    Sushi and Sashimi Lover Lunch
    Corie Y.

Nice little spot for a good lunch special! This place is cute and bright inside, it's nice and modern. A friend and I stopped in for lunch before doing some shopping in the plaza. We both went for lunch specials and a kani salad. I went for a sushi and sashimi lover lunch special ($16) which came with miso soup and salad. She got the two roll combo ($12). These lunches were a steal and everything was pretty good. Service was good. A very average lunch for a great deal. I didn't find it to be anything over the top or special, but totally a good place to stop by for lunch while shopping in the plaza.

I've ordered takeout several times, but dining in at the restaurant for the first time was a great experience. The place was spotless, and the atmosphere was so enjoyable. The food was fantastic! I highly recommend it.

The food was honestly better than we expected, not having done a ton of research going in. I was surprised by the tuna specifically as well as the sweet shrimp ($8 for a pair isn't bad). Overall, the prices are a little higher than I would prefer, but everyone was so kind and the service was wonderful. There are lots of pictures of the interior, but if feels like you're in a little neon ocean.

Sawa is really great! Great food. Great value. Great addition to Glenmont. Service needs a little polishing and improvement. The Lunch specials from 11-3 pm are really great value for price and good portion. Each part of the meal tasted great and left me wanting more. The iced tea is great, too. Unfortunately on 1 visit my soup came out cold, but I think it was an isolated occurrence, since I've been 3 times and have been happy overall. The unsweetened iced tea is so good, probably my favorite around.

Always happy with the food, and usually a Monday or Tuesday I stop in. Much quieter than most nights I stop Bout this time. Ordered a Sapporo And shortly after two hand rolls. Enjoyed m6y wait with my beer, and since si quiet, wondered where my two hand rolls were. About that time another group of three had bellied up ro the bar and nearly were known by thw operators, to thw point they now got a special appetizer ara there seats , and i still had not been attended to by the sushii chefs who had mad made NO rolls while i was waiting. I'll go back to Akira and the food is good and the shirty service is made up far. Cheers hope this customer's made it worth your age. . Zerostars.

Yay! A winner in Glenmont! First - lovvvve the decor and atmosphere. Great lighting, colors, comfortable seating, beautiful bar. Friendly, efficient service. Then a great menu - something for everyone! From Thai, Chinese and Japanese dishes to awesome sushi - and a great cocktail menu. Everything we had was delicious and expertly prepared. Presentation on sushi was stunning. So many reasons to come back!!

Finally, Friday lunch! I was happy to find I could once again sit at the sushi bar of a US sushi restaurant- it's been over a year since Masa in Columbus Circle. But it would be unfair to compare Sawa to any but local Capital region restaurants, especially after all the changes in the last 18 months. This brand new restaurant in a strip mall is off to a good start, with relatively muted sea-blue-green décor, with 2 giant flat-screen sports TVs facing the 15-seat bar (more full bar than sushi bar), and additional seating in another dozen or so booths. The 50-wine-bottle wall display, disappointingly, did not highlight any sake, although warm sake was available from a 10L box / dispenser/heater machine. The host/ server was polite and helpful, but most of my interaction was with the chefs. Unfortunately, toro is only available on weekends. So, I ordered a selection of maki and nigiri, to allow the chefs to demonstrate their abilities. After receiving the order, one chef prepared me a quick amuse-bouche of shredded surimi atop asparagus and covered with fired salmon. Not bad, but a little unwieldy for just a single bite, once the server brought me a cloth napkin, fork and disposable hashi. Surprisingly, neither the server nor the chef suggested sake with my relatively large order. I assume the paper napkins were reserved for the "Lunch Special Only" crowd. The miso soup and iceberg salad, standard fare for a lunch special, were unremarkable. For the main, the 10 nigiri and two maki were well presented, except the saba and unagi seemed a bit uneven (photo). The remainder were very good: the hotate and hirame, and tamago, the classic method to evaluate a chef. The two simple makis were part of a lunch special, but well prepared. I was eating at the sushi bar, but I was only able to have a few words with the three chefs, as they were quickly and efficiently plating their preparations, and easily outpacing the servers - at one point seven beautiful plates sat atop the sushi cooler, waiting to be served (photo). For a restaurant that was only 25% full, this surprised me, but they are only in their second month. Sawa is still in the process of ironing out a few small problems, and it appears that will be done very soon. I'll have to return soon. 2021 12 24. S22.

