I dropped 4 pairs of my shoes off in early June. Waited weeks to check back but kept getting brushed off that they'd be ready the following week, then the following and so forth. Now, it seems like the shop hasn't opened up for a couple weeks. I call daily to no answer and no VM and have stopped by to the same closed sign indicating return at 9:15. I was a raving fan until the last few times I dropped off shoes. Took over a month to get a boot stitched and it looks rushed and unprofessional. The woman up front saw the look on my face, laughed and says "well maybe if you walk fast no one will see it." I wish I would've been told ahead of time that this is what I'm to expect. Asked to put rings in lace holes, first two rows. First time only did the top row...took 2 weeks. When I went to pick up I asked to do the second set of holes, a month later the shoe is ready...all lace holes are done. Again the lady says well he only charged you $12 for it. Avoid at all cost! If there was a choice not to give any star then I would. I have a pair of high quality Asolo hiking boots that needed new soles. So back in November I took them in to get resoled, because REI recommended them (I have no problem with REI, but they now know not to recommend Nick's). The man (who I'm assuming is Nick) said no problem. So a couple weeks later I picked them up and they seemed fine. Last month I used them for the first time and stepped in mud and the sole on the left boot got sucked off. Well I took them in today to get fixed. The lady at the front immediately got defensive and said, "that's what happens when you glue rubber to rubber"- no apology, no trying to say they'd take care of it. Just excuses. Well because she gave me attitude I then said that I'd like my money back. This made her angry and she went to go get the guy. He came up pissed off making excuses and said, "fine just give him his money back". And then stormed away cursing. The lady then took my boots and threw them on the ground behind her and gave me my money back. I stood there waiting for her to give me my boots and she said something like, "I'm waiting for you to leave now". I told her I'd like my boots back because they cost almost $400. She said, "well he said to keep them". I said, "no I need my boots back because they are mine... of course you can keep the soles if you want." So she went back to the guy cussing under her breath. She came back slammed the boots on the counter and just stared at me. I said thank you have a good day. And she said, "well I will but I'm sure you won't." So I said, "well if you did it right the first time I wouldn't have had to come back." HER LAST WORDS TO ME AS I TURNED TO LEAVE were, "just shut up and go away." The whole situation still baffles me because it didn't need to go that way at all! I have no idea why they got so defensive and angry. I understand they were probably embarrassed that they didn't do the job correctly, but they didn't own their mistake. If he knew the boots might do that because he didn't have the right epoxy, then why did he attempt to repair them in the first place? I never got an apology. Nice People however, they use inferior adhesives, glues products! Took a pair of rubber sole shoes to be repaired. Wore them two times, and they started to come apart. Never have I in my 40 years of going to a repair shop, have experienced anything like that. When I confronted the repair guy about it, he became insulted and indignant, that I questioned his workmanship, and his adhesive materials that he was using, which he stated he was using contact cement. I explained to him that, if he is using contact cement, it was not strong enough to hold and bind the sole together to the shoe. I questioned him as to why wasn't he not using the industry standard adhesive? He became indignant, and try to insult me, that I didn't know what I was talking about, and that he's been in business for 40 years. I told him that I have been coming to shoe repair shops for 40 years, and I have not once had any of my shoes come apart after wearing them twice. In fact, I have never experienced any of the sort, of my repaired shoes coming apart period. And never have I seen anybody use contact cement, to hold their repairs together. I bother to say, you don't argue with your customers, and if you are to old to learn things, then you are too old to keep customers, you deserve to lose them! Was in town briefly and needed a quick repair to some webbing that I have on some Salomon Snowblades. The clips were broken on the leash and I needed someone to do heavy duty stitching to replace with new ones that I had found properly. Disappointed. Not only with the attitude on the phone but also with the quality of the work. When shown an example of what I had done to my boots before, the owner scoffed and criticized the work done. However, when I got my boots back - they took about two weeks longer than originally quoted - the work was just as "shoddy" as the previous boot repair had been. I am not really certain I can still use the boots and may