I only ordered takeout so this review is for the food only. nonono first caught my eye in 2023 for the funny looking name as I was browsing Google Maps for nearby restaurants. I ate a boatload of carbs (pizza :D) one day and desperately wanted some protein for dinner so I wound up ordering a bunch of yakitori. Everything sounded good, there's quite a selection of chicken parts, with more limited beef, fish, pork, and veggie options. The food was simple but cooked well and very flavorful, even for the "boring" cuts of chicken like tenderloin and breast. My favorite wound up being the breast with skin because even though the skin wasn't crispy, it balanced out the lean meat with a pleasantly rich fattiness. Honestly more of a 2.5 if I'm being frank so this is me being generous. It's usually a wait with no resy but that's fine. The last time we were here prob 6 months ago, food and service was p good. But this time...things went downhill. The cod roe pasta was bland and nothing outstanding. The skewers were fine but took forever to come out. In fact, our food came so slow that 2 different servers including our own assigned waitress asked if they could clear our table and one time she took away all our utensils and napkins before learning from us that we are stil missing 3 items! Crazy...I have no words but other than I kmow you're busy but please find a way to fix this service. Lastly we tried to order dessert. We asked for a regular hokkaido milk soft serve and within 5 min asked to change to matcha parfait (which uses hokkaido milk soft serve as a base). Server said too late. This was a somewhat casual Japanese restaurant, a stone's throw away from the chaos of Herald Square. We popped in for lunch. It's a two floor joint but the most scenic seating is on the bottom level. For mains, we ordered the Cod Cream Ramen and the Sashimi Teishoku. The Cod Cream Ramen is the dish that keeps me from giving this place five stars. It was texturally great with heavy cream galore but did not have the punch from similar versions of this I've had in the past. The Sashimi Teishoku was truly a five star dish. The fish quality was MUCH higher than expected. For dessert, our only choice was the Suishingen, a "rain drop pudding served with soy bean powder and brown sugar sauce." Sometimes less choice is better. The look was unique. It was firmer compared to something like jello and the brown sugar sauce and soy bean powder made for a familiar yet welcome Asian flavor. On top of it all, the service was excellent, we were tended to and always had our water cups refilled without needing to ask. This is a fairly large restaurant and so it can be a little bit loud depending on the crowd! Angus Prime Kalbi - the flavors are so good, so delicious, and tender - I wish we ordered more of these! Ji-do-ri Kara Age - perfectly crispy fried chicken bites. Wagyu Diced Steak - this was the best beef dish we had here. Shrimp Katsu - crispy and flakey and perfect shrimp flavor. Oyako Roll - this was such a good and refreshing roll. Kani Fried Rice - who doesn't love a fried rice and with snow crab? Sold. This was a nice rice dish to include in our meal. Some memorable highlights included: Kani fried rice - Super buttery and had a good amount of crab Shoyu ramen - I was really excited to try this and it did not disappoint! Nonono used to be one of my favorite restaurants in the city. Unfortunately last time we went, we got unlucky enough to visit on the first day of their new menu. This new menu was much smaller than their previous one, and removed many of the more unique skewers we used to love. Dishes like the scallop uni, eel, gizzard skewers, heart , tail, cartilage , and many more they previously had were all removed. It felt like they went with a safer menu that took away from what made this place special. I also used to really look forward to desserts after eating here, but they removed the more unique Kuro Goma and sushigen , and replaced them with soft serve options. The one positive is that there were more udon options than before, and the udon we had was still good. But aside from this, this new change felt like a huge let down for everyone in our group from what we experienced previously . read more

From the food to the service to the decor, our visit to the NoNoNo was a pleasant experience from start to finish. The staff were warm and welcoming, making us feel right at home. My daughter loves Japanese Izakaya-style dining, and we arrived about an hour before closing on a weekday--walked in and got a table with no wait, which was a great surprise. The food was delicious. We ordered a variety of small plates including the Hamachi, Gyoza, Crunchy Tuna Tartare Roll, Truffle Chicken, Pork Kushikatsu, and the show-stopping Lobster Miso Butter. Every dish was flavorful and cooked to perfection. The ambience had a cozy, traditional Izakaya feel--relaxed yet refined. It reminded us a lot of NoNo Barü in San Francisco, though we'd say NoNo still edges it out. How stupid a way to start a review. A year ago they asked my cousin, Jeffery, to leave this establishment. Why? Because the idiot was annoying other patrons. How? He kept singing the beginning of the "Human Beinz" oldies song "Nobody But Me" (IYKYK). FOR AN HOUR. First, he's a cousin by marriage. Second, when we visit NY, we stopped telling him we're coming. Today's problem is the restaurant itself. I don't know what happened but they took a major left turn and things don't taste near as good as one year ago. I was so excited to come here, only partially because Jeffery was eating somewhere else. We've had great times here. I thought it might be an off night...they happen, or it's just us. The guy next to us confirmed it's them and sadly this will be his last visit here. I felt the food was overly salty and almost inedible. The drinks were definitely watered down and the waiter was a rude prick. He snapped at Mrs. E. and ran off like a coward. It pains me to write about instances like this. Anyone that follows my feed knows how optimistic I am and the amount of sunshine I blow up everyone's skirt. They charge way too much $$ to rely on presentation, alone. Love love loved this place! Came here for dinner a little bit ago and split a spread of dishes with a few friends! We were a party of 4 and I'd say we were plenty full after sharing a bunch of things: the kalbi and brussel sprout yakitori, yellowtail ceviche, yaki corn, kinoko, pumpkin tempura, renkon bacon, karaage, shrimp katsu, tuna mayo roll, kani fried rice, and sukiyaki udon. For dessert, we ended up getting all three - the matcha parfait, hokkaido soft serve, and the suishingen (rain drop pudding for the aesthetics)! Honestly, I loved everything - especially the starter-sized things, like the kalbi skewer and karaage. The flavors and textures are varied which makes it even more important to try a bunch of things. Of the desserts, would definitely get the rain drop pudding at least once just because it's fun and I was a fan of the matcha parfait with the surprise mochi (spoiler alert) at the bottom! Because we leaned more into the small dishes we probably didn't have enough room for more entrees but the udon and fried rice were both terrific and I would want to try more things off the menu. Nonono has climbed up to one of my favorite AFFORDABLE ramen places in NYC! I love the lowlight vibe throughout the restaurant - it makes it feel like a nice intimate little dinner spot. My friend and I came here for a little girls night out to celebrate the weather finally cooling down with a hot bowl of ramen, and BOY did it hit the spot. The broth is unlike any I've had before - there are some broths that enhance the ramen and there are some that ALSO would taste phenomenal on their own... this is the latter. I think I ordered the wrong dish (sukiyaki udon). It was okay, but not what I was expecting for a place as well advertised as this one. The sweet soy sauce base was a bit overpowering to the point of tasting artificial, I expected the egg to be more runny, and I've had a better version in a home cooked setting. I think they're more famous for their yakitori, but my group was limited by food restrictions, which is why I ordered my own dish.
