And my friends ordered margaritas which they liked. The fish in the fish tacos was really fresh and delicious and I got the wedge salad with fired chicken, which was just enough for me. Nomad is one of the places in Salt Lake that you hear about constantly. They are flying high, great reviews from word of mouth and via Yelp, even though their location is less than convenient - so that's excellent! Needless to say, it took me forever to stop in. And I enjoyed my visit, but it left me with some *extreme* mixed feelings. Nomad has a very modern, and open set up. You order directly as you come in, and sit down and wait for your food. They have a selection of sauces for toppings (EVOO, Balsamic, Chili Oil, normal ketchup/mustard, etc) near the silver wear, and water. The bar is viewable from any distance, but only caters to those 21+, ya know, per the usj. I took a minute to look over any drink I'd be interested in trying, decided to opt out today, and went straight for the Garden Party sandie... veganized. I was previously told by a friend to go with the fries, so I order them as well, a $2 extra fee. So here is where I have mixed feelings. The sandwich came out in all it's $10 glory.. and I immediately knew it was overpriced. The measly side of fries was ridiculous, and shouldn't have had an extra charge. As I bit in, I found this sandwich, though named "Garden Party" completely lacked the garden. There were sprouted lentils, zucchini, spread, an some greens on it. That was it. No garden. No tomato, shredded carrot, beets, no onions, peppers, anything. For $10 this sandwich lacked A TON. And I'm sorely disappointed by the fillings of it. That being said, I thought about this sandwich constantly - and I mean, CONSTANTLY - for the next few days, and wanted more. Ergo, mixed feelings. My friend had ordered their Greek Salad, and we also found it extremely lacking in toppings. For a "Greek" salad, there were no olives, feta, peppercinis, tomatoes. I just feel Nomad need to bulk up what they are providing for their vegan/veggie friends, or those not ordering their famous Spicy Chicken Sandwich. I want to try Nomad again....but I'd be going in, and asking for MORE veggies in my "Garden" Party sandwich, and would have to pay even more for something that shouldn't start at $10 to begin with. Honestly, all the food was good here, but you probably are going to hear more about that chicken than anything and it's going to overshadow the pizza things going on, the other sandwiches, the falafel, and other creative explorations on the menu. You're also going to hear stuff about the weird location. That's not wrong, either. It's somewhat strange indeed, out by the airport like that. But if you're in downtown SLC, it's not too far of a drive. And if you're staying out near the airport (hi, tourists!) then there is absolutely no question that this restaurant is your salvation and your only true destination. Plus, they had Normal Ice Cream confections last time I was there, and that's just the icing on the cake. When is that hot chicken going to show up on a pizza? It's no wonder Nomad Eatery has 5 stars on Yelp and it's no wonder I am giving them another 5 Star review. I was blown away by every aspect of this establishment. For starters, the service was top notch. The man who took our order was so happy and kind. He also did everything in his power to try to accommodate us and our one-year-old. Even though they didn't have crayons or anything to distract our baby while we waited for our food, he took the time to look for something she could draw with when we asked and wasn't even put off by the request. We ordered our food and sat down. A few minutes into waiting, one of the employees, Christian, informed us that our pizza orders were going to take a bit longer because a big order of pizzas had come in just before ours. He offered to bring us something to eat while we waited. When we asked for fries, he didn't even hesitate. The fries were delicious, thin and crispy and loaded with salt! My favorite. When our pizzas finally came (it wasn't even a long wait), they seemed to forget about our order of fish tacos too. Because they didn't come right at the same time, Christian again offered to bring us dessert after our meal because of the inconvenience (which wasn't even much of an inconvenience). The food was mindblowing. The Children of the Corn Pizza was one of the best pizzas I have ever eaten. The flavor was unreal! Our Margherita pizza was also delicious and so were the fish tacos. Everything was filling and the very fresh! I was also extremely impressed with the price. For the service, quality of food, and the ambiance I would have expected to pay $15-$25 per person. Although this restaurant is on the pricier side (especially on the alcohol- $9 for one can of cider ouch!) the food is fresh and you can literally see it being made in front of you. I've enjoyed eating their pizzas and salads and I haven't been disappointed. The Betty white in particular is sooooo good. Arugula garlic sauce and pickled cauliflower- yum! The place is a mix of sit down and fast dining. You come in and order from a cashier take a number and then grab your plates from a bin near the door. One of the local magazines concluded that Nomad has the best hot chicken sandwich in town. As a true fan of Pretty Bird, I had to taste for myself. And man, that local magazine had it all wrong. The reason I didn't like Nomad's hot chicken was because the fried chicken itself didn't have as much crunch, flavor and spice compared to its competitor and relied too much on the sauce to bring those factors in. There was way too much bun and the slaw just wasn't all that flavorful and didn't add to the