I saw the review by the person with the SL560 and needed to post one. First, it's always possible a mechanic might not catch your problem OR that there might be multiple issues contributing to a problem. I have a 96 S500 coupe (before it was called the CL500). I had a stalling issue where it would suddenly stall and then not start up again for hours, if at all. I brought it to the dealer, the dealer recommended about 15K in parts to randomly replace that might fix it. I didn't go for that of course. I brought it to an indy shop that's no longer around and they did days of testing and couldn't figure out what the problem was. Basically I then used it for 2 years, only driving in the summer because the stalling issue didn't happen. I think I spotted Nick on Yelp just because I was curious about giving it another shot and figured I'd ask him if he was up to diagnosing it. He did and I was shocked to get a call in a couple of days that it was ready to pick up. Honestly, I had the dealer prior to their 15K estimate to do diagnose it and they told me the same thing ... but then they couldn't start it when I went to pick it up. I picked it up and I was a pretty surprised, it was running better but I still figured that it would soon stall out and I'd have it back to Nick. Nick charged me for the very reasonably priced Mercedes diagnostic which included some re-learning for some of the computers plus $25 for the part. The years of problems were down to the fuel pump relay, somehow many sincere mechanics had missed that the relay was only working intermittently. Nick was honest, charged a very fair price, he was diligent in the diagnostic, and checked/reset a bunch of things while he had the Mercedes Diagnostic system connected. Since then, I've been happy to recommend Nick's shop for other Mercedes owners. Thanks Nick! P.S. with a car like this, and for the SL560 folks, it's a good thing if you can replace some of the simpler stuff yourself. In trying to chase down the problem myself, I replaced the air-intake, the throttle body, all the little hoses, various sensors. All this seemed to help the car run better/smoother but didn't fix the stalling problem until Nick got to it. BTW, all those little rubber hoses looked like new but simple fell apart with a slight pull. read more

every time i bring my cars here they leave with something else wrong!!!! coincidence????? all i know is they go in for one issue and on the way home something else is wrong with the car! this has happened with both of my BMWs. I have been to Nick's for everything for my mini cooper over the last 3 years. Every time, he diagnosed the issues, gave me an honest response, and a reasonable suggestion. - Passenger seat sensor is broken: it is not worth the $1000 in parts and labor; wait and there may be a recall. - the car is shaking when I hit the breaks: You have to change the rotor, reasonably priced labor. I drop off in the morning. It is always ready by the evening. As of August 2021, they are temporarily closed. The automated message says they'll reopen 9/15/2021 in Malden. It is sad to see them go far away. But he is my trusted mechanic, so I guess I'll take the hike. read more

You will not find a better mechanic than Nick. Not only is he extremely competent, but he's also a really nice guy. He will never cheat you -- ever. If it doesn't need to be repaired, Nick will not repair it. I used to go to him when he worked at a garage in Cambridge. I got lazy, and when my car had radiator problems, I took it to a different mechanic, closer to home. Big mistake! A thousand dollars later and I was still without my car. This went on for three weeks while this other mechanic tried to solve the problem. I'd pick it up and have to bring it back the next day. What a nightmare. Ultimately, I just brought it to Nick, who immediately solved the problem. I cheated on Nick, and I paid. It won't happen again. It is truly with regret that we are writing this review. Nick is personable, highly likable and always appeared to be helpful and interested in taking care of us. We had been using Nick extensively for the care of our Mercedes 560sl and were essentially happy with his work. He did front end work and brake work - expensive but decent. In 2016 he did a nearly $8000 valve job for us, after which bafflingly, our car would exhibit a violent jerk each time, shortly after starting from a full stop. Back to Nick with the car. Diagnosis? A failed differential. Some $1500 later we're rolling again -- with the jerk still occurring as before. Nick told us our next act of recourse would be a transmission rebuild, something we weren't eager to do given what we'd spent to date at Nick's shop. So we drove our car with the disruptive jerk for two years, waiting for the failure of the transmission that would force us to do the transmission job. Last year we left Cambridge and moved to the Cape an found a shop here with European car experience. Their diagnosis? A vacuum hose leak, which was fixed for under $100. Result, smooth, predictable starts, the way you'd expect from a classic Mercedes. Not the slightest hint of any disruptive behavior. This shook our faith in Nick. Is it credible that an experienced Mercedes mechanic would so utterly fail to consider the simple obvious stuff before he replaced the differential and then prescribed a $7500 transmission rebuild? Or, even worse, did he know and want to do that costly rebuild as a revenue builder for himself? Either way, the implications were disturbing to us and were sufficient to damage fifteen years of built-up trust and faith in Nick. As previously stated, we regret writing this, but having thought about the matter, we felt that disclosure to other consumers was the correct thing to do. read more

I brought my 2016 BMW X5 on 6/13/2019 to get an oil change this dude is gonna put non synthetic oil in my car change my Transmission fluid with out my knowledge. Now my car is ruin it doesn't want to start or run brought it to the dealer and they said there is regular oil in my car that's doesn't go wit the car and my transmission is slipping. Nick has serviced my cars for over a decade now, both Mercedes (a variety of them) and Volvos. He knows theH German and European cars inside out. Has always been very fair on his prices and labor for me. He truly cares about his customers and develops a great relationship with most of them that come from more than just Cambridge. He formerly managed the service dept. for a large foreign car dealership north of Boston. He is your best alternative to the dealer and much more reasonable on the pricing without the huge overhead of a dealer. Other mechanics have even come to him for diagnostics issues for some of their clients. And his new location is just a 1/2 block over the Cambridge line in Somerville. His last shop was only a few blocks from me, so I'm glad he didn't move much farther at his new shop. What more could I ask for!
