Probably everyone in Sioux Falls knows this spot as a place that's great for late night food after consuming horrifying amounts of alcohol, but did you know it's actually BETTER in the daytime? A rarity for late-night drunk food spots, Gili-b's is actually some super legit Mexican food. I've come here for lunch dozens of times when the food and kitchen is fresh, the customers are sober, and the employees aren't stressed by a bunch of drunken jerks asking for ridiculous orders and demanding their food be ready with the speed of Taco Bell. Since I'm gluten free, the street tacos are my go-to. Nothing better than meat in corn tortillas, topped off with onions and cilantro. What else do you need? Alright, their salsas and sauces are also excellent. My favorites are the chorizo, carnitas, carne asada, chicharron and lengua (unfortunately they are sometimes sold out of this one). Our orders are very rarely correct anymore. And if they are, they're disappointing. The steak is overcooked and chewy. The vegetable burrito contained lettuce, beans, spoonful of cheese, and pico de gallo. Not a single vegetable on it?! Ordered cheese enchiladas and got chicken. Do you not ask for pico de gallo, ranchero or enchilada sauce because all you'll get is their hot spicy salsa. My children do speak fluent Spanish so there should not be a language barrier. What once was the up-and-coming best takeout restaurant in Sioux Falls, which could be franchised, has turned into overpriced takeout. The food was good for Mexican food in South Dakota. Prices were also good. I thought I found my favorite place to eat. They get one star because after I ate I used the ladies room and THERE WAS NO SOAP!! Not in like it was empty. The soap dispenser was missing from the wall and looked like it has been for a while. There is a sign on the inside of the door telling employees to wash their hands before returning to work. I won't be back and will warn everyone I know about the their lack of hygiene. read more

They had us go through the drive through to reorder because she was upset? Made no sense to me. What a gem of a find near downtown Sioux Falls! We had an early morning drive to Rapid City and were in need of a quick breakfast. This spot is always open and has a great breakfast and all day menu. Doing some late night bar-hopping in Sioux Falls and we were hungry. The bartender and some fellow customers all recommended Gilberto's, so we called Uber and dropped in for a late night bite. The menu is crazy huge and really hard to narrow down, so we ended up ordering 4 items for 2 people. The elotes was perfectly slathered with butter, white cheese, chili powder and mayo. The taquitos were crunchy and meaty, my buddy said his chimichanga was awesome but I didn't try. The star of the show was the crazy fries. It could easily feed a family of 4, or a very hungry individual such as myself. I got my burrito to go. It was ready within five minutes of me ordering it. I would only recommend putting a small description of what each item is to help me choose. I ordered the Pork Green chili combo. It is definitely made for two people. The warm flour tortillas are genuine and very good. They are the super large ones so don't expect a small one. I ordered a pork tamale on the side but they ran out so I settled for chicken. I was surprised to find an authentic looking mom and pop shop type Mexican food restaurant in Sioux Falls and it wasn't a horrible find either. The menu reads great and has a huge selection of options, they have everything from tacos to guisos (stews) to elote. We got fish tacos and a chile relleno. The fish tacos weren't bad but didn't wow us either, just a typical fish taco. The chile relleno was disappointing for me. First, I was not expecting it to be filled with cheese which is not unique but normally you get an option of filling to which I prefer beef- Not a deal breaker though. Second, the plate had too much going on. The dish was topped with an enchilada sauce then covered in cheese with sides like guacamole and sour cream around and under the chile. This may have worked for other dishes but I felt like it was too much for a simple authentic style chile relleno. Not my preference but maybe it's what the locals there like. Deal breaker for me. As for the service and the restaurant itself, it was great. The staff was attentive and the place looked and felt authentic. All in all, I will still give this restaurant a try again if I ever return I just won't be ordering the chile relleno again. read more

Well, the food was delicious! Easily worth the price. The service was laid-back and the way they redecorated an old Wendy's fastfood building was original. I wish it was more traditional. Ordered Take out on August 14, 2021 at the 712 S Minnesota location in Sioux Falls SD. I ordered the chicken fajita combo for $10.50. I gave them a 3-Star rating this time because I called in my order, 15 minutes before getting to the restaurant. Once I got there, it was complete chaos with the staff and the packed restaurant. People were all over the place, it was super loud and my order wasn't ready. When I asked if they had my phone order, the women behind the counter just stared at me. I had to ask 2 more times and still no one replied. I waited 20 more minutes inside and wasn't given any explanation as to why it was late. I just had the rudest experience at Gilberto's on Minnesota and I'm really disappointed. I ordered in the drive-thru and of course the wait was long because it always is. So I was okay with that. Unfortunately, when I got home 2 items were missing from my order. So now - I have to turn around and go back and wait in that short yet time-consuming line a second time while my food sits at home and gets cold. When I finally get to the window, instead of an apology, I get sassed by the cashier and blamed for their mistake - zero acknowledgement that 1) they messed up or 2) that the food they did get right is now cold and less desirable or 3) that I had to drive there TWICE and idle in line forever TWICE - and gas is record-breakingly expensive right now. Hey, people make mistakes. A simple - "I'm sorry about, here's your food" that would have more than sufficed. But instead, now I get to spend more time chatting with the kind faces down at Jackie's Burrito Express.
