Plus, with the meal you get soup/salad, and tasty chips and bread with a yummy evoo dipping sauce. came here with my sister on a saturday night in the mood for pasta and was kind of disappointed. the service was great and we were sat pretty quickly but the food was subpar. the bread was eh, the soup tasted watered down, the salad was also watery with a hint of parmesan and the fried guoda cheese balls weren't very flavorful. the dishes that we got were also interesting and flavorless. both just tasted very greasy like the chicken piccata dish was in a bath of butter. overall the place just felt like it was supposed to be a step up from olive garden but would honestly have rather dined there for something more satisfying. We were there tonight [February 12] and while the food was good and portions more than generous, there was only one server. This might have been okay if she didn't spend long stretches out of sight. We had been seated more than 20 minutes by the time we could place our order. It wasn't a busy night. The other hiccup was one of the four dishes coming out several minutes after the others. The wall decorations are spare, generic and random- they don't go together, but it's also not trying to be eclectic and varied on purpose. But the Caesar salad is tasty, and so was my seafood ravioli- I ate all of it. The staff did a great job. And the portions are good- not too big. I think it's a fine place for folks who don't seek authentic Italian- it's all edible and flavorful, but it's a far cry from the real deal. Too many bad things to write a full review of all the mis-steps, but suffice it to say we had been to this restaurant once before and it was very good. This time I went with my husband, he got his meal, and about 10 minutes later they told me they forgot to make mine. It took so long to for the server to return that I asked him to just put it in a to-go box since my husband had finished his meal. He proceeded to ask if we wanted dessert, but I didn't even eat dinner!! To round out the experience, the server threw the check on the table with his back to us and left before we could even comment about the experience. Here are the 3 strikes that solidified why we will never return: 1. They didn't even offer to comp my meal, 2. They blamed it on new kitchen staff - it is NEVER a good look to blame someone else, and 3. When I got my sandwich home and attempted to eat it, it looked like it had been soaked in a vat of olive oil - there was at least 1/4 cup of oil that dripped out of the package, soaked through the paper and the wrap, all of the vegetables were raw, and the garlic dressing was missing. They obviously threw it together just to get something out. The sandwich was completely and ridiculously inedible... and of course because I didn't realize it until we got home, we PAID for it. As I have said in other reviews, I normally only post about really good places, and if I leave a low review, it is to warn people about exceptionally bad experiences. This was so bad it was nearly comical. I highly encourage the ownership and the staff of Nico & Ana's to get some formal training in customer service, food prep, and common decency if you want your business to be successful. It takes a LOT to make me consider a bad review, and after this horrible experience, I didn't think twice because they failed to take ownership of the problems and they didn't even give us an opportunity to share our concerns. What a yummy find! We were looking for a low key Italian restaurant for our adults-only pre-Christmas meal. It's a little confusing whether this is counter order fast-casual or make a reservation table-side order. Since it was a slow evening it didn't much matter but I think they will need to decide for the future so they can meet expectations. Either way the food is very good. My husband found the lasagne slightly greasy, but I had chicken piccata and it was perfect. Everyone else in the family cleared their plates so I'd say it was a success. Second time here, and the great service here still remains unmatched. When we came in (after months away) the lady in the front that served us last time remembered us. Our drinks were still never empty but for less than a minute. The Ambiance is laid back and casual. Still, the large windows reflect the ceiling lights in the night, and warm wooden floors cheer the place in the cold winter. The food is good. Interesting place. A would describe it as casual Italian. Staff is very friendly and helpful. When you sit down, they bring over a breadbasket and a plate with olive oil. The bread was toasted, and it had some other types of crackers/chips. They were good. We got the Chicken Parmesan Sandwich and Chicken Piccata. First the Chicken Parm Sandwich. It definitely did not look like a Chicken Parm Sandwich. Lacked sufficient sauce and cheese. With that said, it was a very good chicken sandwich. Bread was good. Just not a Chicken Parm Sandwich that I was expecting. I would give it 3 stars. The Chicken Piccata was delicious. Lot of chicken. Maybe a tad too much sauce. However, overall, some of the best we had. I would give it 5 stars. When you put the two together, I came up with 4 stars. Prices were very reasonable. My review for this place is way beyond due. I've had several dishes delivered to my office, but hadn't ever been in the actual physical location until recently. Parking outside is fine, if a bit cramped at lunch/dinner, in typical strip mall fashion. There's seating with about a dozen tables inside, making it feel cozy. The folks working here were buzzing around with purpose. My work compatriot and I both opted for the lunch special Caesar salad, adding grilled chicken. This is my go-to order and it's fantastic. The chicken is well seasoned, perfectly grilled, juicy, and plentifully topped on a bed of Romaine with cheese and croutons (which I opt out of being a newfound health conscious-ish person). Of note, I've also had the carbonara and it's to die for. No really, get clearance from your cardiologist first, because it's *that good*. The piada chips and garlic bread that come with the meals is nearly a meal in and of itself. I found the arancini to be delightful. And the tiramisu is heavenly. Meal and a dessert will set you back $20, but it's 100% worth it. In a busy world of chain restaurants and mega corps, this place is the perfect hole in the wall down home cooking Italian place that everyone loves (or will love if you give them a chance). If there were a way for me to stamp this with a seal of approval (editor's choice award? ); I would. 5/5 all day every day. read more

