I love their Vietnamese Iced Coffee and fried duck BUT they overcharged me and my friend. It wasn't until I paid when we recomputed what we ordered. My bill was around $54 without tips where it should only be $40. Their bill was handwritten in Chinese characters so we only understood the sum of our order. Since we were in a hurry, I didn't bother correcting them. I'm just never going back there again. If you plan to visit, recompute your bill before paying! read more

I really enjoy the food at this restaurant. The number 21 is excellent and the flavors are always consistent and very comforting. My only complaint is with the service of the restaurant. The staff can be a bit unfriendly and even if my service was ok, I do notice other customers getting fed up with aspects of the service they receive. The staff can make you feel a bit rushed at times, especially if you come towards the end of the day, and it isn't the most pleasant experience. Also, they have these pickled peppers which are great with their noodle soup dishes, but for some reason, they do not make enough to supply each table with, so instead, they keep a few containers on a counter and bring them to customers when they are requested. The annoying thing is that sometimes, while you are still eating, the staff will come by and randomly take the peppers and either give them to another table or put them back on the counter. I wish I could understand why the restaurant wouldn't want to make enough pickled peppers so everyone could freely enjoy them with their food. If the restaurant made a few adjustments to their service and encouraged their staff to be more a bit more pleasant and patient with customers, then I would give this restaurant 5 stars. This place is horrible. I don't knoe if they changed management or not but workers look new. Don't get fooled by the menu price because they charge you more than what menu says. Meh. Don't name yourself "Noodle 21" if you can't compare to #21 in Oakland's Vien Huong. Seriously. Sorry, not sorry. What made this place a 3 star besides the food is the service was the slow. There were about 10 people already eating. I get in, order immediately and it took at least 5 minutes to get my noodles. What?!?! 5 minutes isn't long? You're talking about an Asian restaurant here. Service it measured by the second, kinda like McDonald's I guess. But seriously, it should have come out sooner. Now that I think about it, it was more than 5 minutes. And the worse part is the lack of condiments. The lack of condiments left my noodles bland. I'm glad I tried it but I don't think I'll ever come back for more. I'm giving a 3 stars because it's not terrible or bad, it just doesn't compare to what Vien Huong has. And service wasn't terrible, just not as quick as VH. It's more of a 2.5. That's all. read more

This is the same style restaurant as Vien Hung- the OG location in Oakland Chinatown, and the VH Noodles (or whatever it's called now...now known as Mi's Southeast Asian Eatery in the Pacific East Ocean Mall in Richmond). It's definitely closer to our house than those other Noodle/Soup joints, so we like it's convenience, and actually really friendly service, cleanly atmosphere (except when there's flies in the summer), and prices! Caveat - as familiar as I am with Noodle 21, I am not good with the menu names OR spelling, so apologies in advance. I usually get the #21 (hey, they named the restaurant after that), the spare rib ho fun, the won ton noodle (chew cho), and the chicken wing appetizer- omg, those things are addictive with a sweet sour sticky sauce. If you really want to won ton it up, you can get a chow chew (cho?) noodle and then get some won ton (dumpling?) appetizers, which come in a more spicy hot sauce with vinegar, damn it's good. This strip mall has a couple of other food options, including an OK Mediterranean place, plus it's got the Jamba Juice, Starbucks, etc. but it's just not a great shopping center- the San Pablo Damn Rd. traffic makes getting in and out suck, and it's close to the San Pablo Casino so that kind of brings in this shady element. So, not a great atmosphere, but definitely great food. read more

