Honor Bar is one of my favorite restaurants in LA. The food is consistently amazing, the service is always friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. Their fried chicken sandwich is hands down one of the best I've had, it's the reason I keep coming back. Every meal I've had has been great, but that's my go-to order. Whether I'm meeting friends or grabbing a casual meal, Honor Bar never disappoints. Can not believe what happened , apparently you can not show shoulder in a bar. It isn't like we went to South Beverly grill next door. Me and my significant other came inside to grab a drink at the bar and we were denied service because her shoulders were showing. I'm in utter disbelief. It's not like we are coming to a Michelin star dining establishment. This was extremely uncalled for. Especially as a repeat customer. I've been coming here for over 10 years!! Safe to say I will never come back to this location or even South Beverly grill. Not to mention it's 90 degrees outside at 3pm. As a foodie who dined at many Michelin restaurants (you can check my credentials on this app) I.E providence , ossteria mozza, le berniden, citrin, nozawa bar. But at Honor bar we are denied a drink cause my Latina brown skinned girlfriend was showing shoulder. And for context it's not like she was wearing LA casual sports wear. She was in designer capris and a top with expensive jewelry on (I am a jeweler by trade) I am appalled. Here's the kicker. Ok I love all the Hillstone Group restaurants!! This was my first time eating at The Honor Bar and it was 5/5!! I ordered the crispy chicken sandwich without the bread, devil eggs, and kale salad!! And OMG it was very good!! Even without the bread it was still on point!! The slaw was very tasty and yummy!! Kale salad with the peanuts was perfect! For my drink it ordered the Turnball Cabernet red wine that was suggested by Dylan and it was very good for my palette. The service was great! Dylan was our sever and he was very nice! And personable and easy going. Our order was not incorrect and it came out fresh and hot. But of course that's nothing new with Hillstone restaurants, they are all phenomenal!!! It's also located next to their sister restaurant South of Beverly. The Honor Wine is right next to it as well. It's dark and gives semi-upscale vibes! It's not that spacious since it's a bar so it's usually a long wait. I recommend coming early or trying to do reservations. This place is good for date night or a drink after work. Let me start this review by saying the chicken sandwich and the burger were both PHENOMENAL! Definitely worth whatever it takes to get it. Now, the place is super small with weird seating. I like the dark vibe it has going though. The most frustrating part of it all? Servers came off super pretentious and would intentionally walk by your table without looking to avoid you asking them anything. Moreover, the place doesn't let you make many changes to your order. For example, if you ask for easy rice on the sushi, they will say no. If you ask for them to put the avocado on the side due to an allergy of one member of the group, they will say no. Our items came out SUPER slow, and this was after waiting a while for a table. The sushi is subpar - heavy on the rice and not enough fish. However, the coconut shrimp roll was good. That all being said, I'd go back and deal with it all again for the chicken sandwich and the burger. Had an amazing experience at honor bar. The service was impeccable. It took a while to get service; however, once someone took my order everything was really efficient. My drinks and order came out swiftly and my burger was cooked perfectly. I rarely order medium rare burgers but I heard the quality was amazing here and it really was. The taste was really unique. The table wait system is horrible. We waited over an hour for a table of 4. They never informed us that we have a 15 Minute grace period once we have been informed that the table is ready. Recently came here on a Friday afternoon around 130pm and it was packed with families and people on their lunch breaks. We had about a 20 minute wait which wasn't bad. They have seats outside and it was a nice day so we hung out and people watched. We sat at the bar and were instantly greeted by the bartender and had great service. She was super familiar with the menu, which is limited as it's a mini more casual version of South Beverly next door. Racist, profile people without even looking at them and refused service. They are known for their chicken sandwiches, and they apparently "have a dress code " in 90° weather, when we live in LA and wear cute outfits for summer. They asked for our shoulders to be covered, they would not allow baseball hats, even though they were for a religious purposes. I think they believe they are a Michelin star restaurant. The Honor Bar is a great place to go if you're looking for a good bar with good bar food! Great for a fun date night as well (but it was also a tad dark in there when we went.) We went there mainly for food and ordered the Veggie Burger, Emerald Kale Salad (to share), French Fries, and the Honor Burger. I did not try the Honor burger but my partner said it was pretty good...not life changing as he has read in some reviews, but still delicious! He also pointed out that the bun was also really good! I thought that the most delicious of the foods I tried was the Kale Salad. Not many restaurants can successfully make Kale taste good, let alone a BAR, but this place sure does! The reviews were not wrong about this dish, but i think it could've been bigger for the price. The Veggie burger was also really unique and delicious! If you like veggie patties made with grains and other stuff, this is one to try! It was made with rice, mushrooms, almonds and melted jack. I'm not usually a fan of veggie patties that are put together with grains or beans, but really loved this! The fries were not anything unique for me, but when I see fries on a menu, I order fries from the menu. And I did also eat most of the fries as well! This review is disappointing to write because of how much I used to love coming to Honor Bar. Most of the staff, all of the bartenders, and professional servers are incredibly friendly and the food is always delicious. Unfortunately my most recent visit was terrible due to the hostess deciding to enforce antiquated dress code rules on me and only me. When I arrived I was told my Dior short sleeve shirt was unacceptable. I hate that I am throwing in the designer but the point will be made by the end of this review. The host informed me that my top violated their dress code. Because I am happy to follow any rule or standard policy, I quickly ran to my car to find something to put over my outfit. All I could find was a black salon robe since my partner is a hair stylist. So I put it on even though it had color stains on it because it was all I had and according to them this was more permisible than a designer shirt. There is no universe in which anyone would say my outfit was now classier. However, because my arms were now covered I guess to them this was acceptable. While dining, there were multiple women and men wearing either backwards hats, spaghetti strap tank tops, flip flops, and incredibly short shorts. All of these looks were far more casual than my initial outfit and I cannot accurately explain how embarrassing it was to see them all while I had to eat wearing a salon robe. Again, I am happy to follow any rule but it is deeply hurtful and humiliating being singled out while no one else was expected to follow the rules. It doesn't help that everyone else who got a pass was white and straight appearing. It sadly makes me wonder if there were more additional layers to me being singled out. My partner told me to check their website while we were dining and I have attached a photo of what it says: "We consider tank tops, flip flops, and team athletic attire too casual for our restaurant." Upon reading this at the bar, I felt compelled to ask the manager why their rules only applied to me. She let me know that the rules mostly applied to men which is quite frankly an insane thing to say in 2025. Casual is casual. And the standard for what is or is not appropriate should have no gender. Please understand I am not trying to be elitist when I talk about the value of my clothes. It just needs to be said because my outfit was far more upscale than the sloppy men who were wearing flip flops and backward hats. It was more conservative than the women who wear essentially in pool side attire with spaghetti strap tops and outfits ready for the beach. All this to say, Honor Bar is no longer one of my favorite bars and restaurants in LA since it has become a place where I no longer feel comfortable dining due to the way they singled me out and gave every other customer preferential treatment. read more
