Parking is ample in this plaza but the spaces near Nijiya have many new and popular vendors so you might have to park on the west side and hike. The Deli is on the LHS of the market and consists of a dining area, large grab and go cold Deli case with both sushi and cooked (cold) selections, a small "hot" item station and a pay station. This must have been a good time because the case was fully stocked with many choices. I've come at much later times and had slim pickings. After some short window shopping, I picked up the 6 pcs Tuna Roll consisting of 6 generous slices of fresh Ahi or Bluefin wrapped over a Nori, cucumber and faux crab salad rice roll. It was a tasty, satisfying $10.49 value. The variety of choices you will have depends on when you go, earlier the better. It's a great value grab and go sushi place. Have and will repeat. read more

My fav go to spot for an affordable, delicious and quick meal. They sell a variety of Japanese lunches, sushi rolls, sashimis, onigiris, sandos and more. There's no service here since it's all to go. Grab a post meal snack or beverage or even get some groceries while you're at it. I had me the California roll with salmon and a small salmon sashimi platter for only $15. Nijiya Deli serves quick hot food without hurting the piggy bank. Every penny counts these days. Recently, the price has increase. It must be the minimum wage increase of $15. Never the less, still a good deal. Food price range from $5-$10. You can't go wrong with any of the food. The ramen is pretty decent for a deli, comes with a egg, and few slices of pork. The curry is always a winner. Udon and soba is always a solid choice. You can always count on the quick service. That's what I like about this place. Nijiya Deli is located inside of the Nijiya Market. Found this little gem by driving inside the plaza and decided to check out the market. The deli is to your left when you first enter the market. They have a seating area and self-serve water. At the deli, they have a refrigerated section filled with grab and go bento boxes, a section for some fried goodies under some heat lamps and a section where you can order some ramen, udon and curry. I ordered the Nijiya ramen and crab cheese croquette. It's pretty affordable. When you pick up your food, they have a section where you can add as much green onion, chili powder, bonito flakes and I forgot what else. I though the ramen was ok. I enjoyed the crab cheese croquette! I just wished it was fresh. I'm sure it would taste a lot better. Anyways, I'm giving 4 stars for the deli overall. Nijiya Deli is a great place for quick, no-frill eats! The ramen is decent, although on my last visit the broth was a tad too hot, watered down, and less flavorful than usual. If you're lucky, you'll also get a perfect runny egg which seems to be getting rarer these days... :/ Their chashu is fresh, tender, and has the perfect amount of fat. Their noodles are usually pretty al dente too! Crab cream croquette is decent. It's hard to get on weekend mornings though! It's a nice tasty treat! Nijiya Deli is the perfect solution for when you're craving Japanese food but not craving the usual Japanese food prices! I've found that Nijiya is a total Marugame Udon dupe in terms of PRICING except it's WAY more accessible - I'm not trying to drive out to SF (or fly to LA or Honolulu) every time I get an udon craving. My go-to at Marugame is the Niku Udon, which they have at Nijiya for the BEAUTIFUL price of $6.50. Granted, the quality of the beef isn't as consistently good as Marugame's, but it does the trick. They also have a self-serve toppings bar for your green onions, seaweed, etc. THE VALUE CANNOT BE BEAT. Other memorable menu items are the freshly-fried chicken karaage & fried octopus and the wakame salad. Again, everything is super reasonably priced! The only thing is if you're eating on-site, a lot of times the tables are dirty and there isn't anyone consistently coming around to clean it. What a hidden gem! There's a little shop inside nijiya market that sells udon, ramen, soba, and various fried foods. I came here after hiking rancho San Antonio park, and inhaled the warm udon and sweet, vegetable croquette. The kakiage udon (#7: pan fried vegetable and seafood pancake on top of udon; $5) was good. Just know that it will start to taste a little greasy at some point. My mom and aunt both got the sansai; 1 soba and 1 udon ($4 each). It's pretty much vegetable soup and is quite refreshing. The main reason we came here was for the croquette and it is worth the $1.50.... So cheap! And it's self serve, so no need to tip ;) the croquette itself is nice and crispy on the outside and the inside is filled with soft and sweet yet savoury potato as well as a few other veggies (corn and carrot). Friendliest staff ever! My friend dropped his sushi and the staff said it's ok and told him to grab a new one. He also gave my friend a 20% off!! Although the cleanliness of the deli is not on point, the food there is pretty delicious! Definitely have to try the cream crab croquette, it's very unique and can't get it anywhere. I don't usually go out of my way to come here, but I swung by recently and got lots of snacks that I didn't find at Mitsuwa. I also got a ramen bowl to go and chicken karaage. It was not bad for the price and slightly better than what I expected. Marukai has a pretty large selection of snacks, and this Nijiya has snacks that Marukai doesn't have. Mitsuwa has the least selection. I can't wait to return whenever I am in the area. read more

