I had LASIK done on Tuesday this week with Dr. Violin and Elaine. Both of which were fantastic…read more Here are my thoughts: 1) LASIK is somewhat competitive with companies so if the first thing you think about is cost, you can negotiate a good price - always negotiate because there is a good deal out there somewhere. I went for the free consult on Thursday 8/9/2012 and they scheduled my procedure for the following Tuesday - which is beyond awesome. 2) Elaine (nurse) - was very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She will return calls very promptly. She laid out all the good and the potential bad so that you have nothing to imagine after the procedure. Elaine will certainly make things much more comfortable. 3) The procedure - FAST. So you get this done in Quincy. Parking is terrible so get there a few minutes early. They will give you "something nice" to help you relax. The total time of laying on the procedure bed to the time you stand up and leave is seriously 5 minutes. The laser process is about 2-3 minutes total time for both eyes. They will talk to you throughout the procedure. Awesome. A lot of pressure but you can expect that. 4) Post-op - within a half hour after the procedure, the drugs wear off and it becomes extremely uncomfortable. All you want to do is close your eyes and rip something close to you in half. Hopefully you won't get stuck in traffic as I did. Take your happy pill and some NyQuil and sleep it off for a few hours. You will wake up and start to see nice. The next day I was seeing 20/15. Light sensitivity is very annoying but I can put up with it for that it's great to not need corrective lenses. The light sensitivity will make lights halo or glow a lot and certainly make things a little fuzzy. Just wear a hat for a few days. 5) Final words - I am on day 2 post-op. I am still sensitive to light but I see great. Better than great. My left eye is more sensitive than the right but I guess that is normal. I was 7 the last time I didn't need glasses - I never wore contacts. So I have no idea what it was like. It's like brand new to me. I am hoping that in another few days, it will all go away. On last thing - the protective goggles they provide you to wear at night for a week will leave deep imprints on your face if you sleep on the side of your face. Practice sleeping on your back. Job well done Dr. Violin and Elaine

It is a privilege to write about Dr. Sang and her team. Not only is Dr. Sang an elite and amazing…read moredoctor, but she shows compassion and really cares. Sometimes, that makes you feel better and is more needed than the treatments! At a time when I feared losing my vision due to macular degeneration, she was reassuring and supportive , and always answers my never ending list of questions, and with patience. Another side of Dr. Sang that I recently learned about is her mentorship. There are a group of young college grads working there who are taking a gap year and preparing to get into medical school. She is so giving and proud of how many of these interns have gone on to great careers. Each time you go for an appointment, it's a "major production." There are so many steps in the process and I have come to understand why it takes so long -- they take no shortcuts! There is a huge staff that supports Dr. Sang and each one has a specialty, from the people who answer the phone and make appts. to the people who do complicated eye scans. I don't envy the appt. people as everyone seems to want a different time -- including me -- and it's hard to make everyone happy, although they try. I guess my only complaint is that I wish I could turn back Dr. Sang's clock about 25 years so that she'd be in practice for another 25+ years. While she is around, I feel incredibly lucky for her to be my doctor!

Dr. Sang is the best doctor of any type that I have ever had. She is extraordinarily thorough,…read morehighly skilled, and takes as much time as necessary to go over every detail. She is also extremely warm, compassionate and can explain complex problems in a very clear way. I have been seeing her for many years ever since she did emergency laser surgery on me after an accident. Yes, sometimes the wait is long, but you are told in advance how much time to allow for your appointment. It is absolutely worth the wait if you want the most comprehensive, experienced evaluation/follow up. All the staff are great. Monica is a gem and all the technicians and students revere Dr. Sang, for good reason. I always take Dr. Sang's recommendations regarding other aspects of my health as well. She looks at my general health and reviews all my test results and gives me solid, thoughtful advice.
