I rarely write Yelp reviews, but I had to for this one. My friend and I were craving Mediterranean food and stumbled upon this gem with 5 stars on Yelp. We came on a Wednesday around 4pm and had the whole place to ourselves. The restaurant had a cozy vibe indoors, but we decided to eat outside since it was a nice day We ordered the Kofte Plate, and WOWW, it was juicy, flavorful, and super filling. Each bite was seasoned perfectly. We also ordered Hummus, and the owner/chef Hassan generously let us try a few other sauces on the same plate, which were all delicious. We can really taste the care and authenticity in everything he makes For dessert, we planned to get 2 Kunefes, but Hassan suggested to switch it up and try 1 Kunefe and 1 Katmer instead, and I'm so glad we listened. The Kunefe was fresh, crunchy, and perfectly balanced with syrup (not overly sweet, but just right). The Katmer (thin pastry with pistachio filling) was something I've never had before and it was very delicious I've tried a couple Mediterranean spots, but this is hands down one of my favorites. The flavors, the hospitality, the authenticity 10/10 food and 10/10 service. It reminded me of when I visited Turkey. This place truly deserves the 5 star rating. Their sesame bread is the best bread I have tasted at any restaurant and reminds me a lot of old-style Chinese shao-bing. Complimentary black tea after the meal with a blend of three teas grown on the owner's farm. Super aromatic and fragrant with just the right amount of astringency to help clean your palate after the grilled meats. The portion size is just right and you never feel hungry or stuffed. This family owned restaurant is located in the heart of Redwood City downtown. There are plenty of parking spots available around this establishment. They offer indoor and outdoor dining. We were greeted and seated by the friendly owner upon entering this restaurant. We ordered the mezze combination ,chicken kebab, Turkish coffee, and Turkish tea. The mezzo combination was a huge platter of hummus, olives, yogurt, pickled cabbage, pickled cucumbers, garbanzo beans, pickles, and pomegranates. It was nicely plated and garnished. It also came with a basket of warm housemade bread that we really liked. The chicken kebab was tender and juicy. It was also well seasoned. The rice and salad went well with the kebabs. The Turkish coffee is pretty strong and the Turkish tea was fragrant. During our meal, we chatted a bit with the kind owner. They had been in business for only three months. Second visit here for a lunch on weekend afternoon. Wasn't very busy so we got a table outside without problems. We ordered a pide and the chicken kebab. With a lemonade and an Ayran. It came with five pieces, rice, another grain and salad. everything was delicious, I just wish that the salad had a little bit more acidity in the dressing. The Nomadic pide was also very flavorful and had a nice crisp. It was really great with the different dips from the mezze combo too. Got the mezze combination with four selections: hummus, ezma, tzatziki, and cucumber salad. They were served with small portions of the other selections, which was a very nice surprise. Nomadic kitchen has a great selection of dishes in Turkish cuisine. Owner/chef is such a friendly person which makes the visit a really nice experience. We tried lahmacun and icli köfte at our visit. Lahmacun was crunchy and tasty. However, it was a bit oily for my taste and arrived cold. They let us customize icli kofte cooking style so we tried one boiled and one fired. I think boiled version better - fried version was unfortunately broken. I think the part that needs most improvement is the service. Food was quite delayed and so was the check. It is a small venue but they are struggling to keep up with the high demand. All tables were full when we visited so they had a lot of customers to deal with, experience might be different on a weekday night. read more