Back here again! This time I definitely had to try the ramen. Nijiya ramen is $6.50 and it comes with 2 slice of cha shu and a boiled egg. The broth was light and hearty with a nice pork flavor. The cha shu was very flavorful and tender. It is not overly salty like others. The boiled egg with soy sauce infused was perfectly cooked. York was still running when you bite into it. The noodle was firm and pretty decent. Not as good as other ramen spots but it'll do. It is not the best ramen that will blow you away in flavor. It's a perfect ramen that's not too salty, rich, and oily that will make you wanna take a nap after. It's one of the heartier broth if you're watching your weight. $6.50 and don't need to tip is a deal! read more

I used to frequent the SF Japantown Nijiya, and I was pleasantly surprised to find that this one is, if anything, even better. There is a hot food section where they will prepare food on the spot, as well as a wide variety of prepared foods like sushi, donburis, grilled fish, noodles, seaweed, pickles, etc. They have the bomb Japanese canned coffees (don't judge just try, they are great) and a huge variety of Japanese... things... Sorry, I can't read Japanese but they have a lot of stuff. I got some soy sauce and it was very good. Overall the place is really cool, has a lot of great things to try, and the people are nice. The sushi, of course, is not at all restaurant quality, but it's better than Safeway/Whole Foods/etc. It's also not exactly cheap, and the parking lot... wow it's a disaster. This review is long overdue, this place has been my lunch spot (sometimes even dinner) for the last... I don't know how many years. Nijiya Deli is located to the immediately left upon entering the super market. It's a happy place I tell you. It gives you a sense that you are in Japan. There are walls of bento boxes, sushi, cold drinks, bread, you name it. And that's not all, there are some really affordable hot food options that are made to order. There are Ramen, Udon, Saba, Beef bowl, and many other choices. There are also made fried items such as croquette, karage, etc. For people who've been to japan, you know they have hot canned drinks in 7-11, this nijiya has a mini warmer that stores green tea and buckwheat tea, a very nice touch! I really like this place because it's consider a food court (well.. that's the only store), but it's very convenient! The nearest spot I have to get some food court style japanese food is in Mitsuwa in saratoga, and besides the expensive santouku ramen, the other spot is not as good as before. Nijiya's quality is probably not the best, but given it's price point, it's affordable and it's a comfort food. read more

I came here at around 7PM, and by that time pretty much all the sashimi-based boxes were sold, to my disappointment. The premade meals that were left didn't look great (despite 20% off for closing). I almost left but decided to try the beef udon. It was super tasty and arrived scaldingly hot in an attractive bowl. The broth was perfectly salted with rich flavor and the noodles had a soft texture which made them easy to grab without splashing. The beef didn't look very appetizing as it was finely chopped (almost ground) with a lot of stringy bits, but it tasted great. They have a topping station with seaweed, bonito, green onion, and some crunchy bits; I really went to town. They also have self-serve water. The "Nijiya Ramen" (Number 1) comes with three pieces of chasu (pork) and a marinated soft boiled egg that nine times out of ten is cooked to a gooey-runny perfection. I typically order this with an extra egg (extra dollar). The most gratifying aspect of this place other than the great price is how under the radar it is. The absence of hype-induced hipster-crowding, wait staff service, long waits, and pricey add-ons presents a more pleasant and authentic experience. The fresh topping buffet allows you to gratuitously pour on as much sliced green onion, seaweed, bonito flakes white pepper, and five spice as your taste buds desire. I bring a jar of homemade chili oil in to tie the flavor medley together. Alternatively you can purchase their off-shelf chili oil from the grocery aisle. The add-ons really impact the flavor so don't hold back! I will also shop the store for their packaged fresh ramen and packaged miso for home cooking. Go with the all-natural selections and avoid unnecessary MSG and transfats. What makes this place special is that neither if the other Nijiya market has a hot deli so this is pretty much the only place in the bay for this sort of casual high-value ramen experience. read more

