Low-key Japanese spot with both table and sushi counter seating that has a bunch of classic Japanese dishes I came for lunch with my GF and we both got their chicken teriyaki bento box from their lunch menu, which was a good deal for ~13$. It came with chicken teriyaki, veggies, rice, 3 pieces of sushi, and 2 shumai. Everything was pretty tasty, but my food was not very hot People were very friendly

This place is amazing, May is an exceptional host. We have finally found the best sushi and service in town, there are a decent amount of others but this is it hands down. Everyone is treated like family

Really good sushi right down the street from my house. How did I miss this gem? Small sushi house in the heart of downtown Southington. Had the scallion pancakes, tempura, and gyoza for apps and all were delicious. Tried a couple of rolls including red dragon, orange dragon, spicy tuna, and spicy girl. Very good rolls. Exceptional service. Really enjoyed our sushi. Can't wait to come back. May be my new go to sushi restaurant!

Another visit in early 2025 and my opinion remains the same. This place is excellent. Still the best sushi in the region. Fresh. Creative. Great flavors whether you order from the sushi bar or the grill. It challenges for my top three sushi restaurants of all time and that includes Nobu Beverly Hills. Family run. Cozy. Make a point to eat here. This is a gem.

Went again and the food was so good! We had the salad with ginger dressing which we love and we tried the sushi pizza. I wasn't sure I was going to like it but it tasted so delicious! Our favorite place for sushi and more!

This place totally deserves all 5 stars. Amazing newer restaurant in downtown southington. The best crab Rangoon I have ever had, so fresh and creamy. We also tried veggie spring rolls, California roll, shrimp tempura roll, and chicken teriyaki. All was great, highly recommend you check Out this small spot for either dine in or take out. Great service too!! - Cassie AKA @eatwithcmg on Instagram

Tried somewhere new and wow, thank god we did! This place has big portions of fresh, beautiful, and filling sushi. We were very happy with our choice; we even got a boat! I would recommend switching from all you can eat to this place; you'll find yourself eating fresher sushi you did not even know existed.

I'm laughing as I write the 35th review for a restaurant who's name has 35 in it. We tried calling another place from their parking lot we got told no wait walk up there a line of people out the door. So we said who's close and stumbled upon this place. One of our top 5 finds for 2022. We started with the mushroom soup and my Kano salad. The girls got the scallion pancakes and spring rolls. For mains my wife order the 3 roll platter and a special roll. The kid had a sweet potato roll and lo mein. The girls were quite happy to know that they had soy wraps. My sashimi platter was insanely fresh and just HUGE I regretted ordering the southington roll with no rice to go with it but I still ate the roll cause it was so good. This place was a great find I joined their rewards club so you know I'm going back. This place has my wife addicted and crazing sushi now.

If I could give Masago sushi 10 stars I would! My favorite new way to eat sushi is Naruto style wrapped in cucumber. I love ordering online because there's so many customizations you can do. This is the Naruto role and the mushroom soup. Everything at Masago is so fresh! You can eat inside with limited seating. It's great for takeout! The owners are super nice as well.

I come here for lunch solo often. Everyone is very friendly and Foodie arrives quick. I always get the seaweed salad and 2 rolls of sushi. Both are extremely good. Their menu is huge and they have a wide variety from sushi to poke bowls and soups. I also love the Tom Yum soup. If you haven't been here yet, check it out, probably the best sushi in the area.

She is very passionate about the menu and is very attentive to everyone. Thankfully, as our food was served she was there to explain that the best way to experience the chef's creation is to eat it as it presented (without soy sauce) first. She went on to explain that each dish is created with specific textures and flavors in mind to create an intentional balanced bite. She is absolutely correct and I am so glad we listened. In fact, after trying the "second" bite with soy sauce, we recognized that it was much better without it. The soy sauce is homemade and delicious but the sushi is so perfectly executed, it really does not need anything at all to shine. This is not your average sushi joint. The food and service will blow you away. Get the Princess Peach Roll if it's available. The Tiger Roll and the Flame Touch were also fantastic. Hint: the tiger roll comes with lemon slices on top - do not remove the lemon. Trust me.

