This has easily become one of my favorite places lately. It's a very chill but fun place to be on the weekends and it has more of a dive bar during the week. The bartenders and workers are all great, but it does get pretty busy on the weekend so it might take a little longer to get a drink. I love that they have a Photo Booth and they post pictures on the wall if you would like them to. I do wish they had more food options, but there are some nights where they offer food like pizza or barbecue. I would recommend checking out their Instagram page to see if they're offering anything on a certain night, but usually we get food and then go there for just drinks and a good time. This has become a regular place for me and for all the friends that I bring here. Stopped by No Smoking for some drinks post-dinner in Culver City. I really liked the 1970s theme with some Japanese/Asian influence artwork and red neon lights. If you like lighter cocktails, I'd recommend the Incredible Hulk because I couldn't really taste the alcohol at all. This soju-based drink featured a hint of fruity flavors (passionfruit and pineapple) as well as a fresh basil on top. Its nice that every time you take a sip, you can smell the basil. The Coffee Negroni had strong espresso flavors and the bitterness is contrasted with the salted orange, citrus-y foam. The Chai Old Fashioned was a tad too strong for me but definitely had the aroma of chai spices with whiskey and bourbon. The space is pretty big with a long bench for seating, as well as an outdoor area. Sometimes they will feature DJs. Cool, unassuming bar in Culver City that is kinda by itself near neighborhoods so gives it a local watering-hole type of vibe. Came to checkout this new local bar at an unassuming location on La Cienega and was pleasantly surprised. Once you enter the establishment you'll notice it's a significantly larger space than you expect it to be with an outdoor patio area at the end, great to step away from the loud music inside. Dive bar vibes with a premade cocktails menu. I liked the Incredible Hulk Jr drink very smooth & the touch of basil leaf brought complimentary flavor to the drink. The chai old fashioned was a good old fashioned but there's nothing chai about it. Adding a toasted curry leaf on top doesn't make it a chai old fashioned. Don't get me wrong chewing into the toasted curry leaf while simultaneously taking a sip of the old fashioned was great flavor pairing overall but it just isn't true to its name. Per the ingredients there's chai masala & jaggery but you can barely taste the masala (aka spices). This spot is the former Mandrake bar... Went in on a Saturday evening around 1115 just to grab a quick drink after I had worked all day. First issue wasn't greeted very friendly by the bartender and when I asked for a drink menu, he pointed to a sign that I had to get up out of the barstool and go see they don't have out on both sides of the bar, Nor is it printed so that was not cool and he wasn't a very friendly person. And your bartender supposed to be the friendliest person...I'll let you know what's up...the girl in the cowboy hat she knew what was up. She was friendly. She made me a bomb drink and she had a personality. The other guy not so much sorry to keep on the bartenders, but like the bartenders, you are the gatekeepers of the world like you have to be Nice. Great Japanese liquor collection - some serious whiskeys and I believe I spied some vodkas as well. But - I find the concept of an overpriced fake dive bar to be weird. The place is newer, it's not an actual old neighborhood dive bar, but it's kind of trying to be, but it's too expensive to actually be one. Also found it hard to hold a conversation with someone sitting right next to me, because the music was so loud. If people were up and dancing, I wouldn't even mention this. But at 10-11pm on a Friday night no one was grooving, everyone was sitting around chatting with friends and dates, so it would have been thoughtful if the DJ turned the volume down a couple notches. This place is a nice 15 min. walk from La Cienaga/ Jefferson for the E line. The staff and company make the trek worth it. The owner Ben is incredible. He makes an excellent cocktail. The menu offers a few specialty drinks, they are all quite good. Even their beer selection is interesting, they have a pickle beer. They were able to make every drink we threw at them, except a pisco sour but who has pisco. Everything we had was wonderful. It's a dive bar. What do you expect? Loud music you're going to have to shout to get your drink order . Service wise it's overcrowded the building has no airflow so if anyone had Covid, you're just fucked . Oh but the atmosphere is 1970s friend basement to get stupid drunk. Logistically they're not set up to have a whole bunch of customers. There's no parking there. They did have some sort of event in their back but there's no heat lamps and it's a very cold. . Bloody great bar. The lady bartender is very nice and personable, the happy hour is banging, the size of the place is great and you can smoke out back. I've only been during the week happy hours and it's been slow which I think is nice, and it seems to pick up later in the day so I can imagine on the weekend it's lively but not over crowded.
