Stumbled upon this speakeasy bar in downtown SD, and I am glad I found this place. It is located inside the Neighborhood restaurant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is a spooky, cool vibe; it is very small with very little seating.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Highly recommend making a reservation; otherwise, it is a 1-2 hour wait. I would say this experience was the highlight of my trip. What makes this bar unique compared to other bars is that there isn't a menu. Instead, you would just describe your ideal drink or what you're in the mood for, and the bartender will just make you a drink. The bartender, Quintin killed it with my order. I told him to make me a fruity strong drink, where I can't really taste the alcohol. Amazing experience, i will be back!

Truly a noble idea--and an even better experiment. Noble Experiment is a must-visit in San Diego if you're tired of the same old cocktail menus. Instead of picking a drink, you just describe your "ideal" vibe--the flavors you're into, the spirits you like, and the mood you're after--and the bartenders whip up something unique just for you. My drink was spot on; it's rare to find a place that actually listens and nails the profile that perfectly. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The vibe inside is incredibly cool and intimate, but the best part is the "secret" transition from the outside restaurant.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Speaking of which, the food at the main restaurant is actually top-tier, so it makes for a solid full night out. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you want a bespoke drink in a space that feels genuinely hidden away, this is the spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

The Noble Experiment: 9/10 [[HIGHLIGHT]]Aesthetic & Ambiance: 9.5 - This place gives "speakeasy haunted mansion" vibes. You walk into the barrels, down the mirrors, and into the skull room...IYKYK no less.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The waits to get very deadly so make sure to put your name on the list early. Service: 9/10 The host was chill, and we had Quintin as our mixologist. There are no menus he told us, he just went off of our flavors, and palate, so I can't really speak for how to order the same drink. First drink: 9/10 (profile) Vodka bases with cucumber and strawberry. Second drink: 8.5/10 (profile) Smokey, deep old fashion. Overall a MUST-GO to if you're in the area stopping by!

[[HIGHLIGHT]]This is a cool downtown speakeasy located inside The Neighborhood restaurant and bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The entrance is hidden behind a door that looks like a wall of kegs.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] No reservations are needed for this experience, however there is usually a wait. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor inside is really cool and every inch from floor to ceiling is decorated.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are no menus here. Your bartender will ask you a series of questions to find out what your tastes are and then will perfectly craft a cocktail that is tailored to you. I went with two friends this time, and we each had two drinks. Every drink we got was perfect for us and fit our individual tastes dead on. Go check this place out for yourself if you haven't already!

Worth the wait! [[HIGHLIGHT]]An amazing experience coming here, loved the ambiance, great for smaller parties or date night.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I really liked the experience, and i applaud the bartender on his knowledge and creativity with making drinks. We chatted for a bit to discussion my preferences and he came out with an amazing drink! Definitely bookmarking this place and coming back

Amazing experience! [[HIGHLIGHT]]Besides the very cool decor and vibes, our bartender, Nicole, was wonderful.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There are no menus here. You describe what you like in a drink, and the bartender will make you a drink based on those preferences. My friends and I have very different tastes, and Nicole absolutely nailed all of them. Highlight of the weekend and definitely recommend if you're in the area.

Noble Experiment was a unique experience, no doubt. After the Padre's game, we walked over to Neighborhood to grab some appetizers. Youngblood was booked for the night, but we were able to grab a reservation for Noble. The ambiance gave "libation library" and they have framed paintings all over the ceiling. The music was ON POINT, and they played some of my favorite artists - Larry June, Badu, Dom Kennedy (Just so you know what type of time they on). The concept is dope! You tell the mixologist your favorite spirits, fruits, or spices, and they curate a cocktail for you. The mixologist made me a cocktail that taste like a boozy fruit roll up, and it was fantastic. Definitely add this to your "must try" speakeasys in downtown San Diego.

This place was pretty cool, there was no menus and the bartender will ask you questions of what flavor profiles you enjoy, and he will make up a cocktail for you right in front of you. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambience was nicely dimmed.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They didn't have any food, but we definitely enjoyed the drinks.

