Food is delicious and classic, nothing really unique but always consistent. The service is customer-oriented. They once have a large rice instead of two smalls and then when I came back asking for a second rice, they explained it to me and then provided an additional small rice for the misunderstanding. Polite, professional, and action-oriented the whole way. That earned a lifelong customer. There is not dine in/eating space, but there is space to wait indoor to wait and pay. Their website said they are closed 8/5/25-8/21/25. I ordered online on 8/23/25 but after waiting 2 hours for delivery (I just thought they were extra busy) I called. I just ordered a bunch of stuff from NO1 Chinese, which has been my go to place for some broccoli. Here's what I got this time: 1. 10 piece fried Chinese donuts: an absolute MUST!!! While this is a pretty standard item it is always sooo delicious and decadent. Beautiful, simple, perfection. 2. Egg roll vegetable: this is actually just fried spring rolls there is no egg. It was fine. 3. Diet Steamed Broccoli with side garlic sauce: the broccoli was cooked well and still nicely crunchy. I wasn't a huge fan of the sauce but it wasn't bad. I love the broccoli. 4. Vegetarian "chicken" with general tso sauce: the sauce was very good, the vegetarian chicken had a nice flavor but it was very chewy and hard to eat. I think I'll stick with the tofu next time. 5. Szechuan tofu: the tofu was cut into strips and triangle shapes which was different but tasty. The sauce was okay. I think I would have preferred to get it on the side. 6. French fries: AMAZING!!! I don't know if they were running low on the shoestring shape fry and mixed it with the crinkle cut but having a combination of fry shapes in one order was one of the greatest pleasures imaginable. If this is a consistent thing from them then I would order the fries every single time! Overall I had a good experience trying all these different dishes from NO1 Chinese and I think the restaurant makes a great go-to staple food location. read more

Omg order food as always !!! Ordered it at 7:01 they said be here in 45 minutes ok perfect !!! I got enough time !!! Ok in the shower my hubby on the way home from work texts me as says the the delivery driver is at the door yes yes yes at 7.10pm impossible yes we live a block away but that is not fresh food at all !!! How is that possible ????? Go I'm frustrated I call them and yea refused the food politely that was attempted to be delivered!!!! My order simple but it just seemed off sorry I explain the time etc !!! The guy over the phone was so cruel and mean to me that I just free food !!!! I'm like no then if that was for you the case why didn't I accept the food delivery !!!! So know I'm getting upset because we been going there for many years !!!! I stopped by for lunch doing my neighborhood traveler thing trying new restaurants and this was the place today. The place is small with about three tables in the front windows and the menu is big with all the usual offerings. The place has Christmas decorations hanging from the ceilings and is divish looking. As with most Asian places I visit it's empty and take out is all that's going on with the phones ringing and orders taken. I was back and forth with the Mongolian Beef lunch special or the Singapore chow Mein fun on the menu and the Mongolian Beef lost and I got an order of pork egg rolls. The food was cooked to order fast/hot and I was on my way in 10 minutes. The egg rolls were the smaller ones of today's kind with a golden crunchy shell with mostly veggies in it and just average. The Singapore chow Mein fun is a spicy/curry thin noodles dish with shrimp, chicken and pork basically. The dish had just the right amount of chicken, pork and shrimp so it didn't seem skimpy and spiced nicely. The noodled were cooked perfectly with some firmness left in them with that curry/spicy flavor. Overall this place didn't dethrone my favorite Singapore noodles spot and it was not bad but just average and it didn't really wow me and I'm not saying it's bad at all. This restaurant is less than a mile from my house and it's consistently great. I am super sensitive to the flavor of fish/oyster sauce, and amazingly, this restaurant never seems to flavor (or over-flavor) their food with these items! This makes me so happy. Chicken on a stick- tender, hot, salty and flavorful. Crab rangoons are a deliciously fried classic treat for an appetizer. We love the kung pao beef or chicken with big, fresh peanuts on top and tender crispy pieces of sautéed celery and peppers. Honey chicken, pepper steak with onions, and beef with broccoli are also fantastic. I always get an order of mixed vegetables or steamed vegetables- pea pods, carrots, baby corn, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, water chestnuts... a delicious medley of crispy veggies! The mixed veggie dinner special we got tonight came with fried rice which I haven't ever had before- it was fantastic fried rice. Flavorful, fresh, not too salty. I am always so impressed and pleased by the food, it is always fresh and hot whether we pick it up or have it delivered. Thank you for keeping us well fed with some of our favorite foods! read more

We tried calling in our order, and they only allow you to order through a separate online service. When receiving that order I wanted to point out a few issues. When ordering the coconut shrimp (very false advertising!) it comes with plain fried shrimp and a tub of cold mayo to dip into. No coconut in either shrimp or tub of Mayo. They do not supply any sauces to go with the crab ragoons, or the egg rolls. When the restaurant was able to call to resolve the issue it only made it worse. They stated you needed to ask for the sauces which was not available to click on on the site. She also stated that the coconut shrimp comes standard as just mayo and plain shrimp. This is my go to local chinese carryout restaurant. My aunt got me hooked on them years ago with their General Tso's Chicken. I typically just grab some pot stickers and or egg rolls as a quick meal for 1. But If I am having guests over I love to grab some General Tso's, Egg foo young, pork fried rice, pot stickers, egg rolls etc. I ahev never been let down. The restaurant itself isn't very appealing/clean but the food always lives up to my expectations! Another perk is that they deliver! You do have to meet a minimum amount but for those looking to stay in it is totally worth it. read more

