Picture Sausalito and you envision the beautiful bay views, the quaint shops and restaurants, and the ever-present tourists marching along Bridgeway. What you don't realize is that there's a thriving underbelly (just like "Blue Velvet") full of salty old geezers and, if you think "never the train shall meet", you've not yet enjoyed an evening at the No Name. The No Name is a dive bar smack in the midst of Bridgeway, appealing to the (over)drinking locals and the tourists who might wander in and love them. Live, free music is featured often (mostly mellow and jazzy, maybe some uke playing and singing of tunes you know by heart). There's no gouging going on here ($3 for a coke seemed reasonable), just a good stiff drink at a fair price. The door is perpetually open so find a seat a bit away, in front of the stage, make yourself at home, and settle in for a couple of hours. This place celebrated it's 50th anniversary a couple of years ago and most of the patrons have been legally drinking for half their lives. It's not going anywhere and neither are they. If a place could flip off another place, than the "Bar With No Name" would give the finger to the town of Sausalito. Why? Because the entire town of Sausalito seems to have evolved into a place for the well-to-do and tourists...except for this bar where time seems to have stood still. I first learned about the No Name Bar via Yelp when I had just missed a ferry and thus had some time kill. When I walked in, I was reminded of a typical English pub and as it happened the blokes sitting next to my table were of British origin. They seem to value the low-key environment as well. I loved the atmosphere here and I will certainly come back when I feel need a dose of down-to-earthiness and simplicity. There's a stage where frequently local bands are performing and they also have a big outdoor patio, which seems to be one of the few havens for smokers. I am local and go there once a week at least and it's my favorite bar in town. they have live music every night and Friday and Saturday (and sometimes the other nights depending on the crowd), it turns into dancing after 9 pm. It is NOT a fancy bar, it's a dive bar. And you'll meet all sorts of people there. Yacht owners from across the street, locals from up the street, tourists, the occasional wedding party in tuxedos from the hotel next door, and so on. A very mixed but cool crowd and everyone there is down to earth and just want to have a good time. read more

The bar is pretty straight forward. Walking in, you're introduced to the bar and it gives you this old fashion 1900s kinda feel to it. (Kinda like when you're going to through Goodwill and you find a top hat and a monocle. [To this day, best purchase I've ever spent my money on!]) Its clean and the seats seem a little worn down, but it adds to the character of the bar. (It even puts a little chest hair on the bar, manly! Girls love chest hair! ._. And the guy down the street that always stairs at all the guys with V-necks when they pass by!) A stage to your right, that's upfront and personal to the customers and will make you feel like they're literally in front of you. (Cuz they are) The tables are spread evenly and no longer will you have to wear your elbows pads to a bar again. Theres a room further to the back where theres an open ceiling with windows so you can soak up the Ray's (and take my cousin Eduardo to get some sun in him. O.o) Besides that, they do have unisex bathrooms and I could say that the poor girl (bathroom) has seen better days but it's not scary and gives it the aging it has properly earned. Customer service: Is incredibly friendly (and not like your ex friend that tries to hit on you in front of your new crush cuz they got friendzone since you both met, so they dont get the vibes that they need to get a life. [But that rarely happens I hear... yeah Samantha..]) but the service *cough* like a stated is warm and friendly and check ups are perfectly timed. (Unlike a father, that's constantly texting his children to get back into their lifes after 10 years of putting work in front of their family.) Drinks: Drinks were strong and simple, which simplicity is always a way to my heart. (I mean dont get me wrong! I would love two rockets shooting on the sides of my drink! While the smoke spells out: "You're a valuable customer to us!" Infront of the whole staff cheering me on with every sip of my DRINK! O.O) I didnt have a chance for food (Due to my stomach sadly is only capable at eating two restaurants per hour and sadly I had reach my limit that hour. O.O) But the drinks were superb. Conclusion: With a name like this bar has, it's hard not to make a ... name for yourself. (Omg, I had to stop texting, that made laugh. [While my poodle heavily debates if I'm his father or if he was adopted. I'm hoping he doesnt suspect anything! Time to dress up in a poodle costume for the next month!) On top of the dive bar seen for sure! This place was such a breath of fresh air after passing by all of the ritzy pricey spots here in Sausalito. Drinks were great and evenly priced. The music was perfect and you can still see the island view from inside. They had beautiful stained glass and of course the name in itself is just a whole other reason to come. The window quite literally just says "bar" nothing more, nothing less. They always have live music at night, I wish we could stay long enough to enjoy it but we need to catch the ferry! Love this pub. It's our new favorite place to unwind on a Friday night and listen to awesome jazz! Tenor sax guy has several google pages on him, the guest harp player is very well known. Go Eugene! Dont' expect fancy, this place is funky, but in a good way. Great drinks, great music AND walking distance to home. Can't beat it! I love this little local bar, which has been a fixture in Sausalito for over 50 years. All of the staff is great, and Billy, who works behind the bar a few nights a week, is warm, kind, funny, and a lot of fun. He treats everyone with respect but also maintains good boundaries so that a woman going there alone can feel safe and that someone has her back, if needed (and let's be real - in any bar that's sometimes needed). JJ and Mick are also awesome. One of the best things about this bar is that it has live local music EVERY NIGHT. Might be a band one night, a jazz trio another night, and an acoustic singer-songwriter on another night - they mix it up - but you can count on it that if you go there after around 8:30, there will be FREE LIVE MUSIC, and it will be worth hearing. This is more appreciated than ever with so many other venues closing down. Oh, and they do take credit cards now, which is new and also appreciated! read more