The kebabs were made with ground lamb, beef and herbs and came served with a salad and two starches: one is a red bulgur pilaf and the other is a rice pilaf with şehriye - a toasted, orzo-like pasta. The kebabs were juicy on the inside and well cooked. I preferred the bulgur pilaf over the rice pilaf because it had more flavor and spices. The mezze combination was fun. This is easily some of the best and most authentic Mediterranean food I've had on the Peninsula. The pictures speak for themselves! ​The Mezze Platter was a standout. It wasn't just hummus and pita; it was a thoughtfully curated plate with a wide variety of tastes--pickled items, savory beans, different creamy dips, and even sweet figs. Absolutely delicious! Can for a lunch with the husband and was really glad we came. We shared a babaganoush (comes with bread) and the lamb skewer plate. The babaganoush tasted perfectly and the owner was also nice enough to give us a taste of the other appetizers, which I appreciate because I love tsaziki. The lamb skewer was cooked to perfection, medium, delicious, and plentiful of food. My favorite though.. was the dessert, Katmer. I almost didn't get it, but am SO glad I did. Thin layers of dough with a pistachio layer and this unique butter/cream called kaymak (made in house). I 100% recommend this place for lunch, a snack, or dinner. Finally ended up getting here and was luckily q bit before the dinner rush. Was quiet then but had every seat in the house full by 7:30 with a line waiting. It was a first time there and tried their lentil soup and their lahmacun Waiter has suggested the second. The lentil soup was well made though not quite my taste (needed something a bit for texture). The lahmacun was a neat new experience and quite tasty. Appreciated the waiter giving a tip on best way to enjoy it. My partner can't have gluten and had most of the menu as an option still. She had the lamb kebab and really enjoyed it. Will be back. Regret not getting by sooner. We have a great dining scene and always a challenge making room. read more

But, a very kind lady from the resto next door (May's) came by to refill our water glasses and offer TT water. I later found out the owners of Nomadic Kitchen also own May's Vietnamese Restaurant next door. Sometimes you serendipitously run into amazing people doing great things. Today was one of those days at Nomadic Kitchen. I'll focus on the review, but encourage you to chat with Hassan (owner/front of house) when you invariably eat here. His story is inspiring and the outcome he has created speaks for itself. Nomadic Kitchen is a casual, authentic Turkish restaurant where the menu may not look unique, but the preparation and flavors are exemplary. Indeed, you will see most of the same menu items at other places including take out stands. Don't be fooled. The food here is at least one level above. Tbh, I came in to have pide but got distracted by the lahmacun and went with that instead. I enjoy the uniqueness of Turkish spices and this did not disappoint. Light crisp flatbread with lots of spices and some ground beef and lamb. A simple salad and some lemon to wrap inside the flatbread was tasty! As the restaurant was emptying at 1:30 on a Monday, Hassan brought me a small sampler of his mezzes to try. Actually there were ten of them on the plate. To top it off, he insisted I try some of his special bread. After tasting these, I stopped eating my lahmacun and wished I had just ordered mezzes! The bread was pretty great - light, crisp on the outside, fluffy inside and perfect for mezze dipping. Apparently it is a style of bread only made during Ramadan in Turkey that takes three days to ferment. He makes it everyday for his customers. Everything here is homemade and he makes dozens of different mezzes depending on what ingredients are fresh. He uses butcher (premium) cuts of meat for his kebabs and kofte. Service was prompt, friendly and generous. Pricing was more than fair for the quality of food. The dining area is not particularly special - it is a casual place - but it is comfortable and bright. You aren't coming here for the ambiance, you are coming for the food! My mistake was eating solo. Going with group would allow you to try much more of the menu. Highly recommend Nomadic Kitchen. Go there with some friends and order lots of mezzes with bread and whatever you are in the mood to eat. I suspect every item on the menu is prepared with care. Try it! read more

My husband has been raving about this place since he first tried it a few months ago. He's invited friends to dinner here as well. Finally tonight I had the opportunity to try the food at Nomadic Kitchen. It did not disappoint. My husband and friend ordered the chicken and beef kebob. I decided to order the Mezze Combination along with a side of falafel (came with 4) as my dinner instead of a usual entree of kebob etc. They have lots of mezzes to choose from and you can order the combination plate with choosing 4,6 or all. I opted for the all so that my husband and friend could also have some. The kebobs were enjoyed along with the mezze sampler. Husband and friend devoured the kebobs. I enjoyed trying each flavor of my mezze plate with the bread provided. I could easily share it even though that was my dinner. We even had left overs. Let me just start by saying this is the best Turkish food I've ever had. I tried the Lamachun recommended by my waiter. The Hummus was great. The chef presented a beautiful Mezze Combination plate.
