checked this bar out on a whim yesterday and i'm so glad i did! it's intimate, cozy and not overwhelmingly filled with bodies inside. i wanted to find a chill place with a good old fashioned and scored -- highly recommend their japanese one. they don't have food here but the service was great and was welcomed in with a friendly energy. perfect place to end up at with friends or a date. will definitely return! read more

Went here on a Friday night. Was pretty vibrant with the moody lighting and DJ. The front bar area was clean and spacious. The outdoor area in the back is massive. I ordered a non alcoholic drink bc I wasn't feeling like a binge. Originally I wanted to order the cherry NA drink but it was sold out. The bartender was friendly and helpful in describing the drink and offering alternatives to the cherry drink. I would return for sure. There's street parking and residential. Might be tricky since it's surrounded by apartments. read more

Came here tonight with a couple of friends when we heard they were hosting a singles mixer! I loved the vibe and decor and it felt very intimate when we arrived. The cocktail menu was intriguing as well! Their patio area was gorgeous, with one on Venice Blvd and a more secluded larger one behind the bar. Their patio area service was very friendly and it felt upscale and easygoing. While this may seem like an independent bar it's actually owned by a conglomerate. Not that that's bad, it's just IMO lacking vibe and character. It feels like it wants to be a good dive bar, but isn't. The bartenders are good and work hard. The spacious adjacent outdoor patio is great. It used to be a parking lot and above it towers a huge lit billboard for rent. I know liquor is its specialty but only one IPA available was disappointing. It feels more like a faux hipster hangout. Not as much of a 5-star review as it is a 5-star journal entry for me. My chest is burning ... Mitch the bartender is taking care of the mixing of this volatile concoction at Oldfield's Liquor Room in Culver City. The drink included jalapeño honey, and if he did it like bartender Robin Jackson did, well, then it also had grapefrut juice, seltzer and a dash of habanero sauce. Might sound crazy but, it goes well with any food that you would normally spice up with hot sauce, which for me is most food. Side note: If you are thinking about Barney Oldfield the racecar driver right now well, he is buried right here in Culver City ... and yes, this place is named after him. I love this place mainly because you can bring your own food in, since they do not have a kitchen. Tonight my mewnu consisted of an overly delicious chicken burger from Black Sheep Burger, in Sawtelle, and their amazing curry fries. Feels good to revisit this place ... as it was so often my first stop on my weekly bar tours of L.A. that often times ended between 4:30 to 5:30 A.M. A lot has changed since 2020/pandemic.... but good bartenders still seem to work at the best of places.... I just learned that Mitch is one. You can stay indoors in the bar area, ideal for couples/date nights, or opt for an outdoor spot, ideal for groups, with plenty of picnic tables and heaters to keep you cozy. There's nothing like finding a hidden gem in your own neighborhood. I discovered Oldfields by happenstance as I was walking a dog. When I saw it it immediately reminded me of the mom and pop dive bars I was accustomed to seeing in the south growing up. I knew these were the places that always had the best drinks. And oldfields did not disappoint. My first time here was to hangout with a new friend. We both had different tastes in liquor so wanted to go somewhere with a variety of cocktails and canned drinks just to be safe. When we walked in, we immediately appreciated that the ambience was intimate and makes for easy conversation. The staff is very knowledgeable about their drink options and even had recommendations on what we should try based on our palates. Overall an excellent experience with great drinks, awesome staff, and an intimate ambience. read more

The vibe at Oldfield's is very classic and cozy. You need to go to Oldfield's if you're a cocktail connoisseur. My favorite house cocktail there is the Secret Stash ($16) made with Beluga Vodka, cucumber, lime, and house salted pistachio orgeat. Who knew that pistachios could taste so good in a cocktail? It was so good, I ordered another! I also had a lot of fun ordering because of the name - I made sure to wink at the bartender. The Tiny Dancer cocktail is my second favorite at Oldfield's, and it's also a deliciously fun time. If you like gin, this is the drink for you - it has Wilder Gin, rosemary, lemon, Green Chartreuse, and house grenadine. The Blackberry Smash is great if you enjoy super sweet cocktails. read more

I've been frequenting this bar since moving into the area a few years ago. The dark, woody interior creates a great ambiance. Regular events at the bar (DJs on the weekend, comedy show's monthly, etc) cater to everyone's wants. The bar attracts locals and newcomers alike. While they don't serve food, there are often different food venders outside and the food is allowed to be brought into the bar. The vast selection of different alcohols offer a great variety of drink options. Their menu has a lot of creative drinks developed by the bartenders and rotates so you're never bored. My personal favorite is the drink, "You're in a cult". The bartenders are all knowledgeable and welcoming. One of them that often goes above and beyond is Box. They're always willing to mix something new to fit your specific tastes and offer suggestions of things to try when you're unsure of what to order. I highly recommend OldField's and bring all of my friends there for any occasion. read more

Great vino/whiskey drinks in a dim lit bar nestled in culver city. Ambience is laid back with an upscale feel. Another nice thing about this place is that it isn't too loud and you can actually have a conversation over drinks. Great ambiance and drinks. The service when I've gone several times has just been okay. A good date spot during the week. This part of town doesn't tend to get crowded on the weekends, however this spot is an exception because it's pretty quaint and small. But IMO the decor and lighting is some of the best in LA, and it's completely unexpected from the outside. If you can get a seat at the bar, that's kind of a nice change from the regular layouts you see around LA. read more

Great spot for happy hour and dates. Finally got to try this spot out - bartender was friendly and QUICK - she made great cocktails very efficiently. Vibe is very cute with hanging plants. There's no food here but you can order food delivered here, and sometimes there's food trucks nearby. I'm not sure why I haven't frequented this spot more often... they have a great happy hour. The lighting at Oldfields is also dark, very classy. This is a great date spot. Especially if you go on a Wednesday trivia night lol. You can have the back room all to yourself. I went during their happy hour. I tried the Outlaw. Honestly, it wasn't very strong. But I also don't drink as much as I used to, so I literally just had that one drink and also tried a bit of an Old-Fashioned. Usually I go to Big Foot which is next door, but I think Oldfields is much more appealing for the older crowds. read more

Bigfoot West and Oldfields is inextricably linked in mind; I visited both of them for the first time on the same night, and they are a short walking distance from each other. I also subsequently learned that they are both part of the 1933 Group, which owns several establishments in the LA area. If Bigfoot West is more of the dive bar with a lodge-like interior, Oldfields is the more jazzy/upscale cousin that is going to talk your ear off about "The Great Gatsby" after a few drinks. Both bars have their merits, and I've enjoyed happy hour at each establishment. The cocktail selection on Oldfields' happy hour menu is a bit more complex when I compare it to Bigfoot West, but you can't go wrong checking out both given their proximity. The bartender during my recent Oldfields visit was friendly, and I will definitely be back again! read more