I just went here last night for the very first time. JJ the bartender was awesome, he made great drinks and was very welcoming. The patio is charming, with a lot of character. The bands were amazing and with a live drawing artist. Although it is small it has a great ambience and charm. The locals are extremely friendly and very helpful if you are not a local. Right smack dab in the middle of quaint little Sausalito, lies a bar without a name featuring drunk locals, house cats and a back patio area that smells like a cross between wet carpet and pet urine. Gotta love it. The No Name bar looks like it shouldn't belong in this area of town. It's like the hippie brother that never left home and never got a job, sitting right along side a table full of Ivy League grads at Thanksgiving dinner. Expect super friendly bartenders, a talkative group of regulars jumping at the chance to speak with fresh blood, and live music on the weekends. After a bout of day drinking, BBQing and general merrymaking with a group of out-of-towners, there was no better choice for passing time in wait of the ferry than No Name. The adjectives local, dive and cheap all apply, and we were more than happy to oblige when the townies insisted on hushing us at 5:30pm as not to disturb their residential neighbors. And for a grand total of $56, we procured (all told) some 10 drinks comprised of about half beers, half hard alcohol. Time well spent, observing the natives, kind of mingling with them and adding one more beverage to the pile already consumed that day. Rock and roll! read more

The moment you get on the ferry to Sausalito you know you're in for a good time. We crossed the bay for a day-long bbq, fantastic mojitos, and a spectacular view. On our way back to San Fran we had to wait and found the perfect, locals dive bar the No Name. We squeezed in to a booth in the back patio and started ordering away drinks and munching on popcorn. Ah but we were a loud rambunctious crew and the regulars weren't lovin' it since usually it's more of a quieter scene complete with chess games. So as you can imagine they asked us to shush it but we still managed to be the loud kids. As we shuffled out there was a live band covering some jazzy, folksy music. This is the perfect locally charming, close to water, salty and sweet place to grab a handful of popcorn and some drinks with your pals. read more