have to undo the work "Nick" did as it may be that they're better without it. Can't really recommend this guy. I'm sure there must be better out there. RJ's in Wylie did better work, was very friendly and aside from his brother's cancer death, was usually on time. THIS SHOULD BE ZERO STARS NOT EVEN ONE! I am so livid right now, beyond livid, that I would like to pretty much fill this review with nothing but explicit curse words. However, since I plan on posting this ALL OVER GODS GREEN INTERNET, I will keep it clean. But, imagine them there, and you will have a more realistic review. Do not use Nicks Shoe & Boot repair in Plano, at Independence and Parker. Not if you care about quality and service. Only use them if you want to be treated HORRIBLY and you want your shoes to come back in worse condition than when you dropped them off. Seriously, I have to say this is honestly one of the WORST service experiences I have had in my entire life. I'm kind of in shock over it. So, I had received a recommendation online for Nick's when posting about places to take my boots to get their side zippers replaced. They're not particularly cheap boots and the zippers were coming apart, so I heard replacing them was a viable and affordable option. So, I walked into Nick's and was a bit surprised at the gruff demeanor I witnessed when dealing with whom I perceive to be Nick. I was also flabbergasted when I was told it would be at least two weeks for the job to be done. But, I went ahead and left them there, since they were not going to be wearable much longer and I didn't want any further damage to happen. I figured hey, perhaps he's just busy or having a rough day. I'm an understanding person, after all. When it was about the time I was told that they would be ready (I hadn't received a call, even though I was told I would), I called to see if they were ready. No, they weren't, but they would be in another four days. I was going to be out of town on the supposed ready date, so I was just going to go get them when I got back. So I go 3 days after they are supposedly going to be ready... Not ready yet. No explanation, just not ready yet. About 10 days later, I go AGAIN, and guess what.. Still not ready. In fact, Nick tells me "I just haven't gotten to them yet". At that point I SHOULD have just taken my boots and gone elsewhere, but I am very busy and I just didn't have time to try and find another place. After the second time, I was pretty frustrated, so my husband goes a week later to supposedly pick them up after I was once again given a FALSE ready date, and guess what... STILL NOT READY!! He then tells my husband some story on how he's had all these problems finding zippers (they're not anything out of the ordinary, just knee high lace up boots with side zippers) and this and that. So, he tells my husband they will be ready the next day and that he will call me. The next day is finally coming to a close, I haven't received a call so my husband calls again and he's like "Oh yeah, they're ready. I told you they'd be ready, did you not believe me?" Hahahaha. Excuse me while I laugh. Of course we didn't believe you, you said three times before that they'd be ready and THEY WEREN'T READY. What reason SHOULD we believe a word that comes out of your lying mouth? So, again, like I said, I am so busy that I haven't had time to go get them for a week since they've been ready. I go today to finally pick them up. Guess what? Oh, no, they are indeed ready. BUT THEY LOOK LIKE CRAP. They seriously look worse than when I took them in. Oh, there are functioning zippers, but now the sides of the boots don't even LINE UP and the stitching is absolutely horrible and uneven. I probably could have done a better job on my home sewing machine. Not only do they look like crap but Nick treated me like utter crap. I have never been treated so badly by someone there to do me a service that I am PAYING FOR. I have been plenty nice to this jerk from the beginning. Yes, today I was a bit short because I was PISSED at how long this ridiculous repair has taken. I showed him the problems and he basically shrugged at me. I made a comment about how long it took and he snidely says to me "Yeah, well you couldn't find anyone else to do it, could you?" ARE YOU KIDDING ME? WHO SAYS THAT?? After I got out to my car I literally called my husband in TEARS over how badly my boots look and how BADLY HE TREATED ME. Seriously. I am flabbergasted and appalled. I did pay the bill, because I was worried he'd just try and keep my boots (which I wear pretty much every day, and have been missing badly), but the job is horrible. I pretty much consider the boots ruined. I plan on asking for money to buy a replacement pair and if they do not oblige I will be filing a report with the Better Business Bureau. AGAIN. A bit stressful working with Nick's. I had 8 pairs of women's dyeable shoes custom dyed here at nicks for my wedding. I am so very thankful that I do not procrastinate as had I done so I would have been EXTREMLY disappointed. Staff is very nice and