We had diner here on a Saturday night and it wasn't overly busy and not sure why. We started with the blue cheese fries and they were so yummy and they were hot when they arrived at the table. For entrees, I had the Grandpa salad and the other person in my party had the chicken breast. Both portions were very large and delicious. For desert, we got the cinnamon gelato and it had full flavor and so creamy. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a nice evening out. read more

This is my favorite restaurant in Laguna. We go for special occasions because I love it, but it is a bit pricey for everyday. They do have a good happy hour though so I think we will come more often for Happy hour! Just enjoyed the new Fall menu. I recommend everything, but the Butternut & Kobacha Squash Risotto with Pan Seared Scallops was my favorite. I also loved the Trio of Greens Salad, Raclette Cheese Fondue, prawns, and mushroom ravioli. Desserts are delicious too. This time I had the chocolate pecan pie. Nice end to a perfect dinner! We will NOT be back. Living in the area for over 5 years, I decided to give this place a try and made reservation for my family of 4. After we were seated, and started to order, we find out that on their already limited menu, one of the mains was not available due to shortage. So we order alternative main and after 15 minutes waiter comes back to inform that the other 2 main we ordered is also not available. Say what? How is that, its only 8 o'clock and 3 entres out of 6 are no longer on the menu for the night. What a disappointment!!!! We just got up, paid for our drinks and garlic bread and left. Thankfully our favorite Italian place, Olivers Osteria, had availability in 15 mintutes, otherwise I would not hear the end of it from my dearest fam. read more

Made a reservation on Open Table for restaurant week and inked it in for the last slot available. The restaurant is tiny inside and was quite crowded. The tables are stacked pretty close to each other and u will most likely be in tune for the conversation of the tables next to you. If you don't mind the tight squeeze then it's all good. Started off with the prix fixe menu choice of spinach salad with bacon, goat cheese and fried leeks. Great combination and a very tasty salad. Next up was the bouillabaisse filled salmon, clams, mussels and one large shrimp. The sauce was tasty and great for bread dipping. We brought our own bottle of wine and the corkage was $20. For dessert I opted for the pumpkin pie cheesecake in a jar. Very tasty with a nice, light, creamy layer of whipped mousse on top. I thought it was a bit odd to have pumpkin on the menu for spring. Tasty and delicious nonetheless. Next week they are debuting some new dishes at 50% off, so I may swing in and try a few of those offerings. We live in town an thought we would give Nirvana another shot at getting it right and they failed again. It's Saturday night, we are a party of two the restaurant is not even half full. We wait a bit to be greeted as the server is also the hostess. She contemplates not to give us our desired booth then decides it's ok but forgets to give us menus. We flagged her down and it just went down hill from there. She not only had a horrible attitude when taking our order, but forgot my drink. She let our food sit under the lamp for longer than we wanted to watch it sit there. She was too busy trying to help everyone and move tables around etc. the kicker was the automatic 18% gratuity added to your bill and then asking for more while standing there holding the iPad. It all came into focus. She didn't need to give good service because she knew she was getting an 18% tip. At least they took off the automatic $5.00 Covid fee from the last time we visited. We really wanted to add this restaurant to our list of regulars bc the food is good, but the poor service is a turn off. If she would have had a piece of humble pie, and at least apologize for the poor service, it would have gone a long way. read more

So glad I randomly found this place while staying in Laguna for the weekend. We showed up a little late at night and were informed they weren't serving their full menu anymore at that time. We decided to leave, as we had come there for a full dinner. As we were googling somewhere else to go with walking distance (we had already paid for 2 hours on the parking meter) we were approached by the waitress Kierra who was going to serve us before we apologetically left... she said she had gotten it okayed by her boss to be able to serve us a full dinner! I am SO glad that worked out! The food was PHENOMENAL. Honestly the best meal I think I've ever eaten. Beautifully plated, perfect portions, so delicious. My sister had ordered the wild mushroom ravioli and herb crusted scallops as appetizers... I don't even like mushrooms... but those ravioli's almost changed my mind! They were SO good! The seafood was cooked to perfection, I mean melts in your mouth. The service was excellent, and the ambiance was laid back and classy at the same time. The very pleasant server took her time to take our order & then processed to screw it up. I ordered a small plate sized scallop dish which should have been three scallops; instead she brought an appetizer size with only one. It was very tasty but not fulfilling. Fortunately the fish appetizer was adequate