My only complaint is that the portions are on the smaller side, almost tapas-style for the price. To celebrate Dragon Boat Festival, they're serving a special Zongzi ($14). Each one is packed with seasoned sticky rice, lap cheong, pork belly, salted egg yolk, and shiitake mushrooms. It tasted so nostalgic and is perfect for sharing with friends and family. ＊Lotus Root with Sticky Rice 桂花糯米藕 $12 * A starter that tastes more like a dessert! The lotus root was stuffed with sticky rice and lightly infused with sweet, floral osmanthus syrup. ＊You Tiao Shrimp 招牌油條蝦 $18 * Shrimp paste stuffed inside crispy fried dough, then drizzled with mayo and topped with pineapple. Super crispy with a salt and pepper coating that packed quite a spicy kick. I wish I could remember the exact name of the dish I ordered, but it was a spicy beef dish that was fantastic, and we also had the vegetable fried rice which was very good as well. It feels comfortable and relaxed, especially if the restaurant isn't completely full. One thing to be mindful of is that there are quite a few pork options on the menu, and some dishes didn't clearly specify that until we asked while ordering. I had a delivery order from this Hangzhou restaurant. I ordered Soy Glazed Crispy Fish, Golden Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp, Chili Pepper Chicken, Confit Duck Fried Rice and Snow Pea Shoots with XO sauce. Spicing and preparation were different than other types of Chinese food that I have had. Of course, we know that there are innumerable different provinces in China, and as many styles of food. The stand out for me was the Golden Salted Egg Yolk Shrimp, a soft eggy shrimp mildly cooked jumbo sized juicy goodness. It was very "eggy" and will not appeal to everyone but I liked it. The Chili Pepper Chicken was a fairly standard stir fry with a little heat and not much sauce...tasty and went well with the white rice (an extra $3). The Duck Fried Rice was a little on the dry side...but very flavorful. The Snow Pea Sprouts were delicious, mildly cooked with a lot of flavor. The Soy Glazed Crispy Fish was totally dry but delicious...nice chunks of soy sauce flavored medium sized pieces of juicy fish. In all, I enjoyed this meal. The rib eye steak in oyster mushroom sauce looked so good, but had no flavor. The soft shell crabs were dry and fishy. The shrimp pao actually may have been the best dish. The crispy chicken, perfectly cooked, underwhelming lacking flavor. The starters were good with great dumplings and dim sum. The cucumber salad was supposedly marinated, but again no flavor. We got there at 5:45 without a reservation and they said they could community table seat us until 7pm - we're fast eaters so that worked perfectly. I don't think I've ever had a restaurant that specializes in 'Hangzhou' food before. The only 'standard' thing we got was mapo tofu, which was flavorful though not mind blowing. We also got pepper chicken (asked for it extra spicy, it wasn't, c'est la vie!), and their crispy eggplant. Pepper chicken was solid pan fried piece of chicken, good flavor but nothing earth shattering. Crispy eggplant was *really* well done, perfectly crispy with a nice soy/sweet/vinegar sauce that perfectly complimented it. This was the highlight (thanks Yelp!). Walking into the restaurant, the ambiance is lovely and decorated well. Lots of tables for large groups and a semi-private dining area in the back. We came for a weekend lunch and ended up staying for hours after just drinking tea and chatting. The restaurant wasn't particularly busy at the time, so they didn't rush us out or anything which was nice. We ordered the xiao long bao, braised pork belly, mapo tofu, and soft shell crab. The prices of the dishes were very reasonable compared to other Chinese restaurants in the city. However, considering that Grandma's Home is a well-known restaurant chain in China and this is their first US location, it fell short. I love the Chinese outpost of Grandma's Home but it felt like the dishes were not up to par. The taste has definitely been altered for the Western palate. The pork belly was served with bao buns to make gua bao, which you might see at fusion restaurants, but it's not a thing in Hangzhou cuisine. It is more common in Fujian. The sauce was also overly salty and thick with small cuts of pork. The majority of the dish was an assortment of mushrooms. What would've been a better dish is dong po rou with a larger piece of pork and braised till tender. This pork wasn't tender enough. The soft shell crab and xiao long baos were both thoroughly enjoyable. The mapo tofu was decent too.