Don't go to this place - seriously! My company went here for happy hour a couple days ago - about 20 of us. I had an interestingly unpleasant experience. The second you walk in, you get a whiff of what smells like mold...I feel bad for the employees who have to breathe this air - it cannot be a healthy environment. I would recommend the health department take a super hard look at this place. Also, the back door was open and people were smoking cigarettes on the patio. The draft brought so much smoke inside it made my coworker's eyes burn. Overall, this place is really dirty and the carpet is disgusting. I double-dare anyone to take a black light to this joint. Anyway, on to the painful part. They don't take credit cards so I had to use an atm machine. They pointed me to theirs...sure, I thought, no problem...I will use it. Here's the part that sucks - I asked for $200 and out came six $20s and four $1 dollar bills. Clearly the machine was loaded incorrectly because if those $1 dollar bills would have been $20s it would have been the correct amount = $200. Instead, I received $124. I was shorted $76! So I calmly explain to the bartender (whom was a nice guy) that his machine had given me the incorrect amount of money. He tried to tell me to take it up with the machine company...which annoyed me...so I said "nah, can't we call the owner?" He said okay and called the owner. After calmly explaining to the owner what happened, he accused me of trying to rip him off! Literally, he got loud and yelled at me over the phone...unbelievable! I explained to him that I don't have time to pull atm scams like this and I genuinely don't need to...I was there for a work function. He explained that he is the one who loads the atm machine every night and there is absolutely no way he could have made a mistake. Well, the fact is, he did make a mistake and he lost me as a customer and my company will no longer go there on weekly basis. Hey owner, you probably just lost about $3,000 a month in sales! Good for you! I don't know how long this place has been open - my gut tells me quite a while. However, there is no way this place will be able to keep the doors open with an old fashioned jerk for an owner and the filth (seriously health department - check for mold) and gross stench. The lease on this place has got to be a fortune...it's in one of the most prime locations in Sausalito. My guess...this place is just about to close the doors...which is a shame because the bar tender and waitress were very friendly and if it were cleaned up and managed appropriately it could be awesome. read more

Weirdest place I have ever been... Ever.... Like EVER. We were in there area and just looking to have a beer and quick lunch. We aren't the picky type at all and figured this placed looked like a potentially cool hole in the wall type bar. It was awful. There was a cute little outdoor area in the back, but by the time we go back there we realize there were cob webs everywhere and nasty old beer kegs that made the while place reek. We ended up inside at a corner booth. We were pretty much the only people there. The server was sweet but not very attentive at all and hardly said two words to us. I ordered a San Francisco club w a beer and my bf had the same. My first tip should've been when the waitress called somewhere else to order herself a slice of pizza when they have pizza slices on their menu.... So after like a 30-40 minute wait (still the only people there) someone comes in with a box with a couple sandwiches on styrofoam wrapped in plastic. The waitress then brought them over to our table and just plopped them down and walked away, didn't even attempts to take the plastic off or give us napkins or ketchup or anything.... Bazaar!!! I have no idea where our food was prepared but it wasn't here (and it wasn't good at all). Then to top it all off... We left cash on the table waiting for change (cash only bar) and she took probably another 15 minutes or so before coming back (still the only customers) because she was too fixed on her pizza and tv. Moral of the horror story --- I wouldn't say this place is "horrible" just really dirty and super duper weird!!! read more

Considering the desolate location, this place is "A-OK" Our cocktail waitress was fucking wigged out on something...meth or coke for sure. One of my friends and I ordered a Coke (soda) - it was flat A couple friends ordered beers- we had to remind our junkie waitress to bring them out. And where does the food come from? Some of us ordered food and The Tweaker brought it from outside. Do not come here, it's horrible I tell you, horrible! Stay away! ... mostly because I want this place all to myself. Back in the 60s, my father rented the apartment two spots down the street from No Name, and really, the place hasn't changed much in 50 years. It's one of the classier dive bars I've ever been to -- you treat your waitresses and bartenders right, and they return the favor two-fold with stiff drinks, good service, and a willingness to go down the street for you to pick up food (or you can bring your own, as long as you're drinking pretty steady). The garden patio out back is one of my favorite places on Earth to get some quiet grading in on a Sunday morning with the 9'ers game on in the background, and the old chess sets make it pretty easy to strike up a conversation with a new friend or at least drinking buddy. Jazz on Fridays and Saturdays generally follows the straight-ahead or blues models, whereas you head down towards Dixie on Sundays more often than not. They're still bringing in the talent, and people in the know get here a little early to claim seats. 9 times out of 10 I feel like I'm the youngest person here other than the band maybe, but I just feel at home anyways. If your money is green and your attitude isn't disrespectful, these folks will treat you right. And yes, I do mean green -- this is a cash-only establishment. So, while no-name is under new management since the old days, and isn't quite the beat-era hangout my father used to enjoy, it's still got a lot of character, class, stiff drinks, and good music. It's a refuge from the bourgeois tourist haven that is downtown Sausalito... it's like a time warp back to an era when buying schlock wasn't the only reason to cross the Golden Gate. This is one of only two places in Sausalito one can sit at a bar and smoke, and it's the ONLY place where you can smoke within a covered patio inside the bar. This fact alone makes it a 5 in my book since I'm a smoker. However, service can be hit or miss depending on who is working, sometimes you'll get a waitress who's good at managing her tables and other times you'll get someone who just doesn't want to be there. read more

