This is a great spot for truly authentic Mexican tacos in Sioux Falls. I had been a couple times during the pandemic, and on a recent visit to Sioux Falls I thought I would try it again (subsequent to actually living in Mexico). It did not disappoint! There are a variety of meats to choose from, pastor, carnitas, chicken, steak, etc, and if you prefer a burrito or a torta those options are available also. I three tacos, a chicken, a pastor (marinated pork), and carnitas. I would say that chicken and the pastor were great, but the carnitas is maybe not their strong suit - overall though, the tacos were delicious and about as original as you can get this far north of the border. Prices are also extremely reasonable. Another must try in Sioux FallsOn Mondays (and maybe certain other days of the week) they close at 3, so keep that in mind if you plan to go. read more

Stopped here looking for something quick and easy but not a chain. Tacos called to us as we are traveling quite a bit up north this week. Being from Chicago, I will say, these tacos are plenty legit. I liked the chicken the best, it actually had a wonderful marinade flavor. I also had the tongue and the steak which were good as well. I tried a few of the salsas from the cart and my goodness, that orange habanero salsa was so delicious! It made me cry, but it was tasty. So was the roasted tomato and the seasoned vegetables (proof of authenticity) which I mixed with my side of beans. The Horchata was excellent too, not too sweet and my preferred amount of cinnamon. I went to Tortilleria Hernandez on Saturday and after drooling for an hour arrived to find it closed! No mention of it on the web site. Their loss. So right next door I found Nikki's Burrito Express. After talking with the guy behind the counter, I decided that this little hole in the wall was exactly what I was hoping to find. I ordered 4 steak burritos. I ordered them Mexican style with onions and cilantro only. But then I saw the guacamole and had to add that too. They come with beans and rice if you like inside. They were HUGE!! And the best I've had since moving from San Diego 11 years ago. I was beginning to doubt that there could be good Mexican food anywhere but so cal! I was happily surprised and this will be my go to Mexican place when I need a Mexican food fix! I only wish the drinks came with the meals - there was nice heat on all the sauces and everything was very flavorful. A pretty good value for the food - and more authentic than I've had in Sioux Falls so far. Food is obtained cafeteria style, but this does allow you to add whichever toppings you like. Food is served on paper plates and seating is pretty simple - which is perfect for me but not a fancy/impressive place if that is what you're looking for. We also enjoyed the store. We stopped here while on a tip to Mt Rushmore after reading about it on Yelp. We lived on the west coast for almost 10 years and we love authentic Mexican food. Tex Mex is fine, but not the same. My theory is if a place serves tongue, they are probably the real deal. We stopped in here and the chicken and pork tacos we had were fantastic. It also had a surprising stream of customers considering it was 5 PM on a Sunday. Highly recommended and we will be stopping here on our way home. read more

If you're looking for a quick, inexpensive and tasty Mexican lunch it doesn't get much better than Nikki's. They have almost a dozen different kinds of meat to fill tacos and burritos to order. My favorite is tongue. I recommend the tongue in tacos (tacos de lengua) with corn tortillas, garnished with radishes and pico de gaillo. The tongue is tender and moist, mildly seasoned to allow it's rich beefy flavor to come through. The simply complement of radishes and their fresh pico de gaillo balance and compliment the savoriness of the meat. For the more adventurous the also have tripe, which I have yet to try. That said their picadillo and carnitas are superb if you're not into offal. After a healthy plate of tacos I recommend getting a warm dolce de leche filled churro from the attached grocery. The grocery has a wide variety of homemade Mexican snacks and sweets. Their carne seca is better than any mass produced beef jerky. Their in house butcher makes chorizo and chicharrones (pork rinds). These are no ordinary pork rinds. They're made fresh and it is possible to get them hot. They're not processed. After the initial crunch it is obvious to the palate what your eating. A bit like over crisped bacon. Some of the thicker pieces explode in your mouth with a center of savory, voluptuous pork fat. Something you don't want to have a whole bag of by yourself. read more

One of my favorites in town. Don't go there expecting a full service sit down restaurant with free salsa and chips and staff singing for you on your birthday, just go for the food. After leaving Phoenix I was jonesing for some real authentic Mexican street food. After a long search I thought I found the place. I was wrong. Everyone claims it's authentic. I don't see it. I tried to order an Arizona Burrito, The guy said he knew how to make one, he did not. They use filler in their burritos so they can skimp on the meat. I've never had authentic Mexican with beans and rice in the burrito. The hot sauce lacked flavor or hotness. Seemed watered down. I may go back and check out some of the other dishes. I know Nikki's gets rave reviews, but I just don't see it. read more

Very good place to stop and grab a quick bite. The food was phenomenal, but I wasn't brave enough to try the tongue or tripe. Maybe next time. The parking lot is very small, but the road wasn't too busy so we make a round or two trying to find a place to park. The inside is small as well, just a few tables, but it works. They have some interesting menu items, but we opted for 9 tacos, and some "Mexican cokes".