profile. We also got the Korean chicken wings and as a Korean, I wasn't impressed. And for my husband, a non-Korean, he wasn't impressed either. Again, the flavor was just lacking. Nothing spectacular and nothing memorable. I don't have much to say about the location, except that it's off the beaten path out there but I'm sure the rest of civilization will eventually spread out that way. A surprising and delightful find on North Temple, located in a renovated, but fairly nondescript building tucked away behind the massive Radisson hotel. Items like hot wings, a burger and wood-fired pizza are on the menu, but also a few twists, like a lovely roasted beet salad with granola, to pique your tastebuds. Stopped here after landing at the nearby SLC airport. I got the spicy chicken sandwich and paid the $4 to upgrade the chips to loaded fries. Definitely worth the $4! Lots of cheese and bacon on top. My only complaint would be that they are very (very) salty. The sandwich is very good. If you like spicy food, you will love it. I can't take too much spice so it was a bit much after a few bites. And this sandwich is huge - two people could share it. My bf got the fish sandwich and the regular fries. There were just a few fries. I thought this was odd since the fries were plentiful in the loaded fries. The bf really liked the fish sandwich but I thought the very bitter kale overpowered the mild flavor of the fish. We were very excited to try Nomad and had heard great things. And I was especially excited to try their pizza because Im a SUCKER for honey on za. But they just fell short. Why? Bees knees -- honestly wonderful toppings. The taste was fantastic. But my experience was ruined because the crust felt extremely cheap. It was like I was eating pizza out of the freezer aisle. It honestly ruined the pizza for me. But again, toppings were on fleek. Pulled pork sandy -- again, good subtle flavors, throughout the sandwich with the pickled celery, but the bun felt and tasted stale while the whole sandwich was dry. I'm not sure if they put any sauce on the sandwich but it DEFINITELY needed more. It felt like we were eating a French dip with no au jus sauce, which is obviously pointless. I really liked Nomad Eatery! At first I was a little lost in finding this place since its close to the airport and I was envisioning it more downtown SLC. Buuuut its okay cause ultimately i found it and came hungry. I love that they have collaborated with other food trucks and made this their own little dine and dive kinda restaurant. First off I LOVE the chicken sandwich. Omg the chicken is fried to perfection and its sooo juicy. I also love their pizza and i'm a little saddened that I was too full to experience the desserts... but ill definitely be coming back to grab some!! As for the food we tried: Wings - Both the Korean and Buffalo were excellent. The Buffalo wings are really spicy, so take that into consideration! Chicken sandwich - awesome. Secret menu fries: not yet on the menu, this plate had gravy, house-made ricotta, and American cheese. The fries are double-fried which gives them that perfect crunchy shell with a soft interior. Great date night with delicious food in an out of the way location. We visited sugar house, downtown SLC and finished here. My husband loved the decor and feel and music. It was relaxing and fun. We have the citrus wings instant 5 stars and the next day cold they were still fabulous. Our second favorite was the betty white pizza with squash. Super tasty sauce and lots of arugula. We also enjoyed the beet salad. My husband loved it all but I wasnt sure about the added granola and might have preferred it warm. The blend of sweet creamy cheese and tart balsamic flavors though was excellent. The only disappointment was the loaded fries which were not that loaded and lukewarm at best. The location is perfect for peripatetics and anyone, on the Westside, that wants a delightful dining experience. The decor and ambience is beautiful with infused modern and rustic charm. Once you walk in, order your meal, and seat yourself. Condiments and utensils are available at a nearby station. The food was resplendent in its presentation and, mostly, in flavor. Wedge salad is delicious... about half salad and half crispy onions! (If that doesn't sound appealing, skip it... but I loved it.) I almost didn't order bc I'm a lazy diva and don't like cutting my own wedge salad... but they offered to send it to me chopped. Spicy chicken sandwich was solid. Thick slab of tender chicken. S'mores dessert, mmm! Marshmallow (made in house, I assume) was special. Only downside is it was a little hard to eat...when marshmallow got cold it was hard to break off. So with tip it was $67 for a very mediocre meal, 2 hop risings, wings, chicken sandwich with fries, and a pizza. Pizza was on the burnt side, we took it home and threw it away unfortunately. Looking at the photos they all kinda look like that though. Wigs were there, and for some reason we were missing one wing and they would bring it out later, super weird to be served one wing way later. No one is going to eat that. Speculative wing. Thanks yelp! I really appreciate the reviews because this is a hidden gem near the airport. My flight was an hour delayed. Luckily I received the notification prior to returning the rental car, so I decided to boycott the terrible airport food and go somewhere else. This was nearby enough so that I did not need to re-fuel after visiting. I just went straight to the airport! Being my first time at this place, the cashier was very patient with me. I confirmed the broccolini and burrata was not a salad per se (listed under that category), but instead a plate of both. The cashier