After a long day, my family wanted to eat and we wanted to have a plant based meal. Our visit cemented Sushi Na-Ra as one of my favorite places to eat. We had assorted veggie rolls and dumplings. The kimchi dumplings were soooooo good, I returned a few days later and ordered 20 for a gathering. Both times, I failed to photograph then. Simplicity is a beautiful thing. So is wild and creative. You can experience both here at Sushi Na Ra. This is a very small restaurant but they do have a private room for small groups. There is some serious girl power going on here. The sushi chefs are all female. They do a wonderful job. They provide substantial slices of Nigiri Sushi. The spicy tuna, crab salad and spicy scallop are outstanding. They have some very creative rolls and offer choice cuts like Uni as well. They also offer traditional Japanese fair. I stopped in for an early lunch at this tiny (4 x 4, 4 x 2 and 6 at the bar) restaurant hidden away at the end of a small strip mall. First and foremost, something I have rarely seen, especially in a Capital Region restaurant - all the visible staff were women. I've heard how difficult it is for any woman to hold her own in a commercial kitchen, let alone succeed in a Japanese kitchen. I can't imagine the difficulties both the sushi chefs faced in prior kitchens to develop the immediately evident skills displayed here during the preparation of my lunch. One more reason to sit at the sushi bar (photo), as the chefs politely engaged me with conversation about my sushi choices. Other good news as I looked around: real hashi, no photos in the menu or on the place mats, and no annoying television, although the light American background music was a little loud. On the downside, I couldn't think of an excuse why the floor and some of the tables were not a little cleaner, as only the first five guests for early lunch had arrived in the building. But all in all, the decor was inoffensive and comfortable. When trying a new sushi restaurant, I usually order a couple of maki and some nigiri, but the menu, while large, did not have a couple of my usual standards, including, of all things, no tamago. Both of the maki I ordered were off-menu. The normal items both contained avocado - as I looked at the menu I noticed that about 70% of their maki had avocado as an ingredient. I decided to try the rolls without. There was only one server for the entire restaurant, but she was quick and attentive. The main was plated without garnish (photo), following a simple but pleasant soup. The nigiri was very good, with richly colored tasty hamachi, and a very light touch with the vinegar marinade for the saba. The spicy salmon maki was actually spicy! And even better yet was watching this prepared: the chef pulled a fillet of salmon from the display cooler, sliced off a few pieces, then barely chopped up the chunks for the maki chef. Almost every other sushi chef in the Capital Region makes this roll by first grabbing a bowl of pre-minced paste. I'm naturally shy and introverted, quiet, subtle even. OK you know that's a lie. Advice from Zena: go to Sushi-Na and sit up front at the bar and watch magic unfold and ask questions and learn and listen and taste and compare and discuss with your date and sip your tea and work your way through the nigiri. While you wait for your order, enjoy a deeply soothing bowl of miso soup, laced with seaweed and tofu. It will make you feel happy and friendly. It was a friendly night with a new friend. HCM and I ordered sushi by the piece. Perfect rice, it held together well but exploded softly with every bite. This was beautifully presented wrapped around some of the freshest fish you can get in the capital region. I especially enjoyed the hokkigai (surf or giant clam), and the scallop - something you can't expect on a standard "chef's selection" or "sushi regular". The rolls here are absolutely lovely, and I enjoyed watching them be prepared for other tables. We tried the spicy tuna roll (divine!), and the tekka maki (tuna roll). I watched the chef add the (deadly) "white tuna" to the mix. Maybe she knows I'm a goddess, figuring I can handle it, but next time I'll ask for it without. Sushi Na Ra continues to be by far the best Sushi in Clifton Park and I don't think I have had any other Sushi in the Cap District that was much better. The two ladies that work the Sushi bar at Sushi Na Ra really care how their sushi tastes and looks. My wife also really likes their lunch special where you get miso, a California roll, and a roll of your choice for $9. Sushi- 5 Stars. Very good fish, fresh and well prepared. Good rolls with a nice selection of more unusual stuff. The Sashimi/Nigiri was huge this time, and awesome as always. Favorite rolls- -Red Dragon -Birthday (see pics) -Any of the Spicy Rolls (love how they don't slaughter fish with mayo) Atmosphere- 4 Stars. Way nicer than I would have thought from the outside. This is a place we try to go to every week. The Chef is Korean and she is friendly and makes great food. What separates this place is the warm attentive staff and the friendliness. The food is top notch and while this is mostly sushi and simple Japanese style dishes, there is a district Korean flair. They make all they can in house and the freshness and quality are top notch. Even though the place is in the back of a forgotten strip mall, don't let that fool you. This place is a top three in the Capital District and they have a steady stream of clients who are regulars. Rev00: The paradise roll was to die for and all the ladies working were so sweet. Wasn't as much a fan of the spicy Yankee, but it seemed like something others might like. The scorched fish on top was intriguing. If it sounds good to you you should give it a shot cause it's definitely interesting. I want way more of that paradise roll. Also had the one with yellowtail and scallions, can't remember the name but it was fresh and yummy. Pretty basic atmosphere. Recommend this place for sure. For Clifton, I couldn't ask for better quality sushi. The Maki had more fresh, high quality fish than rice. While this should be the rule for most sushi restaurants, it's often not, particularly in suburban areas, making this place a gem. Wish I lived closer; I'd always order from here. I also wonder, after a meal like this, why there aren't more female sushi chefs. We tried this place because of positive reviews on yelp. We were in this region for a doctors appointment and had time for lunch. The first thing we noticed is that there were lots of cars out front as well as patrons inside. We were greeted with a friendly smile's and we're seated immediately. There were great choices on the menu with lots of variety, And reasonably priced lunch specials including a Bento box that offered lots of food. The food was fresh, presentation was lovely and we both enjoyed our meals. It did take a little bit longer than we had hoped to get the food, so we were a little late our appointment. Have lived in the area for 3 years now and never tried this place until today. Ordered for pick-up and was pleasantly surprised. I was greeted with mask-covered faces and my food sitting on a nearby table. All normal procedures for the time we are in The man at the register was the same person I spoke to over the phone and was extremely friendly and welcoming. After about 30 seconds of me fumbling around in my wallet for the money to cover the meal and the tip, he asked me if I liked ice cream and of course I told him yes. Then he walked into the back, reached into the freezer and grabbed a container of 2 green tea mochi balls and put it next to my food. Not only was I take back by his kind gesture, but the mochi was some of the best I've had in a very long time. It ABSOLUTELY made my day!! Haven't had the sushi yet, but I wanted to make sure that the way they treated me did not go unrecognized especially in these trying times for restaurants. Incredibly fresh and flavorful food from start to finish. We tried the New York and Hazel rolls and were blown away by the freshness and depth of flavors. I had the beef teriyaki and my wife went for the salmon, and each had a unique presentation and outstanding flavors, with top quality beef and salmon and delicious fire-grilled vegetables in a tasty house teriyaki sauce. Dinner for two with soup, salad, tempura appetizer, two sushi rolls and two entrees was just over $100 including tip, and worth every penny. We'll be back again soon. read more

I ordered 3 rolls and miso soup lunch special and total was 12.80 including tax. I like that they let you choose the roll. It comes with a California roll and you choose 2 others. I got the tuna roll and shrimp tempora. They were all good. The women rolled the sushi and they were very friendly and answered my questions. Very little rice. I would go back. read more