We had been hearing great things about Nico and Ana's for some time and decided to meet up with some family members to try it out. The atmosphere is pretty casual and there's tons of places to sit. We went on an early Sunday evening and there were a fair amount of people there. The service wasn't the fastest but it was ok because it wasn't excessively slow and everyone working was definitely busy. I will say that they are super accommodating. Everything I ordered, I asked to be customized and wasn't on the menu. They had zero issues with it and it was accurate when it came to the table. I ordered a small Caesar salad: Romaine lettuce, Parmesan cheese, piada chips with Caesar dressing. The lettuce was fresh. The chips were a nice crunchy extra. The salad was not overdressed which I appreciate. No one likes a soggy salad. I would definitely order this again. For an entree I ordered the Parmesan platter: Lightly breaded, fried chicken topped with Ana's marinara, and a mix of provolone and mozzarella cheese. It normally comes with seasoned vegetables or spaghetti aglio e olio. I substituted the Nico's Fettuccini. The chicken parm was delicious. The chicken was perfectly cooked and wasn't dry. The sauce was really good too. The fettuccine was also delicious. Super rich and creamy. The pasta was also not overcooked so it had a nice bite. The portions were also huge. I made two meals out of it easily. And the prices are super reasonable. Everyone at the table agreed that they'd come back. Definitely don't pass them up. read more

They fit nicely into a somewhat vacant mid-tier Italian restaurant spot in Overland Park. My pasta primavera ($9.99) was brought to my table just seven minutes after I ordered at the counter, which gave me time to dig into the complimentary pita chips, bread and olive oil. The entrée included penne noodles and an excellent variety of healthy, perfectly cooked veggies, but the olive oil could have used additional garlic, seasonings, butter and cheese. The dining area featured plenty of natural light and Italian background music. They also had a patio area, but I did not see any patio seating. Daily lunch specials and a bar would be good additions. Amazing Italian food, in casual dining environment. My husband and his friend had Linguine alle Vongole the quality of the dish was that of a high end Italian restaurant. The Italian Feast, the lasagna and two varieties of ravioli, was also superb. The red sauce was the best I have ever eaten. Wow oh wow this place is sneaky good. Walking in, you can tell it's more on the casual side but the food is definitely not a reflection of that. We started with glasses of sangria which, warning: they come in a full size cup not a wine glass. Next we did caesar salads which were great along with the complimentary bread. For my entree I did the parmesan platter with spaghetti (chicken parm) and that was the move. A great portion size and the chicken was fantastic. We ended with tiramisu and a cookie sandwich. I really enjoyed this little place. It's in the old Spin location at 119th and Metcalf. We sat out in the little courtyard which could use a little sprucing up. The service was great. My hubby and I got 2 sandwiches and shared. One with the side salad which was very good and one with steak fries which were also very good so you can't go wrong either way. Went here last night with my parents - we try to go to a new restaurant every week, when possible. This opened 2 days before we went, still doesn't have a website and no reviews, so my dad was prepared for a poor experience. And boy, was he surprised!! He and my mom came from across town so they arrived before me. The owner's son gave them beverages and garlic toast and oil while they waited for me and gave them lots of recommendations, which put them in a good mood. At 5:30, we were the only ones there but when we left a little after 6:30, they were doing a nice little business. Once I arrived, we ordered. I'm pretty sure I got my parents' orders right, but don't take them as gospel. Anyway, we ordered mixed toasted ravioli for the table, my dad got a sandwich that came with a salad, my mom, a piada, and I got the ziti. Everyone LOVED their food. If I were to get the toasted ravioli again, I'd get the sausage, the mixed has cheese ones and sausage and I preferred the sausage. The sauce they were in was delicious and I kept scooping it up long after my portion of ravioli was gone. My dad enjoyed his side salad, they put actual effort in and my dad kept using the cracker to scoop his food on his fork. Everyone loved their entrees, my dad especially. He's not an effusive diner, but he kept making really positive comments throughout. My mom loved the flavor of her piada but she did say it was a little greasy but we figured that was the nature of the wrap, since there was olive oil drizzled in the filling. I ordered wrong since I was last to get there and my parents arrived like 15 mins early and I felt rushed. I thought the ziti was terrific but I think I was in the mood for something else. We ended the meal splitting the cannoli, which was great to share, since it was deconstructed as cannoli "chips" with the ricotta dip, and a really good tiramisu. We dove in so no pics. On the way out, my dad stopped to give compliments to the owner's son after what he thought was a shockingly good experience so early in the business. The process is you order at the counter and they bring the food to you. You grab your own fountain drinks on your way to the table. They have a liquor license (both red and white sangria were "on tap"). They come by periodically to refill glasses, take away plates, and we were actually able to order dessert, and pay for it, at our table. I would say the ambiance needs a teeny bit of work, just a bit sparse for an Italian restaurant, but it's a casual place so it didn't bother me. Prices were really affordable. Our meal of 1 app, 1 side salad, 3 generous entrees, and 2 desserts was ~$60 before tips. Entrees were all around $11-$12, desserts ~$5. Anyway, looking forward to going back! The owner also owns Mi Ranchito and it's clear they know the restaurant biz. If they end up making more locations of this restaurant, they'll definitely be hits! read more