GrubHub charged my card $15 the delivery driver charged me $17 in cash saying it was a cash order ( like I had planned it to bed) Contacted GrubHub and they say per the driver I gave $2 tip only so I ended up paying $32 for your a single General Tso's chicken dinner!! They are not lacking in the confidence department. I haven't tried any other chinese places in the Milwaukee area, but if this is the "No. 1", then the rest must be pretty awful. Their "best wings in the world" were among the worst asian-style wings I've had. They were a little soggy and didn't have a whole lot of flavor to them (which is how I would describe most of their food). The place is close to us, so we've tried it a few times but I've never gotten through an entire meal because it just doesn't taste that great. Their mongolian chicken (or whatever) dish is the only one I've actually finished up as leftovers, so maybe give that one a shot. read more

This is a classic example of a hole in the wall restaurant. I ordered take-out and while I waited, watched customer after customer come in. The screen door banged behind each one, and I felt like I was on a porch in the south during the summer. The food came out quickly and was almost too hot to eat. The cream cheese in the crab rangoons oozed out and I could feel the cholesterol sticking to my unsuspecting arteries. The sesame chicken had a flavorful sauce covering it and the fried rice was delicious. I initially stopped in because I saw they were called "No. 1 Chinese", which is incredibly unimaginative but is the name of a veg-friendly restaurant in Bay View, which offers mock meats. Apparently, the two restaurants aren't affiliated but this place does offer soy chicken in the "VEGETARIA MEATS" section. :) I was annoyed that they wouldn't let me sub soy chicken for one of the 30 $4.50-5 meat lunch specials because they expected me to pay nearly twice that just because they don't offer a veg option. They told me to get the mixed veggie lunch special but that sounded boring. I only had $7, which I told them, and asked if I could get a half order of the veg chicken, which was $9. They weren't interested but finally said they'd make me a small order for $7. They didn't seem happy about it and were sort of rude, but whatever. They also don't have brown rice, which just plain stinks. I got the vegetarian General Tso's chicken, which came w/ a few pieces of broccoli. The soy chicken was a little overcooked and chewy but it wasn't bad. Being spoiled by good NYC vegan food, this place rates pretty low, but given the very limited vegan and fake meat options on Milwaukee's north side, I really appreciate this place having faux chicken and would go back to support them. read more

Ive been there before and never had a problem, but after the reading the reviews I was a little nervous to go back. Despite the reviews I liked it before so I thought I would try it again..It was not good at all, We ordered the General Taos chicken, it was dry and didnt even taste like chicken. We were starving and couldnt even choke it down. We also ordered the eggrolls which were average. I'm a Wauwatosa resident and am very pleased with the food and super fast delivery service of Number One. Their General Tso's Chicken is to die for!!! We just love it. Their other food items are also cooked to perfection. They have extremely fast delivery and their delivery people are top notch. Very friendly. I've never done a pick up at the resuraunt, I've only had them deliver. Number One is mainly geared toward delivery and takeout. It's not a sit down and eat resturaunt. If you love Chinese food you will be very pleased when you order from Number One in Wauwatosa !!! read more

If you are not a meat eater just stick to the veggie fried rice and veggie egg rolls. I had the vegetarian general Tso's chicken and it was the worst thing I've ever put in my mouth! They overcooked it to the point where it was not even edible. I plan to take it back and ask for a refund. I'm so disappointed that they've had this item on the menu for so long and no one had complained enough to make them change their preparation method. The food here is on and off. Most of the time it's good. But we ordered earlier this week and the order was completely wrong. Went again tonight and while the food was correct, the woman who takes orders and runs the restaurant could not have been more rude. They have a plexiglass wall now when you walk in and I couldn't understand what she was asking me, so I told her I couldn't hear her. So she YELLED my phone number to me. When I told her that was my number, she opened the order window and literally tossed the bag at me. As a result, the soy sauce cup broke open and flooded the bag. Ridiculous. read more

Picked up a $75 order last night for a dinner with friends based on a great delivery experience several years ago. The dumplings, Mongolian Beef and fried rice were all good. Wish I would have tasted the Mu Shu chicken and wonton soup. And the kids ate all the chicken nuggets. The portions did not disappoint. We ordered larges and I feel like we got our money's worth. As an out-of-towner I am happy with both of my experiences. This is Americanized Chinese and I'm ok with that. If there was anything I would change it would be better looking nuggets. I ordered a humongous feast on Christmas Day. Delivery took a while but understandably so as apparently lots of people now order Chinese food on Christmas day. No. 1 Chinese did not disappoint. The food was delivered super hot even on the freezing cold day. We ordered four different entrees and some shrimp eggrolls. I am no expert on Chinese food but I can still tell when food is fresh and this was fresh. The shrimp in both the eggrolls and the entrees were large. They were definitely not the tiny shrimp you get in most places. The other impressive part was that the Orange Chicken were crispy (despite delivery) and not cloyingly sweet.