I repeat told me to hurry up and order because the kitchen closes at three. Talk about pressure! So I ordered miso soup, a devil roll, and a Pepsi. So as I'm sitting in my booth, waiting for the food to be prepared, and I was keeping an eye on the sushi, chef, he sneezed. OK, I hope he wiped his hands and none of that crap went into the sushi roll he was making. Anyways, out came the soda and the miso soup. The miso soup was served in a plastic bowl about 3/4 of the way up. Also included was a plastic soup spoon. Looking around, this place was decent inside. Why would they be serving in plastic bowls with plastic utensils? This made no sense but OK. Out came the devil roll, and it looked like sushi, except it had this weird red spam like texture stuff on the top of it. I had no clue what it was. I ate it, but it was barely edible and seeing it was 14.95 , I wasn't about to send it back. So the two waitresses kept staring at me like saying hurry up hurry up hurry, hurry hurry And all my 65+ years on this earth I never felt so rushed.. These waitresses were not friendly. As soon as I was finished it looked like the manager, came over and immediately cleaned the table. She didn't give me the best looks either. Anyways, the food was decent the price decent, but the help, be prepared to be attacked by soup Nazis This definitely won't be a place I'll return to. Manners, Sushi House, manners!

It was a humble reminder that you don't need to go to a culinary destination to find good food. Cheshire Connecticut may not be known for its food scene, however, I found Sakana was a genuine diamond in the rough. My expectations were admittedly low going in. My level of skepticism is always high when I see the "Asian Bistro" moniker, as it is frequently used for restaurants to try to appeal to the masses at the expense of quality by having a "jack-of-all-trades" menu that lacks the technical intricacies and mastery required for specific dishes. Additionally, these establishments tend to follow a "cookie-cutter" menu and offer the same boring dishes you can find at every other Asian Bistro. Even when initially walking towards the restaurant, I had my doubts. The exterior of Sakana honestly looked more like a clinic than a restaurant. Once I saw the menu however, my skepticism shifted towards optimism. For a local bistro, they feature a surprisingly extensive wine and cocktail menu, including premium sake options. I was particularly impressed to find toro on the menu; although it's undoubtedly becoming more of a trend in Connecticut, I was nevertheless happy to see it offered at Sakana as well. Overall I liked their sushi selections and everything I ordered was well-prepared and tasted fresh. We ordered a chicken and broccoli for our daughter and found the chicken tender and broccoli perfectly cooked. That may not sound impressive to those reading, but you'll be surprised how many restaurants fail to execute this baseline dish correctly. The service, although pleasant, was probably the only "weak link" of our experiences here. The quality of service was noticeably inconsistent between our two visits, and they would benefit vastly from having a more reliable and experienced front-of-house team to match the execution coming from the kitchen and sushi bar. Despite this minor gripe, Sakana was a standout. As long as I'm in the area, they will definitely be among the top of my list of places to eat!

So friendly. Is the food exceptional? To me no, but my parents enjoy it. Tonight we started with crab rangoons. Pretty good. Sauce on the side not very exciting. A chili sauce would be better. I got a sushi roll with White tuna inside and cooked shrimp on top and wasabi mayo. I forget the name of the roll but it was better than the two times I've ordered takeout. Miso soup was also good. Their soup bowls are in the shape of a heart which is super cute. Dad got some sort of a mixed protein dish with brown sauce (had shrimp, chicken and beef). Mom got the chicken and garlic sauce. They both got fried rice on the side. I tried it and it was very bland. Dad also got a salad with his meal and the ginger dressing was not very good. Red coloring to it. Usually ginger dressing is more on the orange side. Dad also got the Malaysian chicken coconut soup to start and it could use a bit more flavor. Was a bit watery. Mom loved her sweet and sour soup. Nice that this place is 5 minutes away. Cheshire needs more restaurants. Def not my fav restaurant in town though. Food to me is just ok.