I popped in for a sandwich to-go while in the area and was immediately thrown off by the vibe. Pushing past that I've been searching for a good baked meatball sub, other than I can make at home, so I decided to give it a whirl. While the 2 meatballs had good flavor, that's about where it ended. I cannot speak to the sauce, because there wasn't any.....which is very frustrating when you get to-go! Secondly the cheese was an afterthought and barely melted, which is odd cause the bread was either burnt or just old as it crumbled and flaked while eating. A friend and co-worker recently pulled a bone-head stunt and I was the only one who could feasibly come to his rescue, and I happily did so. As a thank you he wanted to take me to lunch, and he had recently discovered Nico and Ana's, so that's where we went. Having never been there, I had no preconceived notions of what to expect. The restaurant itself is tucked away in a strip center off the main road. It would be easy to miss if one wasn't paying attention. Walking in was easy... the room was comfortable and casual. There are plenty of tables, and we were greeted and seated as soon as we arrived. The staff was friendly and the service was relatively quick. I perused the menu before we went and knew I would order the lasagna; that's generally my first order when visiting a new Italian restaurant. I also had a small Caesar salad. My buddy ordered the pesto pasta with chicken. The portions were generous, but not oversized. Flavors were as expected... Nothing really stood out-- neither as excellent nor as deficient. It was solid; a good meal at a reasonable price. Would I go back? Yes... If someone invited me or suggested it as a meeting place, but it's not likely I would initiate a visit. read more

I came here to celebrate my friends birthday. The inside was fairly spaced but a little smaller than imagined. The staff was very insisting to help me find my friends table. I found my friends outside on the patio. The patio has some bike artwork on the wall with bike racks resembling the fence which made me wonder if a bike store was nearby or had been there before. They had Christmas music playing in Italian which was also interesting. The food came out at a steady pace and our service was good. I would say that some pasta came out a little more oily (depending on the order) and some ravioli felt a little cheesy in consistency. Other than that, everything was well balanced. They offer a variety of carbs like fried tortilla puffs and bread for a free appetizer. The bill was distributed accurately for a large party which was nice. Great value and the 2 dishes we tried were fantastic! I had the Linguine Fra Diavolo and hubby had the lasagna. Mine was spicy and had a decent amount of shrimp and calamari in it. All for $12.99 with plenty to take home. I added a side salad for one at a cost of an additional $2.00 and it was very fresh. As soon as we were seated they brought a small basket with bread and chips which was a nice touch. The staff was very courteous and eager to make sure everyone was happy with their experience. The ambiance is very low key. It's definitely more about the food than the bells and whistles. We will be back! read more

The Yelp "spinning wheel" gave this place a recommendation the other day and we stopped by on a Saturday around lunch time. I probably would have ever found this spot if it weren't for Yelp. I ordered Toasted Cheese Ravioli and the Italian Street Style Piada. Mom got Minestron soup and Ana's Favorite Piada. The ordering process was easy. We took a seat and they brought us a basket of bread and tasty chips. They put a ton of yummy parmesan in the seasoned dipping oil too. It didn't take long for our food to come out. I'll be honest and say I hadn't read the description of the raviolis closely to see that they come bathing in a caper sauce, which at first I wasn't a huge fan of, but ended up enjoying the sauce quite a bit. The ravioli were not very memorable. The sauce was good with some of the bread they provided when we were seated. Mom enjoyed her soup. The piada's were presented wrapped in paper in a plastic basket. Even though they were wrapped up they were quite messy to eat. Again, I fault myself for not reading the ingredients or I would have asked to leave off the lettuce as it really drowned out the rest of the flavors. The steak was nicely cooked but didn't have any seasoning flavors that shined through. I'm not an expert on Italian food, so I did misunderstand what bruschetta was in their application (I was imagining the chopped tomatoes, etc. but it was more of what I usually would call a giardiniera -- I still liked it though). My wrap was really just spilling out with olive oil which made it extremely messy to eat to the point that we finally just packed both of ours up and took them home for later.
