He gave me so many options when i let him know my situation with my sensitive leg. it was a big piece and i knew it was going to be pricey. he let me know he would do it in sessions $100 here and $80 another day if i couldn't handle the pain. i also wanted to add a name so he said $40 more. I didn't mind i had already shelled out $300 for an outline i didn't want to go over that limit. I make an appointment and we start the process. He was super cool and comforting me when i would get through a section. i was so proud of myself lasting so long i ended up finishing the whole thing. So i thought total my tattoo was going to be $220. It was $140, I was so appreciative i gave him $180. I was recently looking for an artist to do a lion tattoo I have been wanting and asked Dan if he could work on it. He couldn't do the original one I wanted but compromised for something more simpler. The result of the tattoo was very uneven and very shaky - I even had to tell him at the end of my tattoo to connect one of the lines because it wasn't fully complete. I am now getting it covered up with the tattoo I originally wanted and it will be done by someone who is absolutely incredible with his work. Andre is my hero We were running 15 minutes late for our appointment so I called and they said no biggy because our tattoo artist was running late as well. Perfect! He ended up strolling in 30 minutes after we arrived so I was a little turned off. I wanted a warm fuzzy feeling from him before he gave me my 4th and 5th tattoo in 1 day, but I didn't get that feeling. My gf and I walked to the nearest ATM while discussing our mediocre feelings on the situation. Once we're turned Andre started working on our stencils for our tattoos. We were both very particular. And both getting 2 tattoos. He put up with our shit until we had them exactly the way we wanted! Once he was done perfecting our new art I went first. He made me double and triple check to make sure they were spelt correctly and placed right where i wanted them which was nice! He was SO FAST and WARM N FRIENDLY. We talked about everything under the sun. He was the shit. Completely genuine. I understood right then why he walked in and asked what we wanted and was getting right to it. No bullshit. This is my place, for certain. The shop is spotlessly clean and has a warm, cozy energy. You feel completely comfortable as soon as you walk in. The quality of the work here is stellar and you will get friendly, honest imput about how to make your tattoo the best it can be. I've had two tattoos with Dan and one with Nikki. All were great experiences. Dan is *very* gentle and has the patience of a dang saint. He did a large piece on my ribs and never once made me feel embarrassed about the fact that it was quite painful. He let me have as many little breaks as I wanted and was so encouraging, which is probably the only reason I was able to finish. I'm not one of those "tattoos only hurt if you're a wuss" type of people and I didn't feel like I had to push myself to act that way here. He helped me design a cover-up for an old tattoo on my shoulder and it is GORGEOUS. It's still only an outline in progress and people stop me in the street to look at it. I've already reserved arm space for a half-sleeve of one of his original paintings. Dan is the man. Rhyming aside, I adore him. Nikki tattooed my knuckle. Like, *my hand*. That should tell you how much I trust her work. She did an amazing job with my idea and was able to give me exactly what I wanted. She has tattooed several friends of mine, with exceptional results. Let me start by saying that I've gotten 5 tattoos at this location, and it is unlikely (other than an extremely specialty piece,) that I will go anywhere else. Dan-O did my first at this shop in, maybe, 2010. It's a series of 7 randomly placed black heart outlines, and until recently, was the most complimented of any other tats I have. The hearts trail up my wrist from my hand and vary in size. The year before last I met Leslie, while we were both hanging out on a patio somewhere. She had just gotten off of work, and we got to talking. The next time I ran into her, we talked about a piece I'd like to get done eventually. I explained that I couldn't justify spending the money or emotional energy on it until I had a very faulty piece on my back covered up. We chatted about what I might like, and I told her I was into the sea. Mermaids or seahorses, I said. The next week (as she is a very busy artist, and doesn't have all day to draw things just for me) she presented me with a gorgeous design of two seahorses on either side of a clam shell. I made an appointment the next week for my cover-up. I sat with her for 6 hours while she outlined, shaded, and colored expertly. I have to tell people that it's a cover-up for them to know. It's beautiful. Flash-forward a year, and I'm in the chair again for two sweet, simple arm tats. Just a couple of designs I'd wanted a while. Just over a week ago (and this is why I am writing the review,) I texted her on a whim to see if she had any time this week. It was my lucky day that she'd had a last minute rescheduling, and I was in like Flynn. I texted her a couple of picture ideas. When I got in, it was a pretty busy day in the shop. Dan was doing a mandala, and Andre was shading and coloring a guy's calf. Leslie was diligently working on my design in back, but still had time to come say hi. Within 15 minutes, she was getting out the third chair to make room for me. As I said, it was a busy day, but that didn't stop her from accommodating me. I laid on the chair for about an hour in total, while she needled my skin. Her ink has always shown up vividly on me, with minimal fading, but she still has a gentle hand. What I left with that day made me feel beautiful, and is now my most complimented piece of all. I am unbelievably happy, and can't imagine going anywhere else. Leslie is my favorite. And I would recommend her to anyone. Her black and white work is especially exceptional (even if color is more her specialty.) I can't wait to go back to fulfill the emotional piece we originally discussed over a year ago. read more

I was an instant fan- Dan is a great artist, "gets it" (he takes time to listen to what you want, and draws thing up into perfection) and open to suggestions. I find it super important that the artist you are going to be getting work done from has a great vibe, and not just tattooing skills; Dan has both! What I love about Dan is that he is AMAZING at making you relax and enjoy your tattooing experience; he pulled out a couple books I could look at while I was getting tattooed, which definitely helped me out. I got a small dia de los muertos cat tattoo on my wrist by Andre about 6 days ago. I wanted to wait for it to heal before posting a review. I was very happy with how the tattoo came out! I found this place on yelp because I'm not from San Diego and wanted to get my tattoo while I was on my trip.This is a small shop, very clean, and everyone was very friendly. Prices are very reasonable and all artist do great work. The other 2 artist were tattooing people so I got to see them work too. Andre did an awesome job! He warned me he would have to simplify the original picture I brought in because I didn't want it too big. I only wanted it 2- 2 1/2 inches and figured some details would have to be eliminated. Andre drew it out and I was so excited to see that he was able to keep a lot of the details. It's peeling and healing quite nicely. It was exactly what I envisioned! I walked in the shop with high expectations based on yelp reviews only. I took a chance. I wanted to get an Owl tattoo so i figure Nite Owl was a good start. I was greeted by Leslie, i showed her what i wanted and she drew something up and about 30 min later she was goin to work. Im very pleased with how it turned out considering my leg was twitching uncontrollably she handled it very well and kept telling me im fine i wasnt messing anything up. I'd like to start off by saying that I do not have any tattoos yet. Hard yet. I've been tagging along with my bestie while she gets tattoos from Cesar. His artwork is fantabulous and I cannot stress that enough. My bestie found Cesar through another friend of ours who was also tattooed by him. She and I LOVE anime; anime is the bees knees and as soon as she discovered that Cesar can whip out these creative anime designs, she booked her first appointment with him. I tagged along, because eventually I will get a tattoo (I just need to do research on what I want and stop being such a chicken.) and I wanted to keep them company while he was tattooing her. Cesar is SO nice and VERY pleasant to have a conversation with and it's a lot of fun to watch him work. His line art (line work?) is clean and even, and he has a great technique to make the colors he uses really pop. Watching him work inspires me to work hard and be a better artist, too. Cesar's art, designs, and creativity are so impressive and really make him stand out from other artists; and this includes his other designs, not just his anime pieces!