So, I'm not usually into bars that aren't also restaurants, but this place is amazing. [[HIGHLIGHT]]First, it's fun to go through the "secret" entrance in the back.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We had hear that if you get there right when they open at 6PM there won't be a wait and we found this was correct! [[HIGHLIGHT]]It is a small place and fills up fast.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The atmosphere is fun with a "spooky" vibe with the skull wall, cobwebs on the chandelier and portraits on the ceiling.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The bartenders are amazing. There is no menu; you describe what you like and they run ideas by you to create your ideal cocktail and my gosh do they nail it. I am not exaggerating when I say these were some of the best cocktails I've had in my life. They make a lot of the ingredients in house and it shows. The flavor combinations are amazing. I had an herb-citrus negroni like first round and a gin, herb, cucumber second round. I almost never have a second cocktail but this was such a unique experience. Cost is the same for anything they put together so no worries about ending up with a $50 cocktail based on what the bartender makes. Definitely a must visit place if you're in the area and in the mood for a creative cocktail or two. Lots of options for food nearby for before or after your cocktail experience!

Parking is super tough in the area, better to rideshare or pay for parking in an ACE lot nearby. We were able to walk in without a reservation for bar seating. Walk in through Neighborhood and they will point you to the speakeasy which is behind the barrel doors near the restrooms. The interior is beautiful. Don't forget to snap a photo of or in front of the skull wall! Very impressive. The space is very small, not good for large parties. They have bar seating and bench style seating. Some of the seats at the bar are directly facing the AC vent so I got very cold very quickly. There is no menu. You let your bartender know your spirit of choice and flavor profile and they craft the drink in front of you. Each drink was $18. I asked for a sweet drink. My drink was rum based but was a tad too bitter. Friend asked for something light and refreshing. They said theirs tasted like medicine, very herbally, but they liked it. It was very bitter. Both drinks were very strong. Be sure to eat before coming as they do not offer food.

Place was so good I came in on back to back days! Service is impeccable, staff are very helpful and talkative and make drinks very, very strong.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]I thought the vibes were really cool and the concept of the bartenders making drinks based off what you're feeling was interesting.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] However, I'm not too sure if I'd come again. Maybe we went on a really busy night because it took like an hour to get sat as a party of 4 without reservation and our bartender only came to us to get vibes for our first and only drink, drop it off, and give us the check. It did seem really busy as the bartenders were entertaining the people sat at the bar counter, but my group at the table were down to order more given we waited that long to get sat. Parking in the area is also pretty rough as other people say. Despite all that, our guy really did a phenomenal job making my drink LOL

One of two small speakeasy's in The Neighborhood. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Noble experiment has a wall covered in skulls across from its bar.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There is bar seating and a row of small tables.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They don't take reservations for parties less than four, but we had no wait going on a Sunday evening. There is also no menu and you just tell the bartenders what flavors and spirits you like. There were two bartenders working. I was underwhelmed by my first drink as it tasted like Moscow mule to me. My second drink was more unique, but I didn't love it. It is a cool place to go for a drink and it wasn't too expensive for what it is. It was about $19 per cocktail before tip.

Ask the Community - Noble Experiment

How do I make a reservation?

Do they do reservations for a party of 2?

    Not anymore, just a waitlist

    Is there a drink minimum?

I do not think there’s a set minimum. Once your party is settled in, yohr server comes over to discuss your preferences etc, and returns to the bar to make them. They will adjust your drink and change whatever you didn’t like so that you can be…

    Do they take walk ins?

Yes we walked in but had to wait about 15-20 minutes. It will depend on the time etc

Are Fridays walk-ins only? We weren't able to find any Friday reservations all month.

Weekend reservations are typically made in advance, especially in summer but I've always been able to walk in. The wait time is usually 1 hour.

Hello, how can I make reservation for 4/27?

Looks like they're fully booked on 4/27. Check open table for reservation openings, or show up on 4/27 and hope there's eventually an opening

Hi, we're celebrating 2 birthdays tomorrow night & have a reservation for 4 guests at 6pm. Question is, will we be allowed to hang out in the skull room? Last time I was there & made reservations, you guys asked for a credit card. Open Table didn't?

Hi! I'm hosting out-of-town guests and would love to reserve a spot at the Noble Experiment. How far in advance can we make reservations? I'm looking for a Friday night in December. Just 3 of us ladies looking for some swanky drinks. Thx!

Is it by reservation only? Can we order drinks and just stand or do you need to have a table?

Hi Jennifer, We take reservations Sunday-Thursday for groups of 5 or less. Reservations can be…

What is the dress code for a 6pm summertime reservation a few days before SDCC?

Hi Shea! We do not have a dress code. However, we do have guests that dress up, but we also have…

I'm kind of thrown off by the reviews suggesting to get reservations for this cocktail bar. The Yelp page says no reservations but there are people saying that they got reservations?

