go back sometime if I had a friend who was a fan of comedy because I did feel comfortable there, I just wouldn't go back on my own. read more

Nick's constantly offers discount vouchers through groupon and all other deal sites. You should not be paying full price to go here and most of the talent they bring in is not worth the 20$ regular admission, especially when you can see top talent across the street starting at about 25-35$. With the deals offered I usually get 2 tickets for 15$ and find it as a cheaper and better alternative to the movies. You will laugh a lot more here than any movie will make you. Favorites and regulars at this club are Joe Wong and Tony V. They usually find good local comics to warm up as well. I find a lot of the opening acts to be quite good for openers (some are almost as funny as the headliners). Drinks are expensive but not mandatory, which is great considering how much you are paying to get in. I would avoid the couch seats which are usually given to the first people there. They are comfy at first until you face the stage, at which point you will have to strain your neck. I have to say security is pretty lax and I've had problems with rude guests once before which security did nothing about, even after I complained. I find it best to get there early and get a good seat and you won't have any problems. All in all we usually have a good time at Nick's and will be back in the future as long as tickets are under 10$. read more

In LA they have car washes. In Vegas they have drive-thru marriage chapels. In Boston we have comedy clubs. A veritable smorgasbord. And Nicks? It's sort of like the hermit crab of comedy clubs, taking over a regular club (Venu) before they open for the night. The room is a bit spare but, hey, it's comedy. The waitress is kind of intrusive when you're trying to listen and she bawls out "YOU WANT A DRINK". The comedians vary based on the night. What's the kicker? The drinks are really expensive. Even for a downtown club. Mind you, this isn't a cocktail place like Drink where they squeeze the lemons right in front of you and pour top shelf liquors. It's well drinks for top shelf prices, and I have to knock a star off for that. read more

Went on a Saturday night. Took place downstairs in Club Rumor. Tiny stage but full of tables and chairs - interesting set up. I liked it. Very open, which most comedy clubs don't seem to be. Had the time filler guy, an opener, and the main act. Filler guy was okay, opener was funny but not for the crowd (a little mean - which I like but didn't fly that night) and the main act was hilarious - and good for all crowds. The waitress was an older lady who was incredible - serving everyone really well. We quite enjoyed ourselves. My guess is it's hit or miss and we hit! Oh, and I used a groupon which had expired like 9 months before and they respected it as if it was brand new. And I tried to go like 6 months ago and the guy I emailed was super nice and didn't care that I kept missing when I said I'd go. Thumbs up! read more

Loved the opener lady, Jen or Jan something? Tried to look her up but couldn't find her. Her awkward act is great, well honed I think, and flexible. Whittaker is a good performer, and confident, but he should stick to his material - the ad-hoc crowd stuff was cringy and racist. read more

Being a sound engineer it was a little frustraiting that the comedians were tough to understand due to crappy eq, but it wasn't too bad. One quick tutorial could fix that. If you are looking to laugh your ass entirely off of your body, then Nick's is the place for you. My husband and I went there a couple of weeks ago with some friends and we had low expectations since it was a small place featuring local comedians but we were BLOWN away by the quality of the comedy and laugh-your-ass-off-ed-ness. We were in tears, holding our guts, rolling on the floor laughing. I'm not exagerating. The comedians were THAT funny. If you have the chance to go, you MUST. It's cheap, they validate parking, keep the drinks coming all night, and will not disappoint. read more

We purchased our tickets in Groupon and although Groupon does a poor job of stipulating that one must email or call Nick's in order to reserve their seats, we were able to be seated. Agree with most of the reviewers. The jokes are pretty vulgar . And the seating can be annoying with the pole and the multiple levels. But it is a fun place - it's a fairly long show and they featured enough people that you forget the bad jokes pretty quickly. DID NOT enjoy the super loud group near the bar. It takes away from a comedy show when you can't hear the comedian due to the side bar convos happening behind you. Don't know about the price - got a pretty good price with the groupon. read more

