We had dinner here on Saturday night. The food was great, came out quick. It was really fresh. The reason for the 3 stars was this. We waited about 15 minutes to be seated, which was fine, they were busy and it was worth the wait. My thing was, we got our food and it was time for our waitress to "clock out", we were reminded several times that she needed to leave. The bartender kindly took over our table, because she could tell we clearly were not ready to be done, AND STILL were reminded to "hurry up because our server needed to leave" (by another server). The food was great the drinks were great, our bartender Breanna was great. The servers need some more training on etiquette. I don't know if we will go back? Maybe if we know shift times and changes so we won't have to rush. read more

This is a generic sushi place. The fish isn't special and there are lots of 'kitchen sink' rolls with waaaay to many ingredients. Their udon is ok. My biggest gripe is the service. The wait for food doesn't seem to have anything to do with the number of people in the restaurant. If you come in on the wrong day, you're going to sit awhile. The servers often come across as rude. I think it must come from the owner/manager because it's pretty much universal. If you're in the neighborhood and want sushi, it's an ok place to eat, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come here. read more

For Gilroy.. this place has great sushi. I have been eating here over the last couple of months. And it's pretty good. It's nice because you can call in the order and it's ready when you get there. The customer service is nice as well. read more

The environment is friendly and the food is delicious. What's also very good about Ninja Sushi is that their rolls and servings are larger than your average sushi place, so you get more bang for the buck. Normally in Japanese restaurants I never feel "filled up", but here I definitely get full! They have a sports bar there too, as well was free wifi, so it's a really great place to eat. I came here once. NEVER AGAIN. Our server was so rude. She didn't make eye contact with us and brought us the wrong drinks. I ordered the chicken teriyaki which for some reason took so long to be brought to our table. Even the people next to us who got there after us got their food before us. When I finally got my chicken it was cold and hard. And I didn't have utensils. Our server was avoiding us for some reason so we had to walk up to a different employee to ask for some. Our server never came back to bring us our check. We were sitting there for almost 30 minutes after we finished waiting for it to be brought. I used to like this place but I have to say my opinion has changed. I had some tuna the other day and it had some sort of tendon or connective tissue in it that totally grossed me out. Plus the service wasn't very good. Our waitress didn't check back with us very often and we found ourselves sitting there waiting because we didn't want to continue with getting something plus we still hadn't ordered everything. So we had our appetizer finished and than we were just sitting there waiting to order our meal for like 15 min after we finished our appetizer. I used to love eating here, but I choose to eat sushi elsewhere now! It has nothing to do with the quality of the food, but the staff here is horrible! The only good waiter is the bar tender who is usually helping tables that are not his because people have to ask for things because they have been waiting for their own server to make their way back to the table, which seldomly happens! Honestly, I wouldn't get food from here again if they were giving sushi away and it was my job to eat free rolls. I pulled a 6-inch piece of connective tissue from my hand roll and the fish was really old and funky. The ONLY good dishes were the side salad and the sunomono, but, sadly, these two items do not a dinner make. Seriously do yourself a favor and run, don't walk, from this place. read more

There are times when I visit my parents that I have a massive craving for sushi. Naturally, I'd prefer to go to a place nearby and not have to drive out of Gilroy to satisfy this craving. A year ago, my brother, sister, and I ordered about $50+ worth of sushi and chicken teriyaki (my brother wasn't a huuuge sushi fan like my sister and I). I had wished they had more baked type sushi (like lion king or bay scallops, etc.. IDK if they've added more sushi recently) though. As usual she didn't know what she was talking about..at least she was consistent :p If a sushi restaurant can put a slice of fresh fish on a piece of rice it's considered good. Order something a little more complex like a specialty roll and you will really find out if they have culinary skills or a lack thereof. My experience was the later. I love this restaurant so much! The fish is so fresh it's ridiculous. I couldn't find any better sushi restaurant in San Jose so I always go down to Ninja Sushi all the way from West S.J.!!! I think the flavors were spectacular because of the sauces. The chef seems to use a lot of special sauces with healthy ingredients including garlic. I thought that was cool since the City of Gilroy is famous for garlic =). All sushi size is HUGE and all special rolls are just wonderful. Very disappointed. We moved away and two years later the sushi is not the same! The quality and taste is no longer there. The speciality rolls are dressed very sloppy, falling apart and the combinations don't mix well. When a Japanese chef is not present we believe the craftsmanship drops. This used to be one of my favorites Sushi places in the south bay, unfortunately no more. Try other Sushi places around town much better. read more

I'm disappointed in Ninja. I have been bringing my wife and three children here for a few years and have always had a pleasant experience for a fair price. Last night they were out of fountain soda and non alcoholic beer. They were able to find one n/a beer, which they charged us the same price for as a regular beer ($5+) Their prices have also increased significantly, and when we asked if they could serve my 9 year old a bowl of Udon at the lunch portion & rate ($14.99) rather than the dinner rate ($17.99) we were advised that they won't. I am sad to say we will not be back. Good customer service can save a bad meal, but the best food cannot be saved by poor customer service :( That being said, our server was pleasant and did a good job, I believe management can do better and should revisit their pricing options. read more

Really good sushi for the area. They focus on fancy rolls with different combinations and sauces. It can get busy on game nights and service is faster on the bar. There's a lot of seating and a lot of people take food to go as well. Most of the time service is pretty good and prices are fair for what it is. When it gets busy, especially at dinner, service can be a little lax, but if sushi/service balance is generally best in the area. Ninja Sushi is a pretty good Japanese restaurant in Gilroy and got a lot better when they expanded and made the new room into a bar/lounge area. In the past when I'm flying solo, I'd make my way to the Sushi Bar and hang out with Don and Chris. Now, I hang a left to the other bar, order a Gilroy roll, Santa Theresa roll and sashimi appetizer along with a tall glass of Sapporo from Andre and watch a game. read more

The restaurant is nice, clean, and casual. Although there was 3-4 waitresses working, and only 2 other tables, I hardly ever saw them walk by or to check on tables. The only other time I saw one was when she was outside spraying Windex on the windows and wiping them down. Why did I even notice? We sat by the window. My tea came in a mug, which is kind of off-puting. tea is supposed to come in small ceramic cups. You have to fill it more, but at least your tea stays hot. Don't drink tea? Can't relate? Do you like warm beer? My boyfriend and I ordered a few rolls and an order or the vegetable tempura. Sushi wasn't as fresh as it could've been. The texture was a tiny bit off, but it was ok. Mediocre. In the middle of our (late) lunch, the waitress comes by (finally), but not to ask if needed anything, but if we needed anything else because she needed us to pay because her shift was over. She stands there and waits for us to fork over our card, goes to the terminal, then drops off the receipt to sign. She comes and picks it up 20 minutes later. The best part of the meal was probably when I went to the restroom and found that they didn't use that crappy 1-ply paper that some restaurants get.