helpful, however, dropped shoes off to be dyed at the end of May, after many calls and missed promises of timelines, I did not pick up the last pair of shoes until Sept 5... Each week I was told, next week and so on and so forth. There was a pair that was difficult to work with, however, the others were not and just took TOO long! Thankfully my wedding was in October so I did receive in time for the big day. I've been going here since I was 15 and always had good results, which is to be expected. They have repaired my coat zippers, leather coats, and heel replacements for boots. More recently, however, I took in some boots that had some damage and needed new soles + heels. I was a bit apprehensive at first because part of the boot was delicate and I wasn't sure if it could be repaired, or more aptly, if they could make the damage look less noticeable without having the entire area look funny. To complicate matters, I knew they were going to have to use a stain and my boots are a very unique color that is hard to replicate. I took a chance because I trust this shop and all I can say is WOW!!! My boots look almost as good as the newer model on the showroom floor at Cavender's and probably at least as good as when they were new. I am seriously impressed. It's hard to explain exactly what type of damage my boots have, but basically, there is a section where the boot's top layer is peeling. It's not leather that is peeling, but more of a top coat of color. Like I said, it's difficult to explain. Sole replaced and looks better than it did when new. Heel replaced and added a rubber top. Insole was repaired it seems. Deep scuff marks not noticeable and the color matched. Damage to the side of my boot wasn't even remotely noticeable and when they buffed the damage did not increase - I bring this up because I know for a fact that home buffing methods would have cause the peeling area to accelerate. Of course, the damage can't actually be repaired, so I wasn't expecting perfection on that spot, but since the boots are around $1200 to replace I was really hoping they could make the damage less noticeable (it's not noticeable until you get about 3" away) and not make the peeling worse. They delivered and exceeded all of my expectations!!! I don't know why or how the other reviewers had such a different experience than me, but I have no doubts about using this shop for my future needs. read more

The reviews on here must be from competitors, I would probably bet money on it since the folks there probably aren't very internet savvy and can dispute any of these comments. I took a pair of Lucchese 1883 boots in that I wore through the leather and heel on, probably should have gotten repaired earlier. They were pretty trashed. The gentleman at the shop where I was purchasing a new pair suggested I go to Nicks. The moment you walk in its like stepping back 60+ years. Small hidden shop, smells fantastic, like new leather everywhere. Very kind polite folks, and a nice old fashioned ticketing system. Told me to pick it up in 2-3 days. I was going out of town and wouldn't be able to get them till next week, but he said they'll be ready anyway. When I went to pick them up, I should have taken pictures. They looked brand new. The job was top rate, and was reasonable on the cost. They even polished up the rest of the boot and repaired some other nicks and scratches. I'm so glad I found this place, as it will save me a lot of $$ in just getting my boots repaired instead of replaced. I highly recommend them for your boot repairs. read more

While I'm very sorry that one person had a bad experience at Nick's, I'd personally recommend their services to everyone in the Metroplex. Here's why - My favorite pair of leather dress boots was in dire need of new soles - a complicated process because of the shape & multi-material footbed. I was apprehensive to have these boots re-soled, as I'd had a few bad experiences with other cobblers in the past, but I saw the positive review for Nick's & decided to give them a try. I'm glad that I checked Yelp, as not only do my shoes fit & feel exactly like they did before - a rarity when when re-soling takes place - but the quality of the work is beyond measure. The new sole / heel combo is rugged & durable, yet completely comfortable... and these boots now look better than they did new, some ten years ago. The price? Insanely reasonable, considering the cost of materials & all of the work that had to go into resurrecting these out of production shoes. Nick does not exist, but Jackie is a true craftsman & very pleasant to deal with. It took a week for the to order the replacement parts & complete the job - certainly a reasonable time frame - but I'd have happily waited two months or more to be reunited with my boots / such stellar results. If you want puppies and rainbows, you might want to look elsewhere... but if you are seeking high quality work from old school, straight forward folks that excel at their craft, I say give Nick's a try. They knew what I wanted & delivered better than expected results, all for a price that was less than half of competitor's quotes. Who can ask for anything more? read more

