The food was inspired! We shared a maple brisket donut appetizer--we both loved it. I had pork tacos with street corn. The tacos had the perfect balance of pork, unique vegetables & sauce, definitely gourmet tacos. The corn was sweet, fresh & well seasoned. This was such a good find with south bend! I wasn't sure how busy it would be so I ended up making a reservation online, brunch on Sundays seem to be less busy than I anticipated. Didn't need any reservation. I would've liked to sit outside but it was too hot. However, the interior was superb. The bar was so cute to look at and the decor was great. Service and food were awesome. I ended up getting a brisket, egg, sweet pepper scramble type dish that was fresh and had great flavor. The mimosas were light on juice which is the way I like them. Such a nice looking place. Friendly and prompt staff. The food and concept were both poor in my experience. Daily changing menu? No menu on website or Yelp? Saw a picture of good looking calamari which sounded good but they weren't serving it this day. I had the tuna which thankfully tasted reasonably fresh but wasn't seasoned, just a sesame crust, no ponzu or soy etc left it bland. The rice was jasmine and had turned into overcooked mush with again, no seasoning. If it wasn't so overcooked and had some vinegar, sugar, salt or even some furikake would have made a world of difference. My advice is to stick to Bantams, Roselilly, or Navarre. read more

Awesome place. My gf and I were visiting from Cleveland and the B&B we were staying at recommended No6. Needless to stay we loved it. The staff, the drinks, and especially the food. The idea that they have a different menu everyday is awesome. I had the shrimp and gator and she had the duck. We had the raspberry chocolate cake for dessert. All exceptional. This place is outstanding. The building is an old fire station and both the outside and interior are charming. It is on the small side but it adds to the vibe. I had a prickly pear mojito and it was the best I've ever had, tart flavorful and delicious. The guys had some beers from their extensive list and enjoyed them. The Brussel appetizer was delicious. One of my group had a double bone pork chop with a smoked maple flavor while the other had the Tomahawk Ribeye and they tasted amazing. The pesto chicken was also really good. Among our group of four, we agreed that it was the best meal we had for a long time and while it was pricy, it was worth it. We love the idea that the menu changes so each time you go it would be different. Our waitress Robin was just the right amount of friendly and spot on with her recommendations. OH. I forgot. Highly recommend! The restaurant itself is cozy, and the wait staff are highly attentive. The menu is a bit limited, but they will work with you if you have dietary restrictions. As a scratch kitchen their menu is determined by what is on hand which for me is part of the appeal : all the dishes are locally sourced, freshly prepared and delicious. So the ambience of this place is good. It's an old eclectic building and it has a lot of charm and history. However the food leaves something to be desired. We ordered the brussels sprouts and they were boiled and then pan fried. raw pecans. were placed over them and some strips of bacon. The dish was bland like no effort was taken to season them. In fact most of the the dishes followed suit. The meatloaf was very peppery. The ribeye medallions were tough, not medallions, and were undercooked! finally I'd like to talk about the service. When we were able to place our dinner order, the waitress told us the kitchen was closed off. I asked what does that mean? She said they are not taking any orders. I asked should we leave? She asked me to hold on a moment. Came back and said she was a hero and got our order placed. This was our second visit to this restaurant. The first was far better. Hit or miss. It's a great space and atmosphere. Have had some good dishes, but some nights there's nothing on the menu that appeals. Service can be erratic and slow. More than once we've been served food that was cold. Other times dishes have been overcooked and mushy. I want to like this place because they're trying hard, but the prices are really high for an experience that isn't reliably good. read more

A wonderful restaurant but in a run-down neighborhood. We were driving by on the way to another place to eat and decided to stop. SO glad we did! The wait staff and food were amazing. The chef came out at one point and spoke with each table and seemed genuinely interested in peoples reactions to the night's menu which changes every night. A large drink menu as well. This is a great restaurant in an unlikely section of town. It is housed in a small building with tables with tablecloths inside and comfortable table seating outside. I'd recommend making a reservation. The menu changes daily, therefore, you won't know what they are serving until 4pm that day. I think this is fun. Other might not. There were four of us and we had the bone in pork chop, crab cake, strip steak and venison as our main courses. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portions were very large. The mashed potatoes served with all of the entries were delicious! We started our meal with blueberry goat cheese and the bacon chicken biscuits both lovely! The chef even came out to our table twice once to help deliver our meals and once to check on us after our meals to see how we liked them. They only serve beer, wine and cocktails made from beer and wine - some might see this as a problem - we didn't. We will definitely visit this restaurant again the next time we are in South Bend! read more

I love this place and would highly recommend it. The service is amazing and everyone is so friendly. The atmosphere is lovely and the patio and plants are so pretty. The pork chop was dreamy. I do wish they would offer a bit of BREAD. I am not sure why they don't but it would be so nice to have it along with many things on the menu. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked. I've been driving past this restaurant since the spring and knew it was something I had to check out. It's such a cute building with great outdoor seating- just what I like. The food was amazing! It's a scratch kitchen which means they have a new menu daily. It was on the pricey side, but of course meals of this quality would be. The chef came out to check on us and he was very friendly. Enjoyed a wonderful dinner to celebrate my wife's birthday. Great space in a building with a lot of history. Staff were engaging and friendly. Menu changes frequently. No6, as in Fire Engine House Number 6, was the site of a fine tasting menu event on Sunday. We happened by just as the first course arrived. We were a group of five -- you would think the younger members of the group, two daughters and one son-in-law would have checked the website. Anyway, Kelsey thought they could accommodate us and indeed they all did. We were quickly seated and chef Edward soon had whipped up and personally delivered the first course directly to us. Sommelier Michael kept us all well entertained and informed the rest of the evening, as did the excellent pairings of wine and food. There was just enough summertime evening light for a walk to Leeper Park and back at the end of the evening, as we discussed the event. Kristin and Aaron have promised to report on the regular menu in the near future, the rest of us (from Delaware) will have to wait a bit longer for our second taste.
