Nice spot to meet up with friends or even a date night. Ambience and decorations are excellent, the service was friendly and attentive, and their cocktail and beer list is solid. My only complaint there was my cocktail was definitely on the smaller size for the price. I was done my old fashion in a few small sips. Didn't try the food, but the bone marrow burger looked tasty at the table next to me. Overall, above average ambience, solid drinks, but probably about 20% too expensive for what you end up getting. Perfect place for a night cap! I came with some friends on a Wednesday evening. After dinning at hatchet half I saw that this cute speakeasy was attached to the restaurant hidden in the back. My curiosity made me walk through the door to find out what's happening lol. So glad I did! The bartender was so nice and made really good drinks. It's a small bar.... Cute and cozy, dim light and good music. They play vinyls, no DJ. They also have a nice fire place inside as well. One of the servers told me that they usually stay open until 1/1:30 but if it's not a lot of people then they will close early (midnight). I think this is my new bar! read more

They have seven different Old Fashioneds, but I'm partial to the bourbon ones like the Classic and Old Man. The setting couldn't be more perfect for a night cap or after dinner drink and the bartenders are always attentive and well-versed in their menu and detailed in their craft. I was visiting LA for a short time for work. Old Man Bar has a great selection of bourbon, and old fasion cocktails. I recommend this place for the vibe. It's a great place to chill and lounge with friends or a date. The music wasn't too loud. I was able to carry a conversation without yelling. Music was playing from vinyl, a mix of instrumental funk, and another type of genre that I'm failing to name. It's a quaint space with baby leather bound booths, and seating at the bar. Was on a really crappy and kind of alarming meet up and the bartender made sure I was okay and kept an eye on me and the bouncer asked if I was okay and proceeded to follow us out to make sure I was good so honestly I give 5 stars just for the observation and care that I know every single woman out there would appreciate. I think this bar believes all of its customers are old men, because they turn the volume up to 11. The vinyl albums, turntable and Klipsch speakers are cool, but the music was so loud that we had to shout at each other just to be heard. Like old men, I suppose. The album selection is eclectic, ranging from calypso to Amy Winehouse, and you will be treated to an entire album, back and front, of whatever they're playing. The bar looks like an old hunting lodge with its wood paneling, even on the ceiling, fireplace, dim lighting and whimsical taxidermy. It's much smaller than we anticipated. Nice bourbon, rye and whiskey selection, and it does not come cheap. Two drinks with a tip set us back $55. Boyfriend wanted the pickle tray served by the adjacent Hatchet Hall, but was told that they only serve the burger and fries on burger night, nothing else. I don't think we will return. Despite being people of a certain age, the bar had a hipster vibe to it that wasn't really our scene, and it was quite expensive. The bartender was very nice, though. read more

I had an outstanding experience here that saved my night after going to a sadly disappointing restaurant I thought would be great down the street. This was a welcoming, beautiful environment. We went here on one of our many #BarTours, Its looks exactly like an "Old Man Bar" in a more modern eclectic way. I mean the record player spinning ALL of the music, wall of whiskeys and different takes on whiskey drinks is a dead on. I've been to the OMB twice for their Burger Night(s). Its on Monday, but think Sunday as well. The package deal is $33 for a beer, a shot of whisky, burger & fries. The first time I really liked the fries, thinking some of the absolute best. They were crisp, extra well seasoned & served in a big bowl with a spicy ketchup and aioli. Second time they were not as crispy but still very tasty. The burger is made of venison and pork. It's tender and delicious. The brioche bun is melt in your mouth soft. Pimento cheese is gooey and packed with flavor. Pickle spear was good too. As for the drinks, it's a Coors so NTS but hits the spot. The house whiskey served in a cute, cut crystal shot glass was smooth and smallish. Esteban, was our server both times. He's a nice guy, detailed mixologist and checked on us often the second visit. It says you are supposed to order from the bar, which we did the first visit. Last night we had table service. Either way, credit card up front to start a tab/ticket. Place is dark, antlers on the walls, vinyl playing. A couple small tables in the back by the fireplace, several two top booths and one four banger as I can recall. Our bill was $80, they include a 20% service charge and you have option to add more on closing out. Not cheap, but there is or was a Michelin starred chef next door. (Hatchet Hall) The burger is very gourmet, epic fries, two drinks, good service and atmosphere so a decent value. I would recommend for sure, but a tad pricey for my normal burger budget. read more

Don't forget to triple check your bill! I fully enjoyed the burgers but unfortunately the waiter Estaban charged us for two wine bottles, instead of two glassess... how do you mess that up? Unfortunately, my bf likes to "get the bill" so he didn't pay attention or even really look much at the bill. Before we left I got the printed receipt and $300 was wild for 2 couples getting a burger and a drink!! After calling they gave a very quick apology and only returned the difference of $82 which did NOT include the 20% tip and tax of $82.... You would think after overcharging someone over $100 they would do SOMETHING, at least a better apology and get the full refund they overcharged us! Since I try to be somewhat fair, it was yummy, but I think having a 20% gratuity included leads the service quality to decrease and I wouldn't return because I feel scammed and that they still owe me $24 of tax and tip. read more

Walking in the place is pretty cool, lots of places to sit and nice low light ambiance, perfect for a night cap. Lots of options to choose from if you like whiskey, however, not a single citrus cocktail on the menu. We were a bit disappointed, but I think that's the point of this bar. Just be aware that almost every drink is spirit forward and it's expensive as a mother f**r but again that's to be expected from LA. We paid 47.50 for two drinks plus gratuity here. My partner and I are in the industry so we always tip 20% but we were a bit taken back by the automatic 20% gratuity. Mind you we sat at the bar and the bartender made our drinks and set them down in front of us, I'm not sure why the automated gratuity. Side note bathrooms are cool, such a vibe. read more

A tall guy walked past me from behind the bar. He gave me a once over look and kept walking, no greeting or acknowledgment of any kind. My friends staggered in (not drunk, late). Had drinks and a great evening of conversation. Asked for the checks. The first two checks were just dropped at the table. It was so dark in the bar we couldn't read anything but the total. We added a tip (20%) for one drink each, which seemed generous. The next check arrived and the waiter informed my friend, tip is included. The first checks arrived with no indication of tip being included. So our generous 20% turned into 38%. I have never heard of a bar including tip on any check for 2 drinks and a beer. The inconsistent service just felt lazy and left us annoyed. There are lots of good vibe bars in West LA with no parking. The Old Man Bar has unfortunately lost its appeal. read more

I love this cozy spot. I stopped in on a date recently and the vibe was chill but surprisingly bustling for a Wednesday night. We were easily able to get a table to the side. We didn't wind up ordering anything though because we were hungry and they only serve food on Sundays and Mondays. So we quickly booked a table at Hatchet Hall next door (one of my favorites) and wandered over when our table was ready. But they didn't rush us out and it didn't get crowded while we were there.
