We happen to be in Gilroy after doing a couple of errands in the area and we were now looking for a restaurant to eat at. We decided to eat at Ninja Sushi since we ate there once a long time ago probably like 14 years ago. We arrived there on a Saturday late afternoon for a late lunch . The sushi restaurant is located off of 1st street in an older plaza in Gilroy. Nob Hills is in the same plaza. Parking is accessible in the large parking lot out front. Ninja Sushi has clean sleek modern decor. The restaurant is divided into two spacious rooms. In the larger room it's family friendly where the sushi bar, tables, and booths are at for dine in. The other room consists of the full bar with plenty of high chairs. Both rooms look inviting. We ordered the Wonderful sushi roll, two sake nigiri, steamed gyoza, Garlic roll, Star roll, large hazy IPA beer and a glass of Chardonnay. Everything was tasty but nothing special. The Wonderful was flavorful and I enjoyed the little scallops. The gyoza was steamed which made it taste more succulent. Star roll was scrumptious with every bite. Overall we enjoyed our experience at Ninja Sushi. The staff were nice and accommodating. There was a local favorite vibe going on. My one huge gripe though I had was the price point particularly the bento boxes and the special rolls were more pricier than I expected. Since the restaurant is located in Gilroy I expected the price point to be much more fair and on par with the sushi restaurants in Morgan Hill. Reviewing after trying this spot under new ownership! The owner was very kind. She spoke with myself and my mom, asking about how the food was after we had finished. The servers were friendly but a bit slow in regard to requests unfortunately. The restaurant was clean but a bit dark during our visit. As for the food, the sushi rolls were good but nothing special. My mom unfortunately didn't enjoy the sukiyaki and found the flavor wasn't quite as strong as others she has tried. Overall, I would it here again but I'm not sure I'd go out of my way for it. Especially since I don't live in the Gilroy area. If you haven't tried it yet, I would definitely give it a chance! read more

'll admit it right off the bat: fish is not my jam, Joke that the only fish I like are Swedish (fish). We were meeting family here, and apparently they all have more adventurous taste buds than I do. Luckily, there were a few things on the menu that didn't swim recently. I went for the gyoza and the karaage chicken. The gyoza were solid, and the karaage chicken came out like it was feeding a football team,it was a mountain of crispy, goodness. I had to do that awkward "oh no I couldn't possibly eat all of this" speech while secretly feeling victorious- and I shared the wealth. Came in Friday night place was hopping, got a seat at the sushi bar. They have the Freshest sashimi melts in your moth like butter, the octopus is so fresh. If I could give less than 1 star I would. Never coming back. My family and I are from Monterey and used to make it a point to eat at this location any time we were up in this neck of the woods. Two months ago we came and my eldest complained that it wasn't as good as usual. I thought it was just him. I was wrong. This visit my wife and I were in out for a date night. We ordered 4 rolls. What we noticed: The crawfish salad (main ingredient in one of the rolls) tasted off. Another had crab salad (like in California rolls) and it was very mayo heavy to the point you that was all you could taste in the bite! The other 2 rolls were decent - nothing to write home about. However the other thing I noticed. The chef preparing the food walked out and grabbed a menu for some patrons that sat down. With the same gloves he was preparing the food with! Credit where credit is due - he changed gloves after handing the two gentlemen the menus. The service was good - but again with the amount of times we've been here over the years we also noticed that there was only one server/hostess (owner I'm guessing) and one chef (from other reviews I'm guessing the other owner). For a Saturday around 3 there was only about 5 other tables occupied. Here's the final part and why I would rate less than 1 star. My wife stopped eating about halfway thru one roll. I ate my two and some of hers. We went to Walmart for some light shopping. By the time we went across town she wasn't feeling too well. Half way thru shopping I found myself seeing my dinner a second time. $120 literally down the drain. read more

We went here for lunch to check out changes with the new owners. A good variety menu and enjoyed the food. Very nice lady that took our order. The floor smells of bleach which hits you hard when you walk in. It wasn't appetizing but I guess it's a good sign they cleaned. read more

Ninja sushi was the only place in Gilroy to get real Japanese food, I raised my Daughter on their food . I worked late so i decided to pick something up to take home , now I can't believe what I got when i ordered a simple Teriyaki Chicken Bowl .The chicken was either cooked in a microwave or boiled with NO seasoning at all NONE! the rice wasn't any better it was flavorless and just a thin layer under the terrible tasting chicken with some sesame seeds scattered on top I'm so disappointed , I hear it's under new ownership so I guess this is what to expect here, if the rice bowl is bad I can't imagine eating raw fish here . Stopped in on a Thursday afternoon for a lunch date with my kids. The place was clean, but I was surprised to find a full bar on one side of the restaurant. Despite the bar, and a handful of people there drinking, it was unusually quiet the entire time. My son recommended and ordered the salmon sashimi dinner. I followed suit, and my daughter ordered the chicken katsu bento box. Miso soup and salads came out quickly and were both delicious. The main dishes came out and everyone was happy with their meals. The amount and thickness of the sashimi was crazy and extraordinarily fresh. I was so surprised to find a legit and reasonably priced spot in Gilroy. read more