I hate seeing the bad reviews on Nick's. I just got the soles of my boots replaced by Nick's and the job was a 5/5. The price was reasonable and the shoes (which were old and a little beat up) came back looking nearly ready for a store shelf! They told me three days for the soles to be replaced and they were done right on time. The people at the counter were nice and not anything like the other reviews say. I read several of these "reviews" and I can only say that most of the negative Nellies are women that have unreasonable expectations. As the oldtimers might say, " can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear" a person cannot expect to bring in something that's been totally worn out and expect the result be something new. I'm a shoe horse, meaning that i love great construction and special quality leather or even better, exotic leathers and I have a collection of 18 pair, all of which are 15 to 30 years old with classic styling, lizard, alligator and some embossed to look like those skins. Nick is played by Jerry, the owner and he knows his stuff and I'm guessing that he would tell you that if you wait too long and wear shoes that are in distress in other areas will be wearing poorly in others, therefore i say that if you'll notice when excessive wear occurs, have that repaired and your shoes and purses will last a very long time. I have not replaced shoes in 20 years and they all look mostly new. Also, My gait is flawed and they wear on the heel quickly and some on the outside sole and on the toe tip. All of my shoes have hard "plates" in the wear locations to protect those wear spots. A couple of bucks saves $20 of repairs per pair per year. Hey you complaining old bats, go someplace else. I took two pairs of light weight loafers to him last week for new leather soles and heels. He said they would be ready in three days and he would call me. I tried calling several times and no one answered, so I drove down to check on them and he said they were ready. He placed them up on the counter and they now have thick 3/4" rubber 1/2 soles on them and weigh about three pounds per shoe. They look like Herman Munster shoes, or corrective shoes. When I told him they were suposed to be leather he argued with me and told me we had had a discussion last week about putting nylon soles on them and I gave the OK. I told him had we had such a discussion I would have insisted on leather or I would have never have left them with him because I can't wear rubber soles as they make my feet too hot. He said there was nothing he could do, so I took the shoes and walked out. I may as well have used the money I spent as toilet paper as I would've gotten more use out of it! read more

I stopped in to have a belt repaired. The owner showed me what I needed to make the repair. He said you can actually do this yourself for much less cost. He told me where to buy the parts and told me exactly what to ask for (Chicago screws). He said my total cost should be approximately $1.25 He still offered to do the work if I wanted. He said the cost for him to do it would be $6.00 His concern was my cost. I thanked him and headed to the hardware store that he directed me to. How many businesses will do this for you, Not Many. Any other leather work (boots, shoes, etc.) I need done. He will get my business. BTW, his instructions were right on and the belt was fixed for .90 cents. read more

I have only been to Nick's once . I was given many personal references who highly recommended Nick's Show Repair. They talked about the workmanship and price. I had a shoe repair to a shoe from a pair of 180$ shoes that I loved! I felt sure it could not be repaired but I went and asked to convince myself that throwing them away was the right call. So imagine how excited I was when I was told that they could be repaired and the repair would be less than 20$. I was told to come back in one week and I returned 9 days later as my schedule was hectic. I was so pleased to see the repair. The shoe was fixed perfectly and what's more you could not see the repair. I talked with two men in the store- a mid aged man and an older man. They were both very kind and they answered my questions. Great experience and I am thrilled to have my shoes back looking good as new. Oh- and the repair was under 8$. Love this place! read more

I dropped off 1 pair of boots to replace the zipper on each boot. They were worn out and my favorite boots. I took them to Nick's in February 2015. Quoted 2 weeks turn time.... came a few weeks to get them and still not fixed. Went back a couple more times before summer started and still not fixed. Every time, told that they were behind and I'm sorry. I decided to leave them up there because Nick promised he would get them done soon and summer was here, so no longer in a rush for them. Well, I come back after summer is over (today).... and 8 months later they still aren't fixed! I just got the boots and left.