Came here with my parents on a Tuesday at 5:45pm. There were barely any people in the restaurant. We each ordered our food. My mom and I got our food out in a timely matter. We were trying to eat slow as my dad still hadn't received his order. We waited and waited, our soup getting cold. We saw patrons who arrived after us get their food. Finally, we flagged the waitress down and asked about my dad's meal. She said it was on its way. We saw her go to the kitchen with our receipt, and it sounded like she rushed the cook to make his meal. Many minutes later, she brought it out, but at that point my mom and I had finished our meals and my dad didn't want us to wait. The waitress boxed the meal up for us and said we should take it to go. Uhhh. Okay. The waitress wasn't very apologetic about the whole experience and just kept saying the food was delicious and that we should try it. We also ordered hot tea for the table and it never came. I went here for lunch today and was higly dissapointed. I ordered a combo ceispy noodles chicken,shrimp and pork with a sauce. The order came out quick however I had to call the waitress back and ask if there was a hair in my food. The manager or owner or whomever said oh no that is from the scrubber. I really enjoy eating here. I've always been a returning customer since their old location. Now after saying that I am giving this place 2 stars because of something I witnessed while dining in. While I was eating, my friend noticed something one of the waiters were doing. Now, I never really liked this waiter but the owners seem to think she's a great worker, but that's not it at all. While she was "restocking" the spices she took her finger and basically fingered the spice. Like what the heck?? If that's not unsanitary I don't know what is. I don't recall ever eating at a VH Noodle house so I really don't have anything to compare this place too. I needed a mental break from my little one and decided to go off on my own and try Noodle 21. Place wasn't too packed and found a couple of open tables and plopped myself into the table closest to the door. I ordered the famous number 21 with wonton with soup on the side and milk tea boba. If I recall, the number 21 comes with flat rice noodle, shrimp, chicken, ground pork, mushroom, tofu and wonton. The bowl was pretty tasty, added some of the condiments to give it a kick. I did find a piece of hair in my bowl they ended up taking the bowl back and gave me a fresh one. They were very apologetic about it. Boba was good as well. I swear I always have the same issue when I come here. I come with a group that orders the #21 so our waiter assumes that we don't need menus, but I try something new every time I go somewhere, so that doesn't work well for me. I ordered the Beef and Gai Lan Rice Platter, and it was pretty good. The Beef and Gai Lan had a good gravy on top, but the rice tasted old and was hard in some areas. Boyfriend and I were really hungry and needed time to waste before heading to the movies! We yelped for anything that caught our eye. There isn't a huge variety when it comes to this area. This place was near and close by. It's located in a plaza so parking isn't an issue. We walked in and the nice lady said we could sit anywhere we'd like. A menu was brought to us and it was printed on newspaper! Very creative! Thumbs up! Only downside was that they looked kind of dirty and gross... I ordered #21 (Chow Jew Ho Fun); it's also like #21 at VH! It was on the front page of their newspaper, so it had to have been the best there. My boyfriend ordered a seafood version. We also got a Vietnamese iced coffee and a sour sop with strawberry flavor. My #21 was really good and flavorful. Very filling! It came with a good amount of everything. The only issue I had was with their hoisin sauce. It was just extremely watery. I wasn't able to pick any of it up with my chopstick to put of my spoon of food. I kept having to pick up my little sauce tray and pour some on my spoon. Yeah, I like a lot of sauce. The Vietnamese coffee was just okay. It was strong which was great! But there wasn't enough condensed milk in it. When we ordered the sour sop smoothie, I normally like just sour sop flavor. But the lady kept asking what flavor we wanted. I tried telling her that I wanted the original sour sop, but she stared at me confused because she didn't understand English too well. I didn't feel like explaining myself with the conversation going no where so I simply chose strawberry. It was really refreshing and delicious. The strawberry flavor was just so overpowering that I didn't get the delicious taste of sour sop. Of course we decided to go on yelp to see where we can explore always looking for new dining opportunities and we came across this new noodle house.. there menu is printed on a newspaper. I thought this was super cute! I wouldn't recommend a date night type of situation because it's pretty basic nothing to cool or romantic but our soup was great and the fresh coconut drink is yum! I asked for pearl in my milk tea and for some reason the lady refused even though it says you can add pearl in any drink for $1 extra thought that was weird but whatevs LOL! I was really excited to try this place out since reading the yelp reviews. My initial thought was that this was going to be my new pho place but looking through their menu more thoroughly I realized this is not a Vietnamese restaurant, it is quite literally a noodle house. I was still excited to try it. We didn't know what to order or how to order it so we ordered things we recognized like chicken soup with vermicelli noodles and chicken fried rice. Well the chicken soup had very little flavor, the fried rice was great. I thought maybe I should ask for suggestions. Unfortunately the people that work here don't speak very good English so it was difficult to as for suggestions. So we ate the very bland chicken soup and left. I want to try again because I'm sure the food is great... I just have no clue what to order. Their waiters should come give you kinda an intro to what kinds or things are on their menu. This place looks so similar to Me at the ranch 99 plaza. Ordered my usual with ho fun noodles, with everything in it. Broth was bland. A lot of noodles in it which I loved. Meats were cooked perfect. Some places cook the kidney too long & it gets chewy...not this place. Ordered the chili wonton... Those were yum!!! The sauce in it was so good I could drink it. Wontons were a little hard tho. I've only ever been here once and thought it was good. I had their signature bowl and the broth tasted flavorful, but I like mine drenched in their signature hot sauce. The owner/waiter is very nice and attentive, we were there before noon on a weekday so it wasn't too busy. My only complaint is that there were no fishballs in my soup, which is my fav and the fish cake that came with the soup was cut very thin and didn't taste very fresh. When I am in the area and in the mood for noodles, this is my go to place. Every time I come here, the workers are all very friendly. A couple months ago, I came here with my daughter's friends to celebrate her birthday as she was craving crispy noodles, not to mention the saying "have noodles on your birthday for long life". We later ordered the rolled ice cream for dessert which was so delicious and such a big serving! Soon after we sang "Happy Birthday", one of my friend's child with a disability started to have a tantrum. A few minutes later, I believe one of the owners, came out and offered a free smoothie for the child. The ice cream was also complementary! My daughter and her little friends always remember this place and tell me how much they love the noodles here and how nice they were to her and her friends. Even the parents enjoyed the food and have returned a few times. On another occasion, we arrived right before closing, but they let us stay in to eat until we were done. We did not even feel rushed to leave. I would highly recommend this place if you are wanting crispy noodles. Very disappointing. My parents ate here and said the food was bland. They ordered some to go and I gave it a shot because i thought maybe it was just what they ordered that wasn't good. I tried it and it was bland as well, sadly my siracha sauce and lime couldn't even help it. My to go had maybe a few small pieces of cabbage, 2 small slices of fish cake, and like 2 small shrimp. At 8ish$ for that? Maybe one day I'll give this place another shot and maybe i'll have a better impression next time around. Maybe they were having an off night.
