Looking at the reviews, they're mostly old and this place WAS good, a decade ago but gets worse and worse. Eggrolls are not worth eating, wonton soup is basically salt water with doughy globs. For some reason the restaurant wouldn't let me order takeout until 12PM on Uber Eats even thought the restaurant was stated to be open at 11 AM on Google Maps. They should really stick to their published hours. The food itself was nothing special and a bit subpar in my book. My Pepper Steak had way too much onion in it so the meat to veggie ratio was off. First time at No.1 and it is by far the BEST Chinese takeout I've had in the Hamptons - I've been to the one in East Hampton, Wainscott, Sag Harbor, 2 in Southampton but THIS is finally it. The Chicken & Broccoli was great and plentiful. Other places, the chicken isn't cooked well/feels slimey. Lots of chicken and cooked properly here. The egg roll was really fat and filled. Very nice! Also got the cashew chicken. Had to laugh because normally I can count the scant cashews, but here I could count the chicken. It was in there but much was diced same as veggies so it gets lost. I was very excited to get Chinese from here. It's one of the more economical spots to go to in the Hamptons area. The pricing is great and the service was fast. I got there as soon as they had opened. It's pretty much your run of the mill Chinese place. The space was very clean which is nice and you get a great view of the kitchen behind the plexiglass wall. I ordered the chicken wings with pork fried rice is has become my standard whenever trying new Chinese places. My rule of thumb is if the chicken wings with fried rice is good then the rest of the food is good. Well I had hyped this place a lot in my head, which was ultimately my downfall. The food wasn't horrible, but it definitely wasn't something that made me feel like this was the Number 1 Chinese place here. Maybe it was too early to get food there but the food was seriously lacking in flavor and seasoning. The wings were so dry and mangled and the fried rice was okay but not okay enough to make up for the wings. Taking everything in consideration I feel like 3/5 is a fair enough rating. This place has really pushed itself to the front of the pack and is my favorite Chinese takeout spot in the Hamptons. Best General Tso's chicken in the neighborhood. Affordable, even compared to its peers. AND I recently found out that there's a parking lot behind the restaurant (entrance to the lot is just east of the storefront)! Game changer. LOVE this place. I have been going to the No. One Chinese restaurant in Watermill NY for years. I am a local, not one of the vast number of "City" people that plague our Hamptons during the "Season," I am also not a personal friend of the family which owns and operates the restaurant, however I have known of their actions for years. The children have gone to our local schools and are among those honored; and the mother has supported the community and local charities. There appears to be a real family pride in the operation of this little place. Not only is this a great family run business, the food is awesome too. As they are an American Chinese restaurant, you just know they deliver... The food quality is consistent, day after day, week after week, and year after year. It is the best "Standard" American Chinese fare. No it is not the same as if you were in China Town where the restaurants cater to the Chinese. But for the food that Americans know as Chinese it is fantastic. I can not think of a time I have gone in there in over ten years where the food was not hot and good. The prices are reasonable and affordable. Which for the Hamptons is rare. You can go to any of the dine in Chinese restaurants in this resort community and pay obscene prices for food that at times is not fit for canine consumption (there is no consistency in food quality off-season as compared to the Season.) or you can order the take-away from Number One. This is solid Americanized Chinese take out food. General tsao's, cheese wontons, fried rice etc. if you go in without expecting some authentic Chinese food experience you will be satisfied. I love authentic Chinese food but I also love the Americanized options (my guilty pleasure). There are very few Chinese food options in the Hamptons, and this is a solid option. Very inexpensive. I've tried the other two take out spots between Water Mill & Amagansett and think No 1 Chinese is the best in the area. Tonight we had the sesame chicken, wonton soup, veg fried rice and moo shoo chicken. Everything was right on. Each dish stood out above the local competition. I went in with high expectations because of the other reviews. Needless to say I was disappointed. I ordered a pint of pork fried rice and two egg rolls. The two egg rolls were standard except that they came on the well done side. The pork fried rice was horrible!! It was hard but chewy if that makes sense. The texture of the rice was hard at first bite. Then you start to chew and it seems like all the chewing wasn't doing anything. I would not recommend this place at all. read more

While calling up and checking on my orders location was told several times 5 minutes over the 2 and a half hour wait.
