I went to Masago with my boyfriend for a lunch date. Didn't know what to expect, but the restaurant was cute and cozy. We ended up going to happy hour on a Saturday which was a nice surprise. We ordered for appetizers the scallion pancakes, crab rangoon and pork gyoza which all was super good and tasted fresh. For sushi we ordered the Sakura Roll which was my favorite, the orange dragon roll which tasted good, but I think could have used more of the orange sauce. We also ordered the sweet potato roll and spicy tuna roll. The sushi tasted so good and fresh. What I really enjoyed was seeing the interactions between local/regular customers and the staff. Went to Masago sushi expecting it to be top tier, given all the rave reviews and claims that it is one of the best sushi places in the area. It was a significant let-down: Food: Disappointing. Tried the sexy salmon appetizer, a few rolls, and their nigiri sushi. The sexy salmon appetizer was decent and was the only dish where the rice wasn't stone cold. The rolls and nigiri all used cold, refrigerated rice, making them hard and taste more like convenience store sushi than restaurant sushi, which is incredibly disappointing. There is better quality sushi at AYCE sushi joints. I didn't even want to finish the sushi because of this. Atmosphere: Average, a little cramped Service: Average Overall: Definitely not top tier sushi. Not even average-level sushi. Really good sushi right down the street from my house. How did I miss this gem? Small sushi house in the heart of downtown Southington. My wife and I USE TO order often from here. At least $100 at a time. We ordered a door dash order, The bag was labeled wrong with the complete wrong food. After calling and speaking to the woman, first she tried blaming the driver, after it was very clear it was HER mistake she just said we should get a refund from door dash, and that "she was too busy to deliver the correct $100 order to us." I then called back asking if I went there could I get the correct order, and not have to pay ANOTHER $100? She said no because we got a door dash credit, even tho it was HER mistake. We ordered take out for the first time last night. My husband was dying for hibachi but with a couple sick kids at home - Masago certainly hit the spot! They had the most adorable and useful carry out containers - compartments for all of the delicious hibachi 'things.' You choose soup or salad, type of meat, veggies and rice or noodles. It even comes with yum yum sauce. There are lots of extra options as well. Everything was really delicious. The reason for only 4 stars: while the noodles tasted delicious, they were mushy (think overcooked spaghetti) and the veggies on my order were very zucchini forward while hubs had a beautiful array of many different veggies. Great flavors whether you order from the sushi bar or the grill. It challenges for my top three sushi restaurants of all time and that includes Nobu Beverly Hills. Family run. Cozy. I ordered delivery from here. Door dash was fast to deliver. The food was mediocre grocery store quality sushi. If you have ever had Price Chopper sushi, that what I equate the taste to. You are better off ordering from Wegmans, having instacart deliver it and it will taste better for less money. If you place it on a scale of 0-100 it is a 35. This is on my never again list of sushi places. The sushi chef needs to go back to Japan for retraining. read more

We tried calling another place from their parking lot we got told no wait walk up there a line of people out the door. So we said who's close and stumbled upon this place. One of our top 5 finds for 2022. We started with the mushroom soup and my Kano salad. The girls got the scallion pancakes and spring rolls. For mains my wife order the 3 roll platter and a special roll. The kid had a sweet potato roll and lo mein. The girls were quite happy to know that they had soy wraps. My sashimi platter was insanely fresh and just HUGE I regretted ordering the southington roll with no rice to go with it but I still ate the roll cause it was so good. If I could give Masago sushi 10 stars I would! My favorite new way to eat sushi is Naruto style wrapped in cucumber. I love ordering online because there's so many customizations you can do. New Year...New Weight gain. This spot was a very random ting I seem on yelp and decided to test it out due to all the good reviews. As you can see 5 stars BUT do yourself the favor and do not eat here in the winter your chest chips will freeze to your shirt and your skin will get freezer burn. It felt like i was sitting inside of the freezer. ANYWHO speaking of freezer. This spot must be fishing and serving as they go from how fresh and scrumptious the fish was. The sushi was so perfect and fresh there was seriously no words for it. I spent about $100 on dinner here and I telly a what. I'd do it again. My husband and I checked out this new sushi place a couple weeks ago for our anniversary. I don't think we have had such a great dining experience in years! The service was five stars, the food was five stars, can I give more than five stars?
