We came here for a lunch a while back. It was a good visit, not the best Tex Mex, but worth trying again. The Chips and Hot Sauce were great and we ate too many of these.......very salty. Nicky's is your typical Tex-Mex restaurant. The majority of the time we are happy with our food. Pros: Chips and salsa are consistently good. Chips are normally served warm, and sadly the salsa lacks any heat but it does has a very good flavor. They have some nice specials (i.e. 2 for 1 enchiladas every Monday and Tuesday) Happy hour drinks are from 4pm to 7pm for beer and margaritas. Not too expensive and food is fairly consistent in quality - good for the price but not great. Cons: Service is not the best Cleaniness could be greatly improved on. read more

And so we finally went back. Ordered the shrimp ajo on right side of menu (under seafood). The kitchen gave us the shrimp diablo on left side of menu. There is a difference, but the kitchen does not realize it. The diable is shrimp in a creamy chipolte sauce. The Mojo Ajo is shrimp on a bed of spanish rise with salad and guacomole. Quite a difference. I called and complained and the manager said the kitchen told him the only difference is they gave us sliced avacado instead of the quac. No they gave us the creamy crap and house dressing with tomato, onion and sliced avacado. We do NOT like the chipolte sauce, it is yuk. The manager said oh no they told me the only difference is the sliced avacado vs the guac. Wrong, the creamy crap makes a big difference. The kitchen does not know the menu nor do they care. We are not ever going back. The kitchen will just give you something and not what you wanted. They just do what they do and you can take it or lump it. I am very let down about this and we are not ever going back to Nickys again. They were my favorite Mexican restaurant for so very many years, but we are done. When you pay $21 for a plate you want what you ordered and not what they put together in the kitchen. The restaurant needs to hire new personnel for the kitchen because the ones in the back apparently cannot read what goes into a dish from the menu. Again, we are done. read more

Random stop for dinner while passing through town. Our expectations were fairly low for Mexican food in northern LA but this place wasn't bad. The service was very warm and attentive, no complaints there at all. Here's the report card: The excellent: service The good: beans The decent: chips cheese enchilada The ok: rice bistec ranchero salsa (tastes like tomato sauce w/ cumin...interesting anyway) The eh: Tamales... I should have ordered enchiladas. The beans were definitely the best part of the meal aside from the excellent service. They had the nice 'real meat fat' taste that makes them good. Prices weren't too bad but would have been a little high by Texas standards. I don't know how it compares to other Shreveport Mexican restaurants. Best margaritas in town!! Staff is so awesome and friendly. My girlfriend called and told them it was my birthday and when we arrived they sang happy birthday and I received a sombrero hat plus a huge free birthday shot of tequila. Old review: Love this restaurant and their staff. We go here very regularly!!! I need to learn one of the waiter's names because he has been there for years. Everything tastes so fresh. There are some other Mexican restaurants in the same area who have food dishes that taste very much like the stuff you microwave from the freezer section or seem like they don't care about preparing a good quality food dish. There have been a couple of new wait staff who just aren't on the ball, have strange personalities, and/or aren't that attentive. One time, I was boxing up my leftovers and the waiter came by and started to take my plate from me before I had even finished boxing up my food. He just lacks waiter etiquette. The other strange guy is a bit over-the-top with his personality yet he still doesn't really check on us if we need something (drink refill, mustard that wasn't served with the hamburger) Sigh... We just don't enjoy going anymore. The last time we went, I tried the shrimp quesadilla and it was soggy, the shrimp were not that flavorful and reminded me of boiled shrimp consistency, the restaurant was hot, our table was sticky as hell (my side and my husband's) and the same strange wait guy was there. This was the worst experience ever. We found hair in our chips. The food Wasn't that great and I guess the air was out because we all sweat while trying to eat. Prob won't be going back. This was a bad experience for us. Our drinks smelled and tasted like dirt. The waitress couldn't remember our order. After returning and asking what we ordered mine was still incorrect. I asked for the crispy tacos and instead got the puffy tacos with a teaspoon of meat in each one and enough lettuce to make 3 salads. I went shared and ate some of it and it tasted like it was a few days old. My wife's chicken was very dry and tasteless. The rice was also horrible. It was almost crunchy. So overall it wasn't great. Might be good on other days but wasn't that day. Won't be going back just from that experience. read more

My husband and I came here for dinner on a Friday night. We had never visited before. We knew from the moment we were sat side by side, due to being seated at a broken table, that we were in for a treat. The "salsa" tasted more like marinara sauce than anything resembling salsa. My husband ordered sweet tea. After his first Glass was taken for a refill and wasn't returned for 10 minutes we thought maybe there were no refills allowed. We finally got our queso and thankfully we filled up on it because that was the best part of the meal. My husband ordered crawfish nachos and was given crawfish enchiladas. Which was more expensive and we were charged for it. I ordered taquitos and I'm not even sure what I got. It looked like nachos but some of the chicken wasn't done and it was wrapped in a tortilla that practically exploded on one bite. We rarely saw our waiter as he was preoccupied with tables he thought would tip more. Overall the meal was expensive and very disappointing. We will not be returning and our recommendation is that you don't waste your money. read more

Today I spoke with James which is a supervisor at this location. My food was cold wrong and down right nasty. I ordered the lunch steak fajitas with rice and fries. I did ask if guacamole . came with it and I was told yes. When I received my food I had cold fries no rice no guacamole and cold tortillas. No set up ie pico sour cream nothing. All I had was some hard onions crunchy bell peppers and a 6 pieces of steak that was tough to eat. I called and spoke with James after explaining what my order was he told me that he was going to fix it. He asked me if I wanted a refund or another order . I told him that I didn't want my money back I wanted the correct order. He started speaking Spanish to someone else and he then changed his tone and attitude. He asked me if I ate any of it I told him that I ate 1 waffle fry and 2 small pieces of meat and then he stated that he couldn't do anything. I asked for the corporate number. He then gives me 747-8811 and stated that the office is not open and I need to speak with Johnny. I told him that I know who he is and that he would not be happy with this service that they are giving. When I called the number they were open and it was another location not the corporate number as he lied and stated. There was a nice server that gave me the correct number. when I called back to get James name he gave me a hard time and then hung up in my face.
