DELICIOUS, AMAZING, FRESH. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted warmly by the staff. We got a table for two without reservation at 8pm. Our meals came with complimentary miso soup which was a very pleasant surprise. We got First Date, Haru, and Dragon rolls. All three were solid and fish tasted fresh. Generous amount of toppings and sauce on each as well. The agedashi tofu was nicely breaded on the exterior and sauce complemented the tofu well. The ladies helping us were super sweet and checked in on us to make sure everything was going smoothly. Everything from the tables to the bathrooms were well-kempt. Parking was spacious in the plaza. Wanted some sushi tonight relatively close to home and decided to try Katana about 15 minutes after they opened for dinner service. They get a fair amount of take-out business besides sit down customers. The good: The wait staff are friendly and attentive. The sushi is freshly prepared with nice presentation. The gyoza are deep fried, not pan fried, but are still nice as I couldn't tell they were vegetarian. The not-so-good: The ingredients were stale and lacked the authentic flavors and textures I was hoping to enjoy. I ordered the Dragon Roll and Futomaki. The tempura shrimp used in the Dragon Roll had sat around for some time and was not crisp by the time is was used in this dish. The sushi rice lacked punch and brightness that I've tasted before when it is seasoned with rice vinegar. The spinach and carrot are two of the main veggies in Futomaki, and they also lacked any flavor. The do not use shiitake mushrooms, or kanpyo gourd in this roll which I've had before. I ended up dipping the Futomaki in the unagi sauce from the Dragon Roll to give it some flavor. Guess, I'm spoiled from places I've tried in the past and will have to expand my search for a Japanese Sushi restaurant that offers a bit more authentic preparation. read more

Came here on Valentine's Day because my boyfriend and I always wondered about this place. We waited about 15 minutes for a table. After being seated, we had to wait for a fairly long time for the employee to take our order. Got 3 rolls, tempura, miso soup, and sashimi appetitzer. First red flag was when my boyfriend asked for new plates, the employee said there was already ones on the table. We didn't know if they were new. When she seated us the table was literally still wet and she had to wipe it dry and add the chopsticks and napkins. He asked again politely for new plates and she insisted they were new. Second red flag was one of the employees took the soy sauce from our table, did not even ask if we were finished, which we were not. We literally got our food 10 minutes earlier and it was just 8:20pm. I guess they wanted to be done at 9pm, lol. Third red flag is the 20 percent servive charge, which server later said was tip. Like what? That is fine normally, but the service was TRASH! Sushi rolls are medicore. Sashimi was good quality, but way more expensive than other sushi spots. Will never return. read more

We got the Chicken Donburi, Tonkatsu Donburi, rainbow roll, and crunch roll, just to be able to try a bunch of different options. I love Donburi and it's a go-to for me at many Japanese restaurants, so I was eager to try Katana's. Frankly I thought it lacked much flavor. The chicken just didn't taste like much unfortunately. On the flip side, the Tonkatsu was incredibly salty, so it was a bit overwhelming and neither was seasoned properly in my opinion. The rolls were fairly average to me, again not bad but not great. The restaurant had two other people sitting in the corner. They weren't exactly busy and no imminent threat of being busy. No large families came in to take those booths. Her unfriendly demeanor made me uncomfortable. Hon, you might have a disagreeing personality but this attitude should never be used toward customers. The sashimi was 3 pieces of salmon and 2 pieces of tuna, which were cut very thick. The bento box came with this refreshing cucumber/bean sprout (?) dish, rice, and an orange slice I loved the presentation of the bento box too. The servers are attentive, and there's pop music playing as you eat. The food came out at a reasonable quick time. Plenty of parking available too. We haven't tried a lot of sushi and sashimi places in the bay area but have definitely eaten our share in other States. We stumbled upon Katana a while ago and have already visited this place a few times. We love their cooked sushi rolls that have a burst of flavor coming through and are a good size and not those tiny rolls you find in other places. We find their sashimi to be very delicious, fresh and beautifully crafted with the right texture of the fish maintained very