explained the loaded fries were like poutine, and intrigued, I decided to go ahead and order. They come with bacon, so that's a win already right? The broccolini and burrata was delicious. It was exactly as I expected and reminiscent of my trip of Italy. The broccolini was crispy and not soggy (hate soggy broccolini), and the burrata...OMG I think they could just serve a plate of 3 of them alone, and it would be delicious. Burrata is one of my favorite cheeses. I would not be surprised if you could order the burrata alone off-menu or add to another salad/fries. Yum! The loaded fries were perfect. I have been to Montreal, and if you are going to do poutine wrong, this is the place to do it. This is a bit different because the cheese used is not the same as Montreal, and the gravy is a turkey gravy, but it's delicious. The fries stayed crispy the entire time while I was working, which is a miracle in my opinion. This probably has to be the best mock poutine I have eaten in the USA! The first dish took about 10 minutes to arrive, and the second dish arrived 5 minutes later. There is a free water jug along with utensils, etc. at a station next to the water. I'm so glad I was famished after getting off the plane or I may never have found this place! After landing and the hubby picked me up I immediately searched for places nearby that were on the way home and this new spot popped up. We had just gotten on the 215 so we just got off the first exit and back tracked a bit to find this hidden gem. Though I'm sure it is not hidden for all the offices in the area. It is so open and welcoming inside and the decor is a great mix of industrial and art deco and I love the aprons the staff wear ---almost like a cobbler or leather worker type with the pockets toward the neck. The menu is on a large felt board behind the register and there is a full bar off to the right and a small fireplace in the front. I love the open kitchen space and the brick oven. This is the type of place you order first and get a number and they bring your food to the table but still get great friendly service and the restaurant feel. I ordered the smoked turkey sandwich (minus the bacon, onion and Fritos (though I'm sure those all add killer flavor and crunch to the sandwich)). I didn't even realize it came with chips until the order came out. The sandwich came on a wheat bread that was so soft I could have eaten it alone. The turkey was thin sliced and fresh with just the right amount of Smokey flavor. The black bean hummus was a great addition to the sandwich instead of mayo, but was a bit too spicy for me (You know I'm a spice wimp). The chips were made fresh and were a salt and malt vinegar flavor. A total surprise when I took the first bite and so interesting. A little too salty for me but that's only because I don't eat chips often anymore. Otherwise I would have been all over that. Not too often you find places that make things fresh in house so I'm all about this. My husband ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and the loaded fries. The general manager David brought out our meals and warned my husband to squish down the sandwich before he tries to take a bite or it will go all over. The sandwich looks like what you see on t.v. when food artists make food look way better than what you actually buy, except this was the real deal. Your eyes aren't deceiving you. This big beautiful sandwich is actually as good as it looks, and yes, squish it down before you eat it and grab plenty of napkins. It is moist and thick and plump and juicy and it is made with the chicken thigh dark meat so it is packed with flavor and goodness, but also a bit on the fatty side which is bound to happen with thigh meat. The batter on the outside was nice and crispy; the fry was perfect not over or under done; and the spicy sauce doused over it was on the mild side around the Frank's side of the spectrum (more of a sweet heat than a hot heat). But they have a rack of hot sauce near the tables should you decide to turn it up a notch. We watched them pressing the fries fresh and they were the perfect shoestring size and they were crispy but not too crunchy with a nice chewy center. The loaded fries could be a meal in itself! They came with a slice of cheese on top with the heat sauce in the bottom with bacon bits and chives and sour cream on top(it's like the fixins for a baked potato but on the fries). The dish comes in two bowls for a reason though...that top bowl is hot...dont grab it!! David was great checking on us throughout the meal and chatting with us. After reading Yelp reviews, my friend and I stopped here directly after picking up our rental before driving out of Salt Lake City. This was our first introduction on how friendly and hospitable people in Utah are. The menu had some unique items that all looked tasty and they also have a full bar attached to the eatery (must be 21 and over to sit on that side). I ordered a Salt Lake City beer, blackberry sour. If you like sour beers, you'd enjoy it! My friend ordered an Amber Ale from Moab Brewery. We had no trouble finishing our drinks. We shared "children of the corn" pizza and spicy chicken sandwich to share. Both had unique delicious flavors. If you are in Salt Lake City or fly into Salt Lake and want a bite to eat before leaving Salt Lake, I highly recommend stopping here for a beer and their food. Also, the nicest people work here! They really explained some dishes we asked about and all of the people working there really seemed to enjoy being there. I would stay in the sub-par Radisson again just to be able to walk across the street and pick up food from them. My only suggestion would be to add sweet potato fries to the menu.
