This sushi spot has been one of our go to sushi restaurants in town when we first moved here. It's been awhile since the last time we dropped by since new ownership. We finally arrived at Hanami Sushi for a Saturday dinner recently. The sushi restaurant is located in a nice plaza in Morgan Hill. Parking is easy and accessible in the large parking lot. The restaurant has a nice simple, modern decor. There is a sushi boat bar as soon as you walk in. Plenty of tables and booths are available for dine in. The vibe is family friendly. We ordered a 2 item bento box with teriyaki beef and tonkatsu, salmon nigiri, lion king roll, dragon roll, unagi nigiri, and Chardonnay wine. The food was delicious and tasty as usual. The teriyaki beef in my bento box was tender and juicy. Both the lion king roll and dragon roll was fresh and high quality. We enjoyed all the food. Overall our experience at Hanami Sushi was ok that night. The food was good and traditional. Price point of the rolls, nigiri, and wine was reasonably fair. Unfortunately the service was bleh. Our female server never really checked with us at all until she dropped the check at the end. No refill of waters, no greeting in the beginning, no checking in if everything was ok? Had dinner with my family at Hanami Sushi on a Wednesday evening. We had a reservation at 5pm for five people and were seated immediately. The restaurant was pretty empty except for a large group when we arrived, but it was hopping by the time we left. The large group was really loud. I wish we had been seated away from them. I ordered the combination dinner with beef teriyaki and mixed tempura. It was SO good. The shrimp were large and weren't over breaded. The teriyaki beef had such a nice a flavor. I liked the miso soup and salad, too. Others in my family ordered teriyaki salmon, rainbow rolls, and chicken udon along with a side of edamame. We all agreed the food was excellent. The service was good, except at the end when the restaurant got busy. It took a while to get our check and for the waitress to pick up payment, but that's okay. Gave us more time to visit. Run the other way. Garlic Edamame- no garlic. Chili oil. Old. Two spicy and I couldn't eat it. I was still charged for the 2 beans I ate. Yellowtail Nigiri - would not stick to the rice. Rice fell into the soy sauce. Crunch Roll- just not right. Shrimp tempura on top of a roll? The sauce was too sweet and the batter too salty. No plates other than what the sushi comes on. My usuals are Spicy Josh roll and caterpillar roll. The owner retired and, as long time customers, it's sad and weird not to see her talking & serving us. The food still tastes good and the ambiance remains the same. Their prices are pretty average- it's not overpriced. I've personally haven't had to wait 1 hour for food or any type of service. The servers are efficient and friendly. There are new servers but that hasn't affected my wait time or the taste in food. During the pandemic, they stayed open with all of their loyal customers' help because they treat their customers like family. I stopped by on a Friday night around 8:30 PM. There was only one other person waiting in the restaurant. I wanted to order one roll to try, but if you are paying with card there is a 15$ minimum. So I decided to order two rolls to try it out & see what it's all about. I waited a long time for the order to be ready. If you are a sushi lover, this is not the place for you. $23 for two rolls.. very mediocre rolls that taste like Safeway sushi... I ordered the caterpillar roll and rock and roll. I absolutely love hanami every time i go i have to get the lemon crush roll its so good and the salmon is nice and buttery and fatty and dosent taste fishy at all i highly recommend it. i usually order 5-7 lemon crush rolls its so good i cant hold back . i order on the phone and i still get the best costumer service as i would if i was dining in. love this place nice and cozy!! just wish they would give us a party tray since we do order 10-11 rolls per time. read more

The wife wanted Japanese food for dinner on Saturday night. Sushi Confidential is good but is a tad pricey. So we decided to come here. I looked in the window and saw no one sitting anywhere in the front of the restaurant. I told her that an empty restaurant on a Saturday night isn't a good sign. But since she wanted Japanese food I decided to go in. There were indeed people in the restaurant but they were all seated in the back. Not sure why they do this since it makes the establishment look empty. Anyway I perused the menu and saw there wasn't much I was into. I asked if the chicken in their chicken Teriyaki was breast meat. Unfortunately they use thigh meat. So I decided to get the Beef Udon. When the food arrived the broth for the soup was pretty much clear and the beef appeared to have just been boiled in the broth. Everything was pretty much tasteless. I had a few bites but that was enough for me. It just wasn't worth eating. The next time the waitress came by I told her the food was no good and she asked if I would like something else. I ordered a very simple avocado roll and a California roll, both of which I loved, although I did prefer the avocado roll a little more. I also appreciated that the menu had several vegan and vegetarian options, from rolls to noodles to curries. I enjoyed the service and the ambiance quite a bit. Hanami Sushi used to be a favorite spot, but since the new ownership, it's gone downhill. We decided to give it another chance on Sunday at 12:30 PM, and right from the start, the service was awful. No one greeted us when we walked in, and even though the chef saw us, he didn't acknowledge us or call someone to seat us. We waited nearly five minutes before realizing there was only one server handling everything--taking orders, cleaning tables, and serving food. On a Sunday at 12:30 PM, that's just crazy! I get that being short-staffed is tough, but the server looked irritated the whole time, making us feel unwelcome. This is our go to sushi place. Always impeccably clean and efficient with great service. The fish is always fresh and nicely cut, the rice is seasoned nicely. I will not eat sushi where the rice isn't seasoned well or the fish is cut in a in uncaring slab, so Hanami really shines through. Their other dishes like agedashi tofu and cooked scallops are delicious too. They are always very consistent in service and food quality. I really appreciate that for sushi! read more

It started out ok. Seated quick, waitress was nice, attentive. Atmosphere's nice. I asked how many pieces of fish came in the chirashi bowl. Specifically said "of fish", mind you. The waitress didnt know, but the asian boss lady passing by heard me, piped up and told me 10. The bowl came out, it was 6 pieces of fish + 2 imitation crab + 2 tamago + 1 eel. I guess that means they consider egg omelette to be a type of fish. The fish quality and freshness were about what I'd expect from any small town sushi joint. Between the deceptiveness, lack of fish, too much rice, ugly presentation (could've overlooked presentation, if the bowl had more fish or wasn't priced at $23...see my other reviews, for examples of what chirashi in the $20-25 range is supposed to look like), ugly tamago, barebones salad, and then a 20 minute wait after I was done eating for the check to arrive (!! 20 minutes!!)...nuff said. 6 pieces of fish at a non-high-end sushi place for $23 is a ripoff, especially for the overall poor dining experience. Had a nice dinner here with my sis last week. She had the Salmon Skin Salad with a delicious ponzu sauce, and I had the Tuna Poke Salad. I was expecting soy sauce, sesame oil, and nori (seaweed wrapper bits) but it tasted like plain tuna sashimi. The tuna was fresh but didn't satisfy my poke craving. The CA rolls and Spider Roll were great, no complaints. The manager kindly gave us the secret ingredient in the ponzu sauce - Shichimi Togarashi (Assorted Chili Pepper). Thanks for sharing - will now buy this spice on Amazon! I'd return just for the Salmon Skin Salad. Reminded me of chicharrones, but healthier. So yummy! read more
