The atmosphere was very nice, seated along the tall sloping windows facing the lake. We ordered the rabbit and pork sausage starter, one order of uni sashimi, and the shared Wagyu tomahawk steak, paired with a 1999 Damilano Barolo. The rabbit sausage was good, and the sauce was even better. The rabbit to pork ratio might have been a bit high, and could have benefited, possibly, from the sausages being smaller in diameter. Either way, this was a good appetizer. Then came the wait. We waited, and waited. I was curious why the uni dish was taking so long to arrive. After waiting at least thirty minutes our waiter said that the steak should be up shortly. I asked him if the uni would be coming out soon and he replied, "Yes, this usually takes around forty-five minutes to prepare and will be ready shortly." Initially confused at his response I realized that he thought I was asking about the steak. A minute later two plates were placed on our table and following another short wait a large bone-in steak, pre-sliced, was placed at the center of our table. "Can you please cancel the uni order since I was wanting that as an appetizer?" I asked the smiling waiter. He instantly realized the mistake and apologetically agreed to cancel the order of uni, which I assume was never actually entered into the system. When ordering, our waiter explained that the steak would be prepared medium rare. When the steak arrived, some slices were definitely medium rare, but nearly half of the slices had little to no pink at all. The steak had a very good flavor, but I cannot describe it as incredible. When the waiter asked about our steak, my wife replied "the flavor is very good but it is over cooked." The waiter gave no response to this comment. The sides which came with the steak were whipped mashed potatoes and sautéed wild mushrooms. Both sides were very good. After our meal, the waiter brought us two desserts, on the house, and said "these are two desserts that the chef is working on." This was an attempt to make good on the missing uni, and possibly the overcooked steak. We certainly appreciated the complimentary desserts. One was a ricotta cheese 'log', beautifully plated with little slabs of gram cracker resembling the log bark, in a cherry sauce with edible flowers. This dessert was by far the best dish we enjoyed at NoMI. The other dessert, more difficult to describe, was also very good. The one problem I have with this 'compensation' technique, is that it removed our ability to choose a dessert. The choice was made for us. We never had a chance to even look at the dessert menu. Even though NoMI lost its Michelin star years ago, I have to say that our experience there, while not great, was better than our recent experiences at Michelin Star Everest and Blackbird. I would give this review 2.5 stars if I could. Since I can't, I'll have to round up. read more

waste of time. upset stomach from their steak tartar.... standard hotel type of restaurant...can not believe all the rave was for nothing -- almost for nothing. went for lunch today. burger 800 -- delicious. the only bright spot at lunch. the sweet fries it came with were cool temperature, and felt like they were sitting in the kitchen for a while.... steak tartar - one of the worst i have had and well, messed up my stomach. my son's sushi - the waiter said their sushi is great...i found it expensive and not really fresh. mushroom soup, again highly recommended by the waiter - was meh at best.. skipped the desert... nice view if you are by the window or i assume in the garden... they have a real nice website and we were all excited to go there....overall a pretty mediocre place... mehran read more

