Volunteered through my company at Veggielution!…read more The farm box packing event started right on time at 9:30am. I appreciated how Veggielution has posted videos showing how and where to enter the property. Staff explained the instructions thoroughly and handed out gloves. It was a hot day so I was thankful that the event was under a shed and the food packing itself was straightforward and not very strenuous. We filled the boxes with fruits and vegetables assembly line style and then stacked them all up. With our big group, we finished packing 725 produce boxes in about 90 minutes. Some of us also helped remove weeds around the shed using hands + shovels. At the end, one of the employees gave us a guided tour of the farm which was super fun! He talked about the different events they host - on Saturdays there is a Farmer's Market and youth garden for little kids. The farm is huge, so it was cool to look around and learn about their farming practices. Also learned that they offer low-cost fruits and vegetables to the community! Staff was very friendly and efficient! They provided us with all the necessary tools. There were some leftover fruits and vegetables, and volunteers were allowed to take them home which was super nice! Overall, I would definitely volunteer at Veggielution again. Their website is up to date with helpful information which makes the whole volunteer process very easy to navigate. They also host interesting community events that I would recommend checking out!

I try to schedule my family and my appointments around a farmers market day at Santa Clara. Today was my first time at Skyport. Both intimate sites have their unique offerings and overlaps due to location. The skyport leans heavier towards food truck & prepared food offerings as it uses its parking lot. There are portable and tented seating available to enjoy your meal. I was pleased to see prepared food & beverages offerings that cater to diverse cuisine, appetites & diet. Dad was able to indulge in nostalgic homemade Filipino baked goods, chicken lumpia & empanadas (beef & chicken). For me dedicated to be as whole plant forward as possible, enjoyed a stuffed baked potato (hold the bacon). We were pleased to discover that our favorite farmer market Bakery, California bakery set up shop here. Sold out of their country rye bread, which reminds hubby of his Pennsylvanian childhood, we made sure got the last chicken empanada. Then went to my fave pita booth to get their last whole wheat pita bag. There are two farmers offering produce with a few smaller ones that offer fruit in season. The larger farm stand is from Fresno so they close shop at 1pm to beat traffic, so head to farmers market by 12 to have enough time to buy your veggies. Additional booths include honey, plants & holistic alternative healings. Thanks to the pita shop, I learned about their frequent buyer stamp card. Stop by the info booth for Paulo to verify your purchases & stamp your card. When it's full, get $30 towards purchases. We stopped by 4 shops, spent about $60 & got our card stamped twice (max per visit).

Small and sweet farmer's market…read more This farmers market started in July 2024 in the Kaiser parking lot at Its Skyport location. It is petite as farmers markets go, but very friendly. Parking is easily available. A good spot for a quick lunch to go . There are a few communal tables if you prefer to eat here. Very comfortable place to visit in the morning and in the winter. It may get a little too toasty in the summer. Only open on Fridays. Shop local and come here for an early lunch.