The first time I came here it was gross b/c the Ninja Roll was loaded with way too much cream cheese, so I pushed it out, and it was a mess. I will be not returning here after over 10 plus years. They must have changed chefs because the preparation is way different than how they used to do it 2-3 years ago. They would dress the Salmon Skin roll with sprouts in it and just a sliver of avocado, but now it's packed with avocado (if I wanted a California roll, would have just ordered that), and barely any wasabi and ginger. Omg what a bad night for Ninja Sushi. We were seated at 7:20pm by 8:25 we had received one appetizer and our drinks. We were asked once if "we were doing ok" we inquired about our other appetizer and were told it was coming, that "gyoza took awhile." At 8:45 some sushi came out, but 2 items were still missing. I got up, asked about the sushi and was told "oh it's sitting right here!" And handed it to me off the counter. I asked to speak to the manager. I explained our wait time etc... she said sorry and that she would check the kitchen for our food. By 9:00pm no food. So I got up again, and paid the bill. No apology from the manager, no offer to reduce our bill, or any other follow up. Just poor form all around. The fish was decent. Some of the sushi rice was crunchy and underdone. Sadly the table next to us included a 10 yo girl whose family waited so long for their food, she fell asleep at the table, and won't have dinner tonight. Came here for dinner on a Friday evening. The place was buzzing even at 5:30 pm, luckily we got seated in under 10 minutes. The restaurant itself has a sports bar feel, with ample seating.The restroom was clean and well stocked. Our server Monica was awesome! Personable and attentive. She warned us that the kitchen was backed up and food may take a little longer to be prepared. The wait was really long, and they got one of our orders wrong, but the waiter caught it right away and made sure we were not charged for it. She also went ahead and offered a free drink. Food we ordered Karage chicken appetizer , fresh light and flavorful Ninja special rolls - Ry Ry and Eagle ridge , both were delicious Drinks - old fashioned and passion fruit Mai tai - pretty good I'm still giving this place a 4 star, in the spirit of great customer service, and for the genuine effort from the waiter and the owner to make things right. Have been coming here for over 10 years and NEVER fails to disappoint! Recently got here on a Friday night, and it was bustling and booming. First sign that they will ALWAYS have fresh food and fish. Service is amazing with attentive care from staff and people from the sushi bar - you can strike a convo so easily with each one of them as they prep your food despite it being so hectic. The place is super clean, and before being seated, we saw how the workers bussed and cleaned efficiently, sanitizing the table thoroughly and setting up the table with care. Got a few rolls and sashimi, and each bite was heavenly and with such fresh ingredients. Let's say that you don't like raw fish, they also have lot of hot plate entree options as well that are also fantastic! Ask for their new Pink Flamingo! It is such a fun a cocktail, highly recommend! Not wild at ALL about the sushi rolls I ordered here. I got the Kelly Roll and the tempura was way too "bready". The filling was mediocre. And the size of them were uncomfortably too large. It made it very difficult to eat. I doubt I'll be coming back here. Especially because it's a little bit out of my way and being in Gilroy. In the future I'd probably choose a different place to have sushi. That's how turned off I was by that roll. However, the service was good. They were friendly. They were a bit slow to get us our food. But it wasn't unbearable. The only thing we liked here were their pre-packaged should macaron ice cream sandwiches. read more

Our first time here yesterday. And we are SO GLAD we went! We think it was the owner who greeted us, she was elegant and very kind. Offered the perfect table to best suit our baby car seat and ourselves. I don't know the name of the waiter or hostess' but they were so awesome. So kind, helpful and accommodating for our toddler and newborn. Brought hot water to warm a bottle, offered sauce on the side for our toddlers food before sending it through and thank goodness he did! Because we didn't think about it at first. We asked for a roll recommendation and he asked our preference and hit the nail on the head with his recommendation. We were in LOVE with it. We also got a combination sashimi dinner the fish was so fresh. All of it. My husband and I love sushi and haven't had sushi that good in a years. The place was very clean. The bathroom was beautiful and clean! We had an amazing experience. The cherry on top of our experience was, the woman at the table next to us surprise paid for half of our bill she didn't speak to us, nothing! She just payed it forward and the waiter told us at the end. We didn't have much cash on us but we passed on everything we had to the next table we could.. if we could eat sushi everyday, we would!