well. Their hand rolls are very tasty as well. Try their spicy tuna roll and godzilla and you'll be very happy. We usually go with their combos but this time around we chose individual rolls. They were yummy, bigger in size and served with a smile. Their seaweed salad is perfection! It's served with pickled veggies and is a must have! Their miso soup is not watered down. The taste is standard but is mixed thoroughly and comes out piping out. If it's not, we request that it is and it is taken care of. There's usually not a lot of people dining here but we've never seen them compromise on quality. We tried their noodles and they were yum too. I'm a huge fan of their shrimp tempura served with a cold sauce on the side and it's yummy. I usually go for shrimp tempura and it's impressive. A hidden gem in the South Bay! This is the best sushi I've had out here, the fish is always fresh and full of flavor. The sashimi melts in your mouth and they have a huge range of nigiri options. The spicy chicken is a must have if you like spicy food. The bento portions are perfect and they're a great value. All of the noodle dishes are terrific! The staff is very friendly and attentive, they're all absolutely wonderful. This place is great for large groups or for families or friends to have a relaxing meal. Every anniversary, birthday, valentines or sometimes just when we're craving sushi we find ourselves wanting to come here to eat! Staff is always so kind and friendly, food comes out quick, and it's usually pretty quiet and calm in there even when theres a crowd. We have 0 negative things to say about this place and every time we go the food is always super tasty and staff is always nice! Prior to coming to this restaurant, I attempted to order take-out, but felt like I had a bad experience with the lady who answered the phone. Took another shot a few nights ago and saw how it looked busy from the outside and even more packed as soon as we walked in. It was all in perfect timing as we got the last table by the sushi bar. Minute after we trickled in, more customers fell in line, both eating in and eating out. I learned something new that 'sake' means "salmon". So I asked waitress if 'hot sake' meant "hot rice liquor flavored salmon". "Sake-to-me-sister" the waitress looked at me and laughed. lol. Ordered random sushi rolls and I'm glad I went with my intuition. We ordered Explosion (slightly spiced), Crazy Atomic (assorted baked fish included) and the Rainbow Rolls, paired with Asahi Beer. Came here 5 days after Santa Clara county met the CA covid orange tier, allowing 50% indoor dining. First time ate sushi since the start of the pandemic 13 months ago. Wooden paneled floors, floor to ceiling windows, overhead ceiling lights, beautiful interior. 4 tables outside, and 8 tables inside, each table seating 4 people. We picked an indoor table right next to the open door, for maximum ventilation. I ordered the $24 Bento selection of 3, picking california roll, chicken teriyaki, and combo tempura. Wife ordered the $26 sashimi. Meals come with miso soup and a salad. The miso soup has tiny cubes of tofu, mixed in with the seaweed. Wife should have ordered the dressing on side of the salad, as it and the sliced tomato are saturated with the heavy creamy dressing. I'm not complaining, as I got an extra bowl of salad to eat. Service is good, with the California roll arriving first. 6 large rolls of avocado, crab, held together with mayo, and wrapped in seaweed paper, surrounded by a large cube of sticky rice. Came out quickly. The crab tastes real, and not imitation, but the seaweed paper is shaped like a funnel, with the amount of crab minimal. I would order again. The sashimi consists of 12 very thick pieces of raw fish on a bed of shredded radish. The visual presentation is excellent, and the salmon and multiple varieties of tuna are fresh and pleasing to the taste. Much larger portion of sashimi than wife is used to . The combo tempura consists of , 2 large shrimp several inches long, broccoli, sweet potato, carrot, potato, and cauliflower. Not too greasy, but has to be eaten immediately, while it is still hot. Not a dish for take out. The chicken teriyaki is a huge dish, at least 10 ounces, double the portion I'm used to. Very potent sauce over sliced white chicken, covered with a strong tasting sauce. Enjoyed this, and would order again. Only hiccup of the entire meal is the bill, where I was charged separately for the Bento box from the California roll, when if combined as a 3 item bento box would have been $24 instead of $26. Wife had problems cutting the large hunks of fish in her sashimi with her chopsticks, even trying using one chopstick in each hand, spearing the fish! read more