in quantity, so along with a couple of pieces of bread & a very good glass of vermentino, I was adequately nourished. All you could taste was the salt, I had to scrape off the surface macadamia nuts to try and get rid of some of the salt. I made a last minute reservation via OpenTable for this place for a Friday night. We were greeted by a very nice lady and were able to seat a few minutes after arrival. The restaurant is fairly small and there were serving restaurant week menu (3 course for $40). They serve warm bread with butter which was nice. We both ordered the mushroom ravioli as a started, cioppino for dinner and trio ice cream for dessert. All plates had really good portion sizes but I must say that I had a more memorable cioppino at King's fish house! The service is where this restaurant lacked so much! The service was SUPER slow! The new coffee bar Cuppa Sunshine (@LagunaCuppaSunshine) inside Nirvana is amazing. Top quality specialty coffee crafted by super nice baristas that know their craft and have fun while doing it. They have awesome alternative milks including Tache pistachio milk and Good Mylk almond milk. Both incredible. They serve local roasted coffee by @JedidiahCoffee and also have a rotating roaster for those that like to try different coffees There's a rooftop, small marketplace, coffee retail, board games, PARKING and amazing breakfast and lunch. Breakfast tacos are a MUST try. Chef Lindsay is also now making beautiful reclaimed wood charcuterie boards. Nirvana has stepped it up adding all these new goodies of the highest quality. Wonderful service for happy hour! We ordered sweet potato fries, mushroom and spinach salad and the stuffed poblano. Everything was wonderfully tasty....the thing that makes you go mmmmm the minute it hits your tongue and then each additional bite makes you say mmmmm again until it's gone. The sweet tater fry sauce can use a bit more umph; i suggest harissa my margarita on the rocks was just right and my friend had 2 glasses of house merlot so i guess it was very good too! can't wait to return! read more

The food was okay, nothing special. We didn't get one of the dishes we ordered, it was never entered and there's no server's to check on you. Then you pay at the counter. So lets start by saying,ive read the reviews about this place and i can admit, it seems like maybe everyone had a personal expectations of this place. This is an mid/mom and pop/upscale restaurant. (Let me explain) They serve clean organic,hormones free, natural food ingredients(ex.wholefoods all the stuff we should be eating but cant afford to try, unless someone else already knows its good) they cook for you the way they cook for there own family. They use very light seasoning aka Californian style because the ingredients themselves is suppose to shine aka the steak that is free range or the veggies that was picked this morning. (Mom and pop) The upscale part is because of the location and the styling of the restaurant you get this boutique feel to it. This is not a chain restaurant like BJs around the corner or Nicks or Avila's. So they dont have 30 waiter's for you to take your sweet time to talk and text and do everything but look at the menu and then when you finally do stop everything to take your order. Remember its 4 waiters to i counted 20 tables not including the bar or the table top thing in the middle. So thats 5 tables per waiter and thats a minimum of 4people per table. Trying to time that with the kitchen so your food comes out not only hot but with the rest of the tables food is hard. The mid is price okay, i dont know any restaurant that serves filet mignon and fried(good)fried chicken i might add and has a groupon available sometimes that you gone get out for less that 75$. If you cant afford it then maybe you need to go to chillis or Applebees or TGI FRIDAY one them first date as a teenager/young adult places. Also i had Enrique as a server and yes he does disapper because he is the lead waiter or the setup the others come and supported him. We orderd the chile relano, 2 entrees both steakes and 2 drinks one alcoholic and 2 desserts and came out under 150$ with tip soooooo. So grateful to have found Nirvana Grille in the last month. Their Thanksgiving to-go was phenomenal. Who typically enjoys turkey during Thanksgiving? This year we truly did; it was flavorful, juicy, and all around drool-worthy. So when we had family come to town this week who are vegetarian, we could think of no other more wholesome holiday to-go experience than Nirvana Grille Events. What a neat find in the heart of Laguna Beach. We visited Nirvana Grille on a Thursday evening and the restaurant was pretty busy. They offer a happy hour at the bar. We sampled a few small plates and a salad and all were excellent. I particularly enjoyed the stuffed poblano pepper. While the food was tasty, and the menu enticing, what really brings Nirvana to five stars is their exceptional service. We called ahead to make a reservation and the staff was accommodating when we arrived early. The servers were patient, insightful, and kind. We'd heard of this place for years and were excited to finally try it. We believed it would be natural and healthy, fancy and chef-driven cuisine. We were wrong. The waiter was nice but new ... and the organization of the service was a disaster. But we'd take the