I bought a LivingSocial deal so that is how we ended up here. The comedy club shares the same space was Rumor (Venu) night club. So, it's definitely tiny. The seats were folding chairs and space was tight. The drinks were like everyone said pricey. And, it was a bit chilly in the room, too. The two main comics of the night were Dan Bougler and Jason Marcus (he wasn't even listed on their calendar). They were good enough to make the price of the cheap tickets worth it. I'd take advantage of the deals that you get through LivingSocial or Groupon. This way if you go there on an "off" night, you won't be too annoyed on the money you spent. read more

This place was pretty fun, It turns out that if you go here and refer people, they keep calling you and offering you 50 free tickets all the time. We've been once, but had to turn down a few times to go because of other things (They call you week of for the free tickets). It was pretty funny, we saw 3 comedians, one bad, one kind of good, and one really funny (maybe that was because we started out sober and then drank GIANT 32oz cans of bud and bud-light that they sell there and the comedians got funnier and funnier) All in all it was really fun and it's close by to a bunch of other stuff afterwards and it was FREE (I think you can get free tickets online too). The only downside is that the place kind of smelled a little bit inside. read more

Let's start with a comedians excluded review: The building is old, there are structural pillars all over so it's impossible to get a view of the stage from anywhere except an awkward view from the side. Beers are $7. Yes, bottled beers are $7. I got charged for an extra one, too, that the server was happy to take off once I brought it to her attention. I got the impression this happens a lot. There is also not enough seating for how many people they try to pack in there, people were sitting on the bar counter... I only went because I found a groupon for $7.50 tickets. I wouldn't go back even if it was free. The comedians weren't funny. They picked on the few people they could see (because of the pillars) in the awkward side seating area. It was actually pretty funny because all 3 comedians picked on the same 4 or 5 people. I assume those were the only ones that could see the stage, too. They changed the performers too. The website listed 3 and only 1 of the 3, the headliner, performed. I'll never be back unless I know the headliner is funny. The only reason I give this place one star is for the comedy. We walked in and the security was strange, said " I would like to see your backpack cuz I've been shot 3 times and I ain't getting shot tonight." Took me aback the first thing he said. Then directed is to a seat and we weren't happy with the seat so we got up to move and he came toward us very upset and was very irritated with us. We finally sat at a bar seat and he left us alone. Then my husband got up to use the restroom. He questioned him, asked "where are you from!?!" So he told he then he laughed out loud and made fun of us! then when my husband asked To use the restroom (really!?!), he then walked over to the bartender and made fun of him and bluntly as saying things about him. Not sure why he was so upset with us. It made the entire experience very weird and uncomfortable. Overall, this guy was very strange and made everything uncomfortable. read more

I've been here twice now as a "first date", thinking a comedy club would be PERFECT... Not so much. The first time I went, I didn't look at the prices before ordering my usual budweiser, MAN WAS THAT A MISTAKE. I'm from Boston and I was even shocked. I would've stuck to water had I known. And my date ordering some fancy cabernet didn't help my wallet either. The comedians weren't phenomenal, and my date wasn't pleased by the end of the night. For SOME reason, I decided to give it another try, hoping that I went on a bad night. It was ice water all night for me, and my date just happened to be on a diet too... SCORE. That saved me a hefty chunk of change. The night started alright but the comedy just wasn't up to par. I've been to high-school comedy shows that have made me laugh more. My date came back from the bathroom and said the toilet was over-flowing and that she was disgusted. Needless to say, I did not get a second date from either of these women. You would think a business in the heart of Boston would up their standards a little more. If you're looking to waste money, I'd definitely recommend this place... You're better off ordering comedy OnDemand! read more

Great for a relaxed evening out. The standup on Friday nights is hilarious and affordable. I enjoy going, sitting on the couches, and have a low-key experience and a good laugh. Also, the waitress who is typically serving our drinks is super sweet. The security guy/usher can be a bit much, but we just stay out of his way. I highly recommend checking it out. Also, that address is old. It's on Tremont now. read more
