This place reminded me a lot of Treat Liege Waffle and Ice cream in Pittsburgh, so I had to give this one a try! They had plentiful flavors of unique ice cream flavors, and the common ones as well! For the 3 hours we spent in Doylestown, there were constantly people ordering in the shop and eating their ice cream outside enjoying the summer night! We ordered the cinna-waffle with a scoop of cinnamon-bourbon ice cream: if you couldn't tell by the order, I'm obsessed with cinnamon! It was delectable! The liege waffle began to slightly melt the ice cream, but not to the point where it ever became soupy! The waffle had an excellent sweet vanilla flavor to it, and was very enjoyable just to eat on its own! The cinnamon-bourbon ice cream is a must try! There were real pieces of cinnamon in there, which enhanced the flavor superbly! The combination of the ice cream and waffle just blew me away tho... they paired so well with each other! This is definitely an awesome spot in Doylestown to check out if you need something for dessert after dinner, or are just trying to enjoy a night out. There were three of us, and we ordered chocolate, birthday cake, and coconut ice cream, respectively, on a warm waffle. I go easy on the sugar most of the time, but ice cream is a monthly exception. This ice cream was wonderful, and so many flavors to choose from. The ice cream softened on the warm waffle and added a little sweet cream to make the waffle moist. Eh. It wasn't the worst ice cream I have ever had but it wasn't the best by a long shot. I got the Peanut Butter Caramel and my husband got Milk Chocolate. Both of us noticed right away that the ice cream seemed gummy. When you pulled the spoon out of the ice cream, it was a long extended stretch sort of like you experience with mozzarella when pulling a piece of pizza from a fresh pie. After googling what would cause this, seems like improper freezing might be the culprit since we also each had some ice crystals in our ice cream as well. Besides the texture, the flavors themselves were ok. I would have liked a little more chunks of peanut butter in my Peanut Butter Caramel ice cream and maybe at least a few ribbons of caramel (there seemed to be none). This is the worst ice cream in all of Bucks County and maybe Eastern Pennsylvania, and I'm pretty much an expert. The employees were friendly and the ice cream was edible. That's it. That's everything nice I have to say. The flavors don't taste like what they're supposed to. The peanut butter caramel tasted like, IDK, maybe a jar of Jif sneezed on it? Vaguely PB flavored. Not sure where caramel came from but it wasn't in the ice cream. Know what was? Ice crystals. The bourbon cinnamon tasted like cinnamon, but someone is definitely lying about where the bourbon is because it is not in the ice cream. But the crystals are there, too. The waffle was heavy, dense, and doughy. Awful. I didn't even eat it. This shitty review cost me over $11. Try any other ice cream place. My favorite dessert spot in Doylestown! The waffles are unlike any other, thick and crispy and so flavorful. The moment you walk in you can smell the delicious sugar of the waffles that makes your mouth start to water. They also have great ice cream and I love getting a waffle with a scoop of the espresso crunch ice cream. I recently ordered takeout--I ordered the Nutella and Strawberry waffle which came with a generous portion of both toppings. Ice cream only review: I've been waiting to try Nina's for a few years, didn't really care what location. I looked through the windows of the New Hope branch after a large meal and had to pass. I figured I'd have tried the Princeton parlor by now, but that failed to happen too. So I find myself in Doylestown today and KNEW that this was the one. It's a small and appropriately decorated shop, 2 nice window tables and a few more smaller ones throughout. The ice cream case is limited to 18 choices, which really is plenty. Samples are encouraged but I had a good idea of what I wanted. The chocolate chocolate was dark and enticing, and the Cherry cobbler sounded like a good flavor to contrast it with. Both excellent. This chocolate is at the top of my chocolate list, tying for first with "the cow". The Cherry was a surprise, sweet and tartish bing cherries with large cobbler pieces. Both had great creaminess and strong natural flavors, best of all to me, they knew these offerings did not require large amounts of added sugar. The waffles looked and smelled great, if not for the beer and burger lunch, maybe I'd opt for the extra carbs. I have one special criteria for awarding the fifth star for an ice cream place, free water. And they have it. I'll probably go to Princeton for further research as it's much closer, but Doylestown is such a cute place, I could easily be persuaded to return here too. read more

We stopped by Nina's Waffles & Ice Cream as we cruised Doylestown after the March for Science. It was a first visit, and the instant impression was one of an old time, wood floor, bright walled, musical, ice cream parlor. A small space for a popular destination, the room had less than a half dozen tables to sit and enjoy their interesting take on hot waffles and cold creams. The high glass refrigeration unit held about a dozen and a half flavors, with the industrial waffle iron right next to it. As we took it all in, one of the women behind the counter let us know we could sample any of their creamies with tiny spoons. We demurred, and went directly to ordering a waffle with two scoops of their offerings, Berry Berry and Banana Walnut. It was served in a heavy weight paper boat (like for fried chicken and fries), with plastic utensils, including a knife for cutting the underlying thick waffle. The cost of $10+ for what seemed to be two large scoops of ice cream and a thick waffle, took me aback for a second, but I decided to consume this dessert before deciding if it was overpriced. Nina makes her own ice cream in her store in New Hope, Pa. It is high quality, creamy, and invested in local sourced ingredients (where available), and subtle flavors that demand your attention for full enjoyment. The Berry Berry was very good, and the Banana Walnut was a pleasant surprise in not having that unpleasant banana extract taste, but a gentle real ripe Chiquita lick. Big chunky walnuts, too. Nina knows from ice cream. The waffle did require knife to cut into bite size pieces, and possessed a heavy texture that held up well to the melting above. Yet, in the overall scheme of things, the ice cream was far superior to the doughy base. The interplay between the solid and the liquid was pleasing for a moment, with the waffle offering a slight saltiness that magnified the sweetness topside. Still, if pressed to save a few calories, I would opt for all ice cream, and take a pass on the iron cakes. A few more tables within, and some benches without, would help make Nina's into a true ice cream hangout, particularly on cooler or rainy days, when walking around town with an ice cream cone is not the funnest thing to do. Hard to lick and hold an umbrella. Still, if ice cream is your thing, Nina's has something waiting for you that will definitely make you smile. Maybe a tad overpriced the way I ordered it, but next time I would skip the waffle and go straight to the cool delicious prize. read more