kind waiter over the food selection any day, as the service was manageable and we knew the waiter tried. Now, I'm sure it's a lot of money to have a restaurant in Laguna but if you're charging $30 or $40 + a plate, then please at least have the kitchen produce a delicious end result. The menu had few options and when our son spilled his water we waited 5 minutes before anyone came to help us. We ordered two veggie burgers and they came with no bun, which wasn't clear by the name alone (as the description did not specify). My wife got the pork loin and, while that was fine, her asparagus was sitting in a pool of oil and tasted burnt. The potatoes were meh, a bit flavorless but manageable. We had to return her first glass of wine as it tasted rancid and like it was old. I don't drink wine but confirmed it's rancid aroma. The wedge salad looked attractive but the dressing wasn't flavored well and the lettuce a little limp. We also ordered filet mignon which was okay, in parts, but tough overall. The only good thing was the French fries. The French fries on the kid's meal and accompanying the veggie burgers were okay and had a good seasoning. Otherwise, you'll go here and eat a VERY rich meal that is rich in price but not a good choice. We are very disappointed and won't be back. We really thought we'd love it here! Oh, another thing! We are empathetic about prices of heating equipment but the heater they brought near our kids was NOT safe. Management: Please invest in a safe heater. Revisit your goddess dressing's flavor (shudder), cut down on the grease on your veggies, and watch that your meat is cooked well. Buckle up...this is going to be a long one! ;) My friends and I had tickets for the Pageant and wanted to have dinner beforehand - we had three places narrowed down and chose Nirvana. We made reservations for 6:15pm on Saturday 7/10. It was VERY crowded in Laguna and we were about 15 min late due to limited parking. I called Nirvana to let them know and the hostess was very understanding and held our table (she was very sweet and helpful during our time there). I arrived to the restaurant first and then my friends joined a few minutes later. The environment was nice and we had a good table. Our waiter was Sye - we did not know that until we asked the hostess for his name at the end of our meal. This rating is about his service - it was terrible. We were so disappointed. He didn't come to our table for at least 15 minutes after my friends showed up, then got pulled away to go fix something and we sat there again for about another 10 minutes. When he came back, we asked what the timing would be on food since we had a show to catch at 8:30pm. He said small plates and salads would be best, and two of us wanted filet mignon and he said it would be ok if we got it medium rare. We had 1 1/2 hours until the show...I wanted my steak medium well so that is what I ordered. My friend ordered the same only with a medium filet. The food came out at a reasonable time with consideration to the busy night and with plenty of time to spare to get to the show (maybe he could gauge timing better = better for sales). I asked if they had bread to munch on while we were waiting for our meals and he advised they don't, but they do have cheesy bread which sounded delicious, but we decided not to get that. A while had gone by and I was getting a little woozy and needed to nibble on something. We were seated next to the bar and I saw olives - I asked a gal who was training with Sye if I could please have a few olives. I understand they are for drinks, but again I needed 'something.' Sye came over with a distressed look on his face and asked who wanted the olives - he told me they have two kinds and I selected regular, he asked how many and I said a few. He put 3 on a cocktail pick and just handed them to me from his fingertips to mine over the bar - no napkin, no little plate or glass...not very sanitary and just awkward. When we received our food, he was standing by the bar with two other people and asked how everything was...he should've been standing at our table asking. My friends weren't interested in answering him so I answered that my steak was great, cooked perfectly, but my salad was so so. I had the Nirvana Romaine Wedge, which was not a wedge and it had the green goddess dressing, but no other blue cheese in it like it says on the menu - my friends salad didn't either. He looked at me like I was being a crazed customer asking for the blue cheese. I told him the blue cheese wasn't on there and he replied they make their own blue cheese. ?? Then why wasn't it on the salad? So he blurted out to someone to have the chef get blue cheese crumbles (he was clearly annoyed). When he brought the blue cheese back he reached over my friend's shoulder, close to her face to hand it across the table to me. ?? He never checked on us again after that - we had to ask for our bill and I asked if he could break out the bill so that we could each pay for our own meals - he was not pleased about that and said yes, and then said 'shit'. What? He did ask if we wanted anything else and we did want dessert, but didn't dare ask for it because we just wanted to leave. Now, in fairness he was busy and training someone else...we completely understood that, but still he needs to be friendly, accommodating, approachable....WITHOUT