Hi Crystal, Noble Experiment accepts reservations for groups of 5 or less Sunday through…

Is it reservation only? What are the odds of walking in (since online won't let me make a reservation for a large -or any size for that matter- party) and getting a spot for 6?

They don't take large parties (from my experience). I'd say 3 is the max... their tables are pretty small!

Do you need reservations for a party of two?

Hello Wendy! Thank you for reaching out. We take walk-ins on a first come first serve basis

    Can I wear a hat?

Yes I would say so- I'm not positive but this location is a bit more causal and everyone is so nice! I do not think that would be a problem.

What's the average price per drink?

For most cocktails, it's $15. If you ask for a specific brand of hard liquor to be mixed in, it could be more expensive.

Why does OpenTable only allow reservations of 2 people?

Do we need to make a reservation?

I went about a month ago and they were taking walk-ins, would highly recommend making reservations though ahead of time.

Can we bring our 11 month old daughter with us?

No, it is only a bar so only 21+

    Do they serve food?

No, noble experiment only offers water and alcoholic beverages. If you are looking for food you can get some outside at the neighborhood bar.

    Are you open?

Actually, we are not. We are currently undergoing some exciting and overdue renovations and riding out the COVID wave before reopening our door.

It's cozy, intimate, and unlike any other place I've been to in San Diego. Reservations are definitely worth making since the space is on the smaller side and fills up quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while the experience and ambiance were amazing, the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. I understand you're paying for the craftsmanship and atmosphere, but it's probably not somewhere I'd visit regularly because of that. It's common for tiki bars to be pricey so it was to be expected. Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to experience False Idol. We were all spread out so not sure what it could have been given we ate a few different items. - OVERALL - It was a cool vibe and they have some good tasting items, but considering a few of us got sick, I'm a bit wary to come back.

Good Enough Cocktail Club has opened in the large suite across the plaza from the vacant hall where a couple of restaurants from the previous ownership failed to thrive. The new management has experience operating multiple ventures in the SD area including a popular bar in Carlsbad. I had already eaten dinner, and it was getting late so this was a quick stop for a small bite only. The place was fairly quiet with the outside patio empty, a few patrons entrenched at the bar, and a group seated at one of the small tables to the right when you walked in. As part of the ambiance, there were some vintage speakers and a record player set up to spin some vinyl on busier nights. Two of the menu pages were dedicated to cocktails which were $14 each with over a dozen varieties. Beer, wine, and sake made up two other pages while the rest was dedicated to food. Those offerings consisted of bar bites and tapas. I picked the Chicken Empanadas for my order. Two pastries were stuffed with spicy chicken that sat on top of a bed of arugula. A cup of chimichurri was provided for dipping. The empanadas were each cut in half on the plate. I found them to be fairly ordinary in terms of taste and quality. Since I didn't purchase a drink, I can't comment on that aspect of the business. What did annoy me was that a customer wandered outside on the patio to wait for her order and began puffing a cigarette. The smoke odor was very noticeable from where I sat. The ventilation either needs to improve, or they should inform smokers to light up farther away from the entrance. The rating for my experience at Good Enough Cocktail Club was good enough for three stars.

I parked on the street close to the dinner spot I went to and then walked over to Charade. Ambiance (5/5): Charade is a speakeasy so here's your clue. It's located inside Balboa. Look for the room with the arcade games and you're on the right track. Once you enter the speakeasy, you'll immediately be impressed with the old school charm. It seats roughly 20-30 people and there's a bar on one end and a stage on the other end. Old school red curtains add to the vibe. And here's the best part. On Mondays, it's jazz night. Local musicians will play which makes for a great time. Service (3/5): There was one bartender working when we were there. Overall, she provided pretty good service. There was one comment she made which rubbed me the wrong way but no biggie. Food (N/A): I had dinner prior so were on a liquid diet. I did notice that they have a few snacks available like popcorn. Drinks (4.5/5): When you think of speakeasies, you think of elevated cocktails. I look for creativity and an interesting blend of flavors and ingredients. The menu here, while not huge, has some interesting options. Outside of the menu itself, the prices are reasonable (especially for California). And they make you stiff drinks which is always appreciated. Taking into account the cocktails and the ambiance, Charade is an awesome laid-back speakeasy. Make sure to stop by on a Monday for jazz night. That takes things up a notch.
