The tempura shrimp looked like somebody flattened one tiny shrimp with a rolling pin and buried it under a mountain of panko. Mostly crunch, very little shrimp. Then it came with this weird sweet and sour sauce that tasted like it was trying to decide what cuisine it belonged to. The fried tofu had zero crunch. The skin was super soft and light. Some people may like that texture. We did not. Fried tofu without crunch feels like a broken promise. But the true final boss was the chashu. Wow. Dry doesn't even cover it. It tasted freezer burned in the most aggressive way possible. Like meat that sat in the back of a freezer absorbing the flavor of frozen waffles, ice cubes, and regret for six months. One bite and my brain immediately said "refrigerator and bad decisions." I could barely finish it. Even the noodles had this weird chalky texture that I still can't explain. Maybe they were trying something unique. Maybe my taste buds filed a complaint and left. And for $17, no egg or mushrooms included? Most ramen spots include that stuff already at this price point. Felt kinda wild paying premium prices for disappointment with noodles. Also... the fake sriracha. I don't know what brand that was, but it tasted oddly sweet and sour too. I kept trying to see if anyone would acknowledge me. Maybe after 5 minutes, someone finally asked, "Have you been helped?" People were ordering at different times, it was difficult to keep track of what everyone had selected, and because you couldn't hear others placing their orders as you would with a traditional menu, coordinating appetizers or avoiding duplicate items was challenging. It also seemed to create extra confusion for the waitstaff. I can see this system working well for a solo diner or a couple, but for larger groups, I think a more traditional ordering option would make for a much smoother experience.