attitude, without saying 'shit' and other things under his breath. I'm in a service based industry and we would be walked out the door for that kind of behavior. Nirvana is a nice restaurant and the service should absolutely stand out. I dislike writing these types of reviews, but he was awful. Again, we understand busy, having technical difficulties, having to train, BUT he still needs to have more decorum and definitely follow sanitary procedures, have friendly manners and treat guests well. He didn't ruin our night, but sure put a damper on it! I hope you can use this review to re-educate him on what great service needs to be regardless of what's happening within the restaurant. One of the best dinning experiences! I got - Grilled scallops with mash: 5 star! Lots of places make scallops very salty (including some $$$$ ones) but this one was perfectly seasoned. Scallops was very fresh and hacharred taste from the grill goes nicely with mash. Butternut squash risotto: 4 star. The dish is tasty but the entire dish taste the same :) wish there are varieties in the flavors. My friend got Rosted chicken: 5 star. Probably the best chicken I've had. We came here just for coffee from the Bliss Bar. I ordered three of the Matcha Foam Cold Brews. They were horrible! They tasted like extremely watered down coffee. Just terrible. The three of us unanimously agreed that the drinks were terrible and all three of us ended up having to toss them out. It was outrageously expensive for such poor quality coffee as it cost a total of $18.86 for 3 cold brews. I don't know how their restaurant is but I'd stay away from the coffee bar. 3.5 stars Came here with some friends one night for dinner. Since we didn't have a reservation, we went up to the patio and it was free for all, first come first serve up there. Since some in our party wanted a table -- we were seated at bar stools and high tables at first -- we waited until one became available and moved over. Space heaters kept those of us needing more warmth toasty, while the cold blooded person -- namely, ME -- sat at the far side of the heat lamps. Our server of the night was chatty, sometimes intruding into our conversation he had eavesdropped on. It was okay seeing no one really minded. We all started with the soup of the day/night, the roasted corn chowder. I had jokingly asked our server if it would be served piping hot to which he replied no it's a cold soup -- sarcastically -- but then when it was served, it wasn't exactly scorchingly hot, but rather, a little hotter than average. I would've liked it to have been hotter in temperature but it was fine. Flavor-wise it was pretty good, very flavorful, a little too much potato for me, but otherwise, very enjoyable. I got the cioppino for my main course, this DID arrive piping hot! It had a bunch of clams, mussels, shrimp and 2 types of fish. I was able to detect that one was sea bass, but the other white fish was very light-tasting so I couldn't decipher what it was -- halibut perhaps? I'm not a huge fan of mussels so I left that. The rest of the dish was very good -- not SF cioppino, but still good. It is served with 2 slices of French bread bruschetta-style topped with butter and garlic. Our whole evening was very enjoyable, but moreso due to the company rather than the food. In terms of the food, I thought it was good, no WOW-factor, just good. Would I return again? Sure! If someone decided they wanted to come here. For me, there are other places in Laguna Beach I've yet to try, so those take precedence over Nirvana Grille I think. read more

Love the windows and the plates on the back wall and the other decor. Love the staff as well. They are friendly, inquisitive, and really want to make sure your customers are happy. Your food is also really good. The dishes have a unique style to them. For example the sweet potato fries, lightly salted, just a little crispy, with cinnamon - really good! And the sea bass is light, flaky and very savory. All the essentials right. So why not a 5? Here is how my five could be earned: First, allow your staff the discretion to wave the meal split charge when it makes sense. For example, when a couple orders a $75 dollar bottle of wine and a starter and a salad you don't need to nickel and dime them. Second, no one likes fake candies except the local fire marshal. And he probably doesn't tip well anyway! ( okay I have a thing for real candles). Lastly, milk is not fresh when little bits are floating in your coffee. Even if the date on the milk carton says so. Had a lovely experience with a party of 7. The adjacent valet parking is $10/$20 if you stay for Pageant of the Masters. This place is SMALL. 3 bar stools... for their popular HH. Reservations are recommended. The food was delicious. Everyone had something different and no one wanted to share! Check in on YELP for 20% off food. Be sure to present early in before the check is presented as a courtesy to your wait staff. I mentioned it mistakenly to the busboy and it wasn't relayed to our server. He was gracious to encourage saving it for next time... and redid it when we insisted. We aren't local and came for the Pageant of the Masters. 2 block or so walk less than 10 min. Parking is free after 6:30... this place is only open until 9. Small plates have a generous helping. Family size salad fed 6 for a side salad.