I guess from a price performance perspective, the deli is a good value, though the food is utility really. Having to make a meeting in a short time i hit up for a quick meal. Ramen and curry. The bowl isnt large, packaged noodles , decent broth and good chasu. Add more bonito flakes to give extra umami. Curry with rice is not super hot so you have to eat quick. It'll fill you up for not much money. Ambiance is somewhat like eating at Lawson's in Tokyo; that strange convenience store style. Love coming here for a quick and easy lunch. They have a wide variety of options in the refrigerated section as well as hot food! The ramen is actually pretty decent for only $8 and it comes with an egg! I was super surprised that it did at that price point. I'm a big fan of the croquettes and the seafood tempura too in the hot section. These are sold individually while the other fried things are sold by the pound. From the refrigerated section I either get rice balls or some type of roll. I really like the rice balls. It's super filling for super cheap! I needed to grab a quick lunch so came here with a friend to get some ramen that I heard was pretty good. I got the standard ramen with pork and egg and it was great and satisfying. Most of all, it was very quick and provided with friendly service. The broth was flavorful and not too salty or oily. The pork was tender and not chewy like in some ramens that I have had before. Also, the egg in it was cooked perfectly. You can also pick up some groceries while you're here because the deli that serves the ramen is located inside a grocery store. First time I've had ramen here and it's actually really good! The noodles were thick, chewy, and al dente just the way I like it! Broth was really tasty and wasn't sub par like most ramen shops I've been to. They gave me plenty of chashu to fill up my bowel. The gentleman at the counter was so nice. They have a very simple menu and it's convenient that you can order take out while you do some grocery shopping and have it ready when you check out. Decent selection with all sorts of Japanese products you wouldn't be able to find at most other grocery stores, even Asian grocery stores. Large fresh deli selection also. It could be a little bit cleaner but not a deal breaker all things considered. One good sign, there were a good number of Japanese customers which is always a good sign for a Japanese market. We came here because of the positive yelp reviews and it turned out to be an expensive and regretful meal in a dump. We ordered ramens and nothing was even close to a bowl of ramen. The noodles taste and look like instant noodles out of packages. The tables and chairs are completely filthy. The price is not cheap and close to Mari Ichi charges. The eggs were completely uncooked, the broth is covered in thick oil layer, the only edible thing is the pork, but was extremely fat. I feel like I'm eating like a homeless person there or feel like a raccoon eating from a trash can. Have been to Nijiya market many times but never tried the prepared food. Boy was I missing out! I tried the Nijiya Ramen and a Crab Creme Croquette, which with were both a very reasonable price (6.50 and 1.50). The croquette was pretty good, great with a packet of sauce I found near the ramen toppings (I think it was tonkatsu sauce) but the real star was the ramen. Maybe I came on a good day but I was floored by the quality of the broth. The umami rich creamy porky broth was near perfect, capturing that authentic savoriness that so many ramen restaurants in this area lack. The chasu was thinly sliced and just fatty enough with good flavor. Noodles seemed a bit firm at first but softened up to a great texture. The only disappointment was the egg being slightly overlooked, yet the soy sauce infused flavor was fantastic. While unlimited toppings of bonito flake, seaweed(?) and crispy rice puffs were great I wish they supplied hot oil. Overall I'm extremely impressed by the Ramen at Nijiya. I'd prefer this broth to dohatsuten, maruichi, and ryowa any day. While not quite as good as Ramen dojo or Santouka, for the price this Ramen is absolutely incredible!