Great food! My family loves coming here. The employees are friendly and attentive. Would definitely recommend this place if you like Sushi. The Thai Curry dishes are great to. Personal favorite is the Beef in either red or yellow curry.

It's was quite slow, staff promptly greeted us, and we were able to secure a hibachi table and chef right away. Our hibachi chef was friendly and talented, but we couldn't understand anything he was saying because he had a mask on; hopefully he was well, or being cautious? Our server wasn't much for conversation, she was slow to refill drinks, and we had a mistake with our meal, that seemed like it would have been too much trouble to wave her down and have them fix. Four of us had Hibachi and Nancy ordered two sushi rolls. One of her rolls was a spicy tuna ($7.50) and the other was supposed to be a tempura fried shrimp roll instead of bringing out the tempura roll they brought her a California roll ($6.50). Not the end of the world but something to note. Both rolls were good but I would probably go with an upgraded roll (Chef Special) if I were to return. For some reason I always get The short end of the stick when I eat at a hibachi restaurant. Its like they always give me a ton of rice and give a 1/3 of my meat to everyone else. Same thing happened here. I ordered the steak and shrimp ($28.95) and my buddy next to me got a ton of shrimp and his kids got most of the steak. I think next time I do this I'm going to tell them to cook mine separately in butter so this can't happen again, so annoying. The hibach was good and our experience was overall good. I would come back again but I think I'll come with a better game plan if ordering hibachi.

Then came the pineapple fried rice with pork belly. Savory, caramelized pork belly met bright bursts of pineapple in a perfect sweet-salt balance. Fluffy rice studded with peas, carrots, and ribbons of egg. My three year old son dove in without hesitation, happily scooping forkfuls of rice and pineapple like he had discovered treasure. No negotiations. Just joy. Fifteen minutes later, box in hand, the real event began. Across melting ice. A sharp jaywalk. A cut through the gas station. A full sprint toward the train station as the gates threatened to close and my family waited. It was an unofficial, record-breaking mile fueled entirely by fried rice ambition. Once the cold air finally left my lungs, I cracked open the box. Steam rose into the winter air. The smell alone was victory. I ate every last grain on that train, a triumphant feast earned the hard way. My wife was not impressed with how close I cut it. I, however, stand by the decision. Some meals are worth the sprint.

A tea leaf salad or Lat phat thoat has "Crispy pea, peanut, sesame seed and garlic oil with ground pickle tea leaf, cabbage and tomato." It was a little funky, a bit like kimchi, with a wonderful textural crunch provided by the peanuts. Palata (deep fried layered & flattened dough), commonly served at street food stalls, is reminiscent of scallion pancakes (without the scallion). In this case, it was served with a chicken, potato, and dahl stew. The saltiness of the stew was tamed by the layered and fatty dough. I might skip the chicken dumplings because those were boiled from frozen, store bought items. The pandan dessert, similar to a bubble tea, was an added extra. I'd definitely go again.

I came on a very blustery Saturday night and it was quiet inside, and freezing. It was about 55° in the dining area and our server couldn't care less. Everyone was bundled up at their table. Honestly, we should have left. The server was very slow to welcome us at the table and take our drink orders, but when they arrived, they were great. The cocktails were large and strong, I loved my dirty martinis and the aviation. Excellent drinks. The appetizer round fell flat and felt so overpriced. The French onion soup was what I was most excited about, however it was not soup. It was soggy bread covered with cheese. I don't know what happened, but the crouton added to this must have been the size of the whole bowl. There was no soup. It was a good flavor but, not what I wanted or expected. The calamari looked like it could have came from any hotel restaurant, pass. The lobster fries, which I saw online, were sad with a tiny portion of over cooked lobster, they weren't even served with a sauce. On to the entrees, we ordered the clam sauce (fish special), a build your own burger, and the duck gnocchi. My sister enjoyed her clams, and the burger looked great. I ordered the duck gnocchi and I was just shocked at the tiny dish. It was not as described on the menu, it was 4 slices of duck, 10 fried gnocchi, spinach and few mushroom floating in an overly salty brown butter. I ate the duck off the dish and told the server that this was not what I thought I was ordering. If it tasted delicious I would of course look past other things, but it was inedible. There was nothing to balance from the heavy butter and salt on the dish. I am really sad to write this review. I can't even say it was an off night, because the owner was there.