Um, I love Nomi, especially the Sushi. Stayed here last week and decided to grab a lunch around 2-3pm at the Bar. Well, the inside bar was closed. huh? The patio was insanely hot. I don't know how the servers work out there. I was planning on staying here again in August but without a place to eat in the afternoons I'll be looking elsewhere. Isn't this a five star hotel? Shouldn't there be the option to eat inside on a crazy hot afternoon? That and the hostess seemed really annoyed that I was confused that I didn't have the option to eat indoors. In Los Angeles there are cool water spritzer things cooling the air and outdoor ceiling fans with gigantic umbrellas. Really? Observations: Lots of fancy hats. Douchebags with polo attire. Not Polo shirts. REAL polo attire. Chunky ladies in horizontal black sipping champagne talking on and on about inherited portfolios and restrictions on family partnership distributions. "Father absolutely HATES The Caymans..." Oh brother... On the Plus Side. It's a stunning view. Food was fine. Servers seemed as annoyed of the patrons I as was, so I get it. I've had the pleasure of eating here almost a half dozen times through out the past three years and I have to say that every experience was breathtaking. The views of the Water Tower downtown are amazing, and the servers are all professional and top notch. Once we dined here and had a 10-15 minute wait to have our drink order taken and believe that a salad came when it was not supposed to, or maybe we waited a few more minutes after our salads, I can't quite remember what the "issue" was, we never complained, and was given two desserts (amazing) on the house. Spectacular view. Intimate atmosphere. The menu changes frequently providing great variety. Incredible experience time after time. The portions are small which is consistent with other upscale restaurants, so you can enjoy multiple items or order al la carte. The sea scallops are always fantastic. We've celebrated a few events here & they are great at providing extra service (like "congratulations" written in chocolate on the dessert plate). Even with a reservation, you may have you start in the lounge. An equally pleasant experience. Drinks are well-made. You pay more than other bars, but you get what you pay for. In Chicago for a couple of days and heard Nomi was a must for dinner. As a jaded New Yorker I was first greeted in the lobby by a massive Robert Rauschenberg Art Work which set the tone for the rest of the evening. The restaurant is elegant on every level from furnishings, lighting, staff and chinaware to the cloth dinner napkins (thank god they weren't standard white, the pattern matched their carpeting). If you are looking for a romantic evening or a place where you can get dressed up and have an elegant experience I would suggest Nomi. read more

The first time I went to NoMI was on New Years Day for brunch. The selections they offered were simply amazing. From sushi to a selection of meats and breakfast foods, no matter what you desired-they had it for you. Not only was there a wide array of food, but all of it was delicious. I have been back several times since, for dinner and drinks, and it still never ceases to amaze me with their impeccable service and food and wine selection. To top off the great food offerings, the views are amazing as well as the decor. A definite must! read more

We celebrated our anniversary recently at NoMI Kitchen, and it was all amazing. Everything from the food to the service to the views was lovely. We started with a few appetizers, the Deviled Eggs and Beef Tartare, both which were very tasty. For entrees, hubby went with the Angus Strip which was cooked perfectly to his liking, and I got the Rohan Duck which I'm still dreaming about! We followed up our great meal with dessert and a glass of sherry and port. Service was impeccable all night, and we hope to be back to celebrate again! read more

Met some friends for drinks during the summer and was able to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine. Their signature drinks are absolutely some of the best around. I don't think I can pick a favorite because they are all so good. Same with all the appetizers. Everything is just delicious. The staff is friendly and accommodating, especially when we had a couple extra people stop by and needed more chairs. Their outside seating is a little bit crowded during the summer, but you do not even notice once you see the view. Stunning! read more

Nomi at the Park Hyatt in Chicago is hands-down a great breakfast spot. Whenever I stay here, it's a must. The space is absolutely gorgeous, bright, airy, and with an amazing view of the historic water tower. It's the perfect place to start the day, especially with one of their incredible smoothies. Seriously, the smoothies are next-level. I'm either fueling up before exploring the city or just enjoying a leisurely morning working on my computer in the dining room. We had a fun evening at NoMi with some good friends. I think that it is a great place for meeting up with others to enjoy a fine meal. The menu has a couple of things going on at the same time...an interesting combination. While the general cuisine is "Modern French", they also have an awesome sushi bar which can serve as you meal, or a tasty appetizer. Great place to go in the summer when the outdoor deck is open. Was there recently and the views are breathtaking even if you are just inside. Got seated at a table over looking Michigan Ave. and the Water Tower which really set the mood for a romantic dinner with my boyfriend. The food was great too a little on the pricy side but we were out celebrating a special occasion, which is what I envision this place is for. Will go back once the deck reopens in May. read more

Simply great! I adore this place and go there almost every other month, and the only shortcoming for me is that about one-third of the menu, usually the amuse-bouches part (and my most favorite part of the meal) remains unchanged. NoMI Kitchen was kind enough to change the entrees for me, but served the same amuse-bouches and I had to try most of them for the third time. Came here on our first night after touring the city. The food is delicious and the sushi is very fine quality. They start with warm bread which is delcious! The drinks were very nicely done. We saw all types of dress types so no need to dress up to the restaurant if you don't want to. The view of the water tower was the best! read more