We wandered in to the No Name bar after walking by and hearing some great jazz wafting out the door on a beautiful Sausalito day. Walked in and grabbed a couple of seats at the bar and a few draft beers. Bartender was proficient and seemed to know many of the other patrons by name. Several folks had microwave popcorn which can apparently be ordered for only $1. Nice deal! There was a cute-looking back porch but the smoke looked so heavy we didn't try to venture outside. Music was great and we enjoyed the band very much, but otherwise nothing special. Alright. I'll preface this by saying that I had never been to Sausilito before the day I took this trip. My friend described the "dive bar" down the street as somewhere we could sit, drink, and (of course) smoke. The No Name Bar looks very similar to a dive bar, and you'd never know the difference by the looks of the staff. BUT when you order a Bloody Mary and are charged $14 (premium pint draft = $6) you begin to feel hornswaggled, like the time you forgot to read the fine print. Come on, No Name. Really?? Don't dress like a street hooker and then ask for pro escort wages. But as my friend said, "This IS Sausilito." Ummmm....okay. So beer is beer - Anchor Steam on tap is a good friend of mine - and I took mine to the back patio where I was eager to sit down and get my smoke on. The back patio is nicely organized with padded bench seating, plenty of tables of varying sizes, and lots of old people playing chess. If this place sold pitchers, this patio has potential for some serious hanging out. I did not care for the fact that there's a canvas covering on the patio, giving rise to a claustrophobic maniac inside me that surfaces when I'm smoking indoors. Just not used to it. Sorry. There was live jazz inside but it felt too small to have a live band. Just my opinion. You could sit in there and watch but you'd have to be looking up in order to do so (raised stage) and there's no way you could talk. We stayed outside for the duration of our visit but I liked the music when I went in to take the pee. The waitress was super helpful and attentive but the fact that she kept coming out made me feel obligated to tip her, which I was not happy about as I'd already paid out the ears for the drinks. Altogether, I know this is the cheapest place for drinks on this little strip but just because it's next to the marina doesn't mean it should be able to rob people on drink prices. If you're going to do that, put a little effort into an upscale ambiance. It makes paying $14 for a cocktail a little more tolerable. read more

It has all the trappings of a local bar There is a TV and some over used tables and chairs. The bartender was quite pleasant. That's the good news. The cons: the No Name Bar should be named Cash Only Bar. And only tell us when we go to pay our bill. They will sell you cash at their Atm machine. For a place with no name, it's fairly well known. I'm a jazz guy. I frequently go to Yoshi's to hear world class music. I live in Marin, so coming to No Name to see my local friends perform is a requirement. I often do so reluctantly. This place smells like spoiled, old spilled beer - pissy. Decor features beat up floor and furniture. Typical dive. Tourists like it 'cause there is no cover charge. And they don't come to listen to the music but to try to shout over it. Coming here specifically to hear low volume live jazz can be futile unless you sit right in front of the band. read more

It was surprisingly busy for a wednesday night around 10. Fun staff, nice drinks and decent